Zen Touch is stuck in "re-building library" m

<FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#3333cc size=4>I have never had any problems besides this and I have owned my zen touch since Nov. 2004 but I also never updated any firmware or anything and now I can't because it won't power on unless it is plugged into a wall outlet, it doesn't power on by itself or through my computer. It just keeps going to "re-building library". It is not re-building anything because the bar only moves about /8 of the way and just stays right there. I just changed my battery thinking it was that but it is still stuck. I also did a "clean up" and rebooted and it didn't help either. Anyone have this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated because I can't update any firmware if it doesn't power on to get connected to my computer. TIA,

Tia, I also got my MP3 player around the same time as you and have been having similar problems. Mine was trying to rebuild the library for awhile but after a few tries of that it just completley turned off altogether. Now it tells me their is a hardware problem. Anyone have any suggestions as to what to try next?!

• My Zen Touch is stuck in recovery m

Hi?My Zen Touch is stuck in Recovery mode, it's deleted it's firmware and can't seem to load anymore. The PC knows it's connecting, because it opens Media Player 0, but Media Player says it's not connected. Creative's advice was to: - . Uninstall all Creative software & drivers
2. If you have Windows Media Player installed then uninstall both it
and Windows Media Player runtime (will require a reboot for each
process). This is done by going to the Add/Remove programs and
uninstalling (This will put your PC back to WMP0).
3. Re-install the Zen Touch drivers from the Creative website and reboot
4. Plug the Zen Touch in.
5. Make sure you have the firmware update ready, run it but do not click
on the language bit yet, leave the mouse hovering over your language
selection.
6. On the Zen Touch's Rescue Mode, select "Reload OS"?
7. As soon as it flashes up "Reload new firmware now via USB" click the
language button
8. The PC should find it and allow you to re-load the firmware. (This
may take a few attempts)
9. Once complete, click close and restart the PC. Everything should now
be fine.
0. Once you are happy you can re-install WMP and it will work fine.
If the following steps doesn't work, do try the steps on another
computer if possible.

I rather not reformat since I am on vacation and do not have my disk. I do not see the compete drivers and firmware files posted on Creative's site, only updates. Any other ideas short of reformating or do you know where the compete files are located on Creative's site.

• Help- my Zen touch is stuck in recovery m

Can anyone help me?
My zen touch has been playing up for ages when i try to sync music to it- I think the hard dri've has been corrupted from months of being able to 'stop the device' before I remove the USB. The other day it crashed whilst syncing files. I reset it and it was rebuilding the library but once it was finished it just stayed on the rebuilding library screen. I then tried disc clean up which ran till 00% but then similarly stuck on the disc cleanup screen. I decided to try reloading the firmware- mistake. I have erased it, and although the firmware programme *does* recognise the player and starts to run it stops halfway through then says the upgrade has failed. So now I have an MP3 player with no firmware. I've tried to format it but although it says its formatting it doesn't seem to be doing anything and will just sit on the format logo till the battery runs out.
It seems well and trully broken from a software point of view. Is there any way I can completely wipe it and start again? How do I return it to Creative for repair (its well out of warranty).
Thanks for any help!

• ZEN TOUCH 20GB - Stuck in Recovery Mode, during Firmware upgrade. HEL

Ooooh dear.
Me and my Zen Touch are completely stuck. Decided to upgrade the Zen's Software and Firmware and am now in deep trouble. Here are the steps I took.
First I sensibly backed up the 2000 songs on the player to my computer. Then I updated the MediaSource software and restarted the computer. Then I decided to go for the big change and downloaded the new PlayForSure firmware installation and that's where the problem starts - It never completed the installation, which I had to manually stop. I knew as part of puting this new Firmware onto the player, the Zen would be wiped clean, which it has. However, I now cannot get it out of recovery mode and it will not respond to attempts to download the new (or any) Firmware onto it.
What I now get is:
-Plug the Zen in, the computer recognises that there is plug and play equipment attached and makes the appropriate noise.
-The Zen will switch itself on as a response (or I can do it manually), with a normal-looking startup. It then briefly flashes a screen saying "Firmware Problem" before going into recovery mode.
-If I choose Clean Up, it takes a few seconds to clean the now empty disk, and returns to the recovery menu
-If I choose Format All, pretty much the same as Clean Up
-If I choose Reload Firmware, it warns me that the firmware will be erased. And asks if it should reload it via USB. You say 'yes' and it briefly flashes up "Start firmware update now" before returning to the recovery mode menu.
And finally, if I select Reboot, that's exactly what it does; the computer recognises that it's turned off, makes the noise, and recognises when it's turned on again.
Trying to download the Firmware from the computer, however, has turned into a nightmare. I've tried downloading the PlayForSure firmware and old Firmware from the files on my computer (running XP, by the way). And I've also tried prompting the Zen starting up the Media Source software, BUT they all claim that the player is NOT connected! Even though it is! The Zen switches on and Windows makes a sound every time I connect or disconnect it!
So what to do? I'm stuck in this vicious circle and no matter what random tricks I try, I can't get out. The player needs Firmware, but the software on the computer claims the player's not connected.
The player is now more than a year old, so I can't return it, and Creative's less-than-generous telephone support is not an option, so I'm left to any imaginati've and kind-hearted subscribers to this list to offer suggestions.

• Zen Touch 40 Stuck in Recovery Mode During Firmware Upd

I never had any problems whatsoever with this player until I decided to update the firmware. Now it is stuck in recovery mode. I have tried all of the steps listed on the support pages and nothing works. I have tried it on 2 difference computers and the player is not recognized. Of course it is out of warranty and Creative wants to charge just about the equivalent of a brand new player to repair. Does anyone have a solution for this?

I did the same thing, my unit was working perfectly.
I just read that these players have a laptop 2.5 hard dri've installed in the unit. If this is true, the next chance I get, I will take my unit apart (40 gig nomad zen xtra) and see if I can reinstall the firmware directly. It's probably what they do at the repair sho

• Zen touch stuck in recovery mode, anyone who can hel

My creative zen touch is stuck in recovery mode and says there is a firmware problem. Anyone no how i can solve this? or what to do about firmware?

Hi, As you can see from earlier I had the same problem. Caused by trying to upgrade to download the free book from the Times. There is a message and reply on about page 3/4 called "Zen Touch - Firmware". The advice in there pointed to the Devi've Driver in there I enabled my Zen and rebooted PC. I then downloaded 2 upgrade files from NOMAD and it now works. I can't remember the exact sequence of events as it seemed a bit of trial and error but I got there. GOOD LUCK

• Creative Zen touch-stuck on song

My Zen Touch is stuck on a song.Every time I turn it on the same my Zen touch player boots to the same "FROZEN" song & none of the players buttons work. I have used the point of a paper clip trick to reboot the Zen player but it continually returns to the frozen song every time. Can anyone help.

Try getting the player into Rescue Mode, with the procedure listed here:
http://forums.creative.com/creativel...p&message.id=3
If it gets into Rescue Mode, try the Clean Up first, and if that doesn't help try the Format.

• Zen Touch stuck in recovery mo

My zen touch is stuck in recovery mode. I tried to install an update on ot it, and when i disconnected it it just went to recovery mode, and stayed there. I've tried all four options on-screen and nothing works. I've tried downloading firmware as the zen says "firmware problem" but the installer just says "player disconnected", even though it has come up on My COmputer.
This is really irritating me - i thought my Zen was a piece of technology that would be reliable - but i was wrong.
I tried contacting the support, but they take until the apocalypse to get back to me, and when they do, they send me links to updates and downloads that don't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same exact problem with my Zen V. I am going to call them myself and try to get some results. I spent too much money on this thing for them not to replace it.

• Zen Touch porb

So my Zen Touch is stuck in recovery mode. The drivers are installed and when I connect it to my computer all that pops up is the portable device. Well I downloaded the firmware and when I run the program it says "your player is not connected, please connect your player". ????
Well it's connected lol my computer reads that there is a device connected. I also reinstalled the drivers for the Zen manually through My Computer - Manage - Device Manager - Portable Devices - Uninstall, then disconnect and reconnect. Any sugestions? Help? Anything? lol

• Zen touch rebuilding libr

I?m having troubles with my Zen touch, when i turn on my zen touch it starts performing the rebulding library procedure, anybody could tell me why, to solve this problem i perform the clean up procedure and then i update the firmware but it doesn?t solve the problem, please tell me how to solve this problem, bye

Agreed, it isn't normal. This is only triggered when the player thinks the library is corrupt.
If you've run through the "My Zen is not starting properly, or goes into rescue mode, what should I do?" procedure in the FAQ post, you might want to resort to a format. Obviously backup the player first.

• Creative zen touch 40 gb stuck in recovery mode! H

Stuck in recovery mode due to firmware problem. When i plug unit in via usb my pc recognizes it ok but when I try to download firmware says device not recognized! Im using xp. help.

. Creative's 24 hour benchmark is based on playing 28 kbit/s MP3 tracks which are 4 minutes in length, and not touching any controls on the player. The higher the bit-rate of the track, the less the battery will last. The more you do with the player e.g. using the back light, the less the battery will last. Conversely if you use lower bit-rate tracks it will last even longer.
2. The Zen Touch has an internal battery like the iPod. Creative's battery replacement is rumoured to cost around $00 as well, or you can buy one and do-it-yourself. Chances are the battery will last 3 years, and I can't imagine many people keeping the player this long anyway.
3. I doubt anyone could hear any difference. A lot of people tout Creative as having superior sound quality, and how they can "hear the difference between the iPod", and the Signal to Noise ratio seems to be higher than the iPod (although I believe Apple don't publish theirs) but at these levels of SnR you won't be able to hear a difference.
4. The only thing to worry about is having good clean tag data on the files, but it's the same for the iPod. Both players build their Music Library from the tag data.
I would say it's really a case between not going for the obvious choice, getting longer battery life, and a cheaper player, or going for the iPod which does have more features.

• Frozen on re-building library, plus connection problems (Zen Mic

Yes, I read the FAQ :smileytongue: I JUST got my new Zen Micro and started putting songs on it. It started giving me trouble with the connection, but was ok for a little bit. After awhile I couldn't get a connection at all. My computer says there's no problem with the USB connection.
Also, it's stuck on the "re-building library" screen. I did the clean-up and reboot, but it still gets stuck there and I left it on for hours. According the the FAQ, it says ["Next you should try reloading the firmware/OS, but beware if you are having connection problems also with your PC you may end up with a player that has no firmware and cannot be reloaded."] But I'm having a connection problem, so I shouldn't do this?
Ahh...someone help! I just got it and I haven't even been able to use it yet! This was after waiting a week for it to be deli'vered.

Connection problems can be caused by numerous factors unfortunately.
The best test if you're able to do it is check on another PC. To see if the problem is with your player/cable or the PC.
There's a lot more advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

• Creative Zen Touch stuck in Recovery M

Bear with me please since my english is not the best, but I'll try to explain my problem as good as I can.
Both me and my girlfriend have Creative Zen Touch mp3-players, and yesterday we were gonna update the firmware on both of them. We went to the Creative support page download-section and downloaded the latest one. When we were gonan install it it gave us the message that all data would be removed and that was fine with us since we already had plans about removing most of the music and replace it with new tunes. But when we were installing the firware it statrted out just fine but then when it said "Player is being rebooted, please wait..." (or something like that) it just was like that for a long time. After 20 minutes my patience ran out and I unplugged my device and tried with my girldfriends instead. Same thing happened with hers so now both our players are stuck in recovery mode with no firmware what so ever in them. I tried installing the firmware once again on both of them but now it can't the firmware just says my device isn't plugged in even though it is and my computer finds it as soon as I plug it in.
I contacted support and they told me to uninstall everything that has to do with the player and also remove Windows Media Player and all of its components. The reinstall the drivers and restart my computer. Then I should wait until my device told me to updtae the firmware to press the language selection on the firmware update. I did all of this but the firmware upadate still says my player isn't connected. This happens with my girldfriends player too, so it can't be any defect on the device.
So right now we're sitting on two mp3 players that are useless since they are stuck in recovery mode with no firmware. Please help me if you can and please keep in mind to not use too difficult english words. Thanks in advance!
Worth mentioning is that I've tried both the old and new firmware updates just to get it going and no one worked.

Can't believe no ones answered this, check this thread ttp://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?=94247 then look for Rich's post in the thread, check his link for more info.
Basically uninstall wmp, and it's run time and reboot
Be using XP
try to install creatives latest plays for sure software suite (it will fail)
Don't unplug the player just reboot
Player should be found, ignore all messages of any kind
Go to FW update and double click it
Hopefully breathe a happy sigh of relief.

• Zen touch froze, now i'm stuck in recovery m

my zen touch froze, after idle shutdown i turned it back on and it froze again. the next day, i turned it on, and it showed my libary as being empty. i tried to reload some music onto it, but one of two error messages kept coming up; one saying that the player was either busy or not connected, or one saying there was an error and to ensure that the player was properly connected. it was, as i could tell by the "docked" image on the screen of the player. i went into recovery mode and reloaded the firmware, and am now unable to get out of recovery mode. i turned the player off, then on, and nothing. i hooked the player to my computer to see if i could put music on it, and i still got the same error message. how do i get the software to recognize the player, or is it not recognizing it now because im in recovery mode? if so, how do i get OUT of recovery mode? and any idea if this all means my music library is completely gone, or will it be able to be recovered??
ANY help at this point would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

thanks so much for your help!
i ran the firmware update, it got me out of recovery mode and the player itself is working normally, but when i try to add music to it from my computer, it still says "the operation failed. ensure player is properly connected before trying again." The "docked" icon is on the screen of the player, and whenever i try to add music, i can hear the hard dri've clicking away. it clicks a few times like it's trying to do something, then that message pops up on my computer screen. i went into device manager with the player hooked up and it was recognized. i disconnected the player and reconnected it so i could see that it was being recognized when i plugged it back in and it was. i then went back into the mediasource to try and add music again, and still nothing.
