ZEN V.. A pain in the but

Hey y'all,I just purchased a ZEN V mp3 player. I installed all the necessary programs to my computer, but when I go to ZEN V Series Media Explorer it tells me my device isn't connected to the computer, and it definitely is. Can anyone please help me? If not, I'm going to return the stupid thing.

I had a similar problem. Took me a few days to work through the problem with the aid of Creative Support. Eventually, I had to disconnect all my USB devices & uninstall the controller. I then connected my Zen to a USB 2.0 port (on a PCI card), I also connected my USB Modem. On restart Windows detected the Player & the Modem. I then went to the Creative support site and selected Auto detect. This identified a Firmware upgrade for the player. Once this was complete I reinstalled all my other USB devices. Now working OK. I have to admit I was close to giving it up. Glad I didn't because it really is a great little piece of kit. Try connect your player to the rear usb port of your PC, reason is that
usb port of nearest to your mainboard, which provide more power than
your front usb port. (Make sure you not using sharing hub)
- Try a different USB cable, or switch to a cable that is known to
function properly.
- Try a different USB port, or switch to port that is known to function
properly.
- Temporarily disconnect other USB devices such as cameras, scanners, or
printers, etc.
To check if your player is properly connected to your PC
You can check? if the player is detected in Device Manager.
- Click on Start => Run. Type: devmgmt.msc and click on OK to launch the
Device Manager
Do let me know if you can see any Yellow '!' or '?' marks under USB
Serial Bus Controllers Category Windows Portable Device Category, or
Unknown device Category. If you see that, please completely remove the
USB controller and letting XP rebuild the USB controller and clean up
the registry. Thus go into the Device Manager, under the Uni'versal
Serial Bus Controller, delete all USB controller items in the Device
manager, then let the operating system re-install the entire USB driver
system.
If you can see the device under the Windows Portable Devices, try?
right-clicking on the player and select Update Driver. Using the Have?
Disk option, point the location to C\WINDOWS\INF on your system?
directory by default.

    Yeah that works, but, it involves a click on the event, a click on edit, a click on the date, keystrokes, plus, since you can't see the next month you have to have a calendar in front of you so as to put it to the right date. It's easier just to cut it and advance the month and paste it, once you are in the right month you can move it around helter skelter willy nilly no problems. Although now that you mention it I will try it, maybe it is easier than cut and paste as I don't really care about the date, as long as it gets moved into the right month I can drag it around all I want.

    Uninstall "BitDefender" completely, not just the Safari extension.
    Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
    Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
    I never install system modifications myself, and I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
    Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.

    Ok I worked with Quark all of my career, now I am at a new place and Tech Supp. decided to go all Adobe CS2, I have no problems with that, love the suite, Love Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and so on...

    I work Very large documents, 200 pages plus, so, I make master pages, great, put my text boxes in the masters, to save time and layout pains, so there I go, start flowing the texts, but wait! All items that are on the master pages are lock, and I have to unlock each and every one by hand, don't tell me that does not bug the hell out of anyone here...
    At least in quark you could readjust your layout, the master items ARE NOT LOCKED!!!!
    Who can tell me in full how to have some items on the master editable and other not... and command shift is not an option with 200 pages and 10 items per page to unlock!

    Ok, first of all just a couple of tips...
    I noticed if you wanted to give your text frame a border you created two text frames. It's not necessary. Select the text frame and click Cmd+B and you can set the inset spacing.
    Also, I highly recommend you take advantage of object styles. They work just like paragraph styles. You can create them by example, too. Just select a formatted text frame and select create new object style. Then you just have to click on the name to apply all the attributes of the frame to any new frame.
    Here's a script that will override all master page items. So what you should do is first add all the pages you think you will need and run the script and everything will be unlocked. If you need to add more pages, just ad the pages and rerun the script. You can also assign a keyboard shortcut to the script.

    If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:

    I updated my iPod and its telling me to plug it into the wall but I lost my charger!! Does anyone know what I can do to fix it cos I can't do anything!! I've tried the 5 R's and they don't work and I've tried running the battery flat and that doesn't help!!! its a pain in the ***!!!! help me!!

    When updating or restoring some iPods via a usb connection, it needs to be plugged into power via the charger to complete the process, and this is why you see that icon displayed. It's also why older iPods that required this step were supplied with a power adaptor as standard.
    You may be able to complete the process via a car charger, or via a powered firewire port on the computer (with the required 6 pin cable of course) if you have access to either of those. Or maybe visit an Apple store if one is nearby.

    Other than that, your iPod cannot be used until you complete this process.

  • Zen Touch: Importing Playlists to the player with new firmware?/ Where do I get MediaSourc

    I have a problem with my Creative Zen Touch. I have updated the firmware of the Player to 2.., the new one which causes many trouble. The trouble is that I can throw my music via plug and play on the Player, but just with the Media Explorer for Play-for-Sure-Devices and with the Windows Media Player 0.
    With this programs it works quite fine, but I cannnot import playlists to the player, just the plain files. With the Media Explorer for Play-for-Sure-Devices I cant even select the Playlists and with the Windows Media Player the files just get loaded onto the player, but it does not import the playlist into the playlist-screen in the media-library in my Zen Touch.
    Before the stupid firmware-update came out, I used the Creative MediaSource-software, this worked quite well, because I also could import my Windows-Media-Player-Playlists and this was great. But now it does not work anymore. The problem with MediaSource is that after the firmware-update it does not recognize that my Zen Touch is connected with the PC. That is the reason why I cannot use this software to drag my music onto the Zen Touch.
    I tried to update my MediaSource via Internet via the auto-update-tool. Now I have mediaSource 3.30.2 but it still does not work. In this forum I read that there is a version 5 avaiable but where can I get it's Would it actually solve the recognizing-problem
    Are there maybe other possibilities to solve this problem
    I really need your help!

    OK, now I have found the MediaSource5-Software and I have downloaded and installed it. In the startpage there is at the end of the box "transfer playlist" but if I click on it, it says, that my Zen Touch is not connected. Overall the new MediaSource does not recognize my player, like the version 3 did too. But other software is recognizing that the Zen Touch is connected with the PC, like the Windows Media Player 0 or the Media Explorer for PlaysForSure-Devices.
    Please help me!

    Ok, so everything is fine with my G4 Powerbook now running 10.5.8 except for FLASH (read pain in the....). I've all sorts of info on what version to intall only they don't work.
    So, is there and intaller Flash App and the Flash App it's self? What version? is it 10.1.102.64 or something of that nature. One I found w/ and r in it  somewhere. In other words 10.1.102r.64?  Is it for Firefox, Safari, or Chrome? And just to confuse and confound, what is the debugger? Then! How to make it work! Why Adobe? Why do you make it so confusing?     They do make it confusing, & 10.1.102.64 is the latest supported version for PPC Macs.
    It should work for Safari & Firefox, but Chrome is Intel ionly besides having it's own version inside it I understand.
    You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

    Once downloaded if it doesn't unzip automatically the double click on that file.

    The last really supported Flash for PPC was 10.1.102.64, but if it's for like Facebook or such, people have been fooling FB to think they have a leter version installed.

  • Zen x-fi went thru the wash

    My son ran his zen 6g x-fi thru the washing machine. I dried it out for a few days, and now it powers on, but nothing happens on the screen. At first there was condensation, but that's cleared out now. I'd like to open the unit up to let it dry out better, but don't have a clue how to do that without breaking the plastic body.
    The unit does sync up with windows explorer, and I've backed up all his music and data files.
    Anyone have any suggestions before we chuck it's?

    Bought Zen 2G, been more than week, but still can't be recognized by my own pc. Running well with my wife's lappy thou. Tried to uninstall the whole bunch of Creative software, I even went to safe mode to delete all the folders. Reinstall, still the same error messsage, "class installer had denied the request to install or upgrade the device"
    I also went inside Device manager, delete the Zen (with exclamation mark) reinstall with windows, same thing happened.
    What went wrong? help me...

    Anyone from the Creative board or the guru around has an idea of what can I do?

  • Missing Songs on Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - 40GB. Player empty but space not 1

    I have the Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 40GB.
    Over the last couple of weeks I?ve been slowly ripping my CDs, using Creative MediaSource and then adding them to my Nomad player. Recently, I went to turn on my player and notice it saying ?rebuilding library?. I thought nothing of it.<SPAN> I then went to see how many songs and albums were on the player and from what I could tell it looked like a lot less than what I thought I had copied over. The songs were something like 3750 and the number of albums was something like 350, which was far less than what I thought it should be but was not 00% for sure.<SPAN> Total free space was something like 7800MB.
    Anyway, yesterday, I tried to copy over some new songs that I had just ripped from CDs.<SPAN> ? of the way through the battery died on the Zen player so it stopped transferring. I went to charge the player and when turned it on the player said ?rebuilding library?. There should, at this point, had been 4500+ songs.<SPAN> I went and tried to copy over the files again, from my computer, and noticed that the songs that I had just copied and would have been skipped, were being copied over again. When I went to check Settings, About the player said I had the ~3750 songs plus the additional songs that had just copied over. At this point I just copied over the new songs bringing my total count to 4634. To be safe, I copied all the songs from my Zen back to a new computer, using Creative MediaSource. After copying over all the files, I then tried a reset of the player, thinking this would delete all the files on the Zen. Instead it did the ?rebuilding library?.<SPAN> When I went back to Settings, About, on the Zen player, it again said there was the ~3750 songs and ~350 albums.<SPAN> So the ?rebuilding library? on my Zen player keeps on removing/hiding my songs and albums.
    Since nothing was working, I connected my Zen to my computer again and using the Creative MediaSource deleted all the songs on my Zen player. When I was done it is showing No. of Tracks: 0.<SPAN> Total Memory:<SPAN> 3833MB.<SPAN> Free Memory though is only 8659MB.
    There is nothing on my Zen player that I can see. Even using Windows Explorer and Nomad Explorer, it is completely blank.
    Someone help please.<SPAN> How do I get back my missing songs and/or reset the player? If at all possible I?d like to get the missing songs off the player since I don?t have those ripped songs on my computer and don?t feel like ripping all those songs again.<SPAN> What is going on?

  • OS 10.5 Leopard install a real pain in the neck!

    Before you install this new OS, make sure you backup all your important files. At work, I went to upgrade a non-intel, dual processor G5 tower, and everything was proceeding fine, when midway through the process it encountered a huge error and I was forced to "erase and install" the OS. My HD did not even come up as it was any longer. And, to top that off, it took 3 attempts at erasing and installing, because it kept snagging on something. I then had to restore my other files and apps from a backup, to my spare hard drive, and copy each of what I needed. All the graphics software had to be re-installed due to their anti-copying security features. What a pain in the @$$!!! Now, the G4 I put it on also had to be wiped and re-installed after a supposedly "successful" installation, because the spinning rainbow wheel of death appeared after I logged in, and would not stop. Any attempts at disk repair using Apple's own, or even TechTool Pro did nothing, and the permissions couldn't be repaired on either machine. Once I finally got everything working, after a day's worth of work, the new OS is very nice. I am not completely optimistic though. I have seen problems like this with Windows and PC's, but not for years on a Mac ( I do remember the bombs, error codes and death tunes the old OS and Macs used to make). Let's hope Apple fixes this, because I'm not upgrading my home machines until they do. OS itself is great, but the INSTALL is horrible!

    I'm so sorry for you. You've only had one problem that frustrated you enough to come to Apple's forums? You're lucky, as far as I'm concerned.
    Leopard is not perfect by any means, I've had a few problems with it myself, but your post doesn't help anybody. Not even yourself. It's just venting and it doesn't belong here.
    As far as the graphics software goes, that doesn't sound like Apple's fault to me.
    I'm sure Apple will fix all the problems. Please just don't post any more stuff like this. It really doesn't help anybody.
