Zen Touch: Device to PC transfer er

I recently formatted my harddri've and want to put all my music back on my PC before I upgrade my Zen Touch's firmware as to not lose all my music and have to go through the whole process again.
BUT....when I select all of my songs in Media Source and press the 'right' arrow to transfer to the correct folder, I run into a slight problem. A few songs will transfer, but then I will get errors the rest of the process. I've updated firmware/app/driver as far as I can before it erases data. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. I cannot find a solution to this. Is this just an isolated problem? Or, are there ways around this?
Thnak you.

Have you:
- Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site.
- Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.

  • Zen Touch/Vista and Slow Transfer - Any Advice?

/Zen Touch/Vista and Slow Transfer - Any Advice?s I recently purchased a new PC with the new Intel i7 quadcore chip running vista.
Everything running blazingly fast, except music transfers to my Zen Touch.
Did the firmware upgrade on my old XP PC (after rolling back Windows Media Player to v0 as mentioned).
Loaded MediaSource 5 on the new Vista PC with the proper drivers (the "playforsure" one, plus the CD burning one). Copied all my media files to the new PC using an external hard-dri've.
I have the 40GB Zen Touch, started transferring all of my 0,888 WMA files to it (96kbps), which normally may take the better part of a day, or overnight,?on the old XP machine.
I'm going on about 2 /2 days now (with the new PC, new firmware, new MediaSource software/drivers)?and finally it's almost finished.
It?started out like gangbusters, song ever second or two, but with each transfer seemed to slow, now doing about song per minute!
I've heard the 'playforsure' software slows things down...but this seems ridiculous. Is there anything I can do?

From the recovery /rescue mode on the player do a Cleanup>Reboot. the more files you have on it the slower the dri've may become since it's getting full. Also WMP works faster at least for me with syncing files.

  • Zen Touch File Transfer/Software iss

    First, the nitty gritty:
    I'm running Windows XP
    MediaSource version 3.30.2Firmware version .0.03
In the beginning... I decided I wanted to upgrade my software and firmware to the PlaysForSure versions. The details of the program information said to be sure to backup all of my music seeing as how everything would be deleted during the installation process so I hooked up my 40G Zen Touch to my new laptop, opened up the MediaSource Organizer, adjusted the library settings to drop the music files into an Artist/Album tier and have the file with just the song title. I selected all 8700-some-odd files and began the process of transferring everything onto my laptop. I made sure there was plenty of space for all the files, but not long into the "B's" I started getting the error message: "Error: Unable to read file. File may be in use or corrupted". From that point on I could no longer transfer any files to my computer. I deleted the rest of the que, unplugged the device and took a look at the library. For every file that hit an error it would still drop a file with the track name into a folder of the album within a folder of the artist name - but the actual file was empty, no Kbs. From there I made sure I had the newest and most recent upgrades and plugins (prior to PlayForSure) to fix any bugs. I deleted all the transferred files and started over - again, in the "B's" I got the same message. I repeated this on a different computer with the same results. Once I get the error none of my songs will transfer.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

<SPAN>Here's the thing - we started out as friends, Zen Touch and I...
<SPAN>I double-checked the software and plug-in versions to make sure I had the most current. I attached the device and opened WMP. I can't figure out how to take files from the Zen Touch and put them on to my PC library. I need to transfer my entire cache of music from my Zen to the computer. And I just now realized that when trying to use the MediaSource Organizer earlier it put a file on my computer with the folder name "Man.." and I can't delete it. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that the file name contains two periods - I can't rename the file either, all I get when I try is an error that says "cannot delete: cannot read from the source file or disk". This is getting quite frustrating. More likely than not I don't need the new PlaysForSure upgrade but ) I cannot stand not having the latest upgrade and 2) I need to be able to transfer files easily between the device and my comp, which I was able to do until recently. Again, I beg the techno powers that be - HELP!

  • Direct transfer from camera to zen touch? -usb host- possib

I have Zen touch 40gb,is there usb host function or similiar way to transfer photos from my digital camera(Canon eos-400d) without using computer? i mean direct transfer from camera to my zen touch?thanks in advancebrgds

No, I am afraid it isn't possible. At least, I found this on the "Notmad Explorer" website:
Q:Can I transfer files directly from a digital camera to my player?
A:This is an interesting idea, but unfortunately, the players do not have the hardware or firmware necessary to directly communicate with other USB devices such as cameras. There's nothing we can do about this in software.
    Hope that helps!

  • Develop software for connecting to creative zen touch and other devices not recognized by wind

    hi there,
as a programmer i wonder, is it possible to obtain information of how to connect to usb-connected creative device (which is not recognized automatically by windows, as the zen touch) and how to communicate with it's is there any documentation about that available to "non-creative" ;-) developers?
the idea is to create a plugin (e.g. for musikcube) that enables the programm to access the files on the device.
i know there are third party companies that do provide software for connecting to e.g. zen touch, but i do not think that they have figured out every little bit by themselves, have they?
    greetings and thanks a lot
    asdf

    Try this:
Download <a href='http://www.delldjsite.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=444' target=_blank>this[/url] file. Extract it to whatever folder you like. Inside that folder run the file fixup.cmd. A DOS window will open up and start display messages on what its doing, when its done it will instruct you to remove the device from Device Manager and reconnect it.
Try this and see if it works.

  • Zen Touch (the device itself) case f

    hi
i've got a problem with my zen touch case. I've never dropped it or done somthing wore to it. I really handle it like a raw egg. But now the plastic broke a little bit. as you can see on this pics . Obviously it broke at the same place on both sides. This is the reason why I think this is a material-flaw based problem. Do you think this is enough to RMA it (The Thouch is only 4 month old)? The device itself has no scratches. I realy think that the material of a 200? device should be free of such flaws.

hmm, i'll think about it. because for some reason such things annoy me :-). perhaps I'm an perfectionist.

  • Help using my zen touch to use as a mass storage device

Hello all I have a zen touch DAP-HD004
Does anyoe know of a way to use this as a mass storage device not just for audio media files,
any help would be greatly apreciated
    thanks
    paul roy

Okay, usb_modeswitch works fine.  There is one odd quirk though...  Arch is set up so that it loads XBMC by default (I'm using this as a media PC).  On my old wifi adapter, which does not need modeswitch, the weather and news on XBMC update immediatly when it is started.  With this wifi adapter they do not update at all.  I can tolerate this though, but if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this I'd appreciate it.  Thanks!

  • How to transfer files from Creative Zen Touch to Creative Vision:

Is there a way to transfer my music files from my Creative Zen Touch to my Vision:M?If so, can someone tell me how to do this. ?I know this has probably been asked before but I am new on this message board and am in need of assistance. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you have both the player and you're using MediaSource, just connect both the player to the computer, select one of the player as source and the other as destination and just transfer over it. Note, protected content will not be transfer over though.

  • Zen touch intermittent transfer probl

Hi, just bought a 20gb Zen touch, and I am getting errors when transfering mp3's via Media Source.
I have installed the latest firmware and drivers. It seems to transfer between 800-000 files ok then errors with "Player either not connected or busy - please try later" I have reset the player, formatted the dri've, in fact tried everything in the rescue menu. I have also loaded the software on my laptop and get the same
problem. Do I have a faulty Zen? Cheers.

If you were the only person to encounter it then I would say you had a faulty Zen, but others have had it with other players also. There's lots of connection troubleshooting advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net, some of it relevant and some of it not.
I would personally buy a known good USB card for the desktop PC i.e. Belkin or Adaptec, and see if that solves it. It's not a particularly great solution, but it will tell you straight away if the issue is the USB chipset. Try and buy the card somewhere you can return it if it doesn't help.

  • Zen touch transfer prob

Hi, I'm running win2k usb2.0. I'm only able to transfer about 7 mp3 files before nomad tells me that an unknown failure occurred. The zen touch then stays in docking modus and I have to reboot it. Can someone tell me why that is?

Could be a lot of reasons. Have?a look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

  • Zen Touch, Transfer Ra

Has anybody actually measured the transfer rates using various software to the Zen Touch? (ie Creative MediaSource, WMP0, etc.). I have tried 3 programs, WMP0, MediaSource and Yahoo Music Engine. My perception is that Mediasource is the fastest, YME second, and WMP0 is the slowest. However, that's just a perception--never measured it nor do I know how to measure it.

I've also seen varying rates mentioned, particularly WMP being slow for the older Zens. Although I'm not sure why this should be, other than for some processing overhead, as they're all using the same drivers.
To measure the data rate is pretty easy. Transfer across a reasonable number of files, say 00Mb+. Then simply time how long it takes (using a stopwatch, second-hand of your watch etc.). Then divide the amount of data (easily done by selecting the files transferred, and right-clicking to get their properties) by the time taken. Usually data rates are quoted in Mb/s.
With USB I used to get a fairly horrific 300kb/s. With firewire I used to get around 3Mb/s. And with my latest computer and USB2 I'm getting around 5Mb/s.

  • How do I transfer mp3 files into my Zen touch playe

    Hi guys / gals,
I am the most " illiterate" person on earth when it comes to MP3 files and Creative is not very customer friendly so I really need you help.
I have all my MP3 files loaded but I don't know how to transfer them to my Zen touch and creative "WON'T" respond to my questions.
Can someone please help me ? Thanks.

Open up Normand Explorer and plug in your Zen (download all the drivers and stuff first" From Normand Explorer, go to Zen Touch, Music. Then just copy/past or drag all your songs into Normand Exploere, and the music goes onto the Touch.

  • PLEZ HELP! Zen touch transfer iss

Hi, im havin some issues with my zen touch. It connects fine to mediasource (meanin im able to see zen touch under sources and see the music stored on my touch etc) and i can sometimes transfer music to it from my comouter via usb. However sumtimes it doesnt work, i.e i'l be able to send anywhere between -20 songs to it and then the next song i try to transfer an error message is displayed on media source "player is either busy or not connected, please try again later" then i'l have to leave it for at least half an hour and repeat the process until the problem arises again. U can understand how annoying this is for me especially since im trying to put such a large music collection onto my player. Can any help. i will be grateful 4 any possible solutions..

AliClifton: Connection and transfer issues are always tricky to troubleshoot because it can be many things.
The first thing to try is a disk cleanup, which is very simple to do. To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.
Secondly, make sure you have the latest drivers, software and firmware from Nomadworld.com downloads.
Thirdly, check whether the player has the same problem on a friend's PC.

  • Creative Zen touch - help needed for device t

i have a zen touch but my new cd player with usb input requires the touch to be set to mass storage device to work.
so far i cannot find a way to do this, is there one?

Dan. There?s a site ?Here? that has the driver but it is not supported by Creative Lab?s. But it may work until creative updates their site and ads them. Torstein. Please help me with my post: A Petition to ask Creative to update the firmware of the Zen Touch to Include EAX capabilities.

  • Zen Touch File Transfer/Stor

Im thinking of buying a Zen Touch in the next few weeks but i have one niggling doubt which i haven't been able to resolve over its file storage capabilities.
Can i simply drag and drop file onto it without the need for seperate software, as i intend to make use of my colleges T3 connection and i do not have user privliges to install new software or drivers?
Sorry if this has been brought up before, i couldn't find any info on the matter.

To do so with the zen touch you will need nomad explorer. A program that ties into windows explorer.
If you will need a player that does this take a look at the Zen Micro. You can partition 2GB on the hard dri've of the micro for data only and if you do so it should show up as a removable dri've.
    Torstein.
