Zen Touch appears em

I've had my creative zen touch for more than a year and a half and used it every day with it working fine. A few months ago, Mediasource loaded it as empty on my PC, but it is actually full. However all my music is still on it and i can play directly from the player but not through my computer. I've tried opening the player through other programs but this doesn't work either. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of the Creative software that came on the CD with it'sbut it hasn't worked. Does anybody know why this is and how i can fix the problem I can't put any new music on it. Please help me if you can, none of the 20GB of music on it is backed up (due to lack of space on my computer) and I don't know what I'd do if i lost it all. Without music, life wouldn't be fair. Thanks very much in advance. Jonny.

Hi, I get sometimes the same problem, try to turn on in recovery mode & clean up:
Go to www.creative.com -> support -> knowledge base ->and select you player, & search: "Recovery Mode: What to Do And How To Access"
& follow the instructions.
I cleaned up my player, but this action erased my songs. So,back up your files before do this.

I have a zen touch w/ the updated firmware, and i just updated all the software.. the mediasource suite?
anyhow, I've been using windows media player to sync my zen touch. I just autosynced them on WMP, and it worked just dandy. however, i just downloaded the mediasource suite thing, and none of the playlists that are on my zen touch appear when i look at the zen touch media explorer. is there any way to access them?
The reason why this matters to me is because i'd like to be able to transfer songs from my zen touch to another comp some time and the zen touch media explorer has that feature. and it'd be infinitely easier to do it via playlist than song by song. especially since windows media player organized all the songs into separate folders by artist.
I did look for this question on the forums before i posted, but i didn't see a clear answer.Message Edited by erink02 on -28-2005 0:22 AM

The playlists appear correctly on the player right? If so then this could be a problem with Zen Media Explorer itself, not sure of a fix hopefully someone does.
As for getting songs off your player in that structure (Artist\Album\song_title.mp3) then you can use Windows Explorer/My Computer. Open that up and you should see your player listed, you can then highlight, copy, and paste it onto your computer. Playlists are not recognized in Windows Explorer so you will have a problem with that.

  • Creative Zen Touch no longer docking; problem has appeared out of the bl

For the last couple of years, I've used my Creative Zen Touch without any issues. I managed to upgrade to the MTP firmware with no troubles whatsoever. When I tried to plug it in a few days ago and add a number of songs, the computer no longer recognised the player. The USB ports seem fine, and when I plug it in the player boots. It doesn't come up with the "docked" screen on the player, however, and in Windows a "trying to add new hardware wizard" window pops up that never used to pop up before. Whatever I try to do, it never works. I'm using Windows XP SP2 and like I said, I never used to have any issues before until this popped out completely unexpected. It just won't realise that the Zen Touch is a MTP player for some reason!

The people on the forum who would respond are customers, like you, being rude to them probably won't encourage them to help.

  • OK, Zen Touch Owners, Listen Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, when I tried to update the firmware on my Zen Touch to the PlaysForSure update, all of the original firmware was removed, and I could do nothing. This happened to a lot of other users, and most of their solutions seemed to be unique to the secondary computer they used. After searching through several threads, I finally found a solution that worked when nothing else would. Thank you so much Evil_Queen_Lisa for solving the problem: Step - Before you upgrade your firmware, back up your files as they will be lost. If you are here, unfortunately this is probably too late for you, but I figured I'd add it anyway. Step 2 - If you have licensed music - back up your licenses to an external source (like a USB key)->Go to WMP ->Tools ->License Management ->backup ->select your external dri've ->backup Step 3 - Restart your computer Step 4 - In "Add or Remove Programs" with "Show Updates" selected:***Note: you MUST uninstall in this order!!***a)uninstall windows media player , restart when prompted (also refered to as "Rollback" )b)uninstall windows medial player RunTime, restart when promptedc)uninstall Microsoft User-Mode Driver Frameworks Feature Pack .0 (and not something else with a similar name like .NET), restart your computer Step 5 - Download and install windows media format 9.5 RunTime from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx FamilyId=73C2650F-BE6-4BD6-8408-FD6E7827CD8 Step 6 - In "Add or Remove Programs" with "Show Updates" selected:Uninstall all software and drivers by Creative **Note: If you have a creative sound card (like "audigy" or "soundblaster" ) be carefull not to uninstall it's drivers / software! Restart your computer Step 7 - Plug your zen into its power outlet, and from recovery mode select "clean up" Quick Suggestion by Baffled: With your Zen plugged in, go to Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager and select Portable Devices. Right-click Zen Touch, and select Uninstall. Step 8 - Download the newest driver and the firmware for your Zen from here: (make sure you have the correct player and country) http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/ Step 9 - Install the driver, and plug in your zen when prompted. If a pop up appears asking you what you want to do (ie open with WMP) just click cancel. Step 0 - Open the firmware upgrader ->click upgrade ->follow the instructionsif its successful -> CONGRATULATIONS!!! you are fixed!! I suggest you run your windows update wizard, and reinstall everything once your zen is working properly (it should work fine with WMP ). If this works for you, or doesn't, please post a reply and keep this thread ali've! Any moderators out there, please sticky this. It's a big and frustrating problem, and this is the only solution that appears to work uni'versally (three friends did this too).

Well, from the looks of things, more devices are having problems with firmware updates, without any solutions put forward from the manufacturer. Poor show, Creative.

  • Creative Zen Touch Vs. Mi

I am looking for a new mp3 player to buy, and would like to get a creative one but I am having a few problems, hoping some of you could help me.
On the tocuh version (20gig) is there ANY way that you could make it so you can use it as an external dri've (so you don't have to install the software)? Then, once the battery dies (not discharges but I mean dies) what do you do? On the Ipod you could hack it and put another one in for a much cheaper price than apple offers, but what do you do with the zen touch?
And for the Zen Micro is there a way where you can use it with plain windows explorer (drag and drop).
For someone that has tried both, which would you recommend?
Thank you all for your comments.

Note the headphone jack fiasco has not been confirmed (read below). There is only speculation and hope that someone at Creative has worked out how to turn on the soldering iron.
As for the battery fiasco, Creative have 'officially' said that they intend to release updated firmware this month that should reduce 'sleep/standby mode' from 24 hours to 4. Fingers crossed!

[b]Based on information within this forum, the last known hardware revisions has been November 2004. And this revisions was not to the headphone jack, but to the faceplate.</B>
To date, no one can officially confirm if the headphone jack on newer players has been revised. There have been Creative (Phone) Technical Support implying changes have been made to the jack, however this has been verified by a forum moderator to be false. There are however, "ongoing hardware revisions" which you can interpret how you like, but don't appear to impact the headphone jack design/manufacture.
Right now, if you believe the estimated numbers, only a minority of owners are affected. Alternati'vely, those who have opened the Zen Micro will concur the headphone jack is extremely vulnerable due to it's weak connection to the circuit board (which consist of 3 "glued" points). It is only time before this is a growing problem due to the poor design described.
Do you buy a Zen Micro and take the risk or wait until the issue is resolved? The answer really depends on how good you are with a solder gun...

My computer does not recognize the Zen Touch when trying to download music to the Touch. The USB appears to be working on my hp loaded with XP. Cannot download from Real Player either. Cleaning the Creative disk did not help. What am I doing wrong?

  • Zen Touch is frozen, won't shut off, doesn't reset, e

I just bought my Zen Touch about a month ago. All has been going great until this morning when I found the screen frozen in shut-down mode. I reset it - but when it boots itself back up, none of the buttons work, I can't shut it off, etc. Basically, the entire thing is frozen! I'm really disappointed as I heard so many great things about Creative and I spent a lot of money on this product.
Can anyone help me with this? I'm not that tech-savvy and need any assistance! Thanks.

Right, first download the latest firmware from the site, or even if you have already done it, it may be corruipted.
You'll need to go into Recovery Mode. Hopefully its the same with all players:
Get a pin and put it into reset while holding the power button in the power direction and wait a few seconds. Then take the pin out, still holding the power down. After its booted up, the Recvoery mode will appear.
Now go to Reload firmware or something similar, and start the downloaded program up on the PC. When it says to do so, connect it up using USB, and select Update, even if it warns about it being the same one.
(Hopefully you won't have to format, as you do on some players before updating )
After that, it should rebuild. Then go into Recovery Mode again, and run a Disk Cleanup to check there aren't any errors on the disk.
Hopefully, all should be okay again then!
    Good luck with it

  • Zen Touch is fro

I bought my Zen Touch in Sept 05, & built up a modest 900 tracks. Two weeks ago I turned it on, it showed 'now playing' but it had frozen. I could not turn it off. Reset turned it off and back on to its frozen state. I could not access Recovery Mode. Creative suggested letting battery run down, connect to charger and at 3rd attempt I was able to access Recovery Mode. Clean Up did not work. The Organiser prog does not recognise the player when I connect it to the PC so I cannot back up my tracks. Using skip or any other button did nothing. Format All and /or Reload Firmware would lose all content.
What a dreadful state of affairs. I know there are 900 tracks in this little box but Creative has no way of accessing them. This must be the worst product I have ever bought. The Zen Touch should come with a health warning to back up everything but I don't suppose Creative want to say how such a disastrous fault might happen.

I sympathise. To be fair, you wouldn't expect there to be a dead end, no-further-help-available scenario, but the bad news is, that's what appears to be on the cards.
The symptoms you describe are pretty similar to what happened to me. Though, through a huge amount of random retrying, I did get it to restart (I have no idea why it suddenly chose to, but after 6 days, it did, so keep trying!), and I was eventually able to back up my 2000 tracks before trying to solve the problem (it was still freezing).
But when I was finally able to access the recovery mode and do a disk clean up, and then try to reload the firmware (I tried to load all the available firmwares, including the PlayForSure Firmware, which DOES wipe the disk clean), the player wouldn't respond. In fact I'm now in a worse situation, cause I now have a non-responsi've and EMPTY mp3 player (see my thread, probably above).
So, no good news on that front as nobody appears to know the right solution (but thanks to all those who have made suggestions) and I am stuck with a ?70, 4 month-old empty dead turkey. A distinct absence of useful advice from anyone at Creative too, you'll notice.
So, it's not just you, and I'm afraid there are a number of us in a similar state of disappointment.
By another Creative product? Dunno. Who's to say this is not a problem that could happen to any MP3 player? All I know is that I would definitely think twice about it next time, especially when considering the aftersales support.

  • Transfering Files from a Zen Touch to a Zen Vis

<font face="Tahoma" size="2"><span class="7652947-2822006">Please help. I just purchased a Zen Vision, and I can't figure out how to transfer files. I had a Zen Touch and managed all my files in Creative MediaSource and it was very simple. I now have thousands of songs on my hard dri've and can't seem to figure out how to transfer them properly. I tried to synchronize, but it seems to be duplicating, naming songs as albums, not capturing all songs in an album, etc. I've also tried to drag and drop and that doesn't seem to be working for me either. Is there any easy way for me to download all songs as they currently appear in my Mediasource? Also, should I delete all the files I have already copied over that are incorrect and start from scratc?. Any help would be much appreciate because I am definitely at my wit's end!? Thank you.

Take a look at skydrive. Thats what I use. I save all my files on there and not my harddrives.

  • Zen Touch Rem

    Hi
It would appear that Creative (bless 'em) have now killed off the wired remote for the Zen Touch and other older players.
Now my problem is that my remote has ceased working properly (loss of signal / distortion to the headphones) and is long out of warranty. There's obviously a bad connection at the player end of the cable, but having taken it apart it does not look at all user servicable.
So, do I have any alternati've to paying ?70 on ebay for a non-guaranteed replacement?
I'm really annoyed with Creative over this, since the remote's a good piece of kit when it's working properly.
    Thanks for any help.

Have you asked Creative whether they can repair it's

  • Zen Touch first-charge probl

    Hello,
I have received a Zen Touch, and I plugged it in to charge it for the first time, but no battery meter appears to tell me how it is charging. When I turn it on while it is plugged in, the icon at the upper left is the plug only, which means that it is simply running off of external power...nothing about it being charged. Any help would be appreciated, maybe some of you have suggestions or stories about your first charge. The player works fine when it is plugged in, but it doesn't appear to be charging.

If your battery isn't charging you should first try resetting the player. If this doesn't help then try running a disk cleanup. For the Zen Touch: To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. For the Zen Micro: To access the Rescue Mode on the Zen Micro, remove the battery, hold the power switch to the "on" position, reinsert the battery. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu.
If this still doesn't help then connect the transformer to the wall socket, and the Zen to the transformer. Then turn the wall socket switch on and off several times. The power spike *might* jump the charging circuit.
If this still doesn't help then contact Customer Support.

  • Zen touch software killed my co

the day i recieved my zen touch i installed the software that came with it which was about a week ago now. A couple of days ago I tried to connect to Realplayer to rip my music becasue it is much better than the creative software. As i went to open realplayer i noticed that it would freeze right after it started. I contacted Creative through email and was told qoute "the only thing that happened is that when installing
the MediaSource Software your preferences where switched to MediaSource.
In order to correct this, you will need to uninstall and reinstall
MediaSource. NOTE: that when reinstalling MediaSource you will be asked
if you want MediaSource to overtake the similar functions of other
software. You will need to select NO when this option appears.
    Best Regards,
    James
Thats great becuause first off I dont get the option to set priority when i uninstall then reinstall the software. And secondly after doing so realplayer still doesnt work and now neither does my zen software. And thirdly now that i reinstalled i get a message stating that Error number 0x8004020 an event was unable to invoke.... anyways now i can not reinstall the software to even connect the zen to the computer. SO now i am stuck because i did a system restore with no evail and cant completely unistall or reinstall ANY of the software makeing my zen touch a paper weight. hope someone can help because aparently Creative cant.

in addition i have also used the procedure on your site "unable to invoke subscribers... setup will terminate" tutorial and it did nothing I just want to know is there anything i can do since i have literaly tried everything. This problem doesnt only concern me though since this 0x8004020 problem is associated with other software from creative. IF anyone has had this problem i need to know how to fix it because im just getting frustrated with this whole situation and the lack of support from creative is giving me second thoughts on their products and customer support.

  • Zen touch has fro

    Hey all,
    I hope someone can help.
My zen touch (20gb) player froze whilst turning off, i let it sit but eventually had to reset it to get it to go off, since then i havent been able to turn it back on and it wont charge, the blue charge indicating light doesnt appear and when i plug it in all i get is the creative logo and the copyright info, i've tried the reboot advice on creatives web page, but that desnt work either!!!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Iain

My zen touch freezes from time to time, done all the usual things without any improvement. But today discovered that it freezes when used near some electrical equipment for example my wife old treadmill which uses an ac motor, its ok with the new treadmill with a dc motor. So it appears that the zen touch suffers from electrical interference, generally this is in the rf range (radio frequency). I hope this helps many users as it was driving me crazy and it appears it's a huge problem with many people.

  • Compatability with PCMCIA USB 2 & Zen Touch

    Hi,
My laptop only has USB . built in so I have recently purchased a PCMCIA USB 2 card. It appears that the card is functioning correctly and there are no problems when used with my digital camera, printer or mouse. However, when I connect the Zen Touch it starts working initially...the player says that it's docked and it seems to communicate with the computer (bringing files up in MediaSource etc...) but as soon as I try to transfer files to or from the devide the computer crashes. Firstly MediaSource stops responding, then Windows entirely freezes meaning I have to hold the power down button to reset the machine.
Please, please, please can someone help me with this problem...it's driving me insane!!
    Thanks, Tom.

I know it works properly on USB but I dont own a desktop PC to try try it on there. There was a suggestion that it may be that there is not enough power getting to the Zen from the USB socket but the software with the USB card shows the power levels and it is being supplied plenty of power.
I am becoming more curious about what is going on here becasue now I am unable to transfer music through the USB sockets on the laptop. MediaSource start to transfer then brings up and error saying that some other application is using the Zen or something along those lines.
Anyhow, I am now stuck because I dont have any other way of transferring music to or from the player.

  • Zen touch stuck in recovery mode after usual update attempt.HE

I like many others on the forum have attempted to carry out the firmware update only to be left in the same position as many others. My zen touch is now stuck in the recovery mode with no firmware and my pc wont recognise the player. The o/s on my pc is windows xp professional version 2002 service pack 2. I have wiped the hard dri've and installed a copy of windows 2000 but still no luck. I re-installed windows xp and now in device manager i have a creative zen touch showing and also a pci modem both with yellow ? marks next to them with a message of re-install drivers code 28,however the drivers are already installed with the latest driver from the creative web site. It appears that the pc wont recognise the player because there is no firmware installed. I have tried almost everything that has been mentioned on the forum and am now at my wits end. The player was working perfectly well before trying the firware update and i think that it is disgusting that a company as large as creative has not helped more with this problem ,looking at the amount of people that has had this same thing happen to them.Any help from you good people out there would be much appreciated. Thank you.Paul.

I too tried the 'upgrade' and now my Zen is history. I will not give up - I just do not have the hours that it will take to fix available to me right now.
I am very serious, Creative People, I have 2 suggestions:
) remove the faulty upgrade from your website
    2) Fire the person who initiated the upgrade.
I certainly wouldn't have a job if I created an upgrade like this.
