Zen touch unrecognized on comp after year of u

i plug it in and get the "this device can perform faster in a usb2 outlet" (unfortunately i only have usb but this has never been a problem before). I put new music on it in the last month but today when i plugged it in it's not being recognized by the organizer or explorer as being connected. the little bubble box asking if i want to organize now isnt coming up and i cant access it. i went into recovery mode and cleaned it up but still nothing. any ideas?

Have you changed anything on your computer? i.e. changed/updated drivers?
You may want to try reinstalling the zen touch software and drivers. There may also be a problem with the USB drivers on your computer.
Right click on the "My Computer" icon > "Properties" > "Hardware" tab > "Device Manager" > scroll down to "Uni'versal Serial Bus Controllers" and you should see different components when you expand it. Windows will tell you if there is a problem, but if want to be sure you can uninstall them (right click > uninstall), restart windows and the drivers will be installed again.

  • Zen Touch shows no reaction after re

Hello @ everyone, I've got a problem with my Zen Touch. It doesn't do anything apart from showing the Start Up screen ( the one where it says Creative, Copyright 2004 etc.) and even that only when I connect it with the charger.
That was a result of me resetting it after it got stuck on a song. Strangely it played that song right to the end, while no button could be pushed.
Tried everything, eg resetting with the paperclip while pushing play, no difference whether i plugged it in during that or not.
Had some problem like that before, but after i gave up on it, the player mysteriously revi'ved after i put the charger in HALF a year later!!!
Is there any hope for it not being completely damaged? Or should i try to open it's The warranty is expired anyway...
Oh yes, and I DID search the forum but did not find what I was looking for.
Help is very much appreciated. Medellia

    The hard disk is dead..
A Gen4 TC if less than 3 years old and you have applecare on a computer might still be in warranty.
Otherwise open it up and replace the hard disk.

  • Zen Touch 40 GB: problems transferring music files and playli

    Hi,
Creative Zen Touch 40 GB, one year old<
    [color="#330000">PlaysForSure Firmware 2..0<
    Creative MediaSource Organizer 5.0.38<
    Creative?Sync Manager 5.0.9.0<
    Windows XP Service Pack 2<
527?music (.wma) files on the player; 4205 MB of free space<
I'm finding it increasingly difficult to?transfer music files and playlists to my Zen Touch player now that the amount of free space on it has fallen below 5 GB. More often than not, it's necessary to put the player into Recovery mode, perform a clean-up, and then reboot and rebuild the library before Sync Manager works properly. I often need to repeat this process several times before I can transfer anything. Increasingly, too, Windows fails to detect the presence of the player when I connect it to my computer. Rebooting both the player and the computer usually fixes this issue. Transferring files by dragging and dropping in Windows Explorer is obviously much quicker than using Sync Manager, but here again I keep running into problems. It's as if the player freezes and refuses to take on-board any more files. Also, I can't find a way to transfer playlists except with Sync Manager. Are these known problems? I recalling running into similar issues with the Zen Touch 20 GB a few years ago. And could the fact that I'm doggedly using an old (998) and underpowered computer be an issue? I'm thinking of replacing the computer anyway, but is it likely that these synchronization problems would diminish or disappear altogether if I were to upgrade to something speedier? Thanks for any insights,Pete

I too have a simular problems! Managing music is the biggest problem with over 0 Gigs. Some artists songs sometimes change name titles, artists,?and etc. Win Explorer is most used by me now. Yes, I do lose sync from time to time! Especially when I open two windows on the portable zen. There are two tools that need. . Playlist management - it takes too long to do it on the player. I want to create "Gym Vibes" and had it on my old creative?Nomad player, but couldn't transfer. "Creative Sync Manager" doesn't do it!?Without all that sync stuff how can I create and edit creative's playlist on a PC?2. A method for detecting dupicates? This is my second creative portable and if I don't get the tools I won't buy another!

  • Zen Touch playlists with MediaSource &

I have a zen touch w/ the updated firmware, and i just updated all the software.. the mediasource suite?
anyhow, I've been using windows media player to sync my zen touch. I just autosynced them on WMP, and it worked just dandy. however, i just downloaded the mediasource suite thing, and none of the playlists that are on my zen touch appear when i look at the zen touch media explorer. is there any way to access them?
The reason why this matters to me is because i'd like to be able to transfer songs from my zen touch to another comp some time and the zen touch media explorer has that feature. and it'd be infinitely easier to do it via playlist than song by song. especially since windows media player organized all the songs into separate folders by artist.
I did look for this question on the forums before i posted, but i didn't see a clear answer.Message Edited by erink02 on -28-2005 0:22 AM

The playlists appear correctly on the player right? If so then this could be a problem with Zen Media Explorer itself, not sure of a fix hopefully someone does.
As for getting songs off your player in that structure (Artist\Album\song_title.mp3) then you can use Windows Explorer/My Computer. Open that up and you should see your player listed, you can then highlight, copy, and paste it onto your computer. Playlists are not recognized in Windows Explorer so you will have a problem with that.

  • Zen Touch appears em

I've had my creative zen touch for more than a year and a half and used it every day with it working fine. A few months ago, Mediasource loaded it as empty on my PC, but it is actually full. However all my music is still on it and i can play directly from the player but not through my computer. I've tried opening the player through other programs but this doesn't work either. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of the Creative software that came on the CD with it'sbut it hasn't worked. Does anybody know why this is and how i can fix the problem I can't put any new music on it. Please help me if you can, none of the 20GB of music on it is backed up (due to lack of space on my computer) and I don't know what I'd do if i lost it all. Without music, life wouldn't be fair. Thanks very much in advance. Jonny.

Hi, I get sometimes the same problem, try to turn on in recovery mode & clean up:
Go to www.creative.com -> support -> knowledge base ->and select you player, & search: "Recovery Mode: What to Do And How To Access"
    & follow the instructions.
I cleaned up my player, but this action erased my songs. So,back up your files before do this.

  • Zen Touch on Vi

I've had my Zen Touch for years and really like it but I just got a new computer and it came preloaded with Vista (in case anybody hasn't heard, Vista really, really sucks) When I put in the disc to load the software for my Zen, it just freezes and I have to do a hard reboot. Anybody have any suggestions (that don't involve running a different OS please, I'm not savvy enough for that.) Thanks!

Re: Zen Touch on Vista Funq....the MTP upgrade for the Zen Touch has been out for YEARS. When you neglect to update drivers, etc., you can wind up with an incompatible device. This is true of many peripherals. Apple has rarely, if ever, offered decent legacy support...their position is upgrade everything (and charge for it) or upgrade nothing and keep your equipment. This is not merely a Vista issue. It started with WMP and the change to MTP. THis is, overall, a big improvement in player and device synchronization for 99.9% of users. If you can find an XP computer with WMP0 (not !!) you can upgrade your firmware and be all set.
Why is it that people expect Windows to maintain legacy support forever and when Apple abandons EVERYONE who does not upgrade (for 25.00 or so) it is no big [email protected]

  • Zen touch for 15 year old boy - tips on precautio

My mom and I are going to go in for a zen touch for my brother - a 5 year old boy. Now he's about the average forgetful, neglectful, clumsy kind of boy. But he does value what he has. He has a cell phone which he pays for himself, and has used the same cd player for 2 years, but it recently broke (convenient it's around christmastime). Anyway, customer support suggested against engraving (like the ipod) because it's not metal and it's a harddri've. But what other precautions can we take to make it permanantly know this belongs to him? Can it be engraved?
I've already suggested he buy replacement headphones that aren't the notorious white earbuds so people can't tell, and keep it in it's incognito black case...any other suggestions?

dustball, I had another idea about this.
First off I have a question about the warrantee that maybe a Mode could comment on? So if Dustball takes the back casing off of the touch will that void the warrantee? I?m not sure because I know that on the older Zen there was a warrantee sticker on the hard dri've, but I was wondering if CL changed it.
So Dustball, if it turns out that taking the back casing off will not void the warrantee then you can take the back off, and get it engraved without risking damage to the player. And then put it back on, and no problems.

  • Some WMA/DRM files won't sync after firmware upgrade on Zen Touch

I downloaded an eaudio book from my library, which grants a 2 day license. Prior to upgrading the firmware (to the latest available) on my Zen Touch, I was able to upload this book and play it while walking, etc.
At the same time, I was able to upload several other books I had downloaded and licensed. All are WMA/DRM.
After upgrading the firmware, I was able to resync some of the books I'd downloaded to my Zen Touch. Several, however, yield error messages--no matter how I try to upload them (WMP, Creative MediaSource, Zen Touch Media Explorer). All refuse to let me upload.
These books previously uploaded/played just fine. Note: they still play fine using WMP and Creative's software. But, it's a bit difficult to lug my desktop around when walking/running through the woods.
Any idea what the problem might be? All MediaSource says is:
    <IMG src="http://herb.thetysons.org/images/CMC-error.jpg">
WMP0 tells me that "an unknown error" has occurred. Neither event is significant to make it to the system's application event log.
Any ideas on why these files--which could be tranferred before--can't be transferred now? The licenses are still valid, and the file format is identical to those that transferred without incident.

OK, my update. After reading the recent responses (thanks!), I performed the following experiments.
    1) Reverted to the original v2.0 via factory restore, relinked to the Mac. ATV immediately copied over my entire library (one movie, lots of music) from the Mac, because I have iTunes checked marked for Automatic Sync ("iTunes automatically chooses the audio and video to sync, etc.").
*I consider this to be normal and expected behaviour.*
    2) Downloaded and installed the 2.1 update (again...). After reboot the ATV was still on my network and still linked to my Mac. However there was no longer any media content on the ATV (as before).
*I do not consider this to be normal, expected behaviour. Nor, for that matter, is wiping user content acceptable.*
    3) Cancelled and relinked ATV to Mac. As soon as the linking code was entered, automatic sync started. Only the one movie was copied, but no music.
*I do not consider this to be normal, expected behaviour.*
    4) When that sync was completed I went and checked all the songs in one album in iTunes as a quick test, then sync'd again. That song was promptly copied to the ATV.
    Progress!
    5) Checked all songs, initiated a new sync and they're being copied as I write.
    Success!
So v2.1 requires music to be manually selected in iTunes in order for automatic sync to work. Anyone not spot a contradiction in terms? Furthermore that was certainly not the case in software versions prior to 2.1, nor was this change communicated in any way I'm aware of to the user.
My conclusion is that this is either a bug, or else sheer thoughtlessness on Apple's part.
But my sincere thanks to those who've helped me to restore proper function to the ATV (well, fingers crossed), a device that I've become very fond of.

  • Zen Touch Fubar after XBox 3

Hi, sorry if this has been covered before but I have searched the site and can't find any help so I wonder if anyone can help me out!
I recently got an Xbox 360 and after unsuccessfully getting it to see my Zen Touch 20GB I realised I had to upgrade my Firmare to allow for the Plays for Sure compatability. At this time I also downloaded Windows Media Connect so that I could connect my PC to my Xbox 360 as well. After upgrading my Firmware/drivers/Nomad Plug In/Mediasource etc. my PC could no longer see my Zen unless it was through windows Media Player 0. I tried changing the USB settings in the registry as suggested, but they were already set correctly. When I tried transferring using Media Player the Zens disc read as having been used up, but it did not show any songs etc. in the menu. Eventually I cleared it again and dragged my backed up from Zen files into the Windows media device icon under 'My Computer'. Please note, I could not access the Zen any other way - it reads as no USB device attached. After I had my music files put back on this way they were a jumbled mess with album tracks missing and many files unrecognised or unlisted. I tried reinstalling the drivers and the software again, but it made no difference. I took my Zen into work where I had my old software and driver on a PC but it still could not see it.
Finally this morning I tried to reinstall the firmware. When I opened the installer it could not find my player, so eventually I decided to recover my Zen and and select reload firmware on it. Now all I have is a zen that just says there is a firmware problem when I turn it on and which my PC still cannot see to install firmware on it. I uninstalled all my new software and drivers from my PC and reinstalled my originally supplied disk, but still nothing! Can anyone help me or is my Zen a right off? If it is I would strongly suggest to everyone to not bother upgrading their Firmware. Does anyone know is it salvageable?

Read that. I had the same problem but its fixed now.
Reload OS = Delete OS and corrupt my player.
Creative software developers are dumb.. whatcha gonna do.

  • Zen Touch freezes even after full recha

I have a 20gb Zen Touch that I have not used for the past few weeks(This is because of my new toy, my 30BG Zen Vision M). Figuring that the battery was discharged or something because of the lack of use, I recharged it fully. I turn it on and it gets stuck on the "Zen Touch" screen. I have tried to reset the Touch numerous times, but it still gets stuck on that screen. Somehow, I think the Zen Touch battery is fried. Help!

Well you can't get to recovery mode. Only thing left to do replace the hardri've. That's most likely why it won't go into recovery.

  • Zen touch stuck in recovery mode after usual update attempt.HE

I like many others on the forum have attempted to carry out the firmware update only to be left in the same position as many others. My zen touch is now stuck in the recovery mode with no firmware and my pc wont recognise the player. The o/s on my pc is windows xp professional version 2002 service pack 2. I have wiped the hard dri've and installed a copy of windows 2000 but still no luck. I re-installed windows xp and now in device manager i have a creative zen touch showing and also a pci modem both with yellow ? marks next to them with a message of re-install drivers code 28,however the drivers are already installed with the latest driver from the creative web site. It appears that the pc wont recognise the player because there is no firmware installed. I have tried almost everything that has been mentioned on the forum and am now at my wits end. The player was working perfectly well before trying the firware update and i think that it is disgusting that a company as large as creative has not helped more with this problem ,looking at the amount of people that has had this same thing happen to them.Any help from you good people out there would be much appreciated. Thank you.Paul.

I too tried the 'upgrade' and now my Zen is history. I will not give up - I just do not have the hours that it will take to fix available to me right now.
I am very serious, Creative People, I have 2 suggestions:
) remove the faulty upgrade from your website
    2) Fire the person who initiated the upgrade.
I certainly wouldn't have a job if I created an upgrade like this.

  • Firmware Problem on my zen touch....PLEASE HELP ME

Hi, I have had my zen touch for over a year now, works great. Recently I tried to up grade the firmware to ZenTouchP4S_PCFW_LB_2__0.exe While installing it erased the whole music plus the previous firmware. So when installing it froze an now my player starts in recovery mode an its in v0.0.0. When I try to upload the new firmware it tells me to connect my player, but its already connected. Nothing wrong with my usb cord so I am lost, can anyone help me resolve this problem so I can listen to my music again.....thanks.

I finally got it. I had to uninstall and reinstall the zen touch, windows 0, an the media source from the installation disc. After that when i plugged the player in it stayed in the recovery mode, before it would say docked an have that lil music note screen on. So i went to device manager on my comp an looked up the zen touch, it said error code 0. I followed the on screen instructions from my comp. It said to right click an uninstall then go to add hardware, an it searched for devices plugged in an BAM! A lil screen poopped up an said zen touch player detected......So i hurried an installed the new firmware an everything is ok now. So anyone havin the same problem follow these somewhat clear instructions. Thanks.
