ZEN V PLUS - 4 gig - Only Holds 250 songs - Locks

I am able to transfer photos, songs, and videos. I can listen or view them with no
problem. The problem is the # of songs that I could get on the player is not right!
I have the Zen V Plus, 4 gig. I try to transfer songs to the player but it the
transfer progress always stops when there are about 250 songs transfered to the
player. The 250 songs are about 800 mb in size so that should bot be an issue since
the player is 4 gigs.
I have tried to drag and drop, add media, and use the "Fill Up Player" with the same
results.
Around the 250th song, the progress bar % stops moving. I press cancel and nothing
happens. I let the computer take it's time and 40 minutes went by... the bar is still
there with no new %. The problem is the player is still docked.
Since the player is docked and is still in "Transfer Mode" I have to unplug it, go
into recovery mode and "Clean Up".
When the player reboots the Re-Building Library is show with a progress bar. This
stays up and looks like the player is frozen.
I now have to reformat. All of my stuff is gone from the player.
I try to add songs and again... around 250 the progress bar sto
ps.
I used the Zen Media Explorer and Windows Media player to transfer the songs. All
stop around 250!
I have the new firmware installed.
The PC I have is:
Windows XP Media Edition
P-4
2 gigs of ram.
Again, I am able to upload songs, photos, and video and it plays no problem! The
problem here is I can't upload more than 250 songs. The total number of songs I want
to transfer is about 900 and is .2 gigs. The player is 4 gigs and there is a lot of
space when I transfer.
Thanks

Was just curious, was trying to establish whether it is a possibly DRM bug (on licensed) music or some other kind of bug with the unit. I have moved 450 songs total to my daughters Zen V Plus with out a problem, but its all ripped music from her music collection. So was thinking it might be a DRM issue of some kind. (Microsoft has released a ton of patches for DRM issues related to the transfer of music, am in the process of trying to document them all and post it later tommorrow.)?On my daughters Zen V plus I have all here music organized into folders:Artist->album->songI organized them that way on the PC before I copied them over. (MP3 Files, not WMA's)?I don't have a large enough collection of purchased music off the web to do any testing to see if it breaks when trying to transfer DRM protected music.
Could be something like a folder limit for number of files in one folder? Not sure, just trying to throw out ideas to help track down the problem, and help people get it solved.

How exactly do you do this? I checked this out tonight - when I logged onto my PC using my son's Limited User account (XP Home, BTW) I could connect his N200 and see it in Device Manager and Windows Explorer but both Creative pieces of software (CMS and N200 Media Explorer) did not see that it was there!

When I went back to using the current user the error stopped. Perhaps I need to set the Run As.. options on that file as well?
As we don't use DRM'd music this isn't going to be a problem but it would be good to find out the cause of this once and for all.

  • 4 GB 3rd Gen Nano only holds 450 songs...whats up?

A friend of mine just bought a 4 GB iPod nano in June. He keeps on trying to put 1000 songs on it like its supposed to hold. He has an HP that runs Vista.
I've tried clearing it and restoring the songs back on it, reformatting the songs to a smaller bit rate, and upgrading the software, but it still only holds 450 songs. There are no videos, photos, contacts, etc. Only music. I'm at my wit's end. Any other suggestions?

the only thing i could tell you is to do a restore to your ipod, to clear everything off of it, and then convert all of your songs in your library to aac 128kbps. between 320kbps mp3 format and 128kbps aac format, there really isn't much of a difference. there is a slight difference, and i don't see wasting all that room for such a small improvement in sound quality. one other thing is to make sure you aren't syncing videos, pictures, podcasts, and album artwork. if you've done all of that and you are still having space issues on your ipod, i'd take this discussion beyond the forums and have apple look into it. good luck.

  • IPod Nano only holds 75 songs

My iPod Nano will only hold 75 songs. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it? It also skips songs that I've downloaded from iTunes.

    Kind: Protected AAC audio file
    Sizes range from 2.8 - 4.4
    Bitrate is all 128 kbps
    Thanks.
Play one or more in iTunes and you'll get a chance to "authorize".
About the 75 on your nano, do the same File>Get info>Summary on several of them.
Otherwise just restore your nano and that should give you the space back... however if the songs are AIFF or WAV that may be reason for it only holds 75. Those encodings take LOTS of space.

  • Why does my 4GB mini only hold 210 songs? How can it hold more?Compression?

My 4 GB ipod mini is now only holding 215 songs and it is supposed to be able to hold around 1,000. I have my importing setting set to MP3, 128 bp which I think is supposed to be the best if I want to increase the number of songs....but its not working. Any way to change this? Should I compress using something else?
    Thank you for any info!

It's probably because you have the import settings and bitrate set wrong. Look in iTunes under edit/preferences/importing. What does it say in settings and import using? You need to compress your music using either mp3 or aac. If you see AIFF, WAV or Apple Lossless then those formats are going to take way more space than mp3 or aac, especially the first 2 which are raw uncompressed formats. Bear in mind that Apple quotes the number of songs you are able to store on any iPod by using aac at 128kbps for a 4 minute song.

See this article.

About import settings and hard disk space.
Do not use Apple lossless either. This will typically produce a file size much larger than mp3 or aac.
And don't let anyone tell you what to use. Try both mp3 and aac, and you decide what's best. After all, they're your ears!

  • I have ipod touch 5 32gb but it only holds 1700 songs. Why not more?

I thought 32 GB holds 7000 songs. MIne says it is 85% full at 1800 songs. I ony have about 4GB left. Have nothing other than music on it. However it says 'other' when you sync it. Why??

What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
A 32 Gb iPod should hold about
    7,000 songs in 128-Kbps AAC format3
That is a compressed format. you can compress them by in the Summary pane for the iPod in iTunes check the box that says convert higher bitrate songs to XX kps ACC. XX=128 is a good compromise of quality and compression

  • New 60G IPOD will only hold 4000 songs HELP

I just got my husband a new 60G IPod Photo and am trying to load songs for him. After only 4,000 songs, it says the IPOD is full. What am I doing wrong? I am trying to transfer about 13,000 songs - and on my computer harddrive, they only use a total of 52G - and I am getting really frustrated and confused. Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If in iTunes it says the songs total up to 52GB then try restoring your iPod...

    And then resync.

  • IPod nano only holds 22 songs

New user - I put some songs I already had on my computer on the nano - it only held 22 songs - I know it is due to the format AIF - can I now convert to AAC or MP3? How? I transferred to iBook G4 with iTunes - tho't it converted to AAC by default - I need more than 22 songs on the nano. Do I have to redo from CD? Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Yes, you will need to convert your music to AAc or MP3 (both are compatible on an iPod).
See these two links about your kind of situation, and see if they help:

My song files are too big for my small iPod
Or, it could be an issue that you iPod has "fake" spaced that isn't truly used. Try restoring your iPod through the iPod Updater (go ahead and try this first):

  • HELP MY NANO IS ONLY HOLDING 100 SONGS!

Hey, i was just trying to put some music on my nano, i had 117 songs on it, i tryed to put 1 on and it said it was full, i looked at the bottom of the screen on itunes and it said i had filled it up!, so i deleted all my songs and it still said that 1.6gb was on it, what the **** is happening?

Lol. A similar thing happened to me when I first got mine. First I had 14 songs and it said I had 1.3 GB left. I deleted all my songs and it still said I had 1.3 GB left, lol. Now heres the trick I used to restore all my space, even though you'll have to re-upload all your songs. Just go to the ipod updater in start menu and click on the ipod update option. Then follow the process and click on "restore to factory condition". If it says ipod cannot lock, first exit all ipod applications, restart the ipod by holding the menu and middle button. Then put on hold if you like, and keep trying to restore till it works. That should fix the problem.

  • My ipod only holds 200 songs when it should hold 2000

Everytime I try to put all my music from my itunes library onto my ipod, it says there isn't enough free space. I looked at how much free space I have compared to how many songs I have. Only 349 MB has audio, Other takes up 2.54 GB. Does anyone know what the OTHER could possibly be? I didn't put any pictures or anything on my ipod. I'm just really confused and i would really appreciate it if anyone can help me. Thank you!

You can try adding the music manually. This article tells you how:

  • Why is my nano 7th generation only holds 600 songs

My new ipodnano 7th generation is almost full and has only 600 songs in itunes. Why?

Right click on one of the songs in iTunes, go to Get Info, and tell us what format the song is in and what size (in MB) it is.

  • Nano 2gb only holds 206 songs not 500 songs

just opened new Nano 2 Gb and will not hold more than 206 songs not the 500 as advertised

Chances are the songs that you have downloaded to your Ipod are larger than the standard that Apple uses which is 128kbps. I personally think 128kbps sounds like crap, so all my songs are at least 192kbps. In Itunes, go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Importing. Change "Setting:" to "High Quality 128kbps." Then the next time you rip an album to your Ipod it will be more compressed.

  • 1GB Nano only holds 38 Songs????

Each of my songs are between 3 adn 5 megs. How can I make these files smaller through itunes?

To make the song file smaller:
    Click Edit > Preferences
    Click the Advanced tab
Click the Importing tab beneath it
Set it to AAC encoder at 128 kbps
    Click OK
Select all of the songs that are not iTMS purchases
Click Advanced > Convert to AAC
Please note that this will actually create a duplicate of each song, so you will need to go back and delete the originals.
It is also recommended to restore the iPod in this situation:
