Zen V Plus under Windows 2

?Somebody bought me a new Zen V Plus, but unfortunately I'm using Windows 2000. Windows XP doesn't have enough new features to interest me and I'm concerned more about stability anyway, so I probably won't upgrade my OS for a few more years. In the meantime, I'd like to use the Zen in some way. Even if I can't load all the supporting utility software from the accompanying CD, there should be some way for me to be able to just copy files from my hard disk to the Zen's file system and play them. That in itself would be a quantum leap over having no MP3 player at all.
However, the V Plus does not look like a little hard disk to Windows, so I can't use Explorer to copy the files. As far as I have been able to learn, the V Plus uses flash memory and Media Transfer Protocol (MTP), which is supported in Windows Media Player 0 (which is only supported under Windows XP).
HOWEVER ... Microsoft recently released a Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit -- see http://msdn.microsoft.com/windowsmed...s/default.aspx -- to add MTP support to WMP 9, the last one that worked under Windows 2000. But it's not easy to set up. After installing it and reading the Readme-Redist.txt file, you run MTP9x-2k.exe, which installs the following files:? - %windir%/System32/drivers
?? - wpdusb9x.sys (Windows 98SE or Windows ME)
???OR wpdusb.sys (Windows 2000)
? - %windir%/System32
?? - mtpiusb.dll
?? - mtpsmgr.exe
?? - mtpistb.dll
?? - mtpsp.dll
? - %windir%/Inf
?? - wpdmtp.inf? But then you have to edit a .inf file to describe the attributes of your player. This is beyond my technical ability.
Am I right to think that I can get basic MP3 player use from the V Plus just by installing the MTP Porting Kit, or do I really need to upgrade to Windows XP?<
If the Porting Kit will work, can anybody help me write a .inf file that will be correct for the V Plus?<
Thanks for your help!

I really wish I could help you but I am in the same situation about this driver. I dont know whether to cry or eat my own mp3 player :[, cause in order to use it'sI?even bought an external har dri've to install xp and then realised is not even possible. So?I guess the solution?are:?to create a backup of your important documents and install windows xp,borrow a friends computer?or resell your mp3 player because you can not even charge it whithout the drivers intalled. But I wont give up :]Message Edited by elenka on 0-9-200703:33 PM

  • Zen V Plus Display Window Sym

hello board, My husband surprised me with a new Zen V Plus to listen to audio books. Everything seems to be working ok but all of a sudden there is a new "symbol" in the upper right hand corner of the display window that looks like two circular arrows with a next to them. Can anyone tell me what this is What did I do to make it appear How can I make it go away Thanks to all DJ

I don't have the Zen V Plus but the sign pretty much seems like 'Repeat Track' or something.
What you can do is to go to click the Menu button then go to 'Play Mode' and select 'Normal'. That should solve your problem.

  • Zen Nano Plus softw

it's not very hard to read, that Zen Nano Plus supports Windows 98 se...but it's much harder to use all the Creative software on this platform. Actually, you can't even install Creative media Explorer etc...why is that?
One more thing, some dust got under the LCD's cover of my ZNP. Any idea how to get rid of it's

    Hi,I was afraid of that.
    That stinks.
This player is severely handicapped for what I need it for then. I wish I realized that before I bought it.

  • Zen Nano Plus transfer prob

Am having trouble transferring .wma files to my Zen Nano Plus even though it has 590MB free. When I try to transfer anything using Creative Source I keep getting a "transfer error" message. Have tried reorganising files into folders to cut down on memory used in the root folder - but it doesn't seem to help. It's even stopped letting me transfer between folders. Has anyone else had this problem.. Anyone know what to do??

I'm having the exact same problem with my Nano Plus, and I've only had it for a little over 3 months. I contacted technical support and they told me to download the Firmware update and gave me these directions:
    Zen Nano Plus Firmware Update:
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/download2.asp?Product=2720&dlcentric=9423&Product_ Name=ZEN+Nano+Plus&OSName=Windows+XP
To install this firmware upgrade, do the following:
    - Connect your player to your computer.
    - Double-click the firmware upgrade file.
    - When prompted to set your player in Recovery mode, disconnect your player from your computer.
    - Press and hold the Play button while connecting your player to your computer's USB port.
    - Continue to hold the Play button for about 0 seconds after connecting your player to your computer.
    - Release the Play button when the "Find New Hardware" dialog box appears on the computer screen.
    - Follow the instructions on the screen to install recovery drivers for your player.
    - Double-click the firmware upgrade file and follow the instructions on the screen. Ensure to select the "Format Data Area" option within the Update.
However, at step 6 my computer did not recognize my player with it being on and neither did the Firmware. I responded to Technical Support and told them this. They said it seemed like it needed repaired or replaced! Even though there is a -year warranty, there is only a 3 month labor warranty, which means if you send it in to get fixed and it has passed the 3-month labor warranty, you have to pay a $24.95 diagnostics and handling fee. If you're in this situation, they said the best thing to do is try to exchange it wherever you bought it first. I hope this helps!

  • WMP won't recognize Zen V Plus

I have a Creative Zen V Plus and Windows Media Player doesn't recognize it. It shows up in device manager and as a seperate dri've when I plug it into the USB.
I have updated all firmware, re-booted the mp3 player, checked that all USB ports have power, re-installed the software and downlaoded Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6. for Windows Vista. All of which did nothing.
The Customer Support at Creative says it is a windows issue, HP says it's a Creative issue. Any suggestions on how I can fix this?
    Thanks.
    Neil

After switching from Win XP to Vista I needed a new way to organize playlists on my Zen V Plus, and I just could not get used to Windows Media Player. Then I discovered MediaMonkey, and to me it is *so* much more intuiti've. I am using it mostly for podcasts, but it looks like it does just everything, and it is free.

  • Zen Nano Plus will not play all trac

My Nano Plus will not playback all tracks installed. My Firmware has been updated to .0.03I have formated the Nano Plus via Windows Explorer.
Tracks have been transferred via Windows Media Player 0 AND Creative MediaSource Organizer 3.30.2 with the same problem. The NanoPlus Mass
Storage Driver has been updated, too. I have tried it on both a desktop AND a notebook PC. The transferred tracks are combinations of WMA and MP3. Both played and unplayed tracks are a combination of
    WMA-protected, WMA-nonprotected, and MP3, 28/59/60/92kbps -
nothing unique about the tracks that will not play.
The tracks have either been ripped from my audio CDs or downloaded via Media Player MSN Music store or MP3 store. I have licensed all tracks and they all play via Windows MediaPlayer and Creative MediaSource Player from my hardri've.
All tracks show up on the Zen Nano Plus in windows explorer and will play from the NanoPlus via Media Player and Creative MediaSource player, but they will not all play through the NanoPlus.
All problem tracks (if transferred via
MediaSource) will either be skipped or the NanoPlus will pause when the NanoPlus is playing or they simply are not
    visible (if transferred via MediaPlayer0).
The problem tracks are not always the same tracks after I have re-transferred them (I have tired 4
times to clean/re-transfer tracks). I have 8 tracks and only 36 will play. When transferred via Windows MediaPlayer0, the tracks are organized into multiple folders. When transferred via Creative MediaSource, they are all in the root directory.
What can I do to get this to work properly?

    That may be it!
My tracks have been transferred with WMP0 into the following Folder structure:
    MUSIC-AUTHOR-ALBUM-Tracks.
In Explorer/MediaSource, there is One MUSIC folder containing 65 AUTHOR folders containing 74 ALBUM folders containg 85 Tracks.
My Zen Nano Plus MENU-MUSIC display shows only 3 Folders -- 3 ALBUM Folders of 36 Tracks -- the tracks that do playback.
Is this just an organizational problem?
If so, it's not very handy to Sync....there is nothing in the manual that explains this!
    I'll re-organize and see.
What is the best FOLDER structure to use?

  • Windows doesn't detect Zen V Plus he

I've just purchased the Creative Zen V Plus 4gb for my girlfriend but windows doesn't want to detect it, I have followed the?online suggestions with no?luck. It shows in my device manager but with an exclamation mark next to it, I've tried re-installing the driver with?no luck. I've tried this with media player 0 and just updated to series but am still having the same problem. I think all I need is a driver for this player but the software that came with it is not helping me! I have a ipod which I use on the same usb port and that works fine so why doesn't the Zen work!?
Your help would be very much appreciated.

Did you try to connect your device to Windows Media Player , under "Sync" Did you download and install all latest drivers and software (see below) ZEN V Plus and then Windows Vista 32-bit. http://us.creative.com/support/downl...ype=0&x=27&y=3

  • Zen V Plus recognized by device manager, but not by Media Explorer/Windows Media Pla

    Hi,
I just got back from Best Buy after buying a Creative Zen V Plus. I installed everything from the CD and plugged in the player, but the Media Explorer doesn't recognize it (even after restarting PC). The Device Manager recognizes it but there's an exclamation mark next to it. The Windows Wizard came up numerous times asking me for permission to connect to the internet and install the driver for me, and after a while I tried doing so but it said it couldn't find anything (I would like to shave that wizard's beard off).
I went through all the stickies in the forum and about 3 different troubleshooting sessions with no luck. I googled it and asked this question on Ask Yahoo!, but no luck yet.
    Here's my PC info:
    Windows XP SP2
    768MB Ram
    Pentium 4 2.8Ghz
USB 2.0 (I tried different ports, the player does seem to be charging as there's a little lightning bolt flashing on top of the battery icon)
I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out.
    Thanks!

Ok. I checked my version of XP. It is XP Pro, Version 2002, SP2. I checked and already had the 2 hotfixes that were listed as being needed before proceeding. I followed all the steps and changed the registry key on "everyone" as the instructions stated to do. My ZVM is still not recognized by any of the software for transferring or organizing MP3's. My computer still recognizes that it is attached. It still gives me the device icon in the task bar. It still says it's A-ok in the Device Manager. It does everything, except it is not detected by ANY of my music software. <sigh>? Frustration is at its peak for me right now. I really appreciate all of the efforts. I'm at my wits end now. I have done everything you have indicated I should, but am getting the same results. I did purchase an extended warranty from Circuit City where I purchased this last summer. Is that the next step? Do I need to get this replaced?I love this player and really don't want to go through this again. We had to exchange it twice in the first month because it froze up and wouldn't do a thing. This last one has been perfect. I keep it in a leather padded case at all times. It never has the battery drained. It never gets jostled or bumped or dropped or anything that might damage it. When not being played, it stays on my desk in the case.
Thanks so much for any and all help.

  • Creative Zen V Plus won't sync with Windows Media Player 11?

My Zen V Plus won't synchronize with Windows Media Player . I plug it into the USB, then an error message pops up in WMP that says "WMP has encountered a problem and needs to close" but if I just move the window aside WMP works fine. I then click 'sync" and it says "preparing to sync" but doesnt move beyond that. I have synced with WMP before, this problem has recently started occurring. I have all the firmware updates on my player, I don't know what is causing this problem.

  • Zen V Plus sync of playlists from Windows Media Player

I am using automatic sync on windows media player 0 to my Zen V plus. The music is transferring, but I do not see the playlists being shown on the Zen player. Any ideas how to get them to sync as well so I don't have to build them on the player?

After trying things out for a while, I found that when you sync using Windows Media Player, the playlists selected will be on the Zen V plus screen for you to select. It will not display on the folders that list on the Windows Media Player display. I don't know why, but the important thing is that the playlists do end up on the Zen V plus so that you can select and play them.

  • No Player Detected for my Zen V Plus, and I don't have Windows Media Pla

I don't get it, I went to uninstall Windows Media Player , since that is what every one says is the reason my computer isn't recognizing the Zen V Plus, but I don't even have it on my computer. What else can I do? I am not so PC friendly I have to admit, I work on a IMAC at work and just barely tolerate the PC that we have at home. Any suggestions before make a trip to the Apple store and pic up an IMac and IPod?

I bought my daughter the Zen V Plus for her birthday because we were getting tired of the Sony Walkman mp3 player only playing their format (atrac3). It made it hard to get music off the net that was mp3 format. It does not convert well. Anyway, we followed the install directions to the letter. It took all day (over 5 hours) to get this set up and music INTO it.
Turns out, while Windows Media Player transfers music to the player just fine, the Creative Media Source is junk. It does NOT recognize the player so you can not transfer music to the player. The Sync Mangager just wants to add EVERY song in your computer to the player and the Creative Media Explorer doesn't know what to do. I have used Sony Connect, iTunes and Windows Media player. All require program to transfer music. Why does this tiny player need so many programs? Why not one GOOD one to organize, burn, sync? It's like non of these programs can talk to the other one. To use the Media Explorer we had to re-create a playlist we already had in the MediaSource program. Also, I miss the easy - 2 - 3 of the Sony/iTunes/Windows Media Player.
MediaSource requires like 5 steps to organize the music list the way you want it (by song, artist etc). Other programs you just click on the column title and it organizes it just like that.
?I have decided for our own sanity (lost of profanity and tears just trying to get music into the player today) that we would just use Windows Media Player 0 from now on. My only complaint about using Windows Media Payer 0 to organize and transfer music is that I don't know how to make it tell me what is already in the player when I want to add/delete or change the music around.
?Does anyone know what program has to remain on our computer to run the Zen V Plus? Can I remove the dead MediaSource? Will the player still charge without it's?

It's getting harder to find devices that still work with old operating systems, but you could try installing this driver:
    Filename: MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250.exe
This download contains an improved version of the drivers found on the Installation CDs for Creative MuVo?, MuVo USB2.0, MuVo TX FM, MuVo N200, MuVo V200, Zen? Neeon, Zen Nano Plus or Zen Nano players.
    Requirements:
    * Microsoft? Windows? XP, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition or Windows 98 Second Edition
    * Available USB port (version . or higher)
    * Creative MuVo, MuVo USB2.0, MuVo TX FM, MuVo N200, MuVo V200, Zen Nano, Zen Neeon or Zen Nano Plus player
    * To install the driver, do the following:
. Download the MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250.exe file into your local hard disk.
    2. Connect the player to your computer.
    3. Double-click the driver file and follow the instructions on the screen.
Instead of using the Creative software on the CD, you could just use Windows Explorer to drag and drop you songs to your Nano Plus.
