Zen Touch - Hang

Hi all,
My Zen Touch hanged last night while I was forwarding the tracks. Whenever I switched it off and on and the screen gets stuck when it shows "Zen Touch" and then it shows me the Recovery Mode. Anyway to fix this?
Thanks.

Try performing a clean up, then select the reboot/reset option. If that does not work, you could try formatting the player and then reboot/resetting the player. If thats still no good, ensure the play button on the player isn't stuck or anything. If it isn't you will need to contact Creative support.

• Zen touch is hang

Hi, I recently purchased my Zen Touch and this has been probably my 3rd charge ever with it. After unplugging the player I tried turning it on it shows me the copyright screen and then the creative touch logo and then just hangs. I have tried resetting it with a paper clip and nothing works, at this point I cant even turn the dang thing off. Any suggestions? I can't even reboot the OS because I can't get the player off. Thanks for any help

I doubt it will damage your player. It's the most simple way to fix it, and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
But if you don't wish to do so, then don't.

• Is your Zen Touch froz

Does it hang at the "Zen Touch" screen? Is it not accesible whatsoever?Okay here's the thing. A lot of people are having this problem, even I had it. So this is what you need to do:
First off, try running a cleanup of your Zen. To run the cleanup you will need toget into Rescue (AKA Recovery) mode.. Turn off your Zen player.2. Hold down the Play/Pause button and insert a paper clip into the Reset hole on the Jukebox Zen.3. Remove the paper clip from the Reset hole and then release the Play/Pause button after the recovery mode has started.4. The Jukebox Zen will enter the Recovery Mode and the following options will be displayed:a. Clean Up (Performs a disk scan on the players harddisk)b. Format All (Formats the players harddisk - Note: all contents will be lost)c. Reload OS (Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox - Note: Reloading your OS, will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen)d. Reboot (Reboots the device)
That's that. It's that simple. The other thing you can do.. is Percussi've Maintenance. Meaning.... Hold the Zen Touch in one hand (back facing you)2. Use the other hand to give it a nice firm whack on the back.3. Restart player using paperclip4. Wait5. It should work now!If you don't believe me.. than go hereNow if that <EM>still</EM> doesn't work. Than contact Tech Support, and if you email them, they will email you back something like this:

Just to add something creative replaced my touch a few weeks ago and it was chipped by the ac adapter. When I say chipped I mean like a noticeable piece was missing so people shouldn't think scratches and other accidents means you'll have to pay for repairs automatically. In case anyone is wondering i keep my zen in my pocket and stuff in there scratches it up but the chip was I accidently dropped it on some dirt.

• Having Trouble with Creative Zen Touch 20G

Hey everybody. I bought me a 20G Creative Zen Touch (you know, the one where the scroll thing is in the middle of the player, vertically?). Anyway, i bought it a couple of weeks ago and it's pretty **bleep** cool. No problems with it.....until today. I was watering the lawn, listening to my music (no, it didn't get wet), when all of a sudden it stopped working all together. Well, at first i saw some "Voice Recording" thing i had never seen before and no matter what i pushed, nothing happened. I couldn't even turn it off. I tapped it on the side, then it began working again. I decided to shut it off and put it in my room. Later when i went back to it,it wouldn't turn back on at all!!! Even though it's battery was charged, i decided to plug it into the charger where, once i plugged it in, i got a screen that said:
<EM>"CREATIVE ZEN</EM>
<EM>Copyright (c) 2004</EM>
<EM>Creative Technology Ltd.</EM>
<EM>All Rights Reserved"</EM>
And thats how it is currently: Nothing at all happens when it's disconnected from the charger and i try to turn it on. When connected to the charger, i get said screen, but thats it. No music, not even the blue backlight or the blue blinking light on the power button indicating that it's charging. :smileyindifferent:
Can someone tell me what's going on/how to fix this? We have been getting unbelievably hot weather here in So. Cal and i have the feeling that the hot temperature may have something to do with this. I've tried keeping the player in the coolest place in the house (besides the freezer) which would be near a fan so it could be in a cooler place, but even leaving it in such place for a couple hours isn't helping me.

Hey buddy
same problem with me. The zen got little moist due to rain, after that it froze at the 'Creative screen' that too comes on when i connect it to charger. I disconnected the battery, it worked for a while but it is back to same position now. It dosent responds to resetting pin... nothing happens it is dead. Only when i disconnect battey and connect charger ... give it a big whack it works for a while then hangs again.
Still trying my stuff on it. Otherwise i will format it and reload the firmware later on.
if u get any solution let me know on [email protected]][email protected]
thankx

• Zen Touch no longer uses fold

At some point after an update (not sure if it was firmware or an update to MediaSource as I have applied both in the last 2 months) my 20GB Zen Touch stopped storing music in logical artist/album folders. Instead it stores all music files in the root folder of the player.
I realise the player does not need folders to operate correctly, and that it organises the files by their ID3 tags, BUT...
It has a 20 Gigabyte storage capacity, and so if ALL the files go into a single root folder my poor PC struggles and hangs as it tries to list the files whenever I open up MediaSource. There are way too many files in a single folder for it to run smoothly.
It makes MediaSource almost unusable. Why has this been done, and how do I fix it's

Can you see any files on your Zen Touch using Windows Explorer? I have the latest driver installed on mine (with Windows XP), and all my music is still under "artist" folders under the "Media" folder. I don't use Mediasource. I always found it WAY too slow and clunky to use. I am using WMP now, which seems to work much better than MediaSource to synch music (and now creates playlists). As you know, WMP uses tags like the Zen itself, so you don't see or don't use folder structure. The only downside I've found to totally replacing MediaSource with WMIP is that I can't edit tags on the player itself without Mediasource. So, I just delete them, edit on PC and copy them back.

• How to get Zen Touch to work on Windows Vista without PFS (worked!)

CHow to get Zen Touch to work on Windows Vista without PFS (worked!)? ***THIS WORKED***
For all of you that want to get their music out of the Zen touch, and are stuck with Vista and .0.03 firmware (non vista recognisable), and don't want to erase everything by installing the latest firmware, here is what worked for me:
)Uninstall every piece of Touch software you got and reboot.
2) Download the latest drivers from Creative: JB3MV2...exe, together with the latest Nomad explorer, and the latest Notmad explorer from Red Chair (a trial is enough, version 9.0.3 currently).
3) Right click the driver, properties, go to compatibility mode, and select Windows XP SP2. Make sure your Zen is unplugged (worked for me that way). Right click the driver installer again and Run as Administrator. It hanged around 72% for me, no biggy, open your task manager and shut the installer off.
4)Before rebooting, install Notmad explorer.(I installed only the Zen touch part of it. I tried to run it right away but got a 'cannot find explorer.exe error - again, no biggy).
5) Reboot, plug in your Zen. Again for me, Notmad didn't work. This is what worked: Without messing up anything, install Nomad Explorer by Creative on top of it all, and reboot again.
6) After reboot, with your Zen still plugged in, right click the little Notmad icon on the right part of the taskbar and select 'Connect Jukebox Zen'. And voila, check your explorer, it should hopefully recognise the Zen Touch like windows xp would.
If you still run into trouble, just install stuff from the beggining, making sure Compatibility: WinXP SP2 and Run as Admin are used everywhere, and keep rebooting till it hopefully works.
Best of luck. edit: Using Winamp to transfer files worked as well.

• Zen Touch Still CANNOT read chin

I have bought my zen touch since last dec. Till now after trying all means, my zen touch still can't read chinese. I have followed the steps to change the language setting to chinese-prc for non-unicode programs. However, my computer started to hang after i changed the setting. I can't even launch the mediasource orgnaniser to test whether the chinese characters are displaying correctly. I have no choice but to use the system restore to restore my windows xp to an earlier date.
I have also used other players like the latest musicmatch and media player to test. The songs read correctly on the players but once I upload to zen, it turned out to be ? again.
Can the creative administrator pls advise me on that? Most of my songs are labelled in xhinese, and with this problem, i really regretted buying zen as i never expect it to have such problem.
thanks

candice,
You will have to change the language setting to Chinese PRC in control panel. If you encounter problem after changing those as mention by you. Then there's something wrong with the OS already. Perhaps you can try creating another user account in the OS and then try changing the language in the other account. See if you still have problem after changing those language. If there are no problem, then install the player driver/application in that account.

• Steps to Installing Zen Touch w/ Play For Sure Firmware on Windows

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm personally very frustrated with my Zen Touch at the moment. I've updated to the Play For Sure firmware successfully, and when I plug it into my Desktop it's registered as a portable media player, and it shows the name of my Zen Touch. However, what's next? I've downloaded 3 apps from Creative - Media Source 5, Software Suit for PFS-enabled device, and PFS plugin for Media Source 5 - which one do I install first?
I assumed it to be Creative Media Source Organizer 5 and went ahead to install that one first, but the installation hangs at the part where it says: detecting installed products.
Anyway, I just hope someone can post a detailed step-by-step guide to fully enabling my Zen Touch on Windows XP. Thanks!

• Zen Touch, WinXP detecting as

I reformatted my computer today, so I have a totally fresh (and up to date) install of windows XP. I *did* have? WMP installed, but that was causing Windows to recognise my Zen as a MTP device or something, which didn't work. So I used the tutorial that's stickied at the top of this forum to remove WMP and that driver feature pack or whatever it was. So this is my situation at the moment;?When I plug my Zen Touch into my computer though, it says it's detected a "Creative Zen Touch" and that it should be working fine. So, I start up NOMAD explorer and it tells me my Zen isn't connected, so I unplug/replug it and same again. Windows detects it as a "Creative Zen Touch" and NOMAD won't see it. So I try going to My Computer and that crashes out. The whole window goes blank at that little torch animation plays, the one where a torch rolls backwards and forwards. Needless to say, no matter how long you leave it, that animation keeps going. Trying to close the window only brings up a window saying it's not responding, end now etc.
So I figured it's just something wrong with the drivers that windows found right? So I download the latest and greatest from the Creative site, install them. Same issue.
General info that might be useful;Zen Touch 20GB with latest firmwareWin XP SP2 (without WMP at the moment) - detects Zen as a Creative Zen Touch, but does nothing elseWin XP SP2 (with WMP) - detects Zen as a MTP and doesn't do anything with it (tells me my hardware might not work properly [well duh?!])AMD Athlon?64bit 3700+ (I do have regular 32bit windows though)2GB Dual Channel RAM?Edit: Tried plugging it into another USB port, now it's recognising it as a MTP device again, still don't have WMP installed though.Message Edited by phil88 on 02-3-200707:50 PM

Here's an update on the latest situation;?When I plug in the Zen, windows says it's found a MTP media player and asks if?I want to sync or do nothing. When I choose sync (with WMP0), it opens up WMP to the sync screen and hangs for a while. Eventually (0 minutes ish) it'll chuck up an error saying "WMP does not detect a portable device. Connect your portable device and try again."?When I try to open up My Computer, it does that thing where the window blanks out and there is a little torch icon rolling around. When I try to go to Portable Media Devices in Control Panel, it does the same thing as My Computer, blanks out with a torch.

• Zen Touch 40Gig Freez

Hi! I just got a Zen Touch for Christmas. I put about 200 songs on it that day through WMP and by dragging and dropping songs into the harddri've folder. Before putting songs onto it, I tried to update the firmware but it said no device was detected. The Touch says that it's 2.0.05.
Out of the 5 times I've tried using it over the past two days, it has frozen 0 times. I have to reset it within 5 minutes almost every time I turn it on.
Any ideas? I bought it from a guy who had no problems with it and when he sent it to me, he said it was in perfect working order. He said that it's never frozen on him.
Would any of the firmware fix the problem? I've started going through my tracks and any time it freezes on a song, I delete that song. That seems to help because it doesnt seem to hang on 75% of the songs.
Any advice would be very appreciated! Thanks!
-Kelly

Hi! As you suggested, I updated to the newest firmware: 2..0. For awhile it seemed to play perfectly. You said that the songs could be "faulty"... that seems like it could be the case because only some songs consistently cause it to freeze. These songs play perfectly in Windows Media Player, however. Is there any rhyme or reason to why some songs just won't play on my Zen when they were all ripped from my CDs and synched the same way? Should I only synch a few songs at a time?
Sometimes this is what happens instead of outright freezing: If i play song A it is fine but when i play song B occasionally bits of song A cut in and out. Would this be a hardware issue? Again, it is only about 3% of the songs.
Thanks SO much! Everyone says that the Zen Touch is the best MP3 player! I really want to see that become a reality for me!
Thanks!

• Zen Touch sync problem with Windows Media Player

Please can someone tell me how to get my zen touch to sync with WMP it worked fine until i was advised to install an update to it and it has stopped recognising it! I'm using windows Xp home and have the latest "plays for sure" firmware on the player, Also another problem i cannot install the creative mediasource software to the pc as its wants the player connected and it doesn't recognise the player either!!! the player is recognised in the device manager though can anyone help me please thanks in advance.

I am having a similar problem. I've upgraded firmware(2..0), mediasource(5.0.38), drivers(plays for sure), and Media player(), in that order. After each update, I checked how things worked. That's how I discovered I needed the next. With WMP 0, things were working fine, but I wanted WMP back on my computer. Since then, in CMS5 it takes about 7 minutes to load the player, at least 0 minutes (or sometimes not at all) to edit anything (tag info or playlist) and WMP hangs completely. I've seen that other people have gotten this combination to work with their Zen touch players. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Any ideas on how to fix this?

• Zen touch ha

I bought the zen touch about a month ago but it hangs very often and i have to poke a pin by the side to "reboot" it. it is really frustrating. I am beginning to lose faith in creative products as it is my first purchase of creative products.
further, how do i get the songs in alphabetical order in zen touch and on my PC.. when i view all the songs, it does not automatically shows the songs in alphabetical order.
Can someone assist.
Satwant

I experience the same hanging with the latest firmware version. I do not have a backup of the old firmware which really is a pity because that one didn't seem to hang at all. I hope this will soonly being fixed by creative.
For your alphabetical listing problem I think I know the problem. I noticed that the first file were in alphabetical order but at the end of the listing the alphabet appeared to repeat. The files at the bottom had a higher track number. Changing the track number to 0 fixed the problem. Maybe you have the same problem.

• Zen Touch Free

Hello,
For some reason my Zen Touch will stop working on me and just freeze on the "Now Playing" screen. The MP3 Player recognizes that I am pressing buttons (meaning I can turn on and using the touch pad turns backlight on) but I can't get songs to play or go to the menu. After this happens it won't let me turn off power and it takes a day or two for functionality to return...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are times where your harddisk suddenly hangs and left you with no choice but to press the reset button. I also suspect its probably due to how each user use their zen micros. So, try to use it moderately aiight? No offence guys...

• Why the hell won't this Zen Touch syn

OK, now it's getting frustrating...
On my girlfriend's laptop, I sync my Zen Touch with no issues. On my computer, I can't get this sh$t to work. Can anyone help?!
Here's my details:
I have a USB. on my compuer. I ran into a bunch of issues when syncing. When I did get the Zen to sync (which happened only sporadically), it would sync for a bit and then crap out. Then, I decided to buy a USB 2.0 PCI card for my computer, thinking that maybe my USB speed (or lack thereof), was making the connection fail. I installed the USB card, and voila, I synced my entire library with no issues, and at a good speed. Then, I ripped a bunch of new disks onto my computer. Now when I try to sync, the old problems are back. Basically, my computer tells me that the Zen is not connected, even though it is. In fact, when I plug my Zen in, a little pop up box appears in the Taskbar (by my system clock) telling me that the Zen is connected. It has a link to "Organize", which means it launches the Creative Organizer program...which tells me I'm not connected. The Zen Explorer doesn't work either.
I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the Zen drivers and programs, as per a customer service rep at Creative, so I have the latest versions of everything. I have the latest firmware for the Zen already installed. I have the latest drivers for my USB, since it's a new card. I've reset the player and performed a disk cleanup. What else is there?! The only other thing is to get Windows XP Sp2 (I have SP installed, and I really don't want to install SP2 right now). Is SP2 required? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hi,
I've been getting the exact same kind of problems with a new Micro, but I have SP2, so I guess that wouldn't solve your problems...
For me, in short, USB syncing only works from Windows Media Player, and sporadically (sometimes, either the device isn't recognized at all, or the micro hangs and I have to remove the battery).
I've removed/reinstalled everything twice, and now things seem to be a bit better (but still far from 00%), but only with WMP. I also disabled USB 2.0, and only use USB . for now. Not sure it has an impact though...
The creative apps (Explorer, etc) never see the player, even if WMP sees it...
I've noticed something:
When I install the Creative Media Explorer app (is that the name?), I get a little "Zen micro explorer" icon in the Windows Explorer tree.
Now, when I connect my Micro to the PC, another little icon appears under the file tree, but I would expect this new icon to appear *under* the Zen Micro Explorer icon in the hierarchy, but it isn't the case; they are both at the root of the tree...
I have the feeling this has something to do with the device not being seen by the Creative ap
ps.
For now, I don't know if this is a device problem (everything works fine on this side), or more probably some config issue on the PC. I'm trying to find another machine to test from.
In the meantime, I'll keep searching. I really like this little gadget, so I wouldn't want to have to return it.
Good luck to both of us!

• Zen Touch - No extras M

One of my daughters has a Zen Touch 20Gb player. She recently acquired a Morphy Richards CD/MP3 etc radio/player. There is a USB connection for connecting an MP3 player. The instructions specify that Creative Zens have to have the Removable disk option enabled for this to work. I see that all of the recent models have this in the Menu/Extras, but there is no such option on the older Zen Touch model. Is there any way round this problem?

http://forums.creative.com/creativel...query.id=37537?These steps got my pc to recognize the player, but when i tried to update the firmware, it just hangs, so I might have to try this again.....
