Zen Touch Headphone Jack issue

I am getting the 20gb Zen touch. Ive been hearing post after post about the headphone jack problem on the Zen Xtra's..Has this problem been fixed FOR SURE on the touch models? Anyone have any problems? Thanks!

I too am getting the Zen Touch now after multiple Micros which suffered from the bad jack disease. It seems, based on the limited number of people responding to this thread, that there are fewer incidents of this plague hitting the Zen Touch. Do you all agree with this premise/conclusion?
If there are others out there with the faulty headphone jack hitting the Touch, again, please let us know.
Also, to all Touch users in this thread, what are your thoughts about it's Have you compared it to the Micro? Is that a fair comparrison? Also, how does the Touch compare to the 20GB 4th Gen iPod?

  • Creative Zen Touch Headphone Jack Prob

I've got a 20GB Zen Touch MP3 Player in which I've had for about almost 5 years now. The player has been excellent and very reliable so far but about a month ago I encountered a small problem with the headphone jack. Now I'm not quite sure if the jack has worn out due to wear and tear and mind you I use it a hell of alot. The problem here that I've got is if I'm listening to music on my headphones and I move the headphone jack itself i.e slightly wiggle it I will totally loose the sound quality and the sound quality sort of gets funny, like its a contact problem with the male jack and the female headphone socket on the Zen itself. Its like a contact problem between the both inside. Apart from that all the other functions work very well and I dont have any problems there. Now I dont know if this is a common problem with the Zen Touch or Creative MP3 player products in general.
Ok now I have been quite dissapointed with Craeti'ves Support here in Australia. They make great products but their support could be improved. Anyhow I li've in Perth, Australia and I rang Creative support in Sydney. They said to me that I had to send in my Zen with a cheque of $300 or so dollars (can't recall the exact figure). The reason for the $300 is that if they could not fix the problem they would use the money for a relacement of a new one plus it would take 6 weeks to repair, wow 6 weeks without my MP3 player would dri've me nuts !
Now I'm 100% sure it is a headphone jack problem like a loose connecton or something like that caused through wear and tear and I'm sure this also happens to Ipods as well.
Now here my other question. They say the require a cheque for $300 for the above reasons I mentioned eg if they cant fix it that money would be put towards a new one. Now lets assume it is the headphonejack problem in which I doubt will cost $300 to fix and they say it was more than that i.e circuit board, chip etc etc (in which it probably wasnt) and use my $300 to that was unneccasarry spent on a new player etc. I mean how can I really trust their honesty. The player might be perfectly fine apart from a small worn out headphone jack socket but their making excuses that this was not working etc.
I li've in Perth, WA and would like to know if anyone here from Australia can reccomend me any really good service agents for Creative MP3 players. I mean really do I need to send it to Creative and get fixed

Wow and yet no one here can help me with my problem !

  • Zen touch headphone jack....just went ka-p

alright so i did some research and it shows coincidentally, that the touch gets headphone jack problems near the beginning of february.....well its feb. 9th, and mine is broken. should i not waste my time, and send it back for refund (i have a 3 year warranty)?
any suggestions, would rather not send it and get a repair ( i hear its useless and takes forever)
    much appreciated,
    frustrated technology user

if the jack is busted, its busted. is your warranty from the store you bought it at? if so, you should be able to take it there for a replacement. otherwise, you will have to contact customer service and get an RMA. i have heard some people had a good experience with Creative support, so i wouldnt be too scared to work with them.

  • Zen Micro Headphone jack, out of warre

    Hi there
I have a zen micro that I got last year from someone, without a receipt. Recently I got the headphone jack problem that everyone has been getting. I emailed customer support about this and they emailed me back saying this:
"Based upon the age of your product, it appears that you are beyond our
complementary email and telephone support period as outlined below.
If it is verified to be a hardware issue, you may contact the Creative
Tutor support line below to check for the replacement cost or to request
    a RMA for your product.
    3. You are welcome to purchase a Creative Tutor session to receive
expert help and advice from a Technical Advisor by phone. Each Creative
Tutor session is only $2.99 and covers any one issue with which you
want assistance and lasts up to 30 minutes. You can purchase a Creative
Tutor session by calling -405-707-8777 Monday-Friday from 9AM to 6PM
    Central Time."
Is this my only option? To spend money to call them withotu really even knowing what can be done about this?
Does Creative not help out people at all unfortunate enough to own a product that seems to have a manufacturing defect (based on the number of posts about this problem)
    Please advise.
    Thank you

i recently got my micro replaced at best buy after it had the headphone jack issue, and my new one is having the same problem. I'm pretty sure best buy gyped me though because they gave me a micro that was sitting out on a table like it was used or something. Since this was within the last 3 months am i able to mail my micro in to creative to get one of the new, hopefully fixed, ones for free? It's soooo frustrating because i love the micro but the stupid head phone jack just makes me want to strangle it.

  • Zen micro headphone jack fix for fr

i read somewhere in the forums that Creative can fix the headphone jack problem for free?
Do you need a warranty for them to do it for you? And are all the songs on the player deleted when they fix it's
I would try and fix my Zen Micro headphone jack myself, but I'm afraid I might do something wrong.

  • Headphone jack issue solved... ma

I am on my second zen micro, and guess what? Headphone jack!<SPAN> I was preparing to return it to my local retailer when the ups guy came with my wired remote that I had ordered when I was on my first micro.<SPAN> I decided to try it out just for the hell of it and headphone jack!<SPAN> But wait a minute, what are the odds that the jack on the remote would be defecti've in exactly the same way as the unit itself? Does Malaysia and its many, many solderers have an irrational hatred of headphone jack circuitry no matter what the device?<SPAN> Turns out (at least in my case) no.<SPAN> This is a headphone issue, folks, not a headphone jack issue.<SPAN> What is counter-intuiti've about this is that we all know what headphones do when they fail:<SPAN> either the left or right earbud goes out intermittently in crackly fashion when the wire just above the plug is disturbed, or sometimes just below the earbud itself?the usual wear points.<SPAN> But this failure is different, is it not?<SPAN> There are no crackles. Instead, one channel (not earbud) will fail.<SPAN> In other words, the left channel, for example, will come through both earbuds, so that if you are listening to a Beatles song, you will hear John, Ringo and George playing away, but not Paul singing.<SPAN> But since Paul comes and goes when you wiggle the base of the headphones back and forth in the jack, the assumption is is that the jack is wiggling loose of its contact points.<SPAN> But what really seems to be happening is that an ill-fitting headphone male is wobbling around in its female jack counterpart.<SPAN> I tried two different headphones and was unable to reproduce this failure, while I heard the problem instantly when I plugged my creative headphones into my home stereo.<SPAN>
This brings me back to creative.<SPAN> If I am right, Creative may have dodged a bullet, or maybe the knew this all along and saw fit not to tell us, as is their way.<SPAN> I did, however, purchase a unit that includes headphones? that don?t work.<SPAN> What if instead of me sending back a second unit, I send you a pair of broken headphones and you send me a pair of non-Creative headphones?<SPAN> Or a coupon for something another pair of headphones?<SPAN> Sounds like a win-win, as they say.

I fail to see how it would be in Creative's interest to not replace a pair of headphones rather than an entire player.Message Edited by SSR on 07-8-2005 02:06 PM

  • Creative Nomad Zen Xtra headphone jack question.

Im pretty sure I'm gonna get this puppy. Either the 40 or 60 gig. I know all about the headphone jack issue and Im going to make sure and get one of those service plans when I buy the unit. I do have a couple questions though which I would appreciate anyone helping me out with....
) the new reinforced, "fixed" headphone jack units are supposedly shipped in clear, heat sealed packages. what did the old package for the units look like? Where they just card board or something?
    2) if I get the unit and open it up, how can I tell if it has the reinforcement and doesn't need the "heated glue" fix upfront? What exactly does the new reinforcement piece look like?
    3) I have a small hard dri've on my computer. Should I back up my mp3's on an external hard dri've via a usb 2.0 connection or can I just burn like 60 cdrs containing my entire mp3 connection? Will either work with re to transferring them to the unit's
    Thanks in advance
    R

. I think it was a partly clear, partly cardboard box. It wasn't heat sealed though. Also the new one ships with a case that has a cut-out window, so it should be fairly obvious.
    2. It's difficult to tell, but there are posts about it on the forums at Nomadness.net. Again, if it ships in the the heat sealed package I would relax.
    3. Either will work, but obviously CDs are going to be slower to restore to the player. Depends how much money you want to spend on a backup solution. Obviously a hard dri've is the "Rolls Royce" solution, DVD-Rs/CD-Rs less so.

  • Zen Xtra Headphone Jack is JACK

I am yet another victim of the headphone-jack issue. Just found out at the start of my 2 week business trip to New Orleans. **bleep**.
It's over the one year mark - lets see what the e-mail trail turns up...
Has anyone paid for the repairs? If so, how much & who did it's

Headphone jacks also break on ipods.

  • Zen micro headphone jack cheap

I started having intermittant problems with the zen micro headphone jack that has been well described. I found that if I held the headphone plug in a certain position that both channels worked well. I took a standard size staple and placed one prong of the staple in the thin space between the headphone jack and the body of the micro in a location where the headphone jack would be forced into the position where both stereo channels worked. I then broke the prong off by bending the staple back and forth and then pushed the sharp edge down with the end of a ballpoint pen. This made the headphone jack fit very snugly in the position where both channels worked when I plugged the headphone in. It solved the problem completely and is significantly cheaper than the $40.00 creative would want to fix the problem.

You could easily take it out with a pin or using another staple to catch the bottom of it. It really doesn' go in very far. Certainly would take it out if if can't fix the problem before sending it in. Its amazing that the staple diameter is exactly the size needed to keep the microphone jack tight in the case.

  • My ipod touch headphone jack do not work when I plug in any headphones to it.  How do I get to listen on headphones again on my IPod touch?

My ipod touch headphone jack do not work when I plug in any headphones to it.  How do I get to listen on headphones with my IPod touch?

You likely have a problem with the headphone jack.  You jhave to ways to listen to music via headphones:
    - Get the jack fixed.  Here is one place:
DigiExpress.us - The iPad Repair Professionals
However first I wold rule out a software problem by try the following:
    Reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults.
The other way is to use bluetooth headhone if you have a 2G or later iPod.

  • Zen Touch - Headphone Socket - What is the bit next to the 3.5mmjack f

Bought a Zen touch 20gb on saturday, the headphones that I have are 3.5mm Jack socket yet there is a rectangular socket next to it which looks like it is meant for headphones with a remote ? Have looked on the creative accessories section but nothing listed and nothing listed in the user manual?
Can anybody tell me a) What the socket is for
    b) If it is for remote headphones where i can buy them from ?
    Regards

    Peter,
You can normally buy the FM wired remote through our European online store:

It is out of stock at the moment, but the online store may be able to advise you on when they will get more units in.

  • Zen Micro - headphone jack & firmware quest

. my headphone jack is seriously wiggling, producing that static-ky sound that often only comes through one channel. and apparently, many others have the same problem. i am thinking about sending it back to creative for an exchange, but would it be worth it's and how long would that take? in the meanwhile, i have inserted a thin-but-thick-enough slice of plastic so the jack won't jiggle. and it works fine now, but i don't know if i want my micro like this forever.
    2. i want to uninstall the playforsure firmware for wmp0 so that i can just use the original interface, but is the only way to do that (and keep my songs in there) to install ANOTHER download that enables me to use both the original and the upgrade?
    thanx

I recently got a replacement Zen Micro after the headphone jack went on the first one (had to be wiggled to get proper sound...like a contact problem). Anyway, today I got the replacement and it's got a completely different facia on it so I don't if it's a newer revision that may have the headphone jack sorted too. To describe it's got bigger symbols on the touch pad. The back button is now simply an arrow instead of an arrow saying "back" and the menu button features an arrow pointing down instead of at a north-east angle.
I returned mine to Amazon and they had the replacement to me within 5 days. They send it straight away and you don't have to wait for them to recieve the old one first. But then it'll depend where you bought it.
