Zen V Plus freeze on file trans

To whom it may concern,?I'd like to preface this post by stating that I'm very experienced with computers (I build?systems for a living). I've tried my brand new Zen V Plus on 3 different computers and am experiencing random freezes on each one. My family has?2 iPods, a Dell player, an iRi'ver and a Disney Mix Max between us. I have never had ANY problems uploading and synching with any of these players. I've also plugged-n-played several of my friends players -- never a problem.
I just spent 4 days (about 20 hours) trying to get my Zen to not freeze. I have?tried?EVERY suggestion on?ALL the forums and Creative's troubleshooting pages. I also have a bunch of my own?diagnosing tricks?up my sleeve. When my Zen freezes, I can only access the player by formatting. When I reload my files, it randomly shuts off, and freezes when it tries to re-build the library after a reset. To say I'm dissapointed is an understatement. I did a lot of research and the Zen seemed like the perfect player for me. It hurts to post this, but I hope future owners having these problems will read this and realize not to waste their time. Sincerely,a future former Zen V Plus owner?

Hi jimmyboy88,? I am familiar with the reset hole.
Is Creative aware that you are posting a link on your site that suggests users disassemble their players and void their warranties? As a professional troubleshooter, this is unacceptable. After resetting, my player freezes when trying to re-build the library. According to Creative's support pages, this would suggest corrupt data. Only after I reformat, I'll try to re-load the file that it froze on and it will load and play fine. It will freeze randomly on any file. And why do my files load perfectly on 4 other players and 3 other computers?I've upgraded the firmware, made sure I have all the WinXP updates, Creative software updates, tried 0 different USB ports among 3 computers, made all the suggested operating system tweaks, tried 4 different USB cables,? and ran some USB port diagnosing software. The fact is, the Zen V plus will randomly freeze. Sometimes it freezes at 2GB, sometimes at 2 MB of data. Once the Zen freezes, I reset, and it will hang on re-building the library every time. In recovery mode, the player will hang when I try to Clean. After I re-format, I'm able to gain access again and load files, but it freezes every time I try to load it up again. I have many years experience troubleshooting hardware & software. In my professional business, I would never?spend so much time on one unit. My only conclusion is that it is a firmware problem. I would take a look at the code and see what the problem is, but I'm not on Creative's payroll. On a more positi've note, the Zen V Plus looks like it would make a nice doorstop.

  • Zen V Plus Freezes on purchased songs o

i purchased a number of songs from best buy digital music store and loaded it to the MP3 player. When I play the song and then try to usethe joystick to navigate backwards the mp3 player freezes. I have to reset the player each time. This only happens to songs that I purchased all other non purchased songs this does not happen to. Does anyone have any ideas on what is happening.
    Thanks

I'm not as technical as everyone else seems to be but I was having trouble with my Zen V Plus freezing up also -- so much so that I was beginning to think that they should have included a stylus like on PDA's just so the reset button could be depressed without searching around for a small paperclip. The freezing started about 0 min after I first started listening to it ? Anyway, I did go into the recovery mode and cleaned up the files and rebooted the thing and so far (2 hours later) it hasn't frozen up yet which is the longest it has gone without freezing..... I haven't been skipping any tracks and it is no longer on random/shuffle play either. So basically I am not sure if it helped at all.........just wanted to post. :smileyvery-happy:

  • Zen V Plus freezing!! during file trans

    Hi everybody.
i have a Zen V Plus GB and since i bought it (few months ago) i have the problem that the player just freeze during (big) file transfers. it happens more likely when i transfer files over 400-500mb to the player at once. but it also appears when transfering files one and one.
after it freezes i just unplug the usb cable and i have to reset the player and select Format All and Clean Up (recovery mode) to bring the player to life again.
i have send the player 2 times !! to the creative RMA and they just send it back to me (i received today) with an explanation that NO FAULT WAS FOUND but when i try to reproduce the fault IS there. the same problem over and over again.
i also tested the player on other computers as well as on other usb cables and other operating systems but the problem remains.
firmware is the newest, didnt make any difference..
Please help me!? What can i do?!

This is the same thing that has been happening to my Zen V Plus 4GB player. It is now in the hands of Creative repair for the second time. I only have a few more days of warranty left and I hope that this time when it gets back to me it is fixed. I did insist that they send me a prepaid shipping label for the second trip into the repair shop and I was firm in my request to either give me another player or replace the insides of the one I have. This time they have had the Zen V plus for two weeks and I have tried calling, with no luck. The automated site for RMA's hasn't been much help. We can't be the only ones with this problem and I hope that there will be an updated firmware somewhere down the line. I do own four other Zen V Plus 2GB players and haven't had any problems with them.
    Best wishes to you.

  • ZEN NANO PLUS freezing my compu

i've had the nano plus for a few months now and just recently i connected it to my usb dri've and when i was loading songs on to it, my computer froze and i had to restart it... which led to the whole "don't disconnect without clicking the safe to remove hardware button" thing, which i couldn't click because as i said, my computer was frozen. now, everytime i try to download songs on to it, any program to do with the nano freezes. i tried the customer support link and there was no phone number to call listed... HELP!!!

    Hello,
Probably you have the same problem like me:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=797
the flash memory inside the player is corrupted after a write operation wasn't completed...
Then, I think the Zen nano hangs because the file system is corrupted and windows hangs because is not a stable os...
Is not a great problem, this happens also with PC disks, the solution is to repair it using the scandisk utility...
unfortunately it seems I cant use scandisk nor format my Zen...
Wich o.s. do you have? Win98 or XP?
And wich drivers for windows?(if you have some)

  • Zen Nano Plus -- "Cannot create file .

Why not?! I've been transferring & deleting songs since I bought the Zen Nano Plus and now all of a sudden, I can't place songs into it. Help please.

Have you put all of your files into the root folder?
If so, create a sub-folder and put your files in there. Then you will be able to fill up the player.
If not, have you tried reloading the firmware?

  • Zen V Plus freezing on "Zen" scr

Hi all,I can't get past the initial screen that says "Zen V Plus". I can reset it but it comes back to the same thing. Any suggestions?I'm a Zen noob. ThanksGary

    Hi Gary,
Can you try accessing the Recovery Mode on that player? If you can get into that menu, try the Clean Up first to see if that hel
    ps.
Otherwise you could try the Format, but note that will format the player so all content will be removed during that process. Try that after the Clean Up, as that might solve the problem without removing your music.

  • Zen nano plus freezes at start someti

it stops when it says creative, no buttons work, i take battery up, doesnt always fix problem, eventually it starts tho....only week old

I had the same problem in the few months before my 4 year old Zen nano plus died completely yesterday. Generally, attaching it to your computer and formatting it should do the trick. If not, download the firmware update from the main site under technical support and follow the instructions.
If it still doesn't work, I believe that it has a 90-day warrenty since its quite an old model. Hope you can get it to work!

  • Zen V Plus freezes after turning on, despite resett

I've had my Zen V for about 2 years now. It broke down 6 months after i bought it, i gave up on it and got another Mp3 player sometime afterwards, which is guess what, the Creative Zen, which died as well (i resurrected it using the keep-on-resetting method).
Anyway my Zen V turns on, and freezes. They screen forever shows Rihanna's Unfaithful and no matter what I press, nothing will happenk, until I reset it. Then it turns on and same thing repeats.
    Help anyone? ?

    Hi Srslyvplus,
    Have you tried Clean Up?

  • ZEN V PLUS will only hold 100 WMA files - HE

New user - using ZEN V Plus 2GB with Napster to Go. This device should hold 000 songs. Files are WMA. Keep getting error message that device is full. There is nothing else on the player (have removed all video and photos). Why is it only holding 00 4-min songs? Seems like a setting is off somewhere - I am only using /0 of the available space. Any help is greatly appreciated! Also, is there a phone number for customer suppor? Don't see it on the website, instructions, or the box the unit came in. Thanks - FRUSTRATED in Atlanta!

In WMP the Now Playing or the Library window on the right drag what you want to that & side the small tab in that window (now playing) click on the tab to Save as playlist (give it a name) on the library side(if using that pane)same thing except it will say untitled give it a name. In the sync tab you can do the same or on the left side at the top it says playlist you can click on the playlist name (if you've named them) & connect device to sync.Message Edited by coachop94 on 0-25-2008 2:3 PM

  • Zen V Plus - File Format - USB Connect

Have a car radio that accepts a USB direct connection - but it reads only FAT32 files
any idea oh how I can get me Zen to this file format

You can't get the media content from a Zen V Plus as FAT32. It uses MTP to transfer content, not UMS (i.e. it doesn't look like a memory stick to your car HiFi).

  • Zen V Plus Music Trans

Hi! I am just wondering if I am charging my Zen V Plus for the st time just for a few seconds, can I actually transfer music while it is charging? Please help! Thanks! Message Edited by lorimak on 07-03-200708:53 PM

Actually, something occur when I was installing the Creative Mediasource 5 so no more of that for me cuz the program wouldn't run. Also, my WMP 0 wouldn't sync anymore but I found a tool that is useful in the Zen V Series Media Explorer. What is that? It is the Fill Up Player With Music thing! After I used it, it transferred all the songs that I wanted in my player. Hope this tool will help you too!

  • Zen V Plus no longer functions

My Zen V PlusPlayer just stopped and froze up while playing a wma file. Still showed plenty of battery charge.
Since then player freezes up at opening logo screen. Cannot even turn if off except by using Reset.
Holding other buttons while trying to turn player on makes no difference so cannot do Cleanup, Reformat, etc.
No connection with my computer (Win XP sp3) can be made.
Recovery Tool won't work, says it can't find player.
Player is just past its yr warrenty.
Is there any fix for this, or is the thing just junk now?
    Thanks,
    Alden

maybe you have tried this already, but have you tried resetting it's My zen v plus too had problems but with freezing and resetting was the cure. Hope this helps!

  • Zen Stone Plus not detected by software - GRRRRR

    Hello all
A month ago I bought the Creative Zen Stone Plus.
I was quite happy to go with Creative because I had been the happy owner of a Creative MuVo player for a few years. The MuVo was remarkably straightforward to use. The only problems I experienced were occasionnal freezes of the software during file transfer. Nothing major. I lost count of the number of times I recommended this product to others, usually as a cheaper but just as good alternati've to the iPod.
However, I am beginning to have serious doubts about Creative.
    This is the problem:
    - The player cannot be seen in Creative Media Lite.
    - In Devices Manager, "Creative Zen Stone Plus" appears under devices category "Other devices" and has a yellow question mark next to it.
In other words, I have had the Zen Stone Plus for a month and it has never worked !
From my exchanges with Technical Support (email) and from the knowledge base (eg # 9287,
and 4782) and from this forum, I have tried several things such as
    - deinstalling (actually rolling back) then reinstalling Windows Media Player (to get MTP drivers installed)
    - downloading the Iomega patch
    - I downloaded the player recovery tool (the one with the red button) but when I click on it, I get the message "Player not detected. Do you want to retry"
I found two dead ends in the technical support articles I read:
    - I decided to make changes to the registry, as one article suggested that the problem may be due to USB permissions. So I typed 'regedit' but the compuer would not accept this command.
    - I also decided that I would change the firmware, as another article suggested. How on earth do I do this. I downloaded the firmware for my player but I do not know how to enter the Recovery Mode. It is not clear from the Recovery page (KB ID # 4794) whether my device is 'ZEN' or a 'Zen Series'. I treid the procedure for both and neither worked !
I'm beginning to feel like I've wasted my money. I had been thinking about buying a Creative player for my sister and also a friend. Now I won't bother, even if this problem is solved. I consider myself to be IT literate but how does Creative expect technically illiterate people to cope with its products !
Can anyone help me to make the Zen Stone Plus work? Otherwise, I'll consider it to be a **bleep** Stone and flush it down the toilet, where it belongs.
    Andy

    -. Hello Seb_tokyo,
    Welcome to Creative forums!
When you plug in the ZEN stone, your device manager list should refresh. Besides under USB controllers, did it detect anything when you plug it's You can also try the following:
.) Unplug/replug the USB cable and connect it to the rear USB port instead of using front ports.
2.) If you have another USB cable, try using a different one and see if it works.

  • Creative Zen V Plus - Worth

I paid $03 for this stupid thing. It constantly freezes and my screen is dim, I can barely see it. It was fine when I first bought it. The screen was bright and it played just fine. But now I can barely see my frickin screen and it keeps freezing during some songs and I can't turn it off or reboot it. I just have to let it sit until it decides to unfreeze. So far, this ZEN V Plus was not worth my money and I'm debating on taking it back unless someone can tell me how to fix it.

Dark screen means (almost certainly) hardware fault. Similar thing happened to me. I got a replacement from the retailer & it's been fine since (3 months so far).
The freezing stuff might indicate that the file system is unhappy. Might be fixed by 'Clean Up' or 'Format' (see Recovery Mode sticky above).
Most times you can unfreeze it using the reset switch.
Updating to latest firmware might also help.
But not much use with a knackered screen...
