Zen V / V Plus questi

Hi a couple of question regarding the upcoming Zen V. Hope some creative support/sales rep will see this and answer.
.) When is the 4gb version coming out for Zen V and Zen V Plus?
2.) In comparison screen, the entry for 'Storage Media' is described as 'Yes. For data file only'. What exactly does that mean? USB mass storage not support for music file? Means I can't drag and drop my mp3s from PCs to player(i always transfer music between home and office) just like I would do with a Muvo Tx?

Hi.
2) Might be the same as with the micro photo: Music is not accessed and organized through mass storage support, but with mtp and/or some proprietary protocol and explorer extension.
With the micro photo, one can declare a part of the hard dri'ves space for usb mass storage usage. Then, when you switch the player to mass storage mode, your os will detect/access it using generic usb storage support (although you won't see your music).

My girlfriend recently recieved a Zen V Plus. It has been working thus far however the battery died on Saturday so she charged it up. On Sunday, she went to use it. The Zen turned on and everything however the screen was barely visisble - like the contrast was turned down.
Any ideas?Message Edited by JoeRR on 0-7-2007:48 AM

Try resetting the player first to see if that helps, and perhaps update the firmware aswell. If it's still the same, then I suspect there is a hardware problem.
If she just purchased it, the store may be able to replace it for her, otherwise Customer Support will be able to assist.

• Lost My SuperRip and a MediaSource and Zen V Plus Quest

Seems as if after I did my software updates for MediaSource, I don't have the ability to use the SuperRip. The regular rip ability is there, but no SuperRip. I want it back. I tried uninstalling MediaSource and reinstalling, but it did not work.
My other question- I have a Creative XF-i Fataity sound card, a Creative ZEN V Plus, & a Muvo V200 (my daughter's). When I install the software for those, it installs MediaSource 5. Now I have the MediaSource (one that came with X-Fi) and MediaSource 5. I'm surprised to see the two install themselves separately. Anything wrong with uninstalling one of them?
Finally, when I updated the firmware on my ZEN V Plus, the sync manager does not work. I get the dialog box that asks if I want to send a report to Microsoft.
Help!

• Zen Nano Plus questi

How can I see how many songs are loaded on my Zen Nano Plus? When I click on the G folder or go into wither WMP or the Creative Software it shows the number of folders loaded on my player but how can it show me the number of tracks?
also how come SOMETIMES when i hook my player up the the USB the computer doesn't recognize the device and i need to restart the computer for it to recognize the device?
thank you

Alternati'vely, you can view the info in settings -> information -> track count on the player, depending on the version on the firmware you have.

• Creative Zen Nano Plus - quest

Is there a hold-button of some kind, that will prevent the mp3-player from accidently pressing any buttons when it's in my pocket? I'm asking since I'm going to buy the Nano Plus, but I was just wondering about this whole hold-thing. Is there anything that prevents the mp3-player from accidently pressing any buttons?
Thanks in advance.

I don't tend to leave my player in my pocket, it's usually in the case clipped to my trousers under most circumstances.
But unless you've got tight pockets, I don't really see how you can accidentally switch it on in your pocket, I usually have enough trouble switching the player on and off with my hands.

• Zen V plus questi

Does anyone know the screen quality of this new player? if its the same as the zen micro photo ?which it seems to be from the pictures. If its the same resolution as its big borther which they say its like the zen vison m, then its defintly worth checking out. I am an owner of the zen micro photo and one of my biggest gripes is the screen resolution which they could have did a better job on. look at the apple nano and the vison m which has this bright 3d screen resolution which should be on all players coming out now. if anyone knows about this little new addition and the screen please fill me in.

thats wasn't my question. the only reason why i payed a bit more for the micro photo was because of the headphone problem which seemed to have been fixed on the photo, at least i had no problems. But if one is buying a color screen product already at least let it be as good as the competition like the nano which is made out of crap, but the the display outshines the zen. So back to my first question is the zen v the same as the micro photo screen wise, or better?

. Is the 8gig model Flash memory based or does it have a HDD? I would prefer flash.
2. Will it play wma lossless encoded tracks?
How is the sound qualuty compared to an iPod 5G? A good friend gave me a black 5G and I do enjoy it, but I'm in the process of ditching Apple products. lately I've come to the conclusion that buying music via the ITMS or any other online music store is a complete waste of money given all the lousy DRM restrictions. Apple in particular annoys me because all the music I bought is locked to using Apple hardware unless I burn to CD and re-rip to another format which causes degradation in audio quality. Another thing that irks me about Apple is they charge this outrageous premium for outdated technology. No FM Tuner, pathetic battery life and the use of delicate, scratch-prone material that an entire industry has been created to remedy lead me to dislike Apple very much. Lets not forget idiotic design flaws like forcing the customer to send the iPod in for battery replacment which they are all too happy to do for alot of $$$.
Thanks in advance

i have a zen microphoto and let me just say: Ditching ipod.... IS A SMART MOVE !!
Zen microphoto is, of course, in color and has a battery simular to a cell phone battery, so you can handle it, charge it, and replace it whenever you want, or buy extras for long play (i have 2 batteries so when one dies on a long trip, i can switch the second one in seconds)
do you use itunes? GREAT!!! i like my music loud, so i turn the equalizer on itunes all the way up. and to add to that, zen microphoto has its own equalizer that you can set by yourself and choose how high the sound bars go!! with both itune's and zen's equalizer up, you can have a crystal-clear boom of music.
zen has great sound. better than ipods if you use after market earphones because stock ones suck on both ipod and zen (they sound the same with stock phones). zen can go way louder than ipods and be clearer.
the 8GB you ask? as a graduate of M. I. T, im gonna tell you right now that it is not possible for any type of player to have over 5GB and have flash memory. this is for reasons being that if you had a gigantic chip like that, it would be extreemly unstable and fragile. thats why hard dri'ves are made. a hard dri've for mp3 players allows them to hold tremendously more memory and still be very tough and small, since it uses a spining magnet that will virtually last forever. flash dri'ves can loose maximum memory after use and degrade faster than anything over time like "polaroid pictures"?
I would highly suggest a microphoto over any ipod because of the toughness of the model (it is highly scratch-proof and fingerprint proof, unlike ipods). it wont break umless you are extreem with it (wetting it alot, droping it constantly, ect.) its basicly a better player for the same price as an ipod nano. plus, an ipod nano does not even have replacable batteries, nor does it have a radio like the microphoto. to add to that, microphotos are beautiful and have a bigger screen and better quality zoom-in capable pictures and auto focus.
this device is the perfect mp3 player if you want a mini sized, high memory player with the great support of creative guarding your back and worth way more than your charged for an innovation like this. had mine for 3 months now.
PS: if your smart, you wont update the firmware, as this is gambling with your players usability or any mp3 player for that matter. im superb on the one it came with.

• Zen Micro USB Charger quest

I have a Zen Micro 6gb. I also have a Belkin travel kit that I bought for my Sony PDA. The kit comes with a cable that connects to the PDA on one end and the USB on the other. It also came with a auto and home adapter. The adapters have a USB port so that the USB end of the cable plugs into the adapter and it becomes a charger.
My question is does anyone think this may work for my ZM. If I plug the USB cable from the ZM into the auto or home adapter, would it charge the ZM without damaging it.
As info the specs on the adapters are:
Auto
Input : 2 - 24Vdc
Output: 5.5Vdc; 700mA
Home
Input: 00 - 240VAC; 0.3A
Output: 5.5Vdc; .0A

• Creative, Is it worth it? (i.e. whats your experience with the Zen 16gb) and Firmware questi

After doing a sizable amount of research on the Creative Zen 6gb MP3 player, I was relati'vely comfortable with the product and decided to purchase it.
However, after browsing this forum for a few hours, I see quite a few things that trouble me about Creative in general:
"Real person" my (CENSORED) -horrible customer support
Creative Expects 3rd Quarter Loss, Sells HQ Building?
Message to Daniel_K -lack of product support/customer relations
and a countless number of other posts about hardware and software issues with the Zen
I really like the features built into the MP3 player (FM transmitter, voice recorder, Equalizer) and do not want to sell my soul to Ipod.
That being said, I wanted to see if there was anyone on this forum that actually liked their Zen and did not have issues with it.
I would greatly appreciate your positi've feedback as I hope that I will not have to spend countless more hours searching for and then researching a different MP3 player that fits my needs.
In addition, I was curious about the user interface on the Zen. I know that it uses ID3 tagging and that a folder directory cannot be used to view mp3s on the player (unless this has been added in a firmware update?, however I checked the site and did not see anything about this addition). How impeding is this ID3 tagging reliance if about 00 to 500 of my mp3s have incorrect tagging? as in, will I go crazy trying to retag everything because all I see if "Unknown" for all the data?
Yeah, that's about it for my long winded post...
Thanks,
Joe?

Just return from Mexico and found my Zen 4 GB player missing from a light finger baggage handler. I would not even consider, in a thousand years, of purchasing from the "fruit company" their overprice Ipod without a FM receiver. The Creative Zen rocks. Need I say more.

• Help with my Bran-New Creative Zen Micro Photo. [Questi

If you don't want to see the backing of my whole story skip to the bold print at the bottom!I also want you to know I read the FAQs and searched through some topics like this, but haven't found any asking my question.First of all, I'm new to the forum, but I've been researching Creative's Zen for a long time now. I kept observing each one closely before I purchased a product. I then saw the Zen Micro Photo come out. This one won my attention. I loved this, I quickly searched for reviews and went for the buy for Christmas. I told my dad about it and he was "iffy" on the price, but it was better then the iPod in my opinion.Christmas day came and I opened it. Right away I checked everything out I knew a lot about the menu already and all, but not really how to control it. I checked to make sure everything worked. All systems were go. After listening to the defaults (which I loved) I went to go install the software. I already had Media Player 0 and Adobe, oh and I didn't want the freakin AOL toolbar! Lol, so I installed everything else. It took forever, but I hooked it up and I installed the drivers, but as soon as I plug in the USB connector I see: "A HIGH-SPEED USB device has been plugged into a LOW SPEED USB port. After that, I switched USB ports, btu I got same message. I hit the X and then tried to charge. I got the Lightening Bolt, but no dimming of lights. I found out that this computer is not letting me install any service packs, I'm confused about that.My question:Is there anyway I can charge this mp3 player and download music onto my Zen Micro Photo without Service Pack ? Or did I just pay $250 for a really cool glowing mp3 player to be used as a paperweight? (I love this Zen and I ran the battery dead hoping that would make the charging easier).Help?
My Specifications:
My Mp3 Player: Zen Micro Photo (Black)What I tried: Switching USB ports and re-installing Service Pack Software: Not sure how to determine firmware without installing something. I'm on a XP Professional and I'm using the Creative Media Source and Creative Media Toolbox

Thank you DM for responding. I am expecting problems, but it still won't allow me to charge the Zen Micro Photo or even use the Creative Media Source. I can't upload any songs or any contacts on it. I haven't uploaded anything yet, but it's not reading the USB device. When I run Creative Zen Micro Photo Media Explorer I get this message at the top of the screen: "The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen MicroPhoto to the computer. I can't organize anything or add songs... so it just makes all the programs I downloaded useless and my Creative product unusuable.ONe thing it does do though... whenever I plug in my Zen MIcroPhoto to the USB it turns it on and glows, but only shows my battery at the top with one red line and the green lightening bolt filling the battery up.After leaving it like this for two hours the green moves, but the red bar stays the same size.

• Zen Vision:M Warranty questi

I got a ZVM (30 GB) and the extended one year 2 years of coverage. If my HDD fails in a year and a half, what will happen? I'm assuming there will be some costs like shipping, but will I get a new ZVM? Or will they just fix it's What if a newer player comes out by then under the price i paid for my zen?
Also, how reliable/helpful is the creative tech support usually?

Even i wanted to know the same thing.. I'm facing troubles with my Vision M's display. Just bought it a month ago. I'll soon request the RMA to have it repaired/replaced. If my player is found to have technical glitches then will i be eligible for a replacement...and if yes will it be with a new player or will it be some earlier returned and repaired product...

• Zen Micro Car charger quest

Will the official Creative Car Charger allow you to use the Zen Micro if the battery is completely dead? I bought a cheap usb car adapter and it doesn't seem to work correct at all. I am looking for a way to power the Zen Micro in the car if the battery is drained- I am assuming from Creative's product description you can use their adapter to power the Zen in the car if the battery is completely drained.
We really like the Zen micro but have had continous problems with the battery. I've updated firmware and have done everything recommended in the FAQ in regards to conserving the battery. My wife primarily uses the Zen in the car to replace her cd's. It is not used that often (maybe 2-3 hours a week) but seem to not hold a chage at all. The only way we have found to fully charge the unit is through the usb port on our computer. So basically we are looking for a way to power the Zen in the car regardless if the battery is charged.
Thanks,
Scott

I'm pretty sure if the battery is dead the Micro won't work even if plugged in. I remember trying to use a demo unit at a store and the battery was dead. They plugged it into its charger and it still wouldn't work. It said it was charging but the battery had to build up a charge before it would work.

• Zen Xtra 40 GB Questi

Recently I purchased a new charger for my Zen Xtra from the site which took about month or so to arri've. After it arri'ved I added all my albums to the Zen Xtra 40GB player and carried it with me everywhere, then all of a sudden it got stuck at EAX Audio screen, after research, I say most people said to do "Reload OS" so I gave it a go. I got the message "Harddisk Problem" along with noises, after looking this up I saw the best advice they gave on other sites, even here, was to hit it until it worked. So I hit it once on the left side pretty hard and it went to Re-Building Music Library. It then froze on this screen, so I hit it again, now the noise came back. I repeatedly hit it to the point I got angry doing so as it was no use. Now it just turns on, makes a noise that sounds like a dull "click - click" repeatedly as it vibrates, then goes to the Reset screen saying Clean-Up, Reload OS, Format, and Reboot. So I tried every single option there, no luck. I still get "Harddisk Problem". After I've done all my reading I've seen I'd either have to purchase a new harddisk for it, or send it into Creative which I no longer have a warranty for. So my question is, are there any alternati've options? There has to be some way I can do this without having to pay as I no longer have the money to pay for it.

I had this exact same problem with the scroll wheel recently. Luckily I have solved the problem thanks to users here and on Nomadness.net. In fact my only posts on this board are because of this annoyance.
I was also having the scroll wheel pausing tracks and playing tracks when it shouldn't have been doing that.
For me it came down to hardware. I actually got my Xtra aroudn the same time you did and only a few weeks ago did I finally fix it. It was going on for about 2 months, and it just got to the point where I didnt want to use the player because it became such a hassle.
What I did was go to Radio Shack and get a can of Switch Electronics Cleaner. It was like 0 bucks or so. I also got a pack of .4mm phillips head screwdrivers as I was going to open the unit and fix it that way but to my dismay and maybe for the better the screws wouldnt budge on the unit. I then took the little straw thing that can attach onto the end of the spray nozzle and sprayed a small amount (one split second spray) right onto the side of the unit by the scroll wheel. The cleaner is safe on the plastic. I then worked the scroll wheel back and forth so the stuff would get into it and lube it nicely.
I fired up my player and at first it still had the problem, but literally after about a minute the problem was gone. I use my player all the time and since doing this not once have I had the scroll wheel acting as the play/pause button. Its back to what it was like when I first bought it.

• ZEN Neeon - Pre-Purchase Questi

OK, just a few questions about this particular model from Creative. I would appreciate any clear response to my questions where possible:
As a musician and regular columnist for the UK's most popular Music Tech mag:
Sound on Sound -these are just a few questions lots of our eager pro-musician readers are asking about:
ZEN Neeon Quesions
) The 'Line-In' recording feature on the ZEN Neeon has not really been fully addressed in its technical entirety on the products pages of Creative Labs web site.
So with this lack of information, I would like to ask about the quality of both the recording and encoding quality.
Could someone post a sample of a 'Line-In' recording from their Neeon?
2) If the Neeon allows PCM/WAV recording, then what is the "real" and actual true bit depth and sample rates offered. I presume the Neeon also encodes the 'Line-In' recordings to MP3 too. What bitrate/sample rates are offered?
3) Is the built-in microphone recorded using the same process as the old NOMAD models, using VOC compression? If so, why doesn't the microphone use the same method of recording as the 'Line-In'? FM radio recordings also apply to the above question.
4) When will they be available to buy in the UK?

Duplicate thread.
