Zen V Plus: Software barrier against installing US firmware on european devic

Well well... After the "display darkening devil" caught me, I just decided to buy a new player because I need this thing frequently when I'm on the road. Now I've got a Zen V Plus but there is a DIFFERENCE. "Sure, the FM Radio!" True, but there is another one. I was able to use US Firmware (the one without the 'e' at the end) on my Zen V (without PLUS) when the display was still functional. But now I get "Upgrade Failed!" error - so am I right that the PLUS version checks for EU devices and denies installation of US firmware (NB: The US version lets you make the thing a bit louder, because it does not have to comply with brain-dead EU rules system.)

I have a ZVP, and you can change firmware between US/EU/Asia versions. There is no restriction.
In order to remove the EU volume restriction, you have to delete the existing EU firmware before upgrading, otherwise the (e) does not go away. I guess it is stored in a different part of flash which is only cleared when you delete the firmware, rather than just running the upgrade executable file.
***WARNING***
DO NOT delete your firmware unless you can successfully update the firmware without deleting. Try it first and make sure it works BEFORE you delete the firmware. Otherwise you could end up with a ZVP shaped paperweight...
For info on how to delete firmware see the 'Recovery Mode' sticky at the top of the forum.

Hey Guys,Here is a link to instructions on how How to obtain and to install USB 2.0 drivers in Windows XP Service Pack . http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q329632?Win2000 and later have the capability to support USB 2.0, but USB 2.0 was released after XP was release, so there weren't any drivers installed before Windows XP service pack 2. Make sure you've installed all your windows updates including service pack 2. You can check if you have SP2 by right-clicking on my computer and choosing "properties", it will say on the general tab. Also the way to tell if you have USB 2.0 drivers installed is to right-click on my choose "Manage", then choose "device manager" look down to "uni'versal serial Bus controllers" and click on the + . This will expand the USB devices. Look for the word "enchanced" (USB enhanced host controller). If you see it, then you have USB 2.0 support. If not, use the link above and get the drivers. Hi,I've read some people have the same problem I do, but no solutuion. When I try to install the zen nano plus cd that came in the package, it comes up with a window saying : "the windows operating system running on this computer is not supported by this product". The nano plus is supposed to work with windows ME which I have?and I think I meet all the other requirements. Could they have mislabeled a cd?I tried installing it with the antivirus turned off with ca antivirus. Thanks for any help,Joe?

I just went to the page?http://us.creative.com/support/downl...ype=0&x=29&y=6and downloaded the Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 file after filling all the info out in the drop down menus. I just installed it and I was good to go. The only issue I really had was installing the application from the CD which I mentioned earlier. But the application from the website installed with no problem whatsoever. I wish I could tell you something that would help as I know your frustration. Are you sure you downloaded the correct version for ME?You might ask someone if you really need this application to put music on you device because it seems like your device just acts like another dri've and you can just drag and drop into your device. I'm not sure about that so ask st so it doesn't mess up you player.or you might be able to use some other apllication to transfer your files to the player?Good luck and be persistent,JoeMessage Edited by joenanoplus on 2-26-200608:3 AM

  • Zen V Plus - Software Installat

Hello?I bought a new ZEN V Plus Gb and installed the CD programs?on a PC with Windows XP, having no problems. Now a bought a new PC, with Windows XP Media Center 2002 and tried to install the CD programs. Tried this three times and every time the following happened;Installation starts very slowly, then it goes quickly up unti 5% done, slows down again, stops at 6%. At this point it stays for a while and then it locks the whole computer. No commands taken (including ctrl+alt+del). Could it be the Anti-Virus? Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0. What can i do?Thanks.

You don't need any of the Creative SW.
WMP includes support for MTP (Media Transport Protocol) devices like ZVP.
You don't even need to use WMP. Once you've upgraded WMP from 9 to , you can see your ZVP in windows Explorer via My Computer & you can use D'n'D to move stuff to & from it.

  • Zen Stone Plus 4GB - Hiccups / Skipping with new firmware 1.01

I upgraded my recently purchased Zen Stone Plus 4GB to the new .0.05 firmware a few days ago. Ever since, most (if not all) tracks will play for ~ second, then skip back to the beginning and play fine thereafter. The problem will recur when the next track begins, either naturally on its own or if I jump tracks. I did not notice this problem with the prior firmware .0.03 (which had some EQ issues for me--EQ adjustments weren't audible while being performed, only after applied as a whole), but have not been able to downgrade back. More than once, I have tried reformatting (as FAT). I have reinstalled the .0.05 firmware (including in recovery mode). I have tried turning cue/review on and off. Nothing solves the hiccup / skipping?problem. Again, nothing will let me downgrade back to the older firmware, either. Has anyone else noticed this with the .0.05 firmware? I know several people have reported date bugs already (which I noticed too), so I'm hoping it's just Creative still getting firmware kinks ironed out. I'm a?little worried that it appears the player is no longer for sale anywhere, despite being a brand new "release." Most of my mp3's are a high quality variable bit rate, just in case that might be impacting something.

Hi JLM, am running .0.05e fine and in fact listening to it at the moment. Is there anyway you can regress back to .0.03 to test your theory? Testing a bunch of 28k CBR MP3s is an easy thing to try also.Message Edited by BlueRobin on 0-02-200802:49 PM

  • Zen V Plus 2gb - Space prob

    Hello guys,
Saturday I bought a Zen V Plus 2gb and I installed the software, loaded my Zen and tried to fill it with music.
But suddenly (by about 800mb ~ 80 songs) my Zen froze. I used the reset button and tried to fill it again. My 80 songs were still on it. But my computer didn't recognized it anymore. So I formated my Zen and I upgraded it with new firmware.
Then I filled it again - and it froze again at 800mb and my pc couldn't recognize it anymore, too.
I don't think that it is normal. What can I do? My Zen got 2gb free space but I only can use about 2/5 of it because it freezes. There is no notification like "The disc space is full", it just freezes and I have to format my Zen to use it again.
Without formating I can't fill it with my pc or with the pc of my father. So it can't be a problem of a computer. Even the record function doesn't work. Is my Zen damaged, or is it normal that I can use only 800mb of my 2gb Zen?!
I hope that someone could help me and I excuse me for my bad English :-)
    Bye,
    Lumpi

The st?8GB Zen V Plus I?bought also had this same problem. It would allow me to add?only about 7GB of music before it would freeze and even cleaning up the links from the recovery mode menu would cause a freeze. I called Creative and told them I had read that someone else in this message board?wrote about?the same problem - a "faulty" flash dri've. Creative said they hadn't heard about it and recommended that I return it to where I bought it from and simply replace it. That's what I did and my 2nd 8GB V Plus has been working great.

I even tried to modify the system?s registry but it stills not working.
I run W XP Home Edition, and WMP 0.

  • Zen V PLUS, Vista and Sync Mana

Dear staff,i performed a search but i didn't found any answer to my question. I got a Zen V Plus yesterday, and i installed all creative software on my pc. I use Windows Vista. I got a problem. When i connect my ZEN to my pc by USB cable, zen starts to charge, and on display there is "Docked", so it seems to be everything ok.BUT the sync manager system does not find it! And so i can't organize my music using the Zen Media Center! I downloaded all creative software by the site, but Sync Manager doesn't work.Using my brother's pc (with WINDOWS XP) there isn't any problem. I think it's a bit strange that Creative makes software not compatible with Windows Vista!?PS: sorry if i made mistakes writing, i also tried to perform a search in forums, but i didn't find any answer. Thanks, Mat.

The Creative Zen V plus is awesome I have a 2gb because i was short on cash but it still serves its purpose. I only wish that creative had an internet store like itunes where i can buy movies and music but i use windows Media Player and buy my music from itunes. If you know of any good online stores let me know

  • Zen Nano Plus connection problems - SOLVED (1/2/06)

I recently bought the Nano Plus. On first installation everything worked fine. I decided to upgrade to the latest drivers and firmware via downloads from the Creative site. At some point during the firmware upgrade, everything seemed to hang. Eventually I had to halt the process, disconnect the player and reboot.
When I plugged the player back in, it is detected as a USB Mass Storage Device, but Windows Explorer and the Zen Nano Plus Media Explorer both claim that the device is not connected.
Here's what I have done so far:
)Uninstalled all drivers and Creative software, rebooted, reinstalled drivers/software, rebooted. When plugging the player in, a brief window pops up saying Zen Nano Plus has been detected. This is followed by USB Mass Storage Device being detected (this window stays up a lot longer, sometimes more than 5-0 minutes before disappearing).
2)Another uninstall/reinstall, but this time with a registry cleanup in between. Same result.
3)Tried installing installation cd on partner's laptop and plugging in the player. Absolutely everything works fine. So it's not my player. There must be something I still need to do on my desktop to get everything to work again.
4)Have also tried plugging into every USB outlet on the desktop. No change.
    My system:
    Windows XP (sp 2)
    3.2 GHz
    Intel 865 chipset
    2 GB RAM
My Zen Nano Plus is currently running .0.03 firmware (latest).
On this desktop I am running the latest drivers (Creative Mass Storage Drivers .07.00.250)
When the player is plugged in, device manager shows no problems. Under Disk Dri'ves, Creative Zen Nano Plus USB Device is listed (and says the driver is from Microsoft, 7//0, version 5..2535.0). Under USB, USB Mass Storage Device is listed (and says the driver is from Microsoft, 7//0, version 5..2600.0).
I have tried manually updating these drivers to anything listed in the Creative folders upon installation, but it does not detect anything. When I check the drivers listed on the laptop that works with the player, these same driver details show up.
Any advice would be appreciated. I certainly would hate to only use my partner's laptop every time I want to update my music. I am also frustrated and puzzled as to why my player first worked on my desktop and now doesn't.Message Edited by lcvdw on 0-03-2006 2: AMMessage Edited by lcvdw on 0-03-2006 2:2 AM

With your player connected and View, Devices by Connection selected in Device Manager navigate through as follows:
Advanced Config and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
    ->Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
    -->PCI Bus
You should then see a series of USB Host Controllers that you will have to click through in turn to find the one your player is connected to.
Underneath each controller should be a USB Hub, and then devices are listed beneath the hubs.
For my N200 I have USB Mass Storage Device, Creative MuVo N200 USB Device then Generic Volume.
Your entry should be similar but with Zen Nano Plus instead of N200.
While you're there, right-click on the entry for the hub attached to your player and select Properties. On the Power tab it will show how much current the port can supply and in the Attached Devices list it will show how much power the player needs. In my case the hub supplies 500mA and the player needs 00mA.

  • Creative Zen Nano Plus Firmware Problem, AGAIN! (PeeBee HEL

    Hi all,
I am new here and have read all the posts and FAQ's but couldn't solve my problem. Actually there is a post http://forums.creative.com/creativel...d=68923#M07024 which tells exactly my problem. Have tried the solution but didn't solve it.
So I am here asking again.
I bought a zen nano plus GB and downloaded the latest firmware(ZenNanoPlus_PCFW_LF__0_03.exe) and the latest mass storage driver (MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250.exe). When I put the player in recovery mode as the firmware is detecting devices the player takes it self out of recovery mode and back in mass storage mode how do i stop it from down that?
I am trying to update it because my player doesn't play wma files :angry:I have tried PeeBee's solution but it didn't work. I have taken the battery out, reconnected it and it is recognized in recovery mode. I run the firmware and the computer plays a sound, the icon of connection appears in the nano's lcd and it is out of recovery mode. Then firmware program tells me that the 'device state is not set' and after that the message 'put into recovery mode before updating firmware' Aaaaaarrrrrghhhh!
I'm also running windows XP SP2
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you in advance

    Hello-
I had a similar situation develop. Did your error message say, "Media state not initialized?" Here is what the creative support site says:
If you receive a message "Media State is not initialized ..." while updating firmware for a MuVo or Zen Nano Plus player, it will be necessary to install the Player Recovery Device driver and then update the firmware.
. Download the latest driver if you have not done so. You can download it from http://us.creative.com/support/downloads, and file name is MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250.exe.
    2. Install the latest driver by double clicking on the file name.
    3. Unplug the player from a computer if it is plugged.
    4. Remove the battery from the player (except Zen Zeeon which has a built-in battery).
    5. Press and hold the Play button while connecting the player to the USB port.
    6. Continue to hold the Play button for about 0 seconds after connecting your player is connected to the USB port.
    7. Keep on holding the Play button till Windows displays the Find New Hardware dialog box.
    8. If this is the first time a player is installed as Player Recovery Device, Windows will find a Player Recovery Device (or USB Device), and prompt you for drivers. Click on No, and select "Do not search. I will choose the driver to install". Windows will install the drivers automatically.
    9. Double click on the latest firmware upgrade file that you have downloaded previously, and follow the instructions on the screen.
    0. Format the player if you are prompted to do so.
It is recommended that you stop your player properly before physically disconnect it from your PC.
To stop your player in Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows ME
Click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Taskbar, click Safely remove USB mass Storage device, and disconnect your play when you are prompted to do so.
To stop your player in Windows 98SE
Make sure that the icon below appears on the LCD screen again for at least fi've seconds before disconnecting your player.
Now, I did all of the above and still got the error. What solved the problem finally was to connect (using the above method - remove the battery - hold the switch, etc) to a DIFFERENT USB port. Then all worked well, and the firmware transferred. Don't ask me how or why.
    Good luck.

  • 3005pr software will not install on Windows 8

    Hi,
I am using a 3005pr port replicator on a Spectre XT 4010nr laptop running Windows 8
I was rupdating the software for the port replicator and the install prompted me to uninstall the previous version and I said yes. It had to reboot to complete the uninstall so I rebooted systems.
Now when I try to install the port replicator software I get the error:
"A previous uninstall of HP Port Replicator Software is not yet complete. Please reboot your computer and run this installer again to installation."
I've rebooted, powered off, confirmed the port replication software is not installed through ARP, confirmed the device is not listed in Device Manager. But still see the above error any ideas how to reinstall the software?
