Zen Touch Sensitivity & Carrying Case Is

I have had the pleasure of owning the Zen Touch for a little over two months and I am consistently impressed with the quality of playback. I do, however, have to agree with some reviews and posts that talk of the over sensitivity of the touch pad. I am quite familiar with the different points that control the speed of the scrolls, etc., but there is no question that this touch pad is way too sensiti've, no matter what the setting. My question is, can't this be corrected by a firmware download, and if it can, will it be forthcoming? My second issue is with the carrying case which is totally non-user friendly. When you look at other MP3 players (i.e. Dell Jukebox, Ipod, etc.), the manufacturers have made allowances for the controls to be accessed while the player is still in it's case, whereas Creative has not done that. I have contacted Creative twice on this matter and was first told there was going to be a new case available for the Zen Touch. When I followed up with a second call three weeks later, I was told there is no such item on the drawing boards. Anyone have a clue about the carrying case? Thanks. Happy Holidays to all.

Thanks for your response. I am really being patient with the sensitivity issue and whenever I think I have it mastered; bang, the screens just have a mind of their own. I would think that Creative would address this issue at some point, since a lot of reviewers have mentioned this "drawback." I can li've with it. I agree with you about the case being bulky. In addition to not having access to the controls or being able to see the screen, I have found that the case does not really stay on the belt securely. I have found that for piece of mind, I will rest it on something or clip it on the back of the airplane seat in front of me. I did treat myself to a pair of the new Bose noise suppressing headphones. Can't hear the engines on the plane and the Zen Touch plays music as if you were in the front row of a music hall. Outstanding!!!!

  • Zen Touch Sensitivity Out of Cont

<EM>I</EM> have seen many, many posts that talk about the over-sensitivity of the Zen Touch. My unit is at the point where when I attempt to put together playlists "on the go", the screen, at whatever point it feels like, accelerates to warp speed and goes to one of the "play" categories thus wiping out the choices in the "Selected" list. I have tried ALL sensitivity settings and I am not rushing the process. There must be a download that Creative can come up with to lessen the sensitivity of the Zen Touch. Sticking their head in the sand is certainly not going to make it go away. To say that this issue has me frustrated is a vast understatement.

I had the same problem with my touch initially, and it almost made me take it back. Believe me, this is my third Creative Player, so taking it back would have made me sadder than I should admit.
I had some luck with the reset idea I found here at the forums.
Also, I believe that if your fingers are too dry the touch pad becomes very unresponsi've. If I do not have access to some hand lotion, I just give my finger a lick - as if I were seperating paper - and it is better.
It seems to me too that too much lotion does bad thing to the pad as well, but a quick wipe with a damp cloth does wonders.
I find that resetting my player each morning keeps this problem away.
    YMMV

  • Is The Zen Touch Sensitive To Moti

I notice that everytime I use the Zen Touch in my car, or when I'm walking the player either locks up, randomly selects tracks, or just don't act right. But when I have it placed in one place, it plays just fine. Is this common with the Zen Touch? If so, is there anything that can be done about it's Thanks.

I only have the lock button engaged when I'm in my car, or walking with the player, while I'm playing audio tracks. I use the pause/play button a lot also. That's when the problem begins.

Who out there wants a skin for their Creative Zen Touch? Who is tired of the monopoly that Vaja cases has and forces you to buy their horrific case for 70 Big Ones? Who is tired of the Creative Case that is included and is extremely bulky and doesnt even have a screen to see what you are doing? Are you not tired of having to take the Zen Touch of the cases everytime you want to do something? Are you tired of users that have Iri'ver and Apple's Ipod having infinite accessory choices while you are limited to 2 case choices? If your answers to these questions were yes, this is the new movement for you. This movement will bombard companies like Iskin and xSkin with emails asking them to provide a Creative Zen touch alternati've for cases that are protecti've, photogenic, and sleek. This method works because Iskin and xskin want to make $$$ and with more emails they know they will make more money. My Ipod counterparts show off their Ipods and protecti've them with the xskin exo3 which is only 0.7mm thick, and cannot defend my creative zen touch because I have a bulky case that makes it 3 times as big. With a skin, my creative will be protected from scratchs, perfect for style points, and i dont have to take it out of a case everytime I want to change anything. This movement worked on the Iri'ver site where they overloaded the system with emails for Iri'ver skin requests, and 3 months later, Iskin rolls out a skin for the Iri'ver. We can do the same. • Creative zen touch car accessor

hello, ipod has this?adapter where you can plug?it into the cigarette lighter and it plays the ipod over the radio and the speakers in your car,i was wondering is there any item like that for my creative zen touch?

A case is coming from Creative.
I don't remember hearing anything about a dock yet.
The video cable was being discussed on another thread, and it wasn't clear whether 3rd party cables work or not.
There's no need to buy a travel adapter. Just buy a plug adapter for the current adapter.
Screen protectors for the iPod apparently fit pretty well. They might need some trimming, or you can just buy another oversized screen protector e.g. for a PDA, and cut to size.
There have been MANY headphone recommendation threads, like this one. Try searching back. I personally recommend Sony's EX5/7 canalphones, as well as the Sharp HP-MD33S canalphones (Creative have rebadged these and sell that as the EP-630s). They might be a little above your budget, but are both great canalphones.

  • Touch-sensitive buttons of Zen Mi

i am intrested in buying this item, however i don't have the chance to "feel before i buy"..
so i have concerns about touch-sensiti've buttons of the unit. do they get triggered by accident while the player is in the pocket ? how useful and comfortable are they in reality ? do unwanted/unexpected 'keypresses' occur while the unit is in a hand, or in a pocket or carrying bag ?
    thanks

In using my Zen Micro for the past 3 weeks, I'd say you have to 00% of the time put it on hold when you are not using it. I mean EVERY time you put it in your pocket, bag, or out of use, you have to put it on HOLD. Maybe once it's in your pocket the buttons won't activate, but it's nearly impossible to reach into your pocket or even put it into your pocket without "touching" a button.
When you use the carry case, it is even more annoying because the casing makes it harder to access the hold button. However, when it's in the case clipped to my belt, I don't use hold then.
Put it this way, when you WANT to use the touch buttons, they are cool. When you don't want to, they are extremely annoying. I'd say, make only the center strip like on the Zen Touch touch sensiti've, make the other buttons click, no need for them to be all touch buttons. Nice gimmick, but not practical at all. Plus, 50% of the time the "back" button doesn't work on the st or even 2nd "touch."
Otherwise, I've been happy with it. Great sound quality and I li've the ZERO lag time from powering on to hearing music. Very nice.

  • Zen Touch Car Adapter??? carrying ca

Does anyone know if there is a car kit available for the Zen Touch as well as a better carrying case?

There is a silicone sleeve made by Exspect that was intended for the 20GB but because of its stretchability and looseness, it fits the 40GB quite will (may be even better). In the UK you can find it at amazon.co.uk. In the US, you can pre-order from here: http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=2264.

  • Creative Zen Touch - Sounds from inside case and firmwear not reload

    the story:
I was sitting in my room when suddenly in the middle of a song, the music stoped, i go over to check. Nothing works, so i get a paperclip and reset it. After reset, it stays on Creative logo for 5 mins. While inside the case a sound like a motor going on, off and then a static kind of noise. I restart a third time and i get recovery screen. I do cleanup. then reboot. Then format, reboot, then firmwear deletion, reboot.
I head on over to the website and read FAQ's and such. I attempt to put the newly downloaded firmwear onto my Zen Touch. I click the file, it starts the instalation process and then says "An application is interfering with the flash program (e.g Creative file Manager)....." I would like to add, i've tried rebooting my computer, and i've turned off every single thing except for the instalation browser.
    What should i do?
Message Edited by chris23 on 08-5-2006 06:49 AM

I think your hard dri've has crashed. If the player itself is making a loud noise like that it's most likely the hard dri've. I'm not sure if reloading the firmware would solve this problem.

  • Zen Touch Krusell Case [Imag

I just received the Zen Touch Krusell Case today, and must say that I finally have a true case for my MP3 Player.
Anyways you can find the detail and product pictures on Krusell's website: www.krusell.se
However I took some of my owm pictures to clarify the cases design.

As you can see the front leather case is very sleek and does a good job of protection.

  • Zen Touch (the device itself) case f

    hi
i've got a problem with my zen touch case. I've never dropped it or done somthing wore to it. I really handle it like a raw egg. But now the plastic broke a little bit. as you can see on this pics . Obviously it broke at the same place on both sides. This is the reason why I think this is a material-flaw based problem. Do you think this is enough to RMA it (The Thouch is only 4 month old)? The device itself has no scratches. I realy think that the material of a 200? device should be free of such flaws.

  • Carrying case for a ZEN XTRA 30

I was wondering if anyone knew of a carrying case for a zen xtra that you can run with. I have an old CD player carrier that doesnt work too well, as it allows the player to bounce around and actually stop playing. I went to circuit city and I couldn't find anything.
Just curious if anyone has seen any different carrying cases for the ZEN XTRA.
    Garrett

One user test I performed with my Zen Xtra was a 5km jog. I had serious doubts about the belt clip but decided to give it a try. 5kms later my Xtra was still firmly clipped to my belt. There had been no skipping or disk troubles with the player during the jog. The problem came when I got into my car 5 minutes after the jog. SNAP! No more belt clip.
Later, I found a small, inexpensi've leather pouch for electronic gadgetry, and discovered it had a leather-clad STEEL belt clip on a pivoting ri'vet mount. At home I cut the clip loose from the pouch, trimmed the leather to fit the back of the Xtra case, removed the single ri'vet on the back of the Xtra case as well as the leather boss that holds the plastic clip in place, and sewed the new clip into position. The new clip is far stronger and holds far more tightly than the original clip ever could. My first user test confirmed that the HDD in the Xtra is rugged enough to stand jogging; the new clip holds the player even more tightly to the wearer's body, and also allows the player to sit horizontally on the wearer's hip, which protects the clip from trauma caused by frequent bending or leg movement. To make a long story short, I use the provided case, modified, and find it sufficient for regular high-impact exercise motions.
Were I to look at this problem more seriously, I would suggest two things: First, the protection of the player demands that it be firmly strapped to the wearer's body; Secondly, the chief cause of trauma to the player is coming from the feet, so, the further from the feet the better. I believe the optimal position is the upper back, so IDEALLY you are looking at a pouch or bag that straps firmly, immobilizing the player, against the upper back of the wearer. If such a pack exists, it would be a specialist jogger/runner/triathlete bit of goods, and thus specialist stores of this nature would be the best places to look.
I have a second piece of improvised equipment which might do the trick. I use an old-issue USArmy Pistol Belt with an old-issue Small Arms Ammo Pouch. The ammo pouch holds the player in its case quite snugly, and the pistol belt can be worn against the skin (it's cotton!). The pouch can be located at any point on the belt, including the rear, thus leaving no obstacles in the path of swinging arms. You will find this equipment at any army-surplus retailer.

  • Zen Touch Case Scr

Does anyone out there have a non-functioning Zen Touch that could be cannibalized for parts? If so, I'd be interested in obtaining the small black screws that hold the metal case closed. There are two screws on the bottom of the unit and two on the back. Thanks,?Sube

  • Zen Touch Carrying C

I love my Zen Touch, but one thing that really bugs me is the included case. Don't get me wrong. I think the case is pretty well made, but whose idea was it to cover the dang display and all of the buttons. This essentially makes it only good for transporting the Zen. I don't know about you, but I want a case that I can actually leave on for full time proctection. Once you take it out of the case, you're left with a slippery little player with absolutely no protection. Problem is, you "have" to take it out of the case to work the controls. Makes no sense to me.
Vaja (vajacases.com) has the right idea. They sell a beautiful leather case for the Zen Touch, complete with cut outs for all of the controls. But I don't exactly want to spend $60.00 and wait four weeks for a case. Besides, they only have one for the 20GB Zen. I have the 40GB version. I've done a lot of searching. As far as I know, no other company makes a case for the Zen Touch.
So now I'm left with this stupid case I have to keep removing everytime I want to play my Zen. Real smart Creative. If you had to give us this lousy case, you could at least sell a better one as an optional accessory.Message Edited by sube586 on 02-05-2005 06:57 AM

    Yes,
The case for the Zen Touch isn't all that great as far as the aspect of use on the go. However, it better than nothing and does serve it's purpose. I guess it would have cost the company more to manufacture cases that were specially cut out for the Zen Touch. I am hoping that there will be some third-party cases made for the Zen Touch, but until then I guess you have to be happy with what you get.
I am not sure if I am correct, but don't the 40GB and 20Gb Zen Touch have aproximatly the same dimensions?

  • Zen Touch is dead, Zen Vision:

I threw my bag on the ground in an angry rage (not Zen related, not very Zen at all in fact). Unfortunately my Zen Touch was in it at the time, and now is sadly dead and headed for the recycling plant ('hard disk problem' screen, click of death, won't reboot etc.) I thought the Zen Touch was a great player a bit let down by firmware / accessory support. I see that Creative are improving these things for the Zen Vision:M so I thought I might upgrade to that. Therefore I have a few questions about this player:
) Does it have a removable battery or not?
    2) What are some good cases for this player? (the Creative one looks nice)
    3) Is the Audible firmware update going to come back, and what were the problems with it's Is type 2 Audible track good enough quality?
    4) Is there anywhere to download legal music/ movie videos in the UK, and is the video feature really as good as it is cracked up to be?
    5) Does the black Zen Vision: M scratch too easily?
    6) Can you switch from music to radio with the separate wired remote?
    7) Should I wait for Creative to make a player with a DAB digital radio (I like radio) or will this never happen?
R I P my poor Zen Touch, I am sorry I destroyed you. Message Edited by joshua32 on 06-07-2006 04:52 PM

. NO removable battery, sorry. But it has a amazing battery life.
    2. The one comes with the device is ideal for carrying, but you can't, of course, use the device inside it. I remember I saw some cases for it.
    3. I don't know, I'm currently using that firmware (you are talking about .40 firmware with Audible support, which was removed after a few days, right), and have some problems with the sound. As soon as I upgraded, I started hearing some sort of clicky noise in the background, my files are mp3.
    4. Don't know about download, but video quality is superior, just as the screen. (supports WMV v3, DivX, MPEG, screen res: 320x240, 800kbps max. for video)
    5. Yeah A bad side of the device. The screen gets very easily scratched, more than the device itself (I have a black one), but fortunately, they don't create a problem as the screen is really bright (you can set it also, the brightness, there are 0 levels)
    6. I dunno, don't have the remote.
    7. I don't know anything about DAB, sorry. But I don't expect (personally) anything with better radio capabilities soon.
r.i.p. btw the case is also a really good protector from crashes for ZVM.
    Bottom line:
I've bought mine in March , and using it frequently, every day.
Definitaly recommend it. Feel free to ask more about ZVM if you have any questions.
