Zen V Plus USB connect

Hi fellows
I have problems with my Creative Zen V Plus 2 GB
After installing all the software included in the CD, i plug my Zen in the USB port but my PC doesn?t recognize it, a message appears: A device is connected in a 6 ports USB root hub not compatible with high speed" (well, it'ss a translation, because English isn?t my nati've language) but i don?t have any usb hub, so my Zen appears like not connected, so i can't transfer music, or configure it.
I even tried to modify the system?s registry but it stills not working.
I run W XP Home Edition, and WMP 0.
Thank you very much for your help

Hey Guys,Here is a link to instructions on how How to obtain and to install USB 2.0 drivers in Windows XP Service Pack . http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q329632?Win2000 and later have the capability to support USB 2.0, but USB 2.0 was released after XP was release, so there weren't any drivers installed before Windows XP service pack 2. Make sure you've installed all your windows updates including service pack 2. You can check if you have SP2 by right-clicking on my computer and choosing "properties", it will say on the general tab. Also the way to tell if you have USB 2.0 drivers installed is to right-click on my choose "Manage", then choose "device manager" look down to "uni'versal serial Bus controllers" and click on the + . This will expand the USB devices. Look for the word "enchanced" (USB enhanced host controller). If you see it, then you have USB 2.0 support. If not, use the link above and get the drivers. Hope this helps!?JT

• Zen V Plus keeps connecting and then disconnecting to the computer. HEL

So when I plug in my Zen V Plus into the computer using the USB cable, it pops up in windows XP as usual, but then 2 seconds later it disconects. I move it to the side and it re-connects, then 2 seconds later it disconects again. Can anyone tell me what's going on with my Zen??Thank you !!

I cannot guarantee that this is the answer to your question (I'm not an electrical engineer), but the same thing happened when I tried once to charge my Zen V Plus at work. But after reading this forum for a while, I came to the conclusion that the Zen waits for a specific signal from the USB port that says it's okay to charge it. If it doesn't get the signal, it goes to "sleep" for a while, then wakes up to check again. If still no "okay" signal is received, it cycles back and forth between sleeping and checking. That's why the screen lights up, then goes off for a while, then lights up again.
This is a GOOD thing I guess because it means I don't have to do the "disconnect USB dri've" thing since the Zen knows when it's receiving power.
At home I don't experience this behavior.

• Zen Nano Plus is connected but not reconi

I gave my wife a Creative Zen Nan Plus for Christmas and have spent many hours try to load it up. I connect it to the USB port and it connects to my computer, I get notification that it's connect via the safely remove hardware icon in the system tray. When I go to stop it the system just hangs and I need to unplug it to bring things back. If I leave it connected for a long time it will sometimes show up in windows explorer as a dri've but I still can't access it, if I try the system locks up until I unplug it.
I've tried everything that Creative suggests but still can't get it to work. I even plugged it into my work laptop and was able to communicate via Windows Media.
I have a Sony storage media and it works fine. I also have a scanner, digital camera and printer all that work fine with my USB ports.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
GCA
P.S., I've tried everything I can find on the help and forums and there appears to be nothing quite like this.

Both computers are running XP.
The laptop is from work and is running XP Pro. lt's locked down by IT so I didn't install the ZEN software. Windows Media found it okay!
The other computer is my personal computer running XP Home. I'm thinking maybe there's a conflict with Norton and checking that out now.... what to I have to loose!
My next step is to take it back to Best Buy and purchase something else!!

• Zen V Plus Strange connection behav

When I'm running the Rhapsody software and connect my Zen it shows right up in the sources list. Sometimes it stays connected for 0 minutes and then it disconnects. Other times it disconnects in 5 seconds. Random, yet it will always disconnect on its own. When its connected everything works great.
As a test I created a 28MB partition on the Zen as a USB storage device. Same behavior when connected this way.
Any ideas? I did not install any creative specific software.

Tried it on two different PCs. Both are up to date WinXP boxes. FYI, Samsung player works flawlessly for connection to Rhapsody as well as charging.
Zen V firmware is later than the version on the website (BTW, why doesn't Creative keep the website up to date with firmware releases, very confusing).
Any other ideas. Is anyone out there using this thing successfully with Rhapsody or another service?

• Zen Nano Plus USB conection cab

Every time when I try to connect my Zen to PC, to transfer another mp3 to it I realize that that I dont like its MINI-USB to USB connection cable. It is especially those times when I try to use it as storage device. I know that my friend have an mp3 player (not Creative) that has a small MINI-USB to USB adapter (without wire).
So I started to ask for it in local stores. The problem was that they had only a package of different kinds of adapters and I don`t nead all other.
So the question are:
Why do Creative do not include a small adapter instead of such unhandy cabble adapter in a product package.
ps
I believe that most of computers have an USB connection in front of it. And Zen is not so heavy to damage it.

Most new PCs do but we don't all have the latest specs. My PC is 3 years old and only has USB ports on the back - I plugged the lead in when I got my N200 and left it in place.
If all I had was an adaptor then I would have to root around behind my PC to connect my player. An adaptor works for people with front mounted USB ports, but the cable is good for people with either.

• Zen Touch 40GB: USB connection dies mid-transfer.

I just received a brand new 40GB Zen Touch. While transferring a group of songs to it (whether via MediaSource or Media Player) it successfully transfers a few before freezing, waiting for a minute, and then claiming that either the Zen Touch is no longer connected or is busy. The only way to remedy the problem is to unplug the USB cable and reconnect - after which the same cycle is always repeated (a few songs, then freezing...).
Can anyone advise?
Thanks in advance.

• Zen V Plus Not Connected. Saying No drivers are installed for this devi

Hi,?Recently purchased a zen v+ and thought i'd gotten a good mp3 player.got home, charged the player. installed software and got excited to start putting songs on and listening to?it. plugged it in the usb slot and BAM!?"USB device not recognized" so i went into control panel/system/hardware/devicemanager then clicked on uni'versal serial bus controllers and noticed a "unknown device". so i right clicked it and went properties and its saying No drivers are installed for this device. so i went to the driver tab and clicked on driver details and a window popped up saying no drivers are required or are loaded for this device.. then i came to the support page and had a look at some posts and came across http://us.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=2&sid=9287?i read and followed the instructions word for word and still didnt help. went to the creative support downloads page and thought maybe i could download and re-install the drivers for my zen v+ but they had no downloads that related to drivers. Before contacting creative i thought i would come on here and find out if anyone can help.is there a site? or can someone give me a site so i can download the latest drivers for my zen v, i've tried installing them off the cd and it says no new devices found. any help would be greatfully appreciated..thanks for your timebrett?

For the English people among us:
Choose Start
Choose Run
Type REGEDIT en geef ENTER
Open:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
With right mouse ENUM and choose Permissions.
Check if there is a group EVERYONE with a 'v' on READ
The same for USB (under ENUM). If the group everybody is not there, create one.

• ZEN Nano plus usb sp

seems much slower than my other usb2.0 device.
Is there anybody has this similar problem?
thanks

In an effort to get back in your good books:
Here is one thread of someone with a similar problem but no-one has answered them yet.
There are a number of reasons for this:
The memory in the player is slower than that used in your other USB devices.

The drivers for the USB port used might not be installed properly.

There is a problem with the cable from Creative.

There are quite a few other people who reckon the Creative players are slow (just do a search for "slow usb transfer" to see how many) so I would say that the memory used is slower than in other devices - it would be cheaper so making the overall cost of the player lower.
I have never gone to the trouble of measuring how fast/slow my N200 is when reading/writing files but it always seems to load them reasonably quickly. Definitely not slow enough for me to be concerned.

• Zen nano plus usb co

The rubbery cover on the usb port will not stay closed. I expect it to tear off completely or fill with dirt shortly. Is there any solution to keep the flimsy little flap closed. Love the player but I don't care to baby it.

How about forcing it softly, for example by pressing your ZNP to some hard surface, like a desk? It should change it's shape and stay in the player. Before you do that, check if the little part of the cover (which enters the usb port) has the right shape. It maybe the cause of falling out.

• Zen Nano Plus Connection Probl

(2)Zen Nano Pluses. Both using firmware .0.03. One Red, one Black (Click and Clack always want to know what color car they are diagnosing...)
(2) Computers, both XP SP2 with all updates; one called Dad's, one called W's.
One Zen (for ID, the red one) has been used on Dad's computer without issues for about 3 weeks.
One Zen, new and color Black, works on Dad's computer, but not on W's computer. W's computer will not properly recognize either the new Nano (the black one) or mine (the Red one), in either Creative MEdia SOurce, or Zen Explorer, or Windows explorer.
First, I have read the FAQ's. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Nano software. When I use PB's check odd things appear:
PB's check:
With your player connected and View, Devices by Connection selected in Device Manager navigate through as follows:
Advanced Config and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
->Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
-->PCI Bus
You should then see a series of USB Host Controllers that you will have to click through in turn to find the one your player is connected to.
Underneath each controller should be a USB Hub, and then devices are listed beneath the hubs.
For my N200 I have USB Mass Storage Device, Creative MuVo N200 USB Device then Generic Volume.
Your entry should be similar but with Zen Nano Plus instead of N200.
While you're there, right-click on the entry for the hub attached to your player and select Properties. On the Power tab it will show how much current the port can supply and in the Attached Devices list it will show how much power the player needs. In my case the hub supplies 500mA and the player needs 00mA.
PB
What appears on Dad's computer, with either Nano, is USB Enhanced Host Controler, USB Root Hub, Generic USB Hub, USB Mass Storage Device, Creative Zen Nano Plus USB Device, Generic Volume. Again, either Nano works on Dad's computer.
On W's computer, after just having reinstalled the new mass driver, it is USB2 Enhanced Host Controller, USB Root Hub, USB Mass Storage Device, Disk Dri've. On restart from that, it reads Creative Nano Plus USB Device, with no "volume" underneath it, and the oddball icon is not there. I think the oddball icon is associated with the "Disk Dri've". Once it read under Creative ZEn Nano Plus, "Unknown Device". Also, when I attach a Nano to W's computer, it first seems to see the Nano in the New Device Found message, THEN while it is still attached, it says in another New DEvice Found mesage that it has found a Disk Dri've. It also shows some oddball icon I can't decipher, right next to the "safely remove Hardware" icon. The oddball icon does not appear on Dad's computer.
Any ideas?

NEWS!!!
Actually, we have 3 Zen Nano Pluses. Two (the black and the red) have .0.03 firmware. I have never connected the black or the red to W's computer and have it connect properly. In fact, I had just tried (again) to connect the black, it failed, I re-booted. Then, I connected the blue, with the old firmware, and it CONNECTED. I could see it in WIndows explorer as dri've F:, which never happened with either the red or the black with .0.03 firmware.
So, now what?

• Zen Nano Plus connection problems - SOLVED (1/2/06)

I recently bought the Nano Plus. On first installation everything worked fine. I decided to upgrade to the latest drivers and firmware via downloads from the Creative site. At some point during the firmware upgrade, everything seemed to hang. Eventually I had to halt the process, disconnect the player and reboot.
When I plugged the player back in, it is detected as a USB Mass Storage Device, but Windows Explorer and the Zen Nano Plus Media Explorer both claim that the device is not connected.
Here's what I have done so far:
)Uninstalled all drivers and Creative software, rebooted, reinstalled drivers/software, rebooted. When plugging the player in, a brief window pops up saying Zen Nano Plus has been detected. This is followed by USB Mass Storage Device being detected (this window stays up a lot longer, sometimes more than 5-0 minutes before disappearing).
2)Another uninstall/reinstall, but this time with a registry cleanup in between. Same result.
3)Tried installing installation cd on partner's laptop and plugging in the player. Absolutely everything works fine. So it's not my player. There must be something I still need to do on my desktop to get everything to work again.
4)Have also tried plugging into every USB outlet on the desktop. No change.
My system:
Windows XP (sp 2)
3.2 GHz
Intel 865 chipset
2 GB RAM
My Zen Nano Plus is currently running .0.03 firmware (latest).
On this desktop I am running the latest drivers (Creative Mass Storage Drivers .07.00.250)
When the player is plugged in, device manager shows no problems. Under Disk Dri'ves, Creative Zen Nano Plus USB Device is listed (and says the driver is from Microsoft, 7//0, version 5..2535.0). Under USB, USB Mass Storage Device is listed (and says the driver is from Microsoft, 7//0, version 5..2600.0).
I have tried manually updating these drivers to anything listed in the Creative folders upon installation, but it does not detect anything. When I check the drivers listed on the laptop that works with the player, these same driver details show up.
Any advice would be appreciated. I certainly would hate to only use my partner's laptop every time I want to update my music. I am also frustrated and puzzled as to why my player first worked on my desktop and now doesn't.Message Edited by lcvdw on 0-03-2006 2: AMMessage Edited by lcvdw on 0-03-2006 2:2 AM

• Zen V Plus and USB Connect

Hello everyone. First off... I love the look, feel, and design of the Zen V plus. I'm hoping to eventually get to compliment the actual functionality of it. It has been a long day of hurry up and wait since I sped off to Circuit City early this afternoon for the Zen V plus. I'm just DYING to test it out, but it seems there is a major stumbling block. Let me give you a step by step run down of what has gone on since I can't seem to find a solution in the other posts I've read:
I put the installation disc and successfully installed the software on it.
After installation, I connected the zen v plus to the USB port and it wasn't long before I saw the battery symbol, complete with lightning bolt to show that it was charging. I also noticed that it was "docked", and I saw the USB symbol on the screen of the mp3 player. The button lights were glowing on and off. No problems yet...
I checked to see if you could sync songs while it charged - and it didn't recognize the player.
Around the 4 hour later mark, it DID recognize the player, and allowed me to rip and sync my Maroon 5 CD. I decided to leave and let it charge fully before making any other attempts.
I come home, and the mp3 player has been charging for approximately 6.5 hours. The lights are no longer flashing, and it has appeared to shut off, which I assumed meant it was done charging.
I unplug - attempt to turn on - and nothing. It's dead. Now...it's not being recognized at all.
I'm not good with electronics really, and never pretended to be, but something tells me the USB connection is weird. My brother owns a PSP - and sometimes it doesn't want to read *his* device either. I'm wondering if perhaps it did recognize the device long enough to give me confidence that it was charging, and then lost the usb connection at some point. (It's highly doubtful that my pc went into any sort of sleep/power save mode because there is almost always someone on the computer here.)
For what it's worth, I am using WMP 0, Windows XP (service pack 2), and have tried ALL usb ports (front and back) to get some juice into this thing. The computer just won't recognize it now. I plug it in and hit the power button, and it won't show me so much as a sign of life.
Any suggestions

I had this exact same problem. you should see a little plug on the battery when its connected to the computer, you are seeing a lightning bolt because your V Plus has an old Firmware version on it. Head to the Support->Downloads section and download the latest (..03 I think). This fixed most of the problems I was having.

• Zen V Plus - File Format - USB Connect

Have a car radio that accepts a USB direct connection - but it reads only FAT32 files
any idea oh how I can get me Zen to this file format

You can't get the media content from a Zen V Plus as FAT32. It uses MTP to transfer content, not UMS (i.e. it doesn't look like a memory stick to your car HiFi).

• Connection Problems with my Zen to a Usb 1 compu

A Mate of mine got a Zen V Plus the other week, couldnt get it working at all, kept saying that the USB was low speed, ie USb , and that it would run at? a reduced speed, ok I said, not to bad, it will stilll run, but then when went into the software to update the player, it was saying it wasnt finding anything connected. so i dont? a bit of research and found out about upgrading to Windwos XP Sp2, so anyway, i done a job on the computer the other day, connected the player, and same message coming up, cant connect the player. now is there anything else im doing wrong perhaps, cause i cant think of anything else to do, perhaps the bios settings or something?thanks in advance for the replies.

For starters, assuming you are using the v.xx PDE firmware make sure you have the latest drivers and software:
. Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03
2. Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
3. Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource
Install , then connect the player to the PC. Then install 2 and 3 (the player must be connected for 2 to verify you have a Creative product).
