Zen V JOYSTICK PROBLEM

Bought my teenage daughter a Zen V for Christmas 2006. Seemed like a good deal for the money?since this was her first experience with an mp3 player, but now I seriously?question if?perhaps?I should have spent a little bit more?money for a better quality product!!?Had problems right out of the package with the unit I got her for Christmas,?kept getting "no device detected" errors. After hours of frustration,?I gave up and returned it for an exact exchange the day after Christmas. The new Zen V has worked fine.....up until today.
Two days ago the plastic joystick "button" developed a crack across the middle of it and has?now completely broken into pieces that are lodged under the orange ring!!? Has this happened to anyone else??First thought would be that excessi've pressure or abuse caused the crack, but knowing my daughter, that would be?very unlikely. She was so excited to finally get an mp3 player that?I've observed her taking great care?of it. Just curious?if?this is a common problem?due to?poor?design/quality? If so, I will most likely?purchase another brand before I go through the headache of having it repaired/replaced.

I was told by Creative customer support that there would be a $25 diagnostic fee (even though one can see by glancing at the front of it what is wrong). And then it would not be covered under warrantee if it was "external damage."? Well, the joystick is obviously external. So maybe they would fix it, but my guess is that they'd charge me more than the cost of a new MP3 player to diagnose and fix it. What are you going to do about your broken joystick? Have you sent the player to Creative? Did they fix it's?If I could only find the tip that popped off, I?could just glue it back on.
The joystick problem seems to be a common one. I was really gentle with my Zen V. My suspicion is that some of the joystick tips just don't get glued on adequately -- and my advice to new owners would be to be a bit rough with the joystick at first to find out if they have a bum one before it is too late to return it to the store if they do. I only used the Zen V for a month, but I owned it for three?months, so returning it to the vendor probably isn't an option.

"Creative Zen loading music problem?I just started using a creative zen (DVP-FL000, 6Gb) player and i'm having?a few issues copying music onto it.
I have loaded the latest firmware (.2.03e) onto it and formatted it so was clean when i started loading my music on.
I'm using winamp on winxp to copy my music to the player, but occasionally i get tracks that wont copy to the player. Winamp just shows 'unspecified error'. If a file fails to copy it will never copy, no matter how many times i try. Somtimes its a random track, sometimes an entire album.
So i also tried copying the tracks that wont copy using windows explorer, it appears to copy but the file never appears on the device. The same is also true when i try it on my Windows7 laptop with explorer, it will appear to be copying but then part way through it will report that the device has stopped responding.
It only seems to happen with windows media files, all my mp3s copy fine. The files that dont copy probably represent about 0% of my music but play fine on all my other players.
sorry for the long post, just really scratching my head with this one!
    anyone have any ideas?

did a 'clean up' in the recovery menu, no problems transferring tracks since

  • ZEN 4GB Major Problem/Completely Unresponsi

Okay, I got the ZEN 4GB for Christmas 2007 from my aunt. She bought it at WalMart.
Anyways, it worked fine for a couple weeks, I had a firmware problem that I resolved but it worked fine after that.
Since about February, it had been cutting off the audio and turning to an all-white screen. It does this maybe once a week. Well, I just dealt with it until a week ago when it went to the white screen ten times in a row! I reset it like I normally did and when I got?home?I hooked it up to my computer and let it charge (the battery had gone down only one notch) while I put some stuff on and took some off. I noticed it wasn't charging very well, and then it stopped communicating with the computer at all. Black screen; won't turn on; nothing. IT IS DEAD! Somebody help me!
It doesn't light up at all (the screen stays black) when I plug it up to the computer.

Looks like you have a faulty Zen - Contact Creative.
This is my canned statement: There could be a million things that could go wrong with your Zen player so you will not be the FIRST or LAST to have a problem. Keep in mind, there are many, many others that have a Zen with no problems whatsoever. Things happen, but Creative is there to help. Contact them!

  • Zen Vision:M Problem (Firmware + Recovery Mode) (please un-sti

(apologies on the sticky, i misclicked!)
I've had my Zen Vision:M 30GB for over a year now, and I absolutely love it! Unfortunately, while on my New Years vacation this past week I accidentally dropped it after it tangled in my headphones. Immediately afterwards, I started getting the "recovery mode" problem that seems to crop up. Unable to get past this(it booted only once every million-or-so tries), I decided to use the "MP3 recovery tool" from Creative's site
Unfortunately, it froze up halfway through, and now is giving me a "Hard Disk error". I tried to reformat, and it seemed to wipe it clean...but now it wont even recognize it when I plug it into my USB port to put in new firmware! (The PC recognizes it, but not the Firmware installation)
    I don't know what else I can do....any ideas/help, please?
(I looked at Creative's support pages, but they only deal with Warranty repairs, which I don't have as it was a gift.) Can they repair/replace a broken non-warranty player, and if so, for how much?
Or is there another solution I haven't tried yet?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

  • Creative Zen Micro 6GB/Problems with Power Switch and Firmw

The power switch on my Zen Micro has died. I can't turn it on or off unless I 'jump start' it from a USB cable and leave it alone to go into idle shutdown. I've had this player just three weeks and this is happened and frankly I'm disgusted. But wait, my story get's worse:
So before sending it back to Creative I thought that I should at least exhaust every possible cure. First on my list? A Firmware upgrade to v2.22.05. I downloaded the program and set about installing the new firmware but halfway through the process it hung and I had to end it prematurely. Now what I had was a ZM that apparently had v2.22.05 but was not being recognised at all by my computer. Media Explorer wasn't picking up on it and neither was WMP although strangely when I connect the device it's there in the Device Manager...
So, check back with the website and it said to download an update for Mediasource and that should solve the problem. Downloaded the patch but then realised that I hadn't installed Mediasource on my computer (can't remember why I didn't though). Went back to the downloads page and downloaded Mediasource. Tried to install it but I can't. The reason? because my computer isn't detecting the ZM and I can't install it until it recognises that it's there.
As a last resort I thought that I would try to use 'Rescue Mode'. Seemed simple enough, remove the battery and hold down the power switch. Then put the battery back in and wait for the rescue screen to come up. Seems easy enough. Oh wait, I don't have a working power switch.
What I do have though, is a small piece of plastic and metal that I can't turn on, can't turn off, can't put any songs on, can't listen to, can't fix and can't be bothered with. I have a ?60 paperweight.
Anyone at all have any idea what I should do? I just want to put it all in a box and send it back to Amazon with a request for a full refund or a threat to take them to the Small Claims Court.

Although a failed power switch is not unknown, I only recall seeing two or three other cases of this. It's not common.
If WMP isn't working with the device having v2 firmware something is wrong. Unfortunately this can be difficult to fix, but take a look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.
MediaSource won't detect the player if there's some issue e.g. WMP0 not detecting it. You can of course also try installing Zen Micro Media Explorer (Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update to be specific) which has MTP support.
Are you are presumably under guarantee, and as you bought from an Internet store, it's best to return it direct to Creative. Contact Creative Support to arrange this.

  • Zen Style M300 problem lock button

    Hi,
I have my new Zen Style M300 with a problem. The lock button is not working. If I move the button to the right position the device is not blocked, so if I touch any other button (an arrow...) it is possible to modify the music, radio or wathever.
Another question is about the "idle shutdown" feature. I think is not working as a sleep feature, I mean, I would like to listen to?the radio at nigth and enable the sleep mode to shutdown the device in 30 minutes (for example). That's something not possible to do with de idle shutdown.
I know a lot of creative mp3 players have this feature, but the M300 device.
    Thanks and regards

    &Hi,
Sounds like something's wrong with the power switch, you might want to check with the place of purchase or contact Customer Support. In order for idle shutdown to happen, there must be no activity on the player.

  • Zen Vision M problem (30

My mp3 was working fine, could ocnnect no problems and put videos and music on it ect, then all of the sudden one day i turned it on and it told me i had to rebuild it, i didn't think much of it cause this had occasionally happened to me before..i let it rebuild and i went to look for a specific song and it was gone, i looked for other recent songs i had added from the same artist and cd and they were gone too, along with some other songs. everytime i turned it on from there i got a rebuilding thing, then i tried to watcha? video about a week later and in my list of videos it said thata ll my folders had 0 files in it, but when i went to system info, it said i still had like 25 gigs or so of space taken up from all the videos, but it still had the oflders and info, but no video. when i connect my mp3 player to my PC, it days it is docked and connected, it charges, but my PC will not recognice it. i tried it on my other computer too which i installed the software on when i got it and it would not connect there either. basicly i cant connect my player to add new music/videos, all my videos are what seems to be corrupt, music randomly gets deleted, and i have to "rebuild" everytime i turn on my player. i tried the recovery program today but that too would not detect my player, and people told me when you hold down the reset button you can go into a recovery mode or something and that does not work either...what should i do? is there a way to fix this? or am i screwed and i just need to go get an ipod or something?

    anyone can to help me?

  • Zen Vision:M Problem, Not being recognised by computer tried everyth

My player used to be able to connect fine to my computer however now it doesnt recognise it at all. Windows media player is installed, I tried all 6 USB ports with no success and it doesn't appear in device manager. I have also tried on a different computer with th same results. This has only started happening recently. When I attempt to plug the player in it turns the player on, then turns itself off after the idle time kicks in. I tried fully reformatting the player, it still doesnt work and now i am left with an mp3 player without any songs on which I cant put any songs on. I have already tried emailing customer support but the page appears to be broken. I am getting mighty fed up with this as I don't have the money to fund a new mp3 player.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Cheers,

  • Zen Vision M Problem: Black Scr

Whenever I turn on my player I see the 'Creative'
and 'ZEN' splash screens but then the screens
disappear and the monitor is black. It's not pitch
black as it would be if the player was off, but
it's a blank screen and somewhat illuminated. The
blue button lights are also on as well as the
indicator light behind the power switch. The
player is stuck here and will not progress any
further nor will it turn off.
Upon resetting the player and entering recovery
mode I attempted the usual solutions to problems.
I tried formatting, cleaning and rebooting the
device and all of these yielded the same results.
I then consulted online support and downloaded the
appropriate firmware and tried to reload the
firmware. I erased it from my player and then
tried to load it but at the step where the player
is rebooted in order for the process to be
complete I end up with the same problem. The
player freezes in the startup process and the
firmware can never be fully loaded. I've tried
using other computers but the problem is
definitely within the player and not with any
    computer.
I've tried the Creative Player Recovery Tool to no
avail. I get this: 'Cannot contact firmware
download site. This program will now exit.'
The player has never been damaged and has
undergone only normal wear and tear in the 4
months I have had it. My player is
past it's warranty but I'm not looking for a
replacement, I'm only curious if there is anything
I could do to fix this problem and extend the life
of my device. Thanks!Message Edited by Nediak on 08-6-200704:25 PM

Problem apparently solved: Last night, I downloaded and installed the free program, SUPER. My husband has not had a problem so far; been working beautifully! Ravenquille

  • Zen Vision M problem, album art is not showing

I am embedding the album art into the ID3v2 tags, as i assumed that it would show up when browsing my albums. But the art is not showing up and i have no idea why.
I had another problem which seems that my Zen is reading ID3v tags, a lot of my music was not being recognised, even with v2 tags, and was only recognised when i filled in the v tags also. Does anyone have suggestions as to whats going on here? It is a Zen Vision M 30gb, with the latest firmware, and i use Tag & Rename to edit tags and add the art, Im also on Vista if that changes anything.
Thanks in advance.Message Edited by Ninjabachelor on 0-28-20070:20 PM

    Hi Boxy !
For now, you can't zoom in the Album Art, but it can be a new feature on a future firmware. To hack it somehow, you have to mess around the system folder which is inaccessible...

  • ZEN Vision:M problem selecting from the men

Just like the title says, I'm having trouble accessing any of the menus(photos, videos, extras, etc..) from the menu on my ZEN Vision:M. I've tried pressing the touchpad to select a menu option but no luck, I've also tried just pressing the "right" button to enter a sub menu but no luck. I can scroll up and down in the menu and if a song is playing I can also adjust the volume but its like i have no option to select. I downloaded the newest version of firmware by my model, I've tried formating the player but still stuck with the same problem.
Also, when in recovery mode I cant select any of the options listed in the menu.
I just bought this Device from DELL.com w/ Extended Service Protection but Im beginning to think I got a defecti've product.
If anyone could help with this frustration it'd be great
    Thanks for reading.

I just contacted Dell and I'm returning for a refund. After several more attempts to try and reboot, relaod firmware to try and solve any problem with it I decided to call it quits and just chalk it up to a PoS mp3 player. I have had a 20g Samsung player for 3 years now and have had no problem with it at all. The only thing is that its not compatible with subscription services such as Napster to Go. I think I will look into a new Samsung or something else.
    Good Luck

  • Zen vision M problem wont work/turn on please h

Hi, I bought my dad an early christmas gift of a Zen vision M 20gb black mp3 player. I was using my zen micro mp3 charger to charge it because it was compatable so it was charging up the unit. After about 2 hrs i decided to turn on the unit and look at the functions of it. It played music and picture fine, but then i went to the video function and clicked play on the unit. The screen went black, and the battery bar in the top right corner dissapeared. The clicking sound from the scroll wheel was still working but nothing else was working. We tried turning it off from the swith up top but that didnt work, then we tried using the reset button thingy at the bottom and still no luck. What is the problem if anyone knows thanks for your information and input. The software wasnt installed on the computer or registered yet if that means anything.

I just got the Zen Version:M 30 GB for Christmas and after charging the thing for 6 hours, I seem to be having the same issue that a lot of folks are having ?It doesn?t seem to work when unplugging the device from the A/C charger?. I noticed that the device wasn?t charging and on the unit it was displaying an ?A/C plug? icon (means that the unit is fully charged and running of AC power) and not the ?battery / lightning bolt? icon as it should when charging.
    The Fix:
Upgrade the device?s firmware. I was running ver. .0.xx (shipped with this version). After downloading the updated firmware for my Zen M to the latest version (.6.0), my device started to charge. I now see a battery / lightning bolt icon indicating that the device is now charging.
    Firmware can be downloaded at:

  • Zen Vision M Problem

    Hi there,
I bought a Zen Vision?M 30gb a few years ago and since then i havent used it for a while. When i came round to using it again it wouldnt charge via mains/usb. It would only start up when the mains was plugged into it and i had like a charger sign at the top right of the screen. I left it charging for the night via mains but still no charge. I looked up on the internet and i had to update the firmware but when i installed a new up to date firmware, it keep saying update failed. In the end i got the mp3 player in recovery mode and i formatted the hard dri've, clean up and also did reload firmware which was a big mistake. Now my computer (vista 32 bit) doesnt seem to recognize it, so i cant install a new firmware and the battery would still not charge.
    I hope someone can help.
