Zen touch has fro

Hey all,
I hope someone can help.
My zen touch (20gb) player froze whilst turning off, i let it sit but eventually had to reset it to get it to go off, since then i havent been able to turn it back on and it wont charge, the blue charge indicating light doesnt appear and when i plug it in all i get is the creative logo and the copyright info, i've tried the reboot advice on creatives web page, but that desnt work either!!!
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Iain

My zen touch freezes from time to time, done all the usual things without any improvement. But today discovered that it freezes when used near some electrical equipment for example my wife old treadmill which uses an ac motor, its ok with the new treadmill with a dc motor. So it appears that the zen touch suffers from electrical interference, generally this is in the rf range (radio frequency). I hope this helps many users as it was driving me crazy and it appears it's a huge problem with many people.

  • Zen Touch is fro

I bought my Zen Touch in Sept 05, & built up a modest 900 tracks. Two weeks ago I turned it on, it showed 'now playing' but it had frozen. I could not turn it off. Reset turned it off and back on to its frozen state. I could not access Recovery Mode. Creative suggested letting battery run down, connect to charger and at 3rd attempt I was able to access Recovery Mode. Clean Up did not work. The Organiser prog does not recognise the player when I connect it to the PC so I cannot back up my tracks. Using skip or any other button did nothing. Format All and /or Reload Firmware would lose all content.
What a dreadful state of affairs. I know there are 900 tracks in this little box but Creative has no way of accessing them. This must be the worst product I have ever bought. The Zen Touch should come with a health warning to back up everything but I don't suppose Creative want to say how such a disastrous fault might happen.

I sympathise. To be fair, you wouldn't expect there to be a dead end, no-further-help-available scenario, but the bad news is, that's what appears to be on the cards.
The symptoms you describe are pretty similar to what happened to me. Though, through a huge amount of random retrying, I did get it to restart (I have no idea why it suddenly chose to, but after 6 days, it did, so keep trying!), and I was eventually able to back up my 2000 tracks before trying to solve the problem (it was still freezing).
But when I was finally able to access the recovery mode and do a disk clean up, and then try to reload the firmware (I tried to load all the available firmwares, including the PlayForSure Firmware, which DOES wipe the disk clean), the player wouldn't respond. In fact I'm now in a worse situation, cause I now have a non-responsi've and EMPTY mp3 player (see my thread, probably above).
So, no good news on that front as nobody appears to know the right solution (but thanks to all those who have made suggestions) and I am stuck with a ?70, 4 month-old empty dead turkey. A distinct absence of useful advice from anyone at Creative too, you'll notice.
So, it's not just you, and I'm afraid there are a number of us in a similar state of disappointment.
By another Creative product? Dunno. Who's to say this is not a problem that could happen to any MP3 player? All I know is that I would definitely think twice about it next time, especially when considering the aftersales support.

  • How Can I Ensure My Zen Touch Has The PlaysForSure Upgra

I recently sent my 20 gigabyte Zen Touch back to Creative for a Hardware repair. I got it back last Friday "Like New". But I'm not sure it has the PFS upgrade installed. So here's my Stupid Question:
How can I make sure it does?

Click the menu option-choose information, from the information screen, you'll be able to tell what version of the firmware your Touch has installed.

  • Zen Touch has connection probl

    Hello,
I have my Zen Touch for about a month now, great thing, but now I have a irritating problem. Everytime I connect my Zen with the USB cable, and I want to open 'this computer' it doesnt do anything, except for showing the little flashlight
    http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/650/flash7qn.jpg
When I open 'creative mediasource organizer', click on 'import tracks', then 'this computer' wont open also. Can anyone help me because on this way I cant do import songs to my Zen anymore.
    best regards,
    bram

    No bother!
Connect your player up to the power source, as if you were going to charge it. Make sure it is turned off! There's a wee hole on the side of the player, near the 'random' button. Push a paper clip down that and hold the 'play button until the screen wakes up. You should now be in recovery mode. Now scroll down to 'clean up' and there you have it! It doesn't take too long. When you connect it up to the computer next, it should update the library information- just click on my computer when it's back to normal and you *should* be ok...

  • My Zen Touch has suddenly stopped worki

    Hello, newbie alert in progress!
My 20Gb Zen Touch was working fine this morning till I tried reinstalling the drivers that I got from http://www.jumpingcholla.com/jce_nomad_ZEN.htm (I had to do it this way after I lost my original CD ) after I had to reinstall the system recently. I plugged the device back in afterwards but XP seemed to be unsuccessful in detecting it properly.
And now it seems that the thing simply won't turn on, even when disconnected from the computer and with the lock disabled! The light on the power switch remains lit, but holding it down does nothing and I'm not getting anything on the screen. It's as if I'm being permanently locked out of my own player for some reason or other! (And yes, it's fully charged, I charged it up only last night!)
If you need me to post my serial number on here, let me know. But I'm using Windows XP SP2, AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 52Mb RAM, Creative Zen Touch 20Gb, still using the original firmware that came with my unit (seeing as I found no real problems with the device so far), and I tried upgrading the drivers to .30.03 but that didn't make much of a difference.
While I'm here, do you know if there's any way I can apply for a replacement copy of the install CD seeing as it appears to have disappeared with little chance of finding it again?
    Thank you!

Well, resetting the device worked in the end! Whew, thanks for allowing me to not worry lots anymore!
Thing about the install CD though...... I assumed the downloadable .30.03 drivers alone would be all you need post-reinstall, but they didn't seem to help detect the device afterwards, therefore I think they're upgrade-only ones.
Unless of course I'm not looking hard enough and base drivers are available too from this site? Is it like in one of the software packages or something?

  • Zen micro has fro

zen micro has stoped working will not turn on .when you put battery in all that happens is creative copyright screen comes on nothing else happens and it will not go into rescue mode help!!!

    ) Take Out Battery
    2) Hole power switch down (keep holding it to on postition)
    3) insert battery
    4) Let go of power button.
then try disk clean up, formate and finally if worse comes to worse relod os..if non of those work then send it back

  • My zen touch has stopped work

completely, doesnt work, first the screen stopped working and now you cant turn it off and it makes a buzzing noise when the headphones are attached, i've tried resetting to no avail and i cant enter rescue mode as the screen doesnt work, is it gone cimpletely or is there anyway to fix it's

You can try connecting it to the mains adapter and resetting a few times (5-20). If it doesn't revi've after this it's faulty.

  • Mp3 player ZEN TOUCH just fro

    hey guys...im disappointed...
i was so happy that finally the firmware update works...but now i put some music on and plaed some files and deleted some files...now it's frozen!!!! there still a picture on it and yesterday evening when it was already frozen, i put turn the blue lgiht on but now nothing works...
i treid to put a paper clip in the hole but then nothing happens...(i think i can't get through to a button in the hole^^)
    please help ;=)
    p.S.:Firmware 2...0

Is it possible that your battery might be worn out or defecti've? If a fully charged battery only lasts a very short period, there would either be a problem with the player cutting off at the incorrect voltage or the battery itself is not capable of holding much of a charge.

  • My Zen Touch's touchpad is really fro

After almost 8 months of use, the touchpad on my Zen Touch has frozen completely. I've read other posts here by people with this problem. I've tried pressing the top and bottom of the touchpad firmly with my thumbs and reloaded the firmware to no avail.
This is an extremely frustrating problem as the player seems to be working fine in all other respects. Without the touchpad, though, it is completely useless except for listening to songs at random.
I'd appreciate any ideas that might work, even if they might be risky.

It's either a software or hardware failure of some kind. Reloading the firmware pretty much eliminates the software issue, and if the Touchpad hasn't come loose then unfortunately it sounds like it has failed. In this case your only real avenue is to get it replaced by Creative, which is likely to be expensi've.

  • The Creative Zen Touch Movement: Active Creative Us

Who out there wants a skin for their Creative Zen Touch? Who is tired of the monopoly that Vaja cases has and forces you to buy their horrific case for 70 Big Ones? Who is tired of the Creative Case that is included and is extremely bulky and doesnt even have a screen to see what you are doing? Are you not tired of having to take the Zen Touch of the cases everytime you want to do something? Are you tired of users that have Iri'ver and Apple's Ipod having infinite accessory choices while you are limited to 2 case choices? If your answers to these questions were yes, this is the new movement for you. This movement will bombard companies like Iskin and xSkin with emails asking them to provide a Creative Zen touch alternati've for cases that are protecti've, photogenic, and sleek. This method works because Iskin and xskin want to make $$$ and with more emails they know they will make more money. My Ipod counterparts show off their Ipods and protecti've them with the xskin exo3 which is only 0.7mm thick, and cannot defend my creative zen touch because I have a bulky case that makes it 3 times as big. With a skin, my creative will be protected from scratchs, perfect for style points, and i dont have to take it out of a case everytime I want to change anything. This movement worked on the Iri'ver site where they overloaded the system with emails for Iri'ver skin requests, and 3 months later, Iskin rolls out a skin for the Iri'ver. We can do the same. I encourage you to assist me in this movement so we can bring the Creative Zen Touch to the top of all mp3 players trampling the Ipod and Iri'ver alltogether. Now whos with me? actually about the skin thing
if u wanna change the skin of your touch you ll have to brake the warranty patch that is over a screw and with it end your warranty time.
for stuff that sticks over the case its alright
and yes there should be more accessories to this thing
    have fun

  • Zen Touch problem caused by drive

I bought My Touch back in May 2004, because of its great reputation and awsome battery life. and for the most im pleased with it, but i do have one big problem.
When installing the drivers where these are the ones from the Cd or the Newest drivers i always have the same problem. when i plug my player into my computer, my PC recognises it and windoes pops up the little icons etc. but then it makes my computer do something very unusual, when i try and open a program, such as firefox, it will open and it will use my system resources but i can not use the program it like i never clicked the program at all, but it does use my resources.
i know this is caused by drivers because when i dont install the drivers and let realplayer use its own drivers to transfere with the zen its fine.
Its like my zen is a switch, and when i unplug it, all is fine when its pluged in it goi'ves me trouble.
I have windows Xp + SP2, with all updates, My Zen Touch has the newest firmware, and my PC has the newest software drivers.
I would apreciate some help on this, as i have searched through the forums and other sites but cant seem to find anythin like this.

How about running in safe mode, does that make any difference?
The drivers for the player are not loaded in safe mode. Windows only loads essential drivers that enable your computer to run at minimal functionality. Therefore the player will not be dectected by Windows.
To try and find out if the problem is associated with drivers, try using Selecti've Startup from the MSCONFIG utility.

  • ZEN TOUCH or Zen Micro? Which is bett

I'm interested in buying one or the other but am unsure which to purchase. I like the fact that Zen Micro has repeat, resume and random play as well as a stand and belt clip. I also like the fact that it has fm radio and comes in lots of colors. But I love the fact that Zen Touch has a larger storage capacity and is already compatible with WMP 0 without having to hopefully download additional software. Which has a better sound capacity? I have quite a bit of songs with a heavy bass from club songs as well as
hip hop/r &b tracks. Also does either player play songs longer than 4 minutes? I have a couple of songs that are about 9 minutes long. I'm looking for one that is the most user friendly and will not be something I'll have to replace anytime soon because I've run out of space. Does anyone know if the the Zrn Touch will be coming out in various colors like the micro? Any insight into a good choice is greatly appreciated.

Many things are taken into consideration between the touch and micro. Here are some.
    Touch
    - has more hard dri've space
2- Has a dedicated volume button and has a mix of buttons and touchpad(lot of ppl like that)
3- People seem to have a lot of prob with the touch software and touch does not offer EAX options
4- The LCD light could use a fixing.
    Micro
    - Smaller HD than the touch (5 GB)
2- Comes with a lot of features for its price. (FM, MIC, date and planner, removable disc mode, etc)
3- Better looking and is more compact and smaller, fits almost newhere.
4 - Software is better and is more reliable, plus removable battery.
    5 - 0 colors to choose from.
6 - Comes with a few of accesories ( Belt clip, stand, pouch)
Final - I have tried both the touch and micro for 2 months respecti'vely and the micro is better cause of its many features and creative really stepped up and fixed many problems that people were having with the touch so i suggest u go with the ZEN micro
