Zen Stone not charging + w

After using my zen for about 2 days, i noticed the % of charge according to the player is stuck at 67%. when i unplug my player, i noticed the player seem a little warm to the touch
I reinstalled media lite and used 3 different usb cables on 3 different ports on my computer, still have the same problem
Edit: I just installed an old USB PCI card i had laying around, after installing that. My stone seems to be charging now. Can anyone confirm that charging requires usb and not usb2?Message Edited by shof55 on 06-27-200705:03 PM

Hi
I have the same problem with my ZEN Nano Plus - do you think this download from IOMEGA will work for me too? - I don not think I have understood what Iomega has to do with Creative devices?
Edit: Well - I tried the patch out - didn't work though - *sigh*
It used to work ok, but the last time I wanted to connect and add some tracks to the player I couldn't connect and I finally had to try to install the firmware, which to my surprice did the trick, however now I wanted to add some more tracks and I still can't connect... I really recent the idea of having to reinstall the firmware each time I want to add or remove tracks - also the whole thing is formatted each time - really annoying.
Bonus info: when cable is connected to the player, my optical mouse won't work - perhaps a conflicte there? I have tried all the USB ports with the same result...
If anybody have an idea - it is more than welcome!!Message Edited by lenasl on 06-07-200708:23 PM

  • Zen Stone Plus Charg

Good day! I have a problem with my Creative Zen Stone Plus unit. The battery does not get a full charge and according to my Creative Media Lite, it's only 20% or so full. However, when I turn the player display on, it indicates that the charging is already complete (blinking blue LED and a plug sign instead of the lightning sign). In turning the product on, it reads that the player only has two bars? left and then turns to one bar after just 5 minutes of playback. This is crazy since I charge it as sson as the battery indicator reaches one bar. So obviously, it isn't charging. I've already installed the new firmware, resetting and formatting the player, and everything else that I could think of I've already tried them. Went through the messages in this site and all I can see are problems with their own players and no worthwhile solution from the Creative Tech team. I went on as much as to locally look for the service provider of Creative here in the Philippines but they all seem to know less than myself regarding the product.
A side question and comment is if it would be better for my battery to run until there's no more bars in the indicator left (not necessarily drain it) or charge as soon as it hits one bar. The crazy thing is, I'm presumming with the hassle that it is producing, most probably the battery is not in its optimum condition anymore due to the trials that I have been doing to resolve this problem. The crazy thing is that the service provider I've been mentioning also told me that I can charge the player even when it is on, now reading the messages and from my stock knowledge I realized that what she did was irresponsible and utterly detrimental for my battery. This is such a sad condition considering that Creative is just building its name and they seem to be unable to provide a good customer support base for their clients.

    Not sure if this hel
    ps.
.. I had a similar issue with my new Zen Stone.... Following it's first charge (+3 hours), I used?the player?until the battery went 'flat' and it turned itself off... I tried to charge the player up several times?without success - Creative Media Lite continually reported the battery as having 7% charge - but this never improved... Prior to me taking it back to the store I bought it from, I did a 'reset' (paperclip hole on the top side)... Low and behold - the player started to charge up again....

  • Zen Stone not detected by creative media lite or

My Zen Stone has just begun not to detected by creative media lite or WMP. I'm so frustrated as its been working great. I charged it using my plug in charger, and the green light was on, steady, meaning, i think, its fully charged.
But when plugged into the pc its blinking on and off in a red light, meaning I think the battery isn't charged.
What's going on? can anyone help me!

My Micro did that last night. I used WMP beta 2 to transfer some files, just to see how it worked, and now the Creative Media Explorer won't see it. Funny thing is that right about the CME, is the listing with my players name. I can get into my player through that ...reinstalling the CME right now...will let you know the outcome...
    That fixed it right up.
I hope that someone from Creative is watching all this mess with firmware/software problems and WMP and sorts it all out when WMP goes gold.Message Edited by zenwerewolf on 09--2006 04:24 PM

  • Zen Stone not showing up in device manager

Before you send me to some link... I have hit quite a few?Currently I have been trying to use the Muovo driver; it flashes that it has detected something then it searches for about 2-5 minutes (it does not detect the player) and shuts down? When I use the Zen stone driver I get the Semaphore period timed out message?Yes I down loaded and ran the Recovery driver from Packard Bell....(however there is no questions asked it just runs and thats it)?Using Windows Media 0?Currnetly the zen stone shows up in USB mass storage device(but not on)Sometimes it shows up as recovery class device...but will not be detected??So any ideas?

There is another possible cause - which I found from this board - if you ever had an Iomega driver loaded on your PC e.g. from a Zip dri've, but there are other Iomega drivers around too, this can causes this problem. (Don't ask why............). If you can find a Iomega driver on your PC, you need to delete it. This worked for me - and I had a similar problem to you before I deleted the Zen driver. Honeyrose

  • Zen Xtra not charging.

Anyone has this problem? The player works with the AC Adapter, but the battery does not charge at all. Thinking it's the battery, but is there a way to "test" to see if it's the battery for sure?
    Thanks,
    Chuong

    Sorry....found this after posting
My battery refuses to charge, what can I do?
There can be a number of reasons for the battery not charging.
The first and easiest things to try are resetting the player (with the small reset switch) and running a disk cleanup from the Maintenance Menu. If there is any anomalous problem with the Zen hopefully this will solve it.
Make sure that the mains adapter is actually working. Remove the battery from the player (in those players which you can remove it) and connect the mains adapter. If the player powers up then the transformer is functioning correctly.
Failing this, connect the transformer to the wall socket, and the Zen to the transformer. Then turn the wall socket switch on and off several times. The power spike *might* jump the charging circuit. Failing this it might be that the battery has been left uncharged for sometime and therefore the charging circuit does not seem able to charge it. Follow the thread here to the Zen forums for advice on how to "jump start" the battery. Take note of the disclaimers. Also take note of the information above on how to care for your battery.

  • ZEN NX Not Charging

ZEN NX Not Chargingp My player began having charging problems about one month ago. It would charge then I would play it for several hours (while connected to the AC charger) then it would just shut down. When restarted it would display "low battery" and turn off immediately. I bought a new battery which seemed to fix the problem for a week or two then the same condition began all over again. ?
I have removed and replaced the battery and verified there is still a charge in it. I have also tried resetting the player via the reset pin. I have also verified that the AC charger (original Creative unit) is producing specified charge. Nothing changes. ? Still get "low battery" indication. No other icons are visible on the screen.
I have also tried connecting player to a powered USB 2.0 port but that doesn't have any effect either. I'm not sure but believe this player is not set up to charge from USB but thought I'd try. ?
Knowledgebase didn't have any symtoms which are exact match with mine. Here's hoping someone has been through this before. TIA? John

Does the battery charging icon show when it's plugged in the wall charger? Where did you get the battery from? Is it a real Creative battery or a generic?

  • Zen Stone not work

So I went out and bought a Zen Stone GB mp3 player today. Upon hooking it up to the computer, it was recognized, and it supposedly installed fine. However, it is recognized in Device Manager, but not My computer. Only a removable Disk shows up in My Computer. Also, Creative Media Lite doesnot recognize that the mp3 player is attached, nor does the firmware update program. Any ideas as to what the problem is, and how I can solve it's This seems like a really nice mp3 player. Its a shame its such a pain in the neck to install.

Update: At this point when I plug in the Zen stone, it is recognized, but still only in Device Manager. It does not appear in My Computer, and Creative Media Lite, Windows Media Player, and any other software will still not recognize it. I've tried installing the latest firmware, but it cannot find the Zen Stone either.

  • Zen micro not charg

Hi guys, I looked thru the FAQ and previous postings but can't seem to find anything on this problem. Anyways, I can't seem to get my zen micro to charge via the wall charger even though the battery is near dead, no bars. The micro just acts as if it isn't plugged in at all. I tried using a power strip to try to 'jump' start the battery as suggested as well as keeping the hold on when charging but nothing seems to work. I'm currently on a long trip without my usb connector so I can't try connecting to a computer. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can try to get this thing charging? Thanks.Message Edited by ppong828 on 08-26-2005 03:23 AM

thx ssr for the suggestion. fortunately i'm living with someone who has a multimeter but unfortunately I'm not so great with this sort of electronical testing. I'm not exactly sure how to use one to test the usb end of the wall charger for the output voltage since the output end is so small but I couldn't get any reading. Also, I couldn't get a resistance on the input end so maybe that means that the wall charger may have shorted out. thx again for your help.

  • Zen Stone not detected by winxp+

    Hi,
I've just bought a Zen Stone and plugged it into my computer in the usb ports at the back. Windows detects the device, and the autoplay menu pops up, but then the autoplay menu disappears and the Zen Stone shuts down (the light stops blinking).
I've looked around for similar problems and have only found incompatibilities with iomega zip dri'ves, however they have never been used on this machine. Has anyone any ideas on how to correct this problem?
    Many thanks,
    Mark

    Mark,
Are you at least able to power on the player now and listen to the music? Try leaving the player connected to the computer for a few hours to charge just in case the battery is depleted.

  • Zen Sleek not charging properly and battery not holding cha

Hi everyone. My Sleek has the latest firmware and is about 4 months old. I've searched for any info regarding my specific problem but can't find any. The problem is that the player won't charge. I plug in the charger and the charging sign shows. This quickly - in less than a minute I think - changes to the plug sign, suggesting?that the player is fully charged. I turn off the charger and the battery strength goes down to 0 or bar immediately and if I try playing it, it very quickly gives up and either switches itself off or, more often, freezes. When I plug the charger back in, the player usually has to rebuild the library before I can play anything. I've tried leaving the player switched on with idle shutdown turned off. When I do this, the fully charged sign disappears after a bit and the battery looks like it's charging for a short period of time before the charged sign comes back, but the result is the same. I've even tried doing?this overnight but with no joy. As I type, I'm trying to charge the player via a USB port. It looks like it's charging for about 30 secs, then the charged sign comes up, then it goes away and I'm left with 2 bars. Unplugging the player leaves me with no bars again. Also, the number of bars has in the past seemed to change randomly - 0 bars, then 2 bars, then bar etc. And it's gone from 2 bars to 'Low battery' and switching itself off without any inbetween stage. I've done a disk clean quite a few times with no joy. I had the same problem a few months ago and I tried all the above things and then it just seemed to randomly sort itself. So I stuck. Any suggestions would be gratefully received!?Thanks, Martin.

Did you try just leaving the player plugged in the to charger regardless of what the charging sign indicated? The problem you describe is a quite common characteristic of lithium batteries when they have done a few hundred charging cycles and are left to run very low or empty on charge. There is some quite convincing evidence that unlike using ni-cad or ni-mh batteries, we should not fully empty lithium batteries and that regular top-up charges are better for them. The player's charging circuit basically cycles between charging and testing the battery's output voltage. So after the 30 seconds to minute you describe the player stops accepting charge and tests the voltage from the battery. When lithium batteries have been charged for a short time from empty, the voltage they show to the test is almost what the charging voltage was, so it stops charging believing the battery to be full. Some charging circuits give up then, especially those that can't trickle charge (applying a small current to keep the battery topped up but not charging) to protect the battery. So basically you did the right thing to revi've the battery, but maybe for the next few cycles, just leave it til it gets to 30-50% before recharging. Hope that helps in some way

  • Zen microphoto not charging through

I'm trying to charge my zen microphoto in a friends computer and it just won't charge. The signal is flashing the computer recognizes the device but the battery is still in /3 although there's been 6 hours since I plugged it...
note that I have a usb connection, that the computer is a laptop, I don't have the software installed, and I haven't updated the firmware...
    what could be wrong?

For my Micro there is an option that you can set the player in Lock mode and then insert the usb cable to the pc which has not drivers installed to enable charging of the player. Try that out.
However, this is with an updated firmware to at least ..0 for my zen micro. Check with the microphoto firmware for more infoMessage Edited by microm3 on 08-02-2006 0:9 PM

  • MY 30G ZEN M VISION DOES NOT CHARGE FULL

My zen is not charging fully it charges maybe 3/4 to 90%, this has been going on for a whole week. I tried different computers, i have checked for updates, i have also used the recovery tool. This incicent happened after my zen battery went completely dead after such a long time ( so actually had to wait for it tobe charged ), now i dont have a fully charged zen. Any suggestions would mean alot

How long have you had the player & is it used alot. If you have a wall charger use it until it stops charging that usually about 3-4 hrs on direct current much longer on the usb. If you can only charge by usb then use a rear port on the computer to charge since you get full power from there front ports are not part of the motherboard the rear ones most likely are. If after that you still don't get a full charge then you will probably need to replace your internal battery in the near future.

  • Zen Stone Plus: does not charge/power on / isn´t reconized by my

Hi!?Bought a few days ago a zen stone plus but haven't tested it. Aboiut 2 weeks later I opened the boix and noticed the player does not charge, or power on and is not recognized by my pc as well...
What should I do? The shop where I bought it is about 600 km away from my home...
    Regards?

Try it on another PC if you can to be sure the player is having a problem, if it does the same there then I would advise contacting Customer Support so they can assist you.

  • Help, Zen Stone and Nano Plus not recognized on my PC (XP) have tried everything I can f

    Hi,
I recently bought a Zen Stone but I cannot get my PC to recognize it. Everytime it is plugged in I get taken to the "Found New Hardware Wizard" and it cannot find a driver. I have gone through all the help and none of the proposed solutions makes any difference. The Stone charges fine, but I cannot access it: in Device Manager it appears in Other Devices and does not appear in My Computer. The Safely Remove Hardware icon appears in the tray but when I right-click on it, nothing happens. The same thing is also happening with my older Zen Nano Plus which I am sure was recognized a couple of months ago. Both the Stone and the Nano PLus play music and I tried the Stone on a friends computer and her Windows XP recognised it fine. I am running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and I automatically do all the recommended Windows Updates. Things I have tried: * Unplugging all other USB devices * Using USBs at back of computer * Using a paper clip to reset the Stone * Changing the Power Management options for USB as advised on Creative Media website * Updating my chipset device drivers * In Other Devices trying to reinstall drivers * Downloading new drivers and other software for my Zen Nano * In the BIOS switching off USB 2.0 * Rolling back from Windows Media to 0, removing Microsoft User-Mode Driver Frameworks Feature Pack .0, and downloading "Update for DRM - enabled Media Players (KB8922)" * Downlaoding Iomega patch * Running msconfig to remove all startup and Service files apart from Microsoft to ensure there is no conflict with other loaded software (still didn't work) Something has defintely changed in my computer to stop Zen from working and yet the USB ports work fine with my digital camera, printer, keyboard and mouse. Please, please, please, does anyone have any ideas about what may be causing my problem Thank you Stephanie

Hi, Quick update, have also gone through everything in http://forums.creative.com/creativel...cending&page=3 and tried downloading the Fixup but with no success. Made the major mistake of following advice to delete USB controllers and ended up with no USB ports working (not good since my keyboard and mouse use USB). Had to do system restore to get back to square one. I have contacted Creative support several times and tried everything they suggested and they have tole me that there is nothing else I can try. Can find nothing else to try and with so many people experiencing the same problem with the Creative Zen's, I have come to the conclusion that the Zen is not compatible with many people's XP and only wish I had known all this before I bought it. If anyone has any other ideas I can try, please let me know, otherwise I will have to send my new Zen Stone back to Amazon as completely unusable. Goodness knows how anyone who doesn't know their way around a computer is ever supposed to get one working. I am really disappointed with Creative about this. Anyone recommend a good MP3 player make that actually works in Windows XP Regards Stephanie.
