Zen Stone's Battery and Corrupted F

I got Zen Stone and recently, its battery is getting abit haywired,I think. It's becoming odd, 0% to 25% in 2 hours. I used to charge it around 0% to 45% in less than 2 hours. Also, I used it today when I was out, I listen to a song for like 5 minutes before it blinks red. After charging full for God knows how long, I listen to a song that is minute and 30 seconds long, I plug it again into my PC and it shows me from 00% to 95%, which is unheard of.
As for the corrupted files, it gets worse, after plugging into my USB port, I was using a total of 800MB, leaving around 90MB of free space, now I lost a few songs and most folders are inaccessible and it says corrupted,not to mention it gives me 300MB of free space.
This is my second Stone, the first one suffered from the usual "Cannot Detect" problem and now it's this, what the hell is going on!?

Formatted it and it helps with the memory but not the battery issue. Is there a way to change the battery of the Stone? I mean, sucking about /4 of the **bleep** battery within 0 minutes?
I thought this is a technical support forum!? I don't see anybody assisting

ok, I will tkae that under consideration. Now I have another battery issue, after fully charging the MP3 player I noticed that the battery life drain rather quickly while it is off. I lost 9% of it's charge from taking it off the charger at midnight and then plugging it into the usb port of my computer the next morning at 10:00am. The clock is turned off so it should not be doing anything for those 0 hours.

Zen Stone Plus FF and Rewind problems

I have a Zen Stone Plus and I upgraded to the new softeware and firmware. I can not use my fast foward or reverse button. It's like I didn't even press them. They don't go foward or back so as I am listening to a book, if I missed something I can scroll back. The up button makes the speaker louder and the down button makes the speaker lower but there is no FF or rewind.Can I have this fixed? Does anyone have a solution?

) I have a similar yet slightly different problem: on my zen stone plus (with speaker) I can rewind, but when I FF the behaviour is actually the same as if I were pressing the rewind :smileysurprised: Anyone have the same problem? This is really bad for long files, like podcasts and also when I update the player (i.e. adding and removing files) which 'forgets' the previous playstate.

Although I am generally very pleased with my Zen stone, the battery is pretty hopeless. 0 hours play time, who are they kidding? - 4 or 5 hours if I am lucky. I travel a lot and this is no good at all when I am out all day and away from a computer. Zen Stone Plus Firmware Wishl

I have a Zen Stone Plus 4GB and I think it's a really nice and sexy device, but is lacking a bit on the software side. With just a few small firmware modifications, I think Creative could make it a much greater player.
I'm starting a wishlist for a future firmware. The list is sorted by priority, with the (imo) most important item on top. If you have any additions, please post them and I'll include them into the list.
I hope Creative's developers will have a look at this list and implement these suggestions!
Improve music browser speed
Problem: Browsing through the folders feels very slow, and often it even misses button presses so I have to press left or right twice to go to the previous / next item. This is most likely because the player starts playing the first track in the folder automatically, which slows down the user interface.
Suggested solution: I suggest the ability to turn off auto-play in the file browser.
Avoid embarrassing situations
Problem: Usually I turn on the player before plugging in the headphones. The player realizes that the headphones aren't yet plugged in and plays back music over the speaker, which isn't desirable when I'm in a lecture that isn't over yet.
Suggested solution: Make auto-play on turn-on an option or add an option to not enable the speaker when the headphones aren't plugged in.
Quick Hold
Problem: I want to put the player into my pocket and want to quickly turn on the hold feature. For this, I need to press: Menu, Right, Right, Right, Right, Right, Right, Right, Menu.
Suggested solution: Add "enable lock" as an option for the "My Shortcut" button.
Quicker turn on
Problem: When I turn on the player, I have to hold down the menu button for 4 - 0 seconds (it seems to be random) before the display even lights up.
Suggested solution: Make it turn on after one second.
Pocket usability
Problem: I'm listening to music with the player in my pocket. I want to skip forward to the next track. I press the forward button, but nothing happens the first time, because the first button press disables the screensaver. I press it again and it skips to the next track.
Suggested solution: Make it skip to the next track when the forward button is pressed the first time.

Tag support: the ability to select music by album/artist/track instead of folders
Display always on option - i know its to help save battery life but sometimes it would be helpful if the display stayed on

Hi all,
I am really desperate.... I charged my Zen Stone Plus yesterday and forgot to "safely remove the player". So by accident I just shut down the computer and when I realised that the player was still connected I just pulled the USB cable out of the PC. Since then the player doesn't work anymore. I can't switch it on. When I connect it to the PC it is not recognised, basically nothing happens. I know it's not the USB hub cuz any other device I connect is recognised immediately. So it must be the player....does anyone have an idea what could have happened and is there anything I can do to fix it's Unfortunately firmware or mp3 recovery tool are not of help as the player is not detected.....please please help!
I can't even exchange as I am based in UK but bought the player in Germany....so any advice would be VERY welcome !!

The only thing I can think of is to try the reset button, but you probably already?tried that.
For might this ever happen again. I think it's fine to turn of the computer with the player still connected, just wait for the computer to turn off completely until you remove the player. ?(At least that's what I always do, using the logic that when everything is turned off so is your player... )

Zen Stone with Macb

I have just bought 2 Zen stones for me and my partner.
I mainly use a Macbook with the latest Mac osx. I cannot seem to find any help to using these on my mac.
Any ideas, I am normally an Ipod girl.
I do have a laptop with XP installed. Most of my music I have ripped to MP3 format, will I be able to drag these to my stone.

My Zen Stone does work with my Mini Mac (OS X 0.4.7) but there's a snag. If you connect the Stone via USB when the Mac is on then it doesn't appear as a mass storage device on the desktop. The Stone can be seen by in the system profiler utility, but it's not correctly functioning. To enable you to use the Stone on a Mac you have to reboot the Mac with the Stone already connected via its USB cable. If you unmount the Stone then you have to reboot again.
When you have done the reboot so that the Stone appears as a volume on the Mac then it works very well. It even appears on iTunes (Mac version) as a Nomad MuVo. This is without using any special software/drivers to make this happen. So not only is the ZEN Stone a mass storage device that can be filled by just drag-n-drop, you can choose to use iTunes if you wish. There's no 'random fill' facility in iTunes (as you get with a shuffle), but random filling can be done by using the iTunes 'party shuffle' feature - just create a new party shuffle list then drag it to the Nomad MuVo icon. Easy.
Let's hope the initial connection issue will be fixed soon with a firmware update.

Battery Replacement Zen Stone Plus

Li-Poly batteries last approximately 3 years after manufacturing (charged or not). So if your Zen Stone ceases to function and it has not been abused, it'ss likely a dead ? no longer can be charged - battery.
I purchased a battery (actually 3 to meet their $ minimum) from allbattery.com? Polymer Li-Ion Battery 3.7V 240mAh. Order it with NO PCB option. $3.99 each plus shipping. After they arri'ved, I note the brand name is ?Tenergy. Original battery specs from Creative are 280mAh, a nominal difference. Specifications I didn?t have were charging requirements, but I?m happy to report they recharge seemingly identical from the Creative OEM batteries.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT:
Run Exacto knife or small utility knife around sides and end NOT including end opposite display (or you will cut through a ribbon cable) penetrating no more than 0.075 (/6th inch) to split case of Zen Stone. It may be necessary to insert small jeweler?s screwdriver directly at corners to gently pry, releasing positioning studs. If you?re lucky, you won?t break off studs, but if you do, don?t worry they are mostly for alignment purposes.
Lift off control pad (volume up down, fast forward, reverse, center select button) Remove two Phillips screws holding pc board to bottom case and lift edge of pc board with small screwdriver under USB port.
Hinge pc board up with headphone jack on top and lift up battery with screwdriver.
Examine ribbon cable, which is folded around control board and sandwiched between control board and pc mother board. If cable is torn (or cut) you?ll probably have to throw Zen Stone in trash as this cable may be impossible to repair.
Remove white tape from top of battery and unsolder + and ? connectors
Tint ribbon cables with solder (I used a little solder paste to get solder to stick), the solder in wires, paying attention to + and ? terminals. Be very careful not to touch the ribbon cables together or solder on a metal surface.
Cut a piece of electrician tape and wrap around ribbon cables and soldering joints.
You can test your Zen Stone prior to assembly.
Reassemble in reverse order using a pin, tooth pick or small paper clip and clear silicone caulk around edges. Wrap elastics around unit holding upper and lower case together while caulk dries.

Help, Zen Stone and Nano Plus not recognized on my PC (XP) have tried everything I can f

Hi,
I recently bought a Zen Stone but I cannot get my PC to recognize it. Everytime it is plugged in I get taken to the "Found New Hardware Wizard" and it cannot find a driver. I have gone through all the help and none of the proposed solutions makes any difference. The Stone charges fine, but I cannot access it: in Device Manager it appears in Other Devices and does not appear in My Computer. The Safely Remove Hardware icon appears in the tray but when I right-click on it, nothing happens. The same thing is also happening with my older Zen Nano Plus which I am sure was recognized a couple of months ago. Both the Stone and the Nano PLus play music and I tried the Stone on a friends computer and her Windows XP recognised it fine. I am running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and I automatically do all the recommended Windows Updates. Things I have tried: * Unplugging all other USB devices * Using USBs at back of computer * Using a paper clip to reset the Stone * Changing the Power Management options for USB as advised on Creative Media website * Updating my chipset device drivers * In Other Devices trying to reinstall drivers * Downloading new drivers and other software for my Zen Nano * In the BIOS switching off USB 2.0 * Rolling back from Windows Media to 0, removing Microsoft User-Mode Driver Frameworks Feature Pack .0, and downloading "Update for DRM - enabled Media Players (KB8922)" * Downlaoding Iomega patch * Running msconfig to remove all startup and Service files apart from Microsoft to ensure there is no conflict with other loaded software (still didn't work) Something has defintely changed in my computer to stop Zen from working and yet the USB ports work fine with my digital camera, printer, keyboard and mouse. Hi, Quick update, have also gone through everything in http://forums.creative.com/creativel...cending&page=3 and tried downloading the Fixup but with no success. Made the major mistake of following advice to delete USB controllers and ended up with no USB ports working (not good since my keyboard and mouse use USB). Had to do system restore to get back to square one. I have contacted Creative support several times and tried everything they suggested and they have tole me that there is nothing else I can try. Can find nothing else to try and with so many people experiencing the same problem with the Creative Zen's, I have come to the conclusion that the Zen is not compatible with many people's XP and only wish I had known all this before I bought it. If anyone has any other ideas I can try, please let me know, otherwise I will have to send my new Zen Stone back to Amazon as completely unusable. Goodness knows how anyone who doesn't know their way around a computer is ever supposed to get one working. I am really disappointed with Creative about this. Zen stone, vista and "device cannot start (Code 10) message&qu

Today i got a Zen Stone gb mp3 for use with a local library's program, Overdri've Media which allows users to download e-books to their computer and then transfer the files to?a MP3-the Zen. The first time I used it it worked fine, no problem. Then I tried another download transfer later . When I attempted to load the Zen by plugging it into my USB port (I tried 3 different ports), the computer would not find?the device. This happened even though a screen appeared showing that a portable dri've had connected and the files could be played on WMP or other players.
In Device Mgr., the Zen dri've has a yellow triangular sign showing an ! in it. Further exploration in Device Mgr. gives this message:
? Device Cannot Start (Code 0)
? Could not load Driver software.
? Windows was able to sucessfully install device driver software,however the dirver software encountered a problem when it tried? to run. Problem code 0.
?The drivers are up to date as is the firmware. I have run through the troubleshooting pages and the forum. I am using Vista 32-bit with 2 g memory. The Windows Media Player is v , which is required by the book/ library software, Overdri've Media.
Incidentally, the Zen works fine on my wife's XP laptop. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Try booting the player in the recovery mode.
. While the ZEN is off, press and hold down the play/pause button.
2. While holding down the play/push button, push the reset button slowly using a paper clip/pin. You should feel the "click" sound when press it.
3. Slide the On/Off switch towards the power button and hold it down until the recovery boot screen appears.
Choose Clean Up then Reboot. If problem still persists, you may need to format the ZEN but take note that formatting will delete the contents of the device. To format the ZEN, boot the ZEN in the recovery mode again and choose Format this time.

Zen Stone Plus and RhapsodyT

Hi,I see that Rhapsody does not yet list the Zen Stone as a?compatible device with RhapsodyToGo. I have 2 questions. ) does anyone know for sure if it is or not 2) Does Rhapsody have plans to make work?This will detemine if I get one for my wife - since we have RhapsodyToGo?Thanks

EDIT: [color="#008000">Or perhaps "maybe." Creative is being schizo again on their spec pages. I believe the "with built-in speaker" models are the newest. The specs for the "Zen Stone w/..." are as above. The specs for the "Zen Stone Plus w/..." say it supports Audible 4 (which may or may not be accurate). I assume the non-speaker Zen Stones are the oldest models. If the "Zen Stone w/..." model? doesn't do Audible 4 then I doubt the older models would. Regardless, the question is still open for debate. ?

MP3 Zen stone and zen mosaic: compatibility with Sony Microsystems

I was given a Zen Stone (basic model) almost two years ago as a present. In Christmas of 2008, I purchased a Zen Mosaic 8gb model which plays music, videos and photos. THis Christmas i received as a gift a Sony CMT HX80R micro system. This unit has the capacity to play i pod and MP3 via a USB port. Upon trying the Mosaic I received the message on the screen of the Sony saying "not supported". But when I played the Zen Stone, it loaded up perfectly and played with no problems. I am not super tech minded but surely if there was a model the Sony wouldn't recognise; surely it should have been the Stone as it's the older technology? Can anyone offer an exp[lanatiuon please? or is there some kind of patch I can put into the Mopsaic to make the Sony read it's

Continuous power and playback from Zen Stone USB port?

Hi. If I buy a Zen Stone can I get continuous playback (for instance 24/7) by plugging a power adapter into the USB port? I do not wish to recharge it all the time as it will be used for a very specific function and in a fixed location.

my zen stone will turn on, and charge, but it wont play the music.......it charges and everything, but i try to play the music, and the green light will go on, but it wont blink and play music like its supposed to........and when i try to turn it off, i cant so i have to reset the thing....PLEASE HELP!!

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. I suspect you have portions of the digitizer disabled because of the broken screen. (conductors are open)

Windows 2000 and Zen Stone P

My son has a new Zen Stone Plus and he uses Windows 2000.
Are there any known workarounds/hacks etc other than buying WIN XP upgrade pro for a couple of hundred dollars?
If you decide to drag and drop music over to it, how do you get software over there to manage it and what do you use ?
