Zen V: Proble

About a year ago. (9 months, to be exact), I got a Creative Zen V for my birthday. I was very excited and happy, as I use Creative products and software for building computers and didn't think I'd have much of a problem with my MP3 player.
I was wrong.
About a month ago, I saw something funny. Half of my screen was pure black. Now, having taken Electronics, I figured the LCD was going out and it annoyed me a bit, as I had never had this sort of problem with my other MP3, which happened to be an iRi'ver. I figured since it was only half the screen, that it'd be okay to use still. I continued to use it. I noticed within days, the screen was completely black(Or VERY dim) and I could no longer see to access my music. I continued to fumble with it and get by until it stopped completely.
This annoyed me greatly. I hadn't picked it up since, as it would never turn on. I plugged it in and the blue on the buttons is flashing to let me know it's charging, but the LCD is completely dead.
Now, I was interested in getting it replaced, but here inlies a problem; it was gift, and I have no receipt. I am almost completely sure I do not have the box it originally came in, as I dispose of them. Creative states that I can not get it fixed if I can't show proof of purchase. I'm unsure if it was paid by cash or credit card and if I can get a statement showing the purchase if paid by check/credit card/debt card. Either way, this means I have to go through junk to prove that it's mine - and on top of that - pay 25 dollars because the 3 months of labor warranty is gone.
This upsets me greatly. If I can not prove it, then the person who bought me the MP3 wasted 00 dollars on something that didn't even last a year.
Is there anything I can do? If not, I'm sorry to say that I will have to break away from using Creative MP3's again.Message Edited by Shetani on 0-8-2007:38 PM

this situation happpens on iPod player too, no reciept no warranty.they can't even based on the serial no. and try to offset from there, (unlike Creative) which they did that for me out of goodwill when i mentioned that?i've lost the reciept.

  • Micro Zen Firmware probl

Ok, so I have seen a ton on this already, but I am having trouble making them work for me so I am starting a new one. Here goes...
I have a micro Zen mp3 player, worked fine for most of the time I had it. Then one day it said "firmware problem" and showed me four options. I took them in roughly this order: Clean up, then a formatting option, then reboot. Then I foolishly chose the horrible misnamed "reload firmware" option and promptly screwed myself up. My Micro zen was not plugged into my computer at the time so I could not reload the firmware. Then a day or so later, my computer died as I was awaiting a response from Creative. I got a new computer, and it runs vista. Now, I plug it into my USB port and the computer recognizes that a new device is plugged in, but no other program (Windows Media player, etc) recognizes that it is there.
So, thats the back story. What do I do now? Other than hit my mp3 player with a hammer or otherwise break something out of frustration....

Bear with me as I lay out the problems/sequence of events:
    - Got excited over the MTP support and upgraded. My laptop stopped recognizing the Zen
    - Creative support thought that my MP0 maybe hosed; so I rollback and install MP0 again. No resolution.
    - Went into to 'rescue mode' and wiped the disk clean
    - Installed the old firmware; my laptop recognized the Zen
I pressed on and connected my Zen to a desktop and upgraded the firmware to MTP support (v2.x)
    - I was able to sync with MP0 but frequently experienced problems with 'hang' during sync after 00%
    - I disconnected the unit and MP0 aborted the sync
    - Reconnect and sync would hang at the exact same song. Further, I noticed the following:
    - Songs would sync up very fast (noticed around 800KB/S)
    - The problem song would experience startup problems and would hang after reaching 00%
    - I deleted the 'problem' song (which plays fine in MP0) and 'sync' continued without problems
    - Created a playlist in MP0 which synced OK; but the Playlist is missing in Zen!!
    Summary:
I think Creative released the f/w too early.

  • ZEN firmware probl

Yurmed on the Zen 20GB MP3 player today and found it to be in "Recovery Mode". It said to reboot and reload firmware(?) I am completely stuck. It won't work at all and for no reason I can see!. Be v grateful if anyone help please! Thanks. Guy (UK)

If you have the Zen 20GB that is just that , ie without the words Touch, Jukebox, Vision or anything else after it ! (like the black one sold by amazon uk) then the original firmware for download is at select all-goes off page- and paste into browser, or look at downloads on Asia site. Previously covered in older posts. The model you have (if as described)
    is the good-why don't-they-just-sell-it-everywhere-how-can-creative-be-so-stupid-not-to zen 20Gb I have.

Well, they don't sell the Zen in the Europe regions, but the Zen Sleek instead. I would prefer the Zen Sleek over the Zen! It looks a lot better and sleeker than the Zen!

  • More Zen Micro Proble

I looked about and sifted through the board, but I haven't come across this problem, so I figured I'd ask. I'm sorry if it has been mentioned before.
I recently redid my computer, bigger harddri've and what have you, so I had to reinstall all my drivers and applications. While doing this I noticed there was some firmware I should probably download, so I did (v2). Well, since then my computer won't recognize my Zen if I paid it. I relized a month later that I downloaded the wrong firmware, erased everything, reinstalled (v) and yay for me, my comp sees my Zen now.
    Here is my problem.
When installing firmware, everything gets erased. I knew this so it didn't surprise me. Now tht I have everything fixed and can put music back on to it, it won't work. It keep getting an error telling me that whatever I put into it is wrong format or corrupted. That's not possible, because they are the same songs I had in there before hand.
Any suggestions as to what it could be or how to fix it's

I'm using MediaSource, that's the one I've been using the whole time since I got it.
I'll try the Explorer and see if that works, do I need to uninstall MediaSource first?

  • Major Zen Xtra probl

I was attempting to load 880 songs in WMA format to my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 30gb for the past 2 days. As the songs were loading, it then said that "player is not connected, please connect player." It was connected. I got that problem fixed through cuistomer support after 45 minutes of trying to explain to them my problem. Then, everytime it get's to file # 770 out of 880, it sto
    ps.
I have attempted this now a 3rd time, and the same exact result. I first thought was it could be that the last 0 files were corrupted (yeah, right.) Checked all 0 and playback was normal, with no errors occuring. So I attempted to just load that last 0 on their own, not with the rest, and the same thing is happening. I've called customer support and they have been absolutely no help to me whatsoever. So if anyone here can help me with my problem, or at least help me troubleshoot it, that would be great. But before you go giving me tips, this is what I have done.
    -Re-installed the software
    -Downloaded the most recent drivers
-Ran clean up on the mp3 player
    -Re-installed the firmware
    -Re-formatted the files in question
    -Countless restarts of my PC
Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. You can IM me on AOL-IM @ BMLboss429, or on Yahoo! @ BMLboss429.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Zen Xtra probl

Hi, I've had my Zen Xtra 40 gig for almost a year now, and have had no problems, except for the fact that i'd get static in the right earbud every once in awhile, but now I've encountered a really big problem. Every single song i play, comes out like crap. sometimes you can hear the arist a little bit, but most of the time all i get is the beat, and it's really fuzzy. I don't know what to do...please help me... I tried swiching headphones... made sure EAX was off...tried putting different songs on my MP3 player... I think maybe i might have done something wrong this morning...becuase i decided to back up all the music from my player to my computer...i set it to copy all the tracks...i don't know.. I'm REALLY worried. please help me. Thanks

nope, it has no effect... I think I'm under warrenty I'm not sure... I got it refurbished off Ebay...that's the last time I get anything used besides games...oh man I'm so angry... I can't even get a job... I'm too busy with school...stupid bio and chem....*sigh*
If I'm under warrenty, will it cost anything? and If I'm not, can I pay to have it fixed?

  • Big Zen Touch Probl

I recieved my Zen Touch yesterday, charged it etc. I also tested the classical tracks. Then went about transferring files from my Nomad Zen NX to the Touch. I got through around half in the time I had, then disconnected and turned off the players. Today though I plugged both in and neither responded, so i unplugged them and redid it. Then I started transferring the remaining files, but they woukd not write onto the Touch. I then looked at the touch and the screen was blank, only the blue backlight. So i reset the player, the Creative screen was displayed and the Zen one but the background was very dark, after though the screen was again blank although you could here the clicking of the touch pad. I then tried to turn it off, but it wasn't responsi've so didn't work. I went into the Recovery mode and this screen was displayed so I turned it off. I then tried again to boot it up but the problem remained. So i went into recovery mode and have tried all the options but none seem to work as the screen goes blank. I have reinstalled the firmware, and after doing so went to MediaSource (Touch was empty as I had Formatted the player before) and put an album on so the transfer of file works and the PC recognises the player. The problem remains though of a blank screen and the inablity to do anything at this point. The only way to turn off is via Recovery Mode.
Any help would be very grateful, as my patience is wearing thin and soon the Zen Touch may be falling 5' from the window to the floor!!
    Cheers

If the Rescue Mode functions aren't working then unfortunately the player is faulty. You either need to return it where you bought it for a replacement, or contact Creative Support.

  • Should I Be Worried(Go Ipod Instead?)(Zen Micro Proble

Thus far I've heard of quite a few issues with the Zen Micro. The most common ones I've heard of are freezing and the headphone jack problem. Now, at the moment I've experienced 2 issues that are really starting to worry me. Should I just go with an iPod Mini and avoid all the issues? What seems more problematic(Directed at people who do their research before buying) the Ipod Mini or the Zen micro? What are the major issues with the iPod mini compared to the Zen micro?
Here are the issues I've experienced:
)My Back, Menu Options, and Play/Pause buttons are incredibly stiff at times(especially when I first turn on the Micro)and I have to press them REALLY hard to get them working. Is there a fix for this? Is it something I should worry about?
2)Last night I encountered my second problem. It froze up for the first time. I was playing around with the Micro, and decided to test out the removable disk function. Just as it was partioning, it froze. I had to take out the battery. Should I be worried? Should I just go with another mp3 player instead? Please help me out. Has this happened to anyone else?
    I APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP!

XXT0t wrote:So you guys think I should exchange my Zen for another Zen because of the button problem? I mean, when the headphones are plugged in it works perfectly, but when I take them out the buttons are really stiff, as stated before my sensitivity is at High. Help.
If it's a big issue for you contact Creative Support first to check it's not a known issue, or update the firmware at the very least.
Also, I'm not too sure wether or not I should upgrade my firmware. As stated before the only issue Ive encountered other than the button problems, is that ONE time it froze during removable disk mode.
The ..0 has a very useful fix that reduces the standby period from 24 to 4 hours, increasing the battery life (although it depends on usage a little).
What are the differences between firmware 2.20.05 and ..0 ? Is one better than the other? Does one fix more issues than the other? Please keep the help coming.

  • Add/Remove Zen Xtra Proble

It seems New Years is booming with a slew of Zen problems, so here's mine complete with pictures. When I go to completely uninstall everything Creative from my Add/Remove menu I keep getting the similar error and am completely unsure as to what I should do. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/bassfu/remove.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../uninstall.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/uninstal.jpg?I know I didn't explain it very well, which is why I took screen shots. Any help is much appreciated. As a side note, the repair and modify options don't work as well.Message Edited by bassfu on 0-04-20070:02 PM

That sounded like it would work, but I still get the subscriber issue in safe mode. Edit: Nevermind, I figured a way to get rid of it. But now when I try to re-install Nomad Explorer at the 95% mark some message comes up about unplugging my Zen, which isn't plugged in at all.Message Edited by bassfu on 0-05-200704:3 PM
Edit #2: It appears that I could download everything I needed off the Creative website. Thanks for everyones help though.

  • 40 gig and 60g Creative Zen Nomad probl

I'm sure these are dead horses on the board but recently I've had two players cop out on me and of course the phone lines at creative don't offer any help, other than advising me to buy a new one of their products (no thanks). Here's the deal:
<SPAN class=postbody>one freezes on building library screen and there is absolutely nothing i can do to get off that screen the other one just goes to the rescue mode after the eax screen and i can't do anything from there aside from rebooting.

The?BEFORE you post, READ THIS FIRST (FAQ) post links to information about this error here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

  • Jukebox Zen Xtra probl

I accidently left my Zen Xtra in the car overnight for a couple of days. Im in Georgia and it is now the winter, and it gets pretty cold during the night.
Anyway, i got it out this morning so i could add some more songs and it wouldnt turn on. I decided to try again when i got home, thinking that it would come on again when it got warm. But it STILL wont turn on.
Is there any way i could revi've it's
    Thx

Did you try connecting it to the mains?
It might be that the cold has damaged the battery or condensation has damaged the electronics.
Have you tried resetting the player also?

  • PC - Zen Xtra probl

I am having a strange problem. I can transfer files from my Zen Xtra to my PC without much of a hitch. Runs at its normal 45mb/s. I can delete songs off of the player without any problem as well. I have about 3,000 mp3s on it at the moment, the HDD is 2/3 full (30g) and I can't transfer anything onto the player at full speed. It will start slowly, then move up to around 9mb/s for a few seconds before crapping out and running at about .99mb/s which takes a very, very long time to transfer anything. This is using Notmad Explorer, which has never given me any trouble in the past. Creative's Explorer won't even start to transfer any files. I am completely upgraded in firmware, drivers, and notmad versions. I can't figure out why this is happening. At first I thought it might be that the HDD was bad, but it reads from it fine. I have the exact same symptoms on different computers with different USB cables. Is this a common problem or am I just stuck forever with what is already on there?

Hmmm I'm thinking it might be a corrupt hard disk at worst, or perhaps a corrupt file table or similar. When it stops copying, listen to the player. Does it make a slow repeated clicking sound?

  • Creative Zen - Installation Probl

Hi there,?I was installing my Creative zen and my computer crashed out half way through the installation process. I tried Uninstalling the program but it will nor unistall as there is an error, i tried re installing it but it will not let me and i tried using the repair button when the disk is put in and it wont let me do that either. Has anyone got any suggestions on how i might be able to fix this problem. Does the program have to be installed for me to use it, can i just use it like a portable dri've and move files over into it's?ThanksChris

Same problem, purchased my creative zen Micro 0-0-06. Noticed 4-25-06 that I can not turn on my zen with on/off switch. I can however get my zen on by plugging in usb cable. Very frustrating since I have taken good care of device. $78.00 did not give me many day of usage. If you find a solution to the prob let me know. Thanks.

I have the Creative Zen MP3 player (version .00.02) an i downloaded the driver from the support section but windows media player and creative media source don't recognize it. What o/s are you using XP or Vista, but first look in the update section for a new firmware update, and read the instructions on how to update. This solved all my problems and made the player much better!
