Zen Touch kinda half-recognized by comput

Player: Zen Touch 20GB, w/ 2..0 FW
OS: WinXP SP2 ( I am an admin)
My Touch works absolutely fine on my laptop, btw, so I guess it's the computer. I did a Disc Clean-Up anyway, though nothing changed.
Problem: When I plug in my Touch, the pop-up window offers me the choice to sync with WMP or do nothing. This morning, the option to explore the contents with Windows Explorer was also there, but not anymore. I have done nothing other than turn the computer off, then on again.
The device does not show up in My Computer, as anything.
It does show up in the Device Manager, as a Windows Portable Device, a Creative Zen Touch, which is working properly, and is enabled.
What was REALLY weird was that suddenly it claimed that WMP0 wasn't installed...which it was this morning...and wanted to update to it. So I let it update itself to WMP0 (perhaps this was foolish...) and I applied the 3 hotfixes I applied the first time I got WMP0.
windowsmedia0-kb89536-x86-enu.exe
windowsmedia0-kb902344-x86-intl.exe
WindowsMedia-KB8922-x86-ENU.exe
So I cannot put or get data files to/from the Touch. And I haven't really tried syncing... I tried once, and failed, then gave up since I really want to just use Windows Explorer to navigate the Touch anyway.
So I had a look at the FAQ on this site, and some of the threads, but couldn't solve the problem myself.
What I've tried:
- Uninstalling/reinstalling WMP0
- Plugging the Touch into every USB port (front and back)
- I looked in the registry (but didn't touch) to ensure that the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Enum had Everyone with Full Control under Permissions
- Fully updated Windows via microsoft.com
- Restarted the thread wdfmgr.exe
- Uninstalling the Touch, then unplugging/re-plugging it back in
- Swearing vehementally (out loud, not online...yet)
Well, anyway, if anyone has any ideas to help, or shares this difficulty, please reply.
Oh yeah, and if I'm missing some info, let me know too. Thanks.

    Hi Ted
I deleted the file and reconnected my device and it quickly grew to 600kb. I'm not sure exactly what you need and there didn't seem to be anything interesting at the end of the log, but I did find the following lines which, from what I can, is from the point when WMP tried to establish a connection with the device and failed.

Ive reinstalled itunes on here to get the newest version, ive restarted my touch, reset it and nothing. Any advice?

  • IPod touch 3rd gen recognized by computer but not by iTunes

My iPod touch 3rd gen is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen. It became stuck on the screen while updating to the newest software and is still stuck. It is recognized by my PC as an "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" in recovery mode but is not recognized by iTunes.
I have tried multiple suggestions by the Apple Support pages related to this issue, and even reinstalled all Apple programs on my PC, but iTunes still fails to recognize the iPod.
Is there any other ways I could go about solving this issue? It seems I have tried everything so far..

  • Ipod 4g touch is not recognized by computer and wont turn on or restore

I bought and ipod touch off a friend because he had drained the battery and forgot his passcode. I charged it in my car and he entered the wrong passcode too many times so it said ipod disabled connect to itunes. And then it shut off. I have not been able to turn it on since. I tried connecting it to my computer. My computer won't even recognize it. I tried to restore it. Nothing happened. And then while i t was still plugged in, the apple logo screen flashed on and off for about 5 minutes. After that, nothing. Any ideas? I called apple support and they couldn't help because I don't have the serial number. For some reason it is not on the back of the ipod.

  • Ipod Touch 4 not recognized by computer

A few months ago I got a new laptop and it runs Windows 8. I have connected my IPod and had no problems syncing it before. . . But a few days ago I tried to plug it in and sync it and my laptop is not even recognizing it. It say "USB not recognized" and tells me the device may have malfunctioned. I have tried everything I can find online so far to do. I have even reset it to factory settings, but still it does not recognize it. I have 2 cords and tried them both. It charges when I plug it into the wall charger, so I don't thing it is the charging port. . .I am out of ideas. Can anyone help me?!? Please?!?

What was the error number?  That would be very useful since the following gives actions for various errors.

Try manually placing the iPod in recovery mode to see if that will make the iPod visible in iTunes.  See:

  • Problems w/ Zen Touch. Please He

Okay everybody, i've got a strange problem that is beyond me.
I recently plugged my 40GB Zen Touch into a friend's computer, and for some reason nearly half of the artist folders appeared empty when browsed them through windows explorer. Now when I try to browse the device's music folders on my own computer, I encounter the same problem. I have firmware 2..0_0.00.0 installed on the Zen, and it doesn't seem to make a difference if I look at the device through Windows XP or Vista explorer, nor do the files appear when I open the device with Creative Media Organizer 5. The funny thing is that I know the files are still there, cause there's the same amount of memory left and I can play them on the device just fine. The file folders are also still there, but according to my computer there's nothing inside many of them. I couldn't recognize any pattern to why some files appear and others don't, as I have a mix of ripped Cd's, internet downloads, and music i've taken from other computers. Some files are WMA and others are MP3. I don't know if this makes any difference, but my friend's computer had Itunes on it - is it possible that it some how infiltrated my device and made the tracks w/out copy right privlidges unreadable Or did the file directory somehow get corrupted I'm truly at a loss.
I just got a new computer and would like to backup my music collection on it, but nearly half of it seems to have disappeared into the ether!
    Please help me!

  • Okay...Now That I Have PlaysForSure On My Zen Touch, How Can I Play It On W

Funny thing is, I managed to do it once but I didn't know how I did it. :smileyvery-happy:Now I don't remember. So, again...How Can I Listen To My Zen Touch On Windows Media Player? I'd especially like to do this on my terminal at work. :smileytongue:Thanks.

Okay, so if I hear you correctly, I should download the Zen Touch Media Explorer to my computer at work and use it that way. I followed your advice on my home computer and sure enough, I can hear the music. :smileyvery-happy:
Only I can't seem to see what's playing. And I'm not sure how to control the player (for playback functions, ie shuffle, repeat, rewind, skip, etc.). :smileysurprised:
Any advice on those problems? Thanks.
Sorry for over-reacting, by the way.

  • Zen Touch is recognized, but

Here's the deal: a while ago, my parents gave me a laptop because I just graduated. This laptop has Win Vista. At first, I didn't have my own computer at all, so I used my dad's Win XP computer to transfer music to my Zen Touch. When I got this laptop, I decided to upgrade the firmware of my player, so I could use my own laptop for the music transfer. I backed up all my music (on my dad's computer) and updated the firmware (which worked perfectly - after 3 days of trying). First, I checked if it worked on my Vista laptop, which it did. I synced the player with WMP and transferred one album to the player. This all worked. Then I got back to my dad's computer, with my back-u
    ps.
I downloaded Creative Media Source 5 (I find this much handier then synchronizing with WMP, which also worked on the XP computer) with the plugin for the latest firmware and started to restore the music on my player. It worked fine. Untill I got halfway. The first half was perfectly transferred, but suddenly CMS wasn't responding anymore. I thought that this might be one-time thing, so I rebooted the computer and restarted CMS. CMS recognized the player, so I thought I was right. I continued on where I stopped last time, but again CMS wasn't responding. The first song I want to transfer rushes to 90%, but then the whole program gets stuck. But, this is not a real problem as we still have WMP to sync with the player. However, WMP suddenly wouldn't recognize my player anymore!! At first, WMP did for sure. Then I got to solution number 3. Put all the backed up music from my dad's computer that still hasn't been transferred on an external hd, and copy it to the Vista laptop. Sounds great, although WMP on the laptop also doesn't recognize the Zen anymore. After this, I retried it via CMS for at least a dozen times, but always the same. CMS recognizes the player, but always gets stuck when the song reaches 90%. I even tried to transfer the songs in a different order then before, but whatever I do, it keeps getting stuck. I preformed a disk clean on the player, I reinstalled CMS and the drivers on the computer, but nothing seems to work. The player itself works perfectly. I can listen to the songs that ARE on it, I can reload the battery, everything. Just not transferring, while I could do that before with the new firmware. And this is a shame, as my best albums are in the second half, so not yet on the player Anybody has an idea of how to solve this problem

Try re-booting ur comp lol. The same thing happened 2 mine but i kept disconnecting it and connecting again so it just froze, i had 2 run it down over night =/. Hope that helped =).

OK here the problem, When i plug in my zen touch the computer makes 3 quick "I recognized the device" noises. then nothing shows up anywhere , not in WMP, not in NOMAD explorer, or anywhere. When i Unplug it it makes the Disconnected noise. Help?

I have the exact same problem, this morning my screen froze, I reset the device, after resetting only 265 songs were left out of the original 4,500+ songs. Then I wanted to put the other songs back on, but my computer didn't recognize it

  • Audio sounds like half-speed on Zen Touch, but not on the

I've got TONS of Opie and Anthony that I'm moving from my computer to my Zen Touch. Unfortunately, many of the files sound as if they're playing at half-speed, even though the timer at the bottom is running at the appropriate speed. This only happens when I'm playing them on my Zen Touch; when I listen to the files on my pc, the sound is just fine.
Running firmware .00.06. I've read that there have been issues with new firmware, so I've been wary to update to a newer version.
If anyone can help, you'll make a guy really happy...Message Edited by taunter on 06-20-2005 :34 PM

    Taunter,
Here is a rundown of what MP3 bitrates you will want to have:
    Mono: 24KBPS and higher
    Stereo: 40KBPS and higher
If you try VBR, it may be difficult to figure out exactly where to place the slider, but I would suggest keeping it from the lower sections so that it doesn't drop into the Khz sampling range.
All WMA bitrates should work ok, since they do not sample lower than 22Khz.
