Zen V:M 60 GB- solution to Zen not recognized by pc and not charg

Problem:? Zen V:M 60GB not being recognized or charged by my PC. After the initial install, I thought?I had done everything right, so I left the Zen connected to the USB port to fully charge overnight. I went to turn it on the next morning but the Zen was?unresponsi've and would not turn on, eventhough the blue LED light near the power button was flashing. I immediatley uninstalled then reinstalled the software, same results. I then hit the Creative site and tried all of their fixes, but nothing worked. Email support was redundant and forget about Creative's phone support, with their inconvenient times, that needs to be addressed, come on Creative?it's called?"outsourcing". So I was left to fend for myself.
Solution:? Connect the Zen to the PC and Insert the installation CD. Only select the Zen Vision M software from the list of "software to be installed", uncheck the others, click "next" and STOP what you're doing!. At this point, patience is required. Wait until the Zen battery icon pops up on the Zen screen and/or until the Zen turns on. The window of opportunity is small at this point, so immediately start the software install. If you have the software installed already, then select the "Repair" option. If this is a complete reinstall then proceed with the installation as directed.
In a nutshell, the Zen has to have some power in order for the software and pc?to recognize the player. What we all did was, after receiving the Zen for Xmas, we all turned it on and started?messing with the player and then the battery died before installing. Hopefully this resolves your problem. Good luck!

Well after resetting the thing for the 0th time it seems to be ok. Although I don't know why the first 9 were any different. If it continues to work then disregard this thread. If not I'll post it with any follow-up problems.

  • ZEN not charging / screen not turning o

Hi , I recently just picked up the ZEN 2gb Creative MP3 Media player. I followed the instructions more or less to the key, with the exception that when I was at my house (not my apartment where I am now) I charged the battery to full. Now when I plug in my MP3 player not only will the USB not seem to register it, but the little battery charging light will come on. I've installed the drivers or whatever as the setup mentions, but now it won't even register the device is connected. I've tried swapping which USB port it's plugged into and none of them are registering it. Is my MP3 player faulty ?

You didn't mention if the player had ever been previously recognized by the computer, but if it has, try going into Windows Device Manager and see if it is listed there. If so, try highlighting that entry and then select the Update Driver option. You won't actually be updating the driver, just select the option to install the drivers that are already on the system. Alternati'vely, you could just delete the entry, disconnect the player, and then reattach it. Both actions will yield the same result and Windows will detect and pair the driver to the player just as if it were being attached for the first time.

  • Zen MIcro:Auto power off and USB charg

i wanna know whether the zen micro has an auto off feature. also, can it be charged via USB?Thanx

When you say auto off, do you mean that it turns off when it's idle? If so, then yes, it does. Otherwise post up more detail and I'm sure someone can answer your question.
The Zen Micro can charge over USB aswell, but remember this will take longer than with the power adapter.

  • A post, Zen Touch Owners might consider and an Open Letter to Creative. L

Creative needs to take some COORPERATE PRIDE as regards one of their products, that until recently was the FLAG SHIP<SPAN> of their hard-dri've based line of D.A.P. s,
By using the Napster-To-Go Subscription Service, I spent the better part of last weekend loading up my Touch 40 GB player with reams of music.<SPAN> At about the 9 GB point on the hard dri've, the seek head would no longer write to the platters and after a time out, stopped with a subsequent TRANSFER ERROR coming up.
    Bummer.
    OK.
I phoned Creative, got an RMA number and shipped it off for a hard-dri've replacement at the least, a totally new unit sent promptly back at the best.
Being bummed out that I probably wouldn?t see a new TOUCH 40 GB returned to me for the most part of two weeks to a month (by some of the reports via this thread), and being that I wanted a FLASH DRIVE so I could use a D.A.P. in places where intelligence dictated that a hard-dri've based player is going to experience hard-dri've shock/abuse (like being on your bicycle, jogging, cross-country skiing, etc?.all forms of outdoor activity) so?being that I did not now have my TOUCH to listen to (I am a music-aholic) I went out on Saturday and purchased an IRIVER T0 GB flash player.
Being this is a Creative board, I won?t go into a RAVE on how good and feature packed this D.A.P. is.<SPAN> Just suffice to say that if you would like a D.A.P. for when being acti've, or as a back-up to the TOUCH 40/20, THIS IS THE PLAYER TO CONSIDER.
Now, amongst features heaped upon features this player has, never mind the FANTASTIC sonic output it puts out in sound fidelity and reams of non-distorted volume (I use a set of BOSE TRI-PORTS that need a setting of 8 on the Zen Touch, but with the Iri'ver T0, I am right now (as I type) listening to Gloria Estefan?s CONGA at a volume setting of 2 out of a possible 30!!!!<SPAN> It is just that good!
Now, what is this post doing on a Creative Forum board?<SPAN>
The answer lays in the next few sentences/thoughts?.
Amongst 2 EQUALIZATION presets, that ALL so differently shape the sound wave (they again, are THAT good, including SRS (WOW) is a CUSTOM EQUALIZATION pad that covers the following frequency ranges:
    50K /200K/ K/ 3K/ 4K/ (adjustable from ?0/+0
It was in using this EQUALIZATION PAD, that is was so totally demonstrated to myself how truly abused we are as Creative Ltd.<SPAN> Customers having all of us, purchased a Zen Touch D.A.P. from this company.<SPAN> I paid $300.00 dollars for my Zen Touch 40 GB and it was deli'vered to me straight out of the package with a DEFECTIVE<SPAN> Custom Equalization feature, that is made defecti've by inferiorly produced Creative code in their Zen Touch Firmware, the very ?heart? of the product, driving and deli'vering all the features(?) on the Zen TOUCH 20/40 GB.
It is one thing to release defecti've code, if the defect was not caught by (hopefully) Creative upon the launch of the product, but with ENOUGH paying customers having made this defect well known and so WELL DOCUMENTED back to Creative Ltd. and in the many MONTHS since the defect was found in the FIRMWARE that dri'ves the TOUCH, and yet, and UNBELIEVABLY so, the defect yet remains (if in fact now even more profound!) in their latest version of the Zen TOUCH firmware!!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, who are now reading this post, ------by having had the extreme PLEASURE in owning a D.A.P. (newly acquired Iri'ver T0) with all features advertised upon the package ***WORKING***, right out of that package, let alone with such amazing performance deli'very, I now declare that I will wait a reasonable (not months any more, BUT ONLY A FEW WEEKS FROM THIS POST DATE) <SPAN> period of time to elapse before I see a FIRMWARE release and/or patch from this company, Creative Ltd., to ***FINALLY*** address this broken Custom Equalization feature ?offered? within the Zen Touch firmware.
Now in having custom set the ranges of frequencies in the Iri'ver T0 to JUST how I like my music----I have to tell you Folks----IT DOES make a TREMENDOUS difference to the sound and your PERSONAL expectations of it!
A Custom Equalization feature is THAT important to have on a sonic device, let alone a fully WORKING ONE, bug free!
    To Creative:----a personal comment:
<SPAN> I have been a loyal customer of yours from the mid 90?s by having purchased EXCLUSIVELY from you, my sound cards, as well as your line of VIDEO CARDS.<SPAN> I have been a most faithful repeat customer having never seen to date your company so delaying/ignoring the defecti've broken issues from one of your FLAG SHIP sonic products.
I spent<SPAN> $79.00<SPAN> (far below the asking price of your Zen Touch product line)<SPAN> last Saturday on an Iri'ver T0 GB flash player that (with obvious pride of manufacture from Iri'ver Ltd.) works as advertised, works with the present FIRMWARE installed in the device at the TIME OF PURCHASE and PRODUCT RELEASE, and has earned my respect in putting out such a feature-rich product and with obviously, such Cooperate Pride.
Creative Ltd, if you do not put human resources immediately on releasing a patch that brings the Zen Touch FIRMWARE to a bug-free condition that it should have been when having been released with the product launch, I will consider no longer you as the stalwart CREATIVE company of old, that once DID HAVE SUCH COOPERATE PRIDE in any and all models of hardware they produced or sent out with their name upon it.
I will no longer purchase from your company, fearing that as I hold the product in my hands at the store, the features that I am there to purchase will NOT be deli'vered ?out of the box? due to inferior workmanship in materials, in SOFTWARE CODING, and a lack of Quality Control that dictates nothing leaves the plant until the Chief Technology Officer and his staff can sign off on that product?s quality and being fit for release to the Consumer and potential Customer.
I hope that the Moderator of this forum sends this post to whomever it will have cause to see the crippled firmware inside the Touch finally be brought up to quality standards that was the mandate of the Creative Ltd. of past years.
If this post has to reach the desk of the C.E.O of CREATIVE Ltd., then let it be sent there!
Creative Ltd, you are losing Customers hand-over-fist that won?t bother to sit down and type out/compose this letter/post, but will merely resolve to NEVER AGAIN look at, let alone buy one of your present, or future products.<SPAN> Nobody likes to have a ?broken and crippled? product---RIGHT OUT OF THE PACKAGE!<SPAN> Nobody should have to experience that when hard-earned money is being exchanged for it!
A present Creative Ltd. financial supporter,

I wrote the following e-mail to Creative Support today. If they can't respond to a polite, reasoned e-mail like this then I will never buy another Creative product again!
I will post again when Creative respond to me, with a bit (well, more than a bit, more like a billion tonnes) of luck they will be able to say whether they even PLAN to fix the Custom EQ problem.
    All the best, everyone.
    <E-mail>
    Dear Support,
I recently (0-Nov-05) purchased a Creative Zen Touch 40GB mp3 player, and I am generally very happy with it. The battery life is great, and I was happy with the quality of design and build compared to the (relati'vely) affordable purchase price.
However, my query/complaint concerns the new firmware release for the Zen Touch, version 2.0.05 (MTP support for Zen Touch). I have uploaded the new firmware to my Zen Touch (and also the relevant updates for the Creative software: Media Organiser, Zen Touch Explorer etc), and have experienced no problems in loading this new firmware to my player or my computer.
Generally, I have no problems with the performance of the new firmware: my files transfer easily and quickly between my mp3 player and my computer, and (using Windows XP SP2, and WMPv0) I have experience no compatibility issues, as one would hope.
However, I do take issue with the Custom EQ bug that the new firmware accentuates on the Zen Touch. I am sure that Support has doubtless been contacted by other people regarding this problem, but to summarise, with version 2.0.05 of the firmware installed, usage of the Custom EQ function on the Zen Touch severely impaires the volume of the player, and consequently the enjoyment of myself, the customer.
I would like to ask Support whether Creative plans a 'fix' firmware update to eliminate this bug in the firmware in the near future? I am not concerned with any new features to the player with a future firware 'fix' release (although they would not be unwelcome!), since Creative did not promise any such features in the first place. However, I feel that since Creative advertised the Zen Touch as having a customisable graphic equaliser - from Creative's own press release: "Supporting both WMA and MP3 formats, the Zen Touch deli'vers crystal-clear audio, thanks to a signal to noise ratio of 98dB, which can be customised using the built-in, four-band graphic equalizer with eight equalization presets." - a firmware update should not render an advertised feature of the product effecti'vely useless.
Please could Support acknowledge the disappointment I feel with this fairly fundamental flaw to an official product upgrade, and provide assurances (or take measures to seek assurances from whoever makes decisions upon such issues) that a firmware 'fix' update will be released in the near future?
I end by saying that I have only ever bought Creative mp3 players, and to date I have been happy with the products I have purchased, but if basic product flaws such as the Custom EQ being 'broken' by official firmware updates are allowed to go unaddressed (especially with the fact that this has doubtless come to Creative's attention through Support/the official discussion forums etc) then Creative may lose customers like myself in the future to rival companies.
Thanks for your time, and I await your reply.
    Kind regards,
    Lawrie Ward

  • ZEN MICRO won't hold it's charge!!!!!!!!!!

I have owned a 5GB Zen Micro for about 3 years. Up until about 4 months ago I had no problem with the unit holding it's charge for several hours. Now I can't get it to last for more than 0-5 minutes when using the FM radio. By that time the battery indicator shows hardly any charge left and then it does dead. Any [email protected]

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I had considered the possibility that the battery may indeed be at the end of it's life. As it turned out I also googled the model and battery name, and came up with a Canadian site that had?them on ?sale and decided that with postage it would be just as cheap as getting it'sdirectly from?the US with higher postage costs and the exchange rate. I love this model so much I hope to keep using it for years to come provided I have no further more costly problems. Despite it's greater thickness compared to similiar models it is a very attracti've looking unit.
The reason I chose?the Zen Micro?in the first place, as opposed to an iPod?was because I could replace the battery if need be, and also for it's FM radio capability. I?did have to have the chip that contains the earphone jack connections replaced last year, as many other owners have also had to do. But it was worth the $60 it cost me.

I had originally planned to buy an iPod back in '04, because everyone else had one, but after I saw? this video I decided to do some more research. I ended up with a 5 Gb Zen Micro in February '05 and wondered why anyone buys an iPod, when a far superior product was available from Creative.
The original battery started? to go about a year and a half ago, so I popped a new one in and kept on enjoying it. I thought that I would finally have to say goodbye to my little friend when I accidentally dropped it onto a tile floor. The dreaded click/whirr...click/whirr...click/whirr... of a dead hard dri've.
I read a few posts on the Say Goodbye to My Little Friend (Zen Micro)? thread and replaced the dead hard dri've with a SanDisk 8Gb? Ultra II Compact Flash card, using the instructions on? this page.
I was so happy to see it boot up aain and once the firmware was loaded, I started filling it up with some of my favourite music. It's nice to have an extra 3 Gb of storage space too!?

  • Zen Micro 2.20.05 and Undocking method

Well I upgraded to 2.20.05 and I am happy to report it is working great and synching great with my Yahoo music subscription! I didn't even lose any songs during the upgrade.
My question is that when I undocked after the upgrade I still got the bad "file rebuilding" screen. I hoped that this v2 upgrade would fix that. I had thought I read that this the file rebuilding too often is not good for the micro?
Is there a special way I should undock (from usb/pc) to prevent that? Was this even an upgrade in the latest v2?

Who has a Zen Micro (5gb) that runs great and wants to keep it that way!

    brcrn wrote:
RBBrittain - Do you do something different than just unplug your micro to not get that file rebuilding screen? ie lock, etc? I get it most of the time when I unplug mine, but not always, but I can never figure out exactly what I've done different when I don't get it.
Does anyone know the "correct" way to undock? Mine never shows up in xp to remove hardware safely so I just end up unplugging it (of course not in the middle of any action)
I don't think I do anything "special" while undocking. I think the biggest thing I do is that I usually let it charge via USB, and after charging it eventually goes into "idle shutdown".
MTP players don't show up in Remove Hardware Safely; generally only removable dri'ves (MSC devices, including MuVo/Zen Nano/Neeon players, plus the Micro in "removable disk" mode) do. With the Micro, you know when it's OK to unplug by looking at the arrows on the Docked screen: Gray (filled) arrows mean don't unplug, while white (unfilled) arrows mean it's OK to unplug.

  • Zen M 30 GB, responds to wall charger but....

loads to a 'zen' background page, silver letters black background, then acts like it goes to switch to another screen, I'd assume a battery charging format since it's a first charge, but freezes on the background with multicolored splotches in horizontal rows
also, does not respond to reset, I've tried several times.

When did you get this player? That should not be happening. Those are signs of a bad motherboard or bad screen. Both could be from using the generic charger.

  • Zen Micro Problem -- Just TRY and figure this one out

So, I never dropped my zen micro, never played soccer with it, never sent it to the moon. It's possible someone else has, and isn't fessing up to it, but all I know is I came home one day to find a non-working Zen Micro.
The symptoms: I can charge batteries, I can make it glow blue by plugging it in. If it's running just off battery it gets to the CREATIVE screen and just stays there until the battery dies. If it's plugged in, it does the same thing but glows blue.. and doesn't die.
I CAN go into recovery mode, but none of the options do anything [well, restart does.. it takes me back to the CREATIVE screen]. The other ones keep formatting and whatnot forever, which is a good indication it just froze as soon as I pressed format.
I also tried to plug it in, and format it off my computer as a removable disk, but unfortunately neither my computer nor my friends is picking up the Zen Micro as a removable disk and placing it on the My Computer tray.
If anyone has any advice, if anyone has seen this type of thing before, etc etc, please share.
    Desperately seeking help,
    Music Anonymous

You'll need to call Creative's support phone line so that they can give you an RMA number for your player. Then, just ship it to the address they tell you.

  • Zen Xtra not charging.

Anyone has this problem? The player works with the AC Adapter, but the battery does not charge at all. Thinking it's the battery, but is there a way to "test" to see if it's the battery for sure?
    Thanks,
    Chuong

    Sorry....found this after posting
My battery refuses to charge, what can I do?
There can be a number of reasons for the battery not charging.
The first and easiest things to try are resetting the player (with the small reset switch) and running a disk cleanup from the Maintenance Menu. If there is any anomalous problem with the Zen hopefully this will solve it.
Make sure that the mains adapter is actually working. Remove the battery from the player (in those players which you can remove it) and connect the mains adapter. If the player powers up then the transformer is functioning correctly.
Failing this, connect the transformer to the wall socket, and the Zen to the transformer. Then turn the wall socket switch on and off several times. The power spike *might* jump the charging circuit. Failing this it might be that the battery has been left uncharged for sometime and therefore the charging circuit does not seem able to charge it. Follow the thread here to the Zen forums for advice on how to "jump start" the battery. Take note of the disclaimers. Also take note of the information above on how to care for your battery.

  • Zen not recognized, no drivers found XP

'Zen not recognized, no drivers found XPA I thought I'd share my recent experience in switching computers since I didn't find this info anywhere on Creative's site. Zen 32MB, Windows XP
    . No drivers found
I vaguely recall having to do this when I bought the thing, but the drivers it needs are wpdusb.sys and wudfrd.sys and the best way to get them is to install Windows Media Player , since that forces Windows to see them. It looks like Creative has made (and posted) separate drivers for newer operating systems that don't use these type of drivers at all.
    2. Unrecognized USB device
In trying to figure out why it couldn't find the drivers, the Zen stopped being recognized at all by any of my computers. A reboot - sticking the paper clip in the reset hole while powering it up - fixed that.

the ipod itself requires no special drivers and only uses the standard USB mass storage drivers
check the USB port you are using to make certain:
    1) it is a high powered USB port
    2) check device manager to make certain the drivers for the USB ports are functioning

Scorpian - thank you for replying.
I have again tried to reset but still unsuccessful. I hold the reset button (on the side of player below volume) in with the end of a paper clip and still no change. My player seems unresponsi've to anything I do. I am at a loss.
It is now 08:5 and the blue power light has been on from 22.00 from last night (since I was first aware of the problem). I was using the player no problems at 20.00.
I am not aware if the player received a knock. I definitely know it was not dropped.
I really am at a loss on this as I am new to the Zen Touch 20GB.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. I suspect you have portions of the digitizer disabled because of the broken screen. (conductors are open)

  • Various problems with Zen Micro, but getting smaller and small

Last night I turned on my Zen Micro and heard Led Zeppelin's All of my Love for about 4 seconds before the micro froze and started buzzing, reminding me of my Nintendo when the cartridge was dirty. So I tried restarting it several times and it continued with the same. I left it for the night, since I was at someone else's house and had not installed the new firmware; I needed to be at my laptop to mess around with it. In the morning, I looked up some stuff and found out how to access the recovery mode, which I did. I did all of the options, the last one being to format the hard dri've. I had already erased the firmware, but I formatted the hard dri've after I plugged it into my USB port and saw that it had been corrupted anyways and it was completely empty. Then, seeing as everything was gone anyways, I took the opportunity to download the firmware updates and install them, or at least attempt to. I got a message saying the battery level was too low, and to charge it before installing the firmware. I took out the battery and it ran on main power while I installed the first firmware. Then, I put the battery back in and installed the second firmware (newest) and it gave me the same error message about the level being too low. I took out the battery again, but this time it just turned off. I didn't quite understand so I just went to sleep and left it charging. I woke up and was able to install the firmware. Then I went to Windows Media and synced my library to the Micro. Bad idea. I don't know if it's the same with any of you, but I don't exactly love all the songs in my music library. It took every audio file I have on my computer and put it on the Micro. So I figured I'd just open MediaSource and do the whole editing thing I did before it got busted. That doesn't work because of course the music under Creative Zen Micro is different from the music under PC Music Library which, until today, were identical. Now. All I want to know is how I can look at the music inside my Micro in the same way I would if it were in my PC Music Library, where I have a scroll bar on the side with all the artists and albums and a list of tracks next to it. I need this because instead of everything being free and looking the same way it would in my downloads folder, everything is now in folders by artist name and it will take me forever to figure out which songs I do and do not want. Still, at least I've got it working now.

It shouldn't be, assuming you synced via WMP the contents of the PC Music Library. Ultimately the contents of the PC Music Library is irrelevant though as don't you want to edit the contents of the player? I'm guessing you're using the v2 firmware which makes this a little harder...

You can't. That's the problem with the v2 firmware. You might want to go back to the . firmware. For the differences in the firmware versions look at the FAQ post.
