Zen touch transfer prob

Hi, I'm running win2k usb2.0. I'm only able to transfer about 7 mp3 files before nomad tells me that an unknown failure occurred. The zen touch then stays in docking modus and I have to reboot it. Can someone tell me why that is?

Could be a lot of reasons. Have?a look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

  • Constant Zen Touch freezing prob

Hey all, I've had my 40 gig Zen Touch for about 6 or 7 months now, and although it used to not give me any problems at all. About 3 months ago, it started to freeze randomly. As time progressed, it went from about once a week to about once per listening session. All my files are MP3s, I have the 2..0 firmware, and have run Disk Cleanup. Yet the freezing still occurs constantly. Any suggestions to fix this problem? Thanks!

    Hi,
Well corrupted data can be to blame for freezing but a clean-up usually resolves that. As you're still experiencing problems I'd back up your data and format the player. If you get any transfer errors from specific files during the backup then you can be pretty certain that these were the ones causing the problem.
If there are still problems let me know.
    Hope this helps,
    John

  • Zen Touch, Transfer Ra

Has anybody actually measured the transfer rates using various software to the Zen Touch? (ie Creative MediaSource, WMP0, etc.). I have tried 3 programs, WMP0, MediaSource and Yahoo Music Engine. My perception is that Mediasource is the fastest, YME second, and WMP0 is the slowest. However, that's just a perception--never measured it nor do I know how to measure it.

I've also seen varying rates mentioned, particularly WMP being slow for the older Zens. Although I'm not sure why this should be, other than for some processing overhead, as they're all using the same drivers.
To measure the data rate is pretty easy. Transfer across a reasonable number of files, say 00Mb+. Then simply time how long it takes (using a stopwatch, second-hand of your watch etc.). Then divide the amount of data (easily done by selecting the files transferred, and right-clicking to get their properties) by the time taken. Usually data rates are quoted in Mb/s.
With USB I used to get a fairly horrific 300kb/s. With firewire I used to get around 3Mb/s. And with my latest computer and USB2 I'm getting around 5Mb/s.

  • PLEZ HELP! Zen touch transfer iss

Hi, im havin some issues with my zen touch. It connects fine to mediasource (meanin im able to see zen touch under sources and see the music stored on my touch etc) and i can sometimes transfer music to it from my comouter via usb. However sumtimes it doesnt work, i.e i'l be able to send anywhere between -20 songs to it and then the next song i try to transfer an error message is displayed on media source "player is either busy or not connected, please try again later" then i'l have to leave it for at least half an hour and repeat the process until the problem arises again. U can understand how annoying this is for me especially since im trying to put such a large music collection onto my player. Can any help. i will be grateful 4 any possible solutions..

AliClifton: Connection and transfer issues are always tricky to troubleshoot because it can be many things.
The first thing to try is a disk cleanup, which is very simple to do. To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.
Secondly, make sure you have the latest drivers, software and firmware from Nomadworld.com downloads.
Thirdly, check whether the player has the same problem on a friend's PC.

  • Zen Touch Touchpad Prob

Anyone else experience a problem where the touchpad stops working for any amount of time. For no reason it stops working, either when i first turn it on, or while im using it. It wont scroll, it won't detect my touch... however the buttons still seem to work like I can go back to the menu screen. Is this a common problem, I dont like it very much and am pretty sure I'm gonna have to exchange it.

Hello everyone... I purchased my Zen Touch 40GB on 2/3/2004. For the past fi've months, I've never had a problem with the device, not even a need to reset, until today. The touchpad no longer works. It only functions sporadically despite resets, clean-ups, and a reinstall of the firmware. It's doing the same thing cited by the OP. Does anyone know of a fix for this. If I had to return it to creative, any ideas what it would cost to repair? I hear they give you a refurb back. I have 9002 tracks on my player and would hate to lose them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Zen Touch display prob

It's not a big deal, but having just received a replacement Zen Touch after my last one froze, there's a display problem which is annoying me...
Whenever I open a "window" within the screen (for instance, the volume control, or the window that opens when you click on a band name - "Play / View Albums / View tracks" etc), the vertical bars at either edge continue outside the "window" and on to the top and bottom of the screen.
Should I be worried, or do I just have to learn to love it's

Problem has been solved with a simple reset
    I switched off the Zen
Then pressed the play/pause button and inserted a paperclip into the reset hole
Then removed the clip and released the play/pause button
Interestingly enough I didn't get prompted to format the phone or anything else, but it has cleared the problem.
Weird I think - but seems to have worked.
I had downloaded the latest OS/Firmware incase I needed to format and wipe the whole thing, but it wasn't needed.
    Thanks for the responses though.
    Cheers.

  • Zen Touch pausing prob

    Hi all,
I have a Zen Touch, bought in November, with the latest firmware upgrade. The problem I've been having recently is while playing songs they suddenly pause for a second or so then start again. Sometimes other songs start playing in the middle of a song, then it goes back to the one shown on the screen. Any ideas how I can fix this?
    Thanks!

Do a disk clean up from the rescue mode. It takes a couple of minutes and it rebuilds the library.

  • Zen touch connecting prob

I bought the zen touch yesterday and since then I have not succesfully been able to dock it to my computer. I followed all the instructions and have uninstalled/reinstalled several times. In device manager it says that the zen touch is working properly, but whenever I open nomad explorer the device blinks "docked" a couple times then goes back to the menu screen. I was wondering if anyone could help me?
    Thanks

I wouldn't recommend installing software *after* the Zen is attached, this can cause other problems with the driver not being found by the player.
I would recommend to the original poster that you make sure you get the latest drivers, firmware, and MediaSource from Nomadworld.com downloads. Install this with the Zen *not* connected, then when all is done and the PC is rebooted connect the Zen.
If you're still having problems there's lots of advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

  • Zen Touch freeze prob

Today, my Zen Touch decided to stop responding...to anything. When I power it up, it goes to the last song I had played, but it doesn't respond to any buttons at all. I can't even turn the unit off until it idles for 5 min and shuts off itself. The player however does respond to Media Source and I can add and remove music to it. I tried running rescue mode but to no avail because nothing shows up on the screen. I had the player for a little more than a week now and I never dropped it or anything like that. Any suggestions?

Ok, I made it into the recovery console, but I erased the firmware =$
How do reinstall new firmware? Creative has zero firmware updates for the zen touch, not even the original firmware is listed there. Now I can't use my player at all! HELP!

  • Zen Touch Screen Prob

I have had my Zen Touch for almost 2 years, and have never had a problem with it until yesterday. The screen is now completely blank. The blue backlight and blue power light still work, as do all of the buttons. It still plays all of my music, but the LCD screen is completely blank so I can't see the song, album title, track time, etc....
I've tried the reset button a few times, turning it off and on, and even plugging it into the charger, all with no success. I'm in the process of running the battery down to see if that helps, but I doubt it will. Anyone face a similar problem or know of a solution? Is it broken for good? Please help!
    Thank you!
    -Jeremy

    Yes,
I've got the same problem. The unit is about a year and a half old now. One day it worked and then poof it didn't.
I sure don't know of a solution at this time. From reading the posts on this forum it sure seems like this is a fairly wide spread problem which has a lot of consumers very upset with the poor quality of this unit. As many people have posted I find it hard to imagine that the cost of getting the unit repaired would be warranted.
Up until this point I was very happy with the unit and because of this both of my children have Creative products (a Micro and a Vision M).
I wonder if we have any makings of a class action suit here?
I can tell you this, if either my daughters or son's unit give less than acceptable lifespan then I will never, ever consider purchasing another Creative product again. Great performing product, very easy to use, lousy lifespan (seem to be pre-programmed to die shortly after warranty - seems to be a common trait of electronics these days).
I'm currently considering the Toshiba MP3 products - looks very nice, hopefully better quality.
Please post any solution to this problem or information regarding getting the unit repaired.

  • Zen Touch USB Prob

my player recently showed 'Firmware problem' so i had to go to recovery mode and reinstall firmware, and also format the hard disk.
The problem i have is that when i plug the player into the USB slot, it comes up with a message that says 'Hi-Speed usb device plugged into non hi-speed usb port' or something similar. then i click on the message like it says, and it shows me a diagram of my usb controller branching off into each individual port. the creative zen bit has a yellow symbol with an exclamation mark which usually shows when there is a problem with the connection
the bottom line is, windows is not communicating with the player at all, even though i have gone through the CD installation twice. This was a problem for me when i got the player, but i got it working after a while, can't remember how...
anyone got any ideas how to solve this?

    Hi
Not sure if its of any use but have you checked the version level for your Zen Touch, it may have been updated and so you will need to download new drivers and Software to mange your Zen.

  • Zen Touch button prob

The buttons on my Zen aren't working when I press them, the odd thing is the touchpad and the on/off button work fine its just the others/main ones that stuff up

    Try reset first:
Insert a paper clip into the Reset hole on the lower left side of the player. If that doesn't work go to rescue/recovery mode:
Creative Zen Firewire / USB 2.0 / Zen NX / Zen Xtra / Zen Touch
Ensure that the Jukebox Zen is turned off.
Hold down the Play/Pause button and insert a paper clip into the Reset hole on the Jukebox Zen.
Remove the paper clip from the Reset hole.
The Jukebox Zen will enter the Recovery (Rescue) Mode (release the play/pause button) and the following options will be displayed:
).Clean Up (Performs a disk scan on the players harddisk)
2).Format All (Formats the players harddisk - Note: all contents will be lost)
3).Reload OS (Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Note: Reloading your OS, will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen)
    4).Reboot (Reboots the device).

  • Zen Touch Playlist Prob

I JUST got my Touch today, so I am still new to it all. I have updated the Dri'ves, the Firmware to the latest(2.) and the MediaSource to 3.30 with the newest plugins. Now, I am trying to create some play list. I create one that is of a CD, and it transfered the files over nicely. BTW, I am doing this in MediaSource. Then, I went to create a new play list. The one was a mix of about 64 songs, and contianed a few from the CD I had already made. When it transfered over the song to the player, it did not add the songs from the CD already on the player into the play list. So, how do I had a song to a playlist if it is already on the Zen, in another play list, and in another folder? Dragin and droping dose not work, becuase it tries to upload the file. I just want to add the songs back into the play list.

Well, I figure it out. If I try to add a file to a play list, off of the computer hard dri've, it will try to add it AND upload. If it is already on the Zen Touch, it will not upload or add to the play list. So, I had to had the song to the play list by draging it from the Zen Touch, not the computer. That would be something nice to have fixed on the MediaSource software. If you try to add a song to a play list and it is already loaded onthe MP3 player, add it to the play list, not fail to upload and not add.

  • Zen Touch Recharging prob

Does ANYONE else have this charging problem with a Zen Touch? It's got to the point now where I CAN'T charge the stupid thing unless it's docked. Left it supposedly on charge last night, found it this morning with less charge than it started with!
HOW STUPID IS THIS? I really love the thing from the sound point of view but am now seriously considering defecting to the 'pod camp cos I can't keep it charged!

See the link "firmware problem" in the FAQ post.
