Zen Touch & Stopping Track midway thro

Hi,
I've just bought the Zen Touch, very pleased with it so far, but is it possible to stop a track midway through rather than pause, or is it a case o just switching off the unit.

There would be no difference between pause and play, as the device doesn't work the same way as a tape player would. You can pause a track and then turn off the player, that's absolutely fine.

Slider on 20GB Zen Touch stopped working

(Slider on 20GB Zen Touch stopped workinge I love my Zen so much, and the slider (touch pad) on my Zen Touch just stopped working. Last month, there was a couple of times where it stopped working, and it was fixed by turning it off and back on. That didn't fix it this time. I've been trying to get it to work for several hours now, and it just won't do anything.
What can cause this, and is there anything I can do to fix this? I thought maybe a firmware upgrade would reset something, allowing it to work since I had an old version of the firmware anyway. The firmware upgrade was successful, but the slider still doesn't work.
The slider is the one button on the Zen Touch that you absolutely need. I literally can't do anything since there is no other button you can use to go up or down in a menu. I can't browse my music, I can't play music, I can't change settings - all I can do is turn it on and stare at it. Now it is as useful as a weak flashlight - thanks to the backlight.
I love my Zen Touch so bad It is the best MP3 player I've ever owned, and it would really kill me if I can't get it to work.

reset the ipod, hold both the power and lock buttons for 10 seconds after the 10 seconds stop holding the buttons. IF this didn't work restore your ipo. 10 POINTS please.

Zen touch stopped work

it just quit working and went into recovery mode. when i try to do anything, it just says there's a hard disk problem, and doesn't work. i would call tech support but i don't have a warranty. is there anything i can do to just format it and start over without selecting the reformat option in recovery mode? or am i screwed now.

hope this isnt too late, but i had exactly the same problem. my zen touch always booted to the recovery menu and when i selected any of the options, it gave the 'hard disk error' msg. mine was also out of warranty. then i read in some other forum that you shuold turn it on and simultaneously whack the right hand side of the player on a carpeted floor, quite hard, 2 or 3 times. having nothing to lose, i tried it and, while it probably offends the purists, it worked.

The stop button is a carry over from the days of cassettes and is not needed on a digital audio player. If you want to stop the track, simply hit the play/pause button.

Zen Touch - View track details info -missing bit rat

The manual (Page 3-3) shows a screen shot of the View details and the last line indicates the bitrate and sampling rate. However, on my Zen, this does not display and I cannot find anyway to display it. It this a bug or oversight?

That's not a bug nor an oversight... I believe, at least with the two Creative players I have had (the Xtra 40GB and the Sleek 20GB) you can only view the codec and bitrate of the currently-playing song.

Creative zen touch chronic problem

This problem has been bugging me ever since I first receive creative zen touch 20 gb, and make me change to another brand, and leave this unit in the warehouse The problem is the back button and the next track button has been annoyingly randomizing all tracks, so I GET tracks randomized almost all the time Upgrading firmware doesn't fix it, creative lousy customer support in my country even make me more nausous I bought it in 2004 and since then, I never wanna buy another creative product Recently someone mention how to fix this button problem, but the link he provided is dead, can someone enlight me ?

Zen Touch No Longer Recognized By Windows Media Pla

My Zen Touch stopping being recognized by Windows Media Player today. I still see the MTP connected icon in the task tray and I still it listed without a warning in Device Manager, but WMP doesn?t recognized that it is attached. I?ve tried different USB ports and a different USB cable. There are no errors in the application log. I reformatting my device and run the cleanup option, but I still can't WMP to see the device. The only changes I can think of is installing IE7 Beta 2 and installing MusicMatch. I?ve since uninstalled MusicMatch, but I still have the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or there a way I can increase the logging so I can get a better idea of what might be failing.

I deleted the file and reconnected my device and it quickly grew to 600kb. I'm not sure exactly what you need and there didn't seem to be anything interesting at the end of the log, but I did find the following lines which, from what I can, is from the point when WMP tried to establish a connection with the device and failed.

Zen Touch no longer uses fold

At some point after an update (not sure if it was firmware or an update to MediaSource as I have applied both in the last 2 months) my 20GB Zen Touch stopped storing music in logical artist/album folders. Instead it stores all music files in the root folder of the player.
I realise the player does not need folders to operate correctly, and that it organises the files by their ID3 tags, BUT...
It has a 20 Gigabyte storage capacity, and so if ALL the files go into a single root folder my poor PC struggles and hangs as it tries to list the files whenever I open up MediaSource. There are way too many files in a single folder for it to run smoothly.
It makes MediaSource almost unusable. Why has this been done, and how do I fix it's

Can you see any files on your Zen Touch using Windows Explorer? I have the latest driver installed on mine (with Windows XP), and all my music is still under "artist" folders under the "Media" folder. I don't use Mediasource. I always found it WAY too slow and clunky to use. I am using WMP now, which seems to work much better than MediaSource to synch music (and now creates playlists). As you know, WMP uses tags like the Zen itself, so you don't see or don't use folder structure. The only downside I've found to totally replacing MediaSource with WMIP is that I can't edit tags on the player itself without Mediasource. So, I just delete them, edit on PC and copy them back.

Zen Touch classical music tracks and upgrading firmwa

Does anyone know how to back up the pre-installed classical music tracks that are on the Zen Touch? I want to do this so I can upgrade the firware to 'plays for sure' without losing these tracks. Apparently upgrading the firmware to 'plays for sure' will?delete the?tracks. I haven't been able to copy these tracks?to hard dri've/CD or even record them as they are 'protected'. Creative telephone support?are just rude and unhelpful. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help! I will try to follow your advice using the recording facility in creative media source organiser- it will be painstaking but that's not a problem for me if it works. If I connect the Touch headphone socket to the line-in on my PC, will I be able to listen to the tracks through the speakers on my PC as they are?being played/recorded? It would be good if I can do this as I will?then know exactly when to start/stop the recording. Also do you know which recording source I should select (I would guess 'microphone' but maybe 'mixed output')? Thanks again- it's good to get some helpful suggestions for a change!

Zen Touch Display light inbetween track

Any chance I can have the display light up for a second or two when a new track begins to play? This would be great since I use my Zen Touch in my car and it would be a very helpful feature while driving at night.

No, unfortunaltely your player can not do this.
I have never thought of such an option. For me personally it is of no value, I do not need it, but it is interesting to observe how the needs for more features and options are subject to evolution. I remember myself longing for a muvo, than I wanted something more, than a larger capacity, than some more advanced features and menu options and it never ends. One discovers every day some new needs to improve the usability of...everything. It is never enough...:-)

Zen Touch Touch Pad Stopped work

Well I turned it on this morning and the touch pad wouldnt work. Ive had it just over a year so its out of warrenty. Anyone have any ideas on how to get it working again.

I feel ever so slightly annoyed as it's pretty much brand new as I only received it a few days ago.
I had the same problem when I first got my Touch. I have the sensitivity set to the lowest setting. It has helped. It might also be that you just aren't used to the pad yet. That took me a couple months, but 5 months later, it works great for me.

Zen Touch touchpad stopped work

Alright so I bought my Zen Touch 20GB on September 4th, 2005, for $200. It's been great for the year since until recently the touchpad just stopped working... I updated the firmware to 2..0 just now and it still doesn't work. The Random button works so right now all I have it a huge Creative Zen Touch Shuffle.
I believe my free -year warranty expired just a couple of days ago which is quite unfortunate. I didn't purchase any extended warranty. Not sure what to do now. Any ways to fix it's Does the player have any value any more?Message Edited by artanisxvi on 09-08-2006 05:45 PM

A couple of days might be wai'ved when dealing with Creative's warranty. Act fast. Try reseting the player, and if that doesnt work, contact creative through email (support>contact). They still should honor the warranty, if you are really polite =)

Zen Touch Track Or

Recently, when I rip CD's to PC Music Library, they are not listed by track, but alphabetically. They are also now transfered to a Zen Touch player in that order. It was not always this way, how can I get them onto the MP3 player in the order they appear on the CD? Thanks.

I am guessing you either are using a different program to rip the CD or have changed a setting somehow. I use WMP0 and rip into WMA files, allowing WMP to download the track info automatically from the internet database. Creative uses Gracenote (? I think) for CD data. If you are allowing this function to change your track names (I personally think this is a great feature), it should create your tag info correctly for you. If the track number is in there, your player should play it in order. Some simple players only play in order of filename, so you may see the actual filenames on your PC (not what shows up in MediaSource or WMP---these names are from the tag info not the actual filename) start like 0 Waterloo (Abba).wma or something like that. The program puts the "0" in there so it plays first, keeping the album order. There are also programs that will re-title your track names for you if your player can't play in track order. Car MP3 players (the ones that use a CDR) are typcially only capable of playing in alpha-numeric order, so filenames should have numbers in front to keep album order intact.
Sorry to ramble---check settings on your ripping software to see whether you are getting track info from the internet and how it is creating the filename. Some have a checkbox to put a number in front. WMA0 is kiind of automatic, does a good job for WMA and that's why I use it.
