Zen Touch 40GB is absolutely GRE

(This is further to my post in the thread "Experience with your Creative Player" ten days ago.)
Hello everybody,
two and a half weeks ago I received my Zen Touch 40GB and right from the beginning I was very happy with it -- easy to operate without having to use any kind of manual, reliable, beautiful, great sound quality, etc.
Now, two and a half weeks later, this positi've judgement has become even stronger. The Zen Touch is really extraordinary! Battery life second to none, sound quality absolutely amazing (also when connecting it to my harman/kardon amplifier), good software (MediaSource Organizer), solid and reliable feel, Zen software never crashed, touchpad easy to operate after some initial training, display excellent, easy to navigate through the menus, etc.
In the beginning I was very sceptical whether to spend that much money on an MP3 player, and also a bit sceptical whether I had chosen the right one (since there are many to choose from and there seems to be no immediate "first choice"). But today I'm more than happy with my purchase and couldn't imagine living without the Zen Touch 40GB anymore.
The most amazing thing about it is simply the sound quality -- I keep listening to Jennifer Larmore singing Caesar's air "Va tacito" from Haendel's opera "Giulio Cesare in Egitto" (Julius Caesar in Egypt, HWV 7, 723), and it is stunning how crisp and clear the soloist's voice mixes with the outstanding horns and the beautiful harpsichord sound, etc... This alone is worth it. Having all my CDs in a belt-pocket everywhere I go is, in and of itself, another reason for such a device.
OK, nuff said; I can honestly recommend this little gem!
David
<SPAN class=time_text>PS: For listening to operas an MP3 player is actually perfect since there is no need to change CDs -- I created a playlist for each opera, put the headphones on, lie down in my bed, and enjoy hours of musical delight without any breaks ;-)

I just got my Zen Touch 40GB 2 days ago. I was surprised that it was slightly smaller than by Zen Xtra.
My only concern with it is the operating system. Its missing many features compared to the Zen Xtra, some of which I really miss like the Tabbed View.
And one annoying little detail, When a song is playing and you accidently touch the Touch Pad it automatically goes to the Seleced Music screen (Why?) If you press Pause in this area the song with just complete stop. And you have to start the song all over agian.
Hopefully this little annoyance can be corrected in a Firmware upgrade.
Also why isn't Creative advertising the 40GB player? All there pages still show the 20GB.Message Edited by TimT on 0-7-2005 03:25 PM

  • Will my incoming Zen Touch 40gb drive my headphon

I just recently bought a Zen Touch 40gb, and it should be here any day now.
I am wondering if this little bugger is going to be able to dri've my Labtec Elite-840 headphones. I've had problems with the power required to dri've these beasts before.
Thanks for any reply!Message Edited by cerbeos on 03-02-2005 03:46 PMMessage Edited by cerbeos on 03-02-2005 03:55 PM

Short of trying it it's difficult to say. If the Touch doesn't have enough power then you can always consider a headphone amp, but this is another box, with more batteries, to carry around.
If you have bought the Touch in Europe make sure to update with an International firmware from Nomadworld.com downloads.

  • Repairs to Zen Touch 40gb in UK

    Hi,
i have had a zen touch 40gb unit for nearly 2 years. Very pleased overall but like many things the newer models get smaller and lighter.
However, like many others on this forum, i have dropped the unit and now the touch pad / front buttons wont work. I had 5000+ songs on, which i deleted so i could update the firmware etc.
I contacted Customer Services and was told that they don't do this model no more and cannot accept it for repair. They offered me to purchase an Vision M or Vision at a discounted rate to compensate me for my troubles.
This raised a few thoughts - Do Creative have major problems with this and other models and find a way round it by offering other models? I find it hard to beli've that so many people have had same problems and not got the issues resolved. It seems once it packs up, thats it - finito!!
I have ordered a new Vision M (as i was planning to purchase it anyway, with the proceeds of my Zen Touch contributing to it).
Does anyone know where i could send my Zen Touch to be repaired in the UK. It seems criminal to have a 40gb unit going to waste, particularly as it still plays tunes. I just need someone to repair the touch pad and buttons. It could be something very simple, but I am no TECHY!!
    I would appreciate any help.
    regards
    Manthevab

    John
    Thanks for your quick response.
Without going into the whole story - I knew it was out of warranty therefore i wasnt expecting a replacement, however I expected the offer of at least a REPAIR.
I am not an expert with these players, but i assume something has slipped inside the unit and this has made the right hand side buttons and touch pad redundant.
I accept what you are saying about replacing with a newer model at a discounted rate, however i paid over ?230 two years ago and did not expect to be paying again 2 years later, except in a case where i sold my old one to part fund a new one.
I now have a 40gb hard dri've player, which is unusable. I just want to know if there is a company that might be able to fix the problem for me.
John, if you can help, i would appreciate it.
    Regards
    Manthevab

You can download drivers and applications for the player on this site, just click on Support -> Downloads.

  • Zen Touch 40GB: USB connection dies mid-transfer.

I just received a brand new 40GB Zen Touch. While transferring a group of songs to it (whether via MediaSource or Media Player) it successfully transfers a few before freezing, waiting for a minute, and then claiming that either the Zen Touch is no longer connected or is busy. The only way to remedy the problem is to unplug the USB cable and reconnect - after which the same cycle is always repeated (a few songs, then freezing...).
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Zen Touch 40GB and Windows Vista

    Hi-
Apologies for opening a new thread,I can see there have been others on the same subject but cannot make head nor tail of them from the search function.
I have a 40GB Zen touch thats nearly full,I love it,its the best device I've ever had or ever will, can't speak more highly of it but my Windows XP laptop is gone , and the new one came with Vista .
Can anyone tell me how I can either add more music? or even get Vista to recognise my device. I cannot find a driver or software anywhere that will work. so I cannot add anymore new music or even get access to what I already have
    thanks

$A longer-term, but one-time solution for the Zen Touch, Xtra & Micro (and a few, but not most, Sleeks & MicroPhotos) with original Creative PDE drivers and .x.x firmware (read the FAQs for more details):
Find a PC with Windows XP (SP2 or higher) and WMP 0 (not 9, not ). Download & install the Creative PDE drivers from this site. Connect your player. Backup any irreplaceable files to the PC (the next step will reformat your player). Download & install the "PlaysForSure" firmware update (2.x.x) from this site. Restore any files you backed up in step 5. Disconnect your player & uninstall the PDE drivers.<This will update your player to MTP (aka PlaysForSure), which is nati'vely supported in Windows XP (with WMP 0 or ), Vista & 7 without any additional drivers. (MTP drivers are also available from this site for certain older versions of Windows.) WMA DRM files can be transferred via WMP; other files can be transferred using WMP, Windows Explorer, or MTP/PlaysForSure-updated Creative software from this site.
The other post describes a kludge someone used to get an older Zen (with only PDE firmware) to work with Vista; it may or may not work. Creative does not support PDE-firmware players in Vista or 7.

You didn't answer the question. Did you install that SPECIFIC download I mentioned? This is fundamental to get the Touch to work with MediaSource.

  • Zen Touch 40GB Cradle for the c

I'd like to set up some sort of cradle system in my car so I can just slide my Zen Touch in. Where can I find such an animal?

I have a Zen Touch, and I just recently got Napster To-Go. It's great. Installed the new firmware, no problem. The only complaint I have is that skipping through protected songs is SLOW. Sometimes it will take like 0 seconds (seriously) to skip to the next song.
That's ONLY with the protected songs with the new firmware. Un-protected songs are fine.

  • Zen Touch 40GB - Napster to Go Transfer Probl

Running Windows XP (Service pack 2)
    Running Version 2..0
I am having problems transferring Napster to Go music to my Touch.
I have tried doing it on two different computers. At first I tried just transferring in the Napster program. I would get some of it transferred and then I would get a transfer error message asking me to re-attach my player. When I dettached it and re-attached it I wouldn't be able transfer anymore music.
I then tried using Creative Media Source. I imported all of my Napster to Go tracks and organized them into playlists. I tried clicking and dragging the tracks and I would get error messages regarding Licenses on A LOT of the tracks. I tried synching and same problem. Also, synching takes a long time - like a day and a half for 3000 tracks.
Any ideas? I do not know very much about this subject, just trial and error, so any "dumbed down" advice would be great. I have had thing thing for six months and am not enjoying it much!
    THANKS!

My account status does indeed state "Acti've Napster To Go" and was just billed $4.95 on 2/4. I initially upgraded the account to?NTG on?/4?and was able to successfully transfer for a few weeks.

  • Zen Touch 40Gb and Ctpde

    Hi,
Has anybody experienced problems loading tracks onto the above machine
and the CPU suddenly rockets up to 00% and Nomad Explorer grinds to a
halt? I look at the processes and CtpdeSrv has drained my CPU power
I have logged a call with Support but have got no response as yet.
My firmware revision is .0.03 and have followed the instructions of rebuilding
the library but this has made no difference.
I don't have any plans to upgrade to the new super dooper firmware just yet
    Many thanks for any advice,
    Phil.

    Many thanks SSR
I have downloaded the latest driver and it transfers
    data just fine.
    Many thanks for your help

  • Zen Touch 40GB User Guid

I just purchased it yesterday, where is the User Guide? I have a booklet for Quick Start, but that's it. Is it on the CD? If so where?
    Thanks!

You can download the manual from the "Product Documentation" section of the support page.

  • Zen Touch 40GB file transfer probl

This is my second player, the first one was set off for testing and this new one has the same problem.
Dunno whats up with it, been on the phone to support and took all the steps, formatted it, reset it and all that over and over..
Whenever I go to put music (mp3 format) onto it I get the message "the file cannot be created, reset player and try again".. so I do and it still wont do it.
Any suggestions before this player ends up out the window.

Sounds like a connectivity problem, which are always difficult to troubleshoot.
First thing to try, install the drivers and software on another PC and see if it works there. If it does, then it's a compatibility issue with your PC.

  • Zen Touch 40gb help/suggestions reques

Hey guys you have helped me out before so I'm hoping you can come through for me again. I searched for someone with similar problems but couldn't find any good answers. I have not updated the firmware because I was not having too many problems earlier and I am afraid that I won't be able to reload my music collection very easily.
)The player will not charge through the AC adapter, only through the USB port. If I plug in the AC adapter when it needs to be charged it jumps immediately up to three batteries, but will die as soon as I take it off the charger, no matter how long I leave it plugged in. Although this is usually just a hassle, I think it may prevent me from adding much music. Will the player die if I try to transfer too many songs and it drains the power? I know that usually it doesn't charge unless the player is turned off.
2)Just recently I have been unable to add music to the player. Using NOMAD Explorer I can usually delete files, but am unable to add any new files or edit files that are currently on the player. It says that an error has been encountered and then if I try to reopen the program it stalls for a very long time and will encounter the error with the first track I try to transfer. I only have around /2 gb left worth of hd space, so thought that maybe that was part of the problem. I tried deleting enough folders so that the space wouldn't be an issue but this didn't solve the problem. I tried transferring the files using Creative Mediasource organizer but this only worked for about fi've albums.
I'm not sure if it could be related, but I didn't have any problems until after I installed software for a friend's Ipod. I deleted the software in case it made some sort of conflict without resolution.
Thanks for any help or info.!

It only charges when off, so yes the battery may expire during transfer.

I doubt it's related. How does PlayCenter or MediaSource work?
