Zen Touch battery life after 1 year -

There are periodic questions on this forum from people concerned about the battery life of non-user-replaceable batteries on players such as the Touch and the Sleek. I have had my Touch for a year, and decided to conduct a test to see how much the battery life had decreased. I did 2 tests, one using WMA 64kbs and the other using MP3 CBR 28kbs.
Here are my results:
WMA 64: 25.5 hrs
MP3 28: 25 hrs.
Essentially, there has been no reduction from the rated battery life of 24 hrs. I didn't do a similar test when I first bought my Touch, so I don't know if the original battery life was even more than this, but this is impressi've either way.

For sure, and with all the players I think that use Lithium Ion batteries

That's great to here. BatteryUni'versity.com quotes about a 20% drop in life over the first year, although I guess it varies with usage. Thanks for posting this useful data!

  • IPod Touch battery life after 2.1

I'm having some problems after the update. A fully charged iPod will have lost its charge after a night at standby. While connected the iPod shows battery at full capacity even though iTunes gets the battery level right. The screen is also fully lit at all times while tethered, unless I manually turn it off.

Just went through a complete Restore; plugged into iTunes, click the Restore, confirm and waited 10 minutes or so for it go through the process. Reinstated settings from backup - Apps, email, Notes, etc. Podcasts and Music Videos copied back also.
Set to Autolock after 1 minute, screen now fades after 45 seconds, switches to sleep after 1 minute, so it looks like this did the trick.
Will wait for the battery to charge and see how that's holding up now. Promising start though, the battery indicator went from red to green when it wasn't even connected to the Mac.
Just need to copy back all the music that was on it now... Suppose it was due for a bit of a shuffle anyhow

  • MBP 13" Aug09, lost 2 hours battery life after upgrading to SL

Hi, my Macbook Pro bought on Aug 09 lost 2 hours of battery life after an upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard.
I brought it to the Apple service center where they checked the battery and they said that the battery has no problem.
Then, they suggest me to format my mac and reinstall Snow Leopard on a clean disk which i did without any success.
So now, my battery still hold 100% of it's original capacity (over 5450mAh) but my battery died before 3 hours with 0 program running !? (it used to last over 5.5 hours while running Leopard)
What's the matter with my battery.
And of course, i tried all the calibration before i post this topic.
If anyone can help now, it would be so great ! can't expect anything from Apple as they consider my battery as new.
    Thanks !

I too have been experiencing worse battery life.
I used to have about 3.5 hours on my now one year old Unibody MBP.
After SL (and switch from original 5400rpm to seagate momentus 7200rpm) I'm now down at about 2 hours.
    Wifi enabled
    Bluetooth enabled
    Brightness around 80%
2 hours is very little compared to the promised 5 hours.
    My battery stats:
    Health: 94%
    Cycles: 112
    Full charge: 4344mAh
Feels like I'm on an old lousy PC laptop again.

  • Zen Touch freezes even after full recha

I have a 20gb Zen Touch that I have not used for the past few weeks(This is because of my new toy, my 30BG Zen Vision M). Figuring that the battery was discharged or something because of the lack of use, I recharged it fully. I turn it on and it gets stuck on the "Zen Touch" screen. I have tried to reset the Touch numerous times, but it still gets stuck on that screen. Somehow, I think the Zen Touch battery is fried. Help!

Well you can't get to recovery mode. Only thing left to do replace the hardri've. That's most likely why it won't go into recovery.

  • I Have been getting BAD battery life after the ICS UPDATE !! on the DROID RAZAR MAXX have this happen to any one else ??????

i have been getting really bad battery life after install ICS on my droid razar maxx i can only go 1 day and 3 hours where i used to be able to go 2 day easy have this happen to anyone else can someone tell me how i can make my battery life better??????/ and do i need to let my phone go complete dead before fully chargeing it again ??????
before install the ICS update i had 30 percent of battery life remaining so i pluged it in and let charged for a little bit while it updated my phone and ever thing after it updated i unplug my phone and started playing on my phone to see what ICS was all about but when it got to 15 and said " connect to your changer so i did !!!!! should i haved let my phone going complete dead since i unplug without it fully changer or does it matter ?????????????? if someone could please help me !!!!:)

What was your battery reading right after the update when you unplugged the phone? I have never let my Maxx drain further than 20% battery ever before I charge it. Yesterday after the update I also played more with the phone trying to learn the OS, as did most everyone on this forum. Give it a few days of your normal use before you decide your battery life has decreased. I took my phone off charger today at noon, it was 100%, and now it's 80%, with about 30 min talk time, and mostly standby. that's about normal batt life for me, maybe a little better than before the update. I'm still going to watch it for a few days before I make a conclusion about battery life.

  • Wireless driver triggers warm/hot macbook and low battery life after OS 10.8 mountain lion upgrade

    Hello frustrated Macbook users.
I have tried to get help on other Apple discussions but no one seems to want to help, they aren't actually reading my posts, or they hate me for some reason.
    No matter.
If you have a warm Macbook that has 2.5 hours of battery life where you used to have 4 or more, please do this simple procedure and write the result below.
    Turn OFF Airport wireless networking
Perform an SMC reset (Power Manager)
Connect an ethernet cable and use your Macbook normally. (but do NOT turn on wireless networking again)
How is your battery life after doing this?
I have a user over here who reclaimed decent battery performance if he doesn't use his Airport wireless.
    I need confirmation.
If so, I may get a USB wireless adapter and see if the battery life stays good.
Bonus points:  If you have a Mac compatible USB wireless adapter and got good results by turning off the built-in adapter, want to test it for me and report the results?
    Thanks and good luck!

    UPDATE:
Problem persists when using Recovery Partition.
Chance sthat it is third party softwae or updates is more or less eliminated.
Update 10.8.3 beta fixed the problem for one lucky early adopter.
Hypothesis: New battery charging algorithms programmed into Mountain Lion OS10.8 triggered problems from design flaws that were NOT an issue for OS 10.7 and before.
Battery replacements were successful where the replacement battery was built within tolerances that did not fail under 10.8's new charging algorithms. Other bateries did not meet those tolerances so you would get spotty results from battery replacements.  It worked sometimes, but not always.
OS 10.8.3 may have adjusted these algorithms to be less demanding on the features of the battery that were failing.
Official word from Apple is 'mum'.

  • What is going on the my battery life, after installing Mavericks, what a drain!!!

What is going on the my battery life, after installing Mavericks, what a drain!!!

You can try resetting the SMC and NVRAM.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
You can also try running the short and/or extended Apple hardware test by holding D button while booting up and then following the instructions.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
If that doesn't work (seems not extremely likely that it will) you can backup and try reinstalling a fresh OS.
If that still doesn't work maybe the battery is bad.  If you don't feel like messing with all that just take it to Apple.  They should have a test they can perform.

  • Is it normal for iPhone 4S to lose 1% battery life after 2-3 minutes of using?

Is it normal for iPhone 4S to lose 1% battery life after 2-3 minutes of using? So in 2 hours, 24 minutes usage and 15 hours, 17 minutes  in standby mode, the battery became 68%...

    sounds plausable
also you can't really 100% trust it's batt% batteries are an analog technology the only thing the iphone can judge how much batt is left is by measuing amp amount the batt is producing and then over time estimating how long before it's zore
but anyway Its not wise to not put a battery for charge before bed when it's 12%
if your reason is you think it's good for batteries to be empty before charging then you believe in a myth and in the process damaging the battery in your ios device

  • HT1414 anyone noticing a decline in battery life after downloading ios7????

anyone noticing a decline in battery life after downloading ios7?

I have an iphone 5. Ios 7 is a disaster for battery life! It used to drain about 1% every two hours, 5% over night roughly (not being used). Now it is draining at double the rate. It drained 10% over night and it isn't even doing a thing. I think something is clocking up usage when it's idle.
    Screen brightness is minimal.
Background app updating is restricted to one app which isn't running the majority of the time.
Dynamic wall paper and other stupid stuff is all turned off.
I can't turn off the stupid clock animation. I wonder if working out how that is displayed is the issue???
It shouldn't be draining at 1% per hour when not even being used.
Favourite locations is still switched on.
Is there any benefit in turning off wifi and using 3g data only? I had the issue before that having 3g enabled meant double the battery drain so I only used it when I was out.
Ipad mini seems fine though. Battery life is same as last ios6 ie about 14-16 hours use.
I now have caret running to find out what the rogue thing is. The majority of the time few apps are running at all.
My general average usage is 12-15% per day if lightly used and 25-45% if it is moderately used. Now the phone is draining at 25-33% a day when lightly used!
Beats me why an ipad mini which is advertised at up to 10 hours on wifi nearly doubles that and the iphone which is advertised at the same rarely reaches it. I usually get 8 hours of active use if I'm lucky. Now it's more like 5-6 which is hopeless.

  • Hot battery and short battery life after download of Mountain Lion.

Hot battery and short battery life after download of Mountain Lion.  Any suggestions?

    As in, shortly after install?
Note after you install Mountain Lion it's likely that the Spotlight index will be rebuilt.  This will take some time and the machine will run hot.  After this completes, which could take 1-2 hours, things should return more to normal.
If they don't, I suggest running Activity Monitor and seeing if you can trace what is eating up CPU cycles.

  • IPod Touch 5th gen suddenly has terrible battery life after updating to ios 8.0.2!

I updated to ios 8.0.2 around 2 weeks ago and bam! the next day I wake up and use my ipod (I usually leave it on during the night, and battery is still good) and it's down to 50%, then to 20% later! And now the battery is terrible! it goes down much faster than before! I have bluetooth and all the battery killer stuff off before, so my battery was really good...and now it's horrible!
Have you guys experienced this? Any solutions? Is this some bug?

  • Zen Touch Battery Is

    Hi,
Just recently I bought a Zen Touch. I've always charged after the "low battery" sign is displayed, played songs at 92 Kbps, and rarely used equilizer settings. However, I'm still beginning to notice severe shortening of battery life. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong/what I should do to prevent this? Thanks.Message Edited by t3hggnore on 03-27-200605:32 PM

I agree that comment was totally uncalled for...
Charging the battery when the?battery is totally depleated can do more harm than good especally with the type of battery in these players, I would reccomend that its charged as soon as the battery hits one bar on the display.
Charging via USB is slower compaired to DC charging. If you use a DC adapter when your player's battery is almost depleated then it , charges faster and 2, it's supplying a fair enough voltage and current and also delei'vers a deeper charge compared to USB charging

  • Zen Touch Battery Quest

when i first bought my zen touch, i started loading songs on it through theusb port because i was told that the usb also charges the battery, but i didnot realize that the usb only charges the battery when the player is turnedoff, so when i loaded my first batch of music onto my player the battery wasnot charging like i thought, so i kept going back and forth from the acadaptor to the usb just to make sure the player was working and to load somemusic onto the player and listen to it to make sure it worked correctly, then i realized i had to fully charge the battery before i could really useit. so after doing all this i decided to just charge the battery fullythrough the ac adaptor before loading anymore music and playing any moremusic on my zen touch. i hope by starting off like this that i didnt do anydamage to the battery or shorten the life of it between charges because ididnt fully charge it at first before doing any transfering and playing ofmusic. please tell me there is no possiblity of ruining the battery life percharge or overall by doing what i did.thank you

It's hard to know for sure. I even contacted the author of BatteryUni'versity.com to ask about initial charging, and he was unsure as to whether it really makes any difference. So the general school of thought at the moment is that an initial charge certainly doesn't do any harm, so it might as well be done (you'll see some manuals even recommending three complete charges and discharges).
