Zen V Won't Rip Audio

Everytime I try to 'rip audio CDs' it says 'Unable to load the database component. The program will now exit.'?Why?

Also, how do you rename an album/track?

  • Transcode won't rip audio..

I've got a DVD-audio that I want to rip with transcode to wav for flac'ing later. I give the command:
    transcode -i /dev/sr0 -x dvd -T 1,01,1 -a 0 -y wav -m track1.wav
But no matter what value I give to -y, I get:
[audio_trans.c] critical: Sorry, output audio format not supported
    repeated about 10 times.
    Any ideas? Thanks

I've done it before with something like
    mkfifo apipe
    tcextract -i apipe -a 0 -t vob -x wav > track1.wav &
    tccat -i /dev/sr0 -T 1,01,1 | tee apipe

  • Zen Micro won't rip all music from

Hey I just bought i creative ZEN micro about a month ago and started ripping a bunch of my CD's to it. Any ways, after awhile i started to notice that some of the songs that were supposed to be on there from that CD were not anywhere on the MP3 player or anything. So i figured i guess it just didn't copy that one song and messed up or something because it ripped all the other songs from the CD. So i go back to try to rip that one song again and it will not rip it no matter what i do.
It happens on CD's every once and a while and i can't find a reason why. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem before and if they got it fixed through a firmware update (I haven't gotten that yet) or if it was a player problem and had to send the whole thing back to creative and get a new one. From what I can tell it seems like it isn't the player, but i don't know. I'm really just clueless on what to do next because if I can't rip all my songs this seems like a waste to me. I just hope it turns out to be an easy fix lol.
If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
    Mike D.

yes that is what i am using. If it makes a difference the one song i'm trying right now that doens't work is the song ocean from the cold cd "a different kind of pain" It acts like its ripping it but when it gets to the end it seems like its done and i check the player but it hasn't been added.

  • Enhanced cd won't rip to my zen touch

i have an enhanced cd, a real copy from HMV it is Gang Starr - The Ownerz, it has videos on it and MediaSource won't rip it to my pc or Zen Touch, Media Player won't rip it either.
    help!!
how do i make it rip?

EAC or AudioGrabber (google the obvious)
Both are lame front ends so you will end up with better quality encodes as a result of your efforts.

  • My dv5-1160us can't successfully rip audio. Should I try updating BIOS?

When i try to rip audio tracks from my notebook's CD drive, sometimes it DOES rip, but the result is glitchy or distorted. Other times the result is completely unplayable files. Other times, it won't even start ripping and just spins the disc in the drive forever.
I took the computer to Best Buy hoping they could fix it, but they scanned it and said the drive seemed okay. The guy told me i should try updating the system BIOS.
That doesn't sound like good advice to me... My computer DOES recognize its drive, so why go through the hassle and risk of updating BIOS? How would that even possibly help?
It seems like it might be simpler to just replace the CD drive.
    Any advice?

    Hi marcdamien:
    Thank you for your inquiry.
Ripping audio is a fairly CPU intensive process. When you are listening to a CD, the computer is just reading the data from the CD. When you are ripping the CD, it needs to read the data, convert the format to mp3, and write it out to disk. Some programs are better at doing this then others.
You can try a couple of things to assist.
    1. Shut down all other programs, and avoid using the notebook while you are ripping the cd.
    2. Try a different program.
    I hope this helps.

  • Zen Wav won't recognise text fi

My Zen Wav won't recognise the text files stored in the ebook folder, stating that there are no text
files in the player. I drag-and-drop, but only because it cannot be installed any other way. It used to work, but now isn't.

    SyberCat,
Where did you get the WMA files it won't transfer? Did you purchase them, or are they from a subscription service? Or did you rip these yourself? If you did rip them yourself, make sure you didn't rip them with DRM-protection enabled.
Which application are you using to transfer music to the player?

  • Rip Audio From Final Cut Express

Is it possible to rip audio from an MPEG Video in Final Cut Express and save a copy of JUST the audio file as .mp3? I know you can do this with QT Pro, but I'm going to be getting Final Cut Express down the road and I need to be able to do this. So I will just get FCE now if it can perform this function and not waste money on QT Pro.
    Thanks!
    A

Well, there's all kinds of flavors of 'MPEG Video' out there, knowing what you're using would help.
QuickTime Pro can do this, and it's not a waste of $20 to get it.
You can also use MPEG Streamclip to extract the audio to AIFF, then use iTunes to convert to MP3 if that's what you really want.

  • Ripping audio from a DVD - Any ideas for Macs

    Hi
I found a nice and simple piece of software from www.imtoo.com which can rip the audio out of a DVD and save it as an audio file for import to iPod. For a whole bunhc of reasons I'd rather have just the audio from films and comedy shows than the whole video.
Oddly this was listed in MacWorld, but they don't do an Apple Mac version. I am after a one stop solution if anyone knows of one - guess there must be as the IMTOO product works so elegantly, am sure someone has done this for the Mac.
    Cheers
    Sammy

I am not aware of any tool for the Mac that can rip audio from a DVD-A (audio only) disk.
I am also not aware of any 1 step tool for ripping the audio from ordinary DVD video disks.
The approach I took when I did this involved using MacTheRipper to copy to a hard disk, another tool to extract the audio, and then if I remember correctly, I used QuickTime to save the tracks as individual files (with the correct track lengths are listed on the cover). I was then able to burn the results files to a CD (audio format), and incredibly the resulting CD was recognised by iTunes (and Gracenote CDDB) with the correct tracks names etc. (The DVD was of a concert.)
This as you can tell was not a simple one step operation, it took most of an afternoon trying various tools.

  • My 24" iMac won't read audio cds--ejects them after about 15 seconds

My 24" intel iMac won't read audio cds. It ejects them after about 15 seconds. I have virtually never played cds on this machine in five years. It plays dads with no problem. Anybody have any feedback. I also saw a fix by deleting some presence files.

I saw this on a forum from about four years ago:
    Trash the following folders:
    com.apple.kernelcaches (from System/Library/Caches
    extensions.kextcache (from System/Library
    CDInfo.cidb (from Home/Library/Preferences
    Restart
    Could this be a fix.
Unfortunately, I can't reset PRAM. I've done it a thousand times over twenty years, but my machine simply boots up without the extra chimes.

  • IDVD won't ecode audio, 'not responding' = force quit

    IDVD 6 /10.4.7/MACPRO
iDVD won't encode audio portion from iMovie had off.
original iMovie from DV camera, iMove encodes QT, etc
iDVD encodes video ( as noted by time bar) but when it gets to the audio portion it stops responding and then I have to forcve quit.
repaired persmissions, and delited the iDVD.plist
any thing I can do? iDVD 6 is the first time I used this after update

    Scooper,
iDVD is "not" slow (nor fast) encoding (actually transcoding) audio. iDVD relies on the Quicktime framework. iDVD invokes an external library from the set of resources provided by QT.
If the encoding appears to be slow. It may find its root in various origins. First, MacOSX is a Unix system. Unix is not "preemptive". It means that access to resources occurs thanks to a "good will" mode between processes (to make things short). So, it may appear that some processes are stale, but things are usually well under control (by the kernel). So, don't be hasty in killing a process reported as "not responding".
If you consider that the encoding process takes too much time, there are ways to make things better. First: More RAM. No workaround to that. Give some room to your Mac. Keep also in mind to keep free room on hard drive at least equal to 2 1/2 times the amount of RAM of your system. The Unix kernel of your Mac handles a "swap" that is used to virtually create an amount of RAM larger than what your system physically has. The kernel simply uses your hard-drive as buffer to store copies of RAM blocks occupied by portions of code or data not currently active. If all this is too small, the kernel will spend an awful amount of time dealing with the short space (RAM + free disk space for swap).
One way to figure out if you're in such case is to use one of the many administration tools available to you. Open Terminal (or a X11 xterm) and type 'top' (without quotes).
Check the last line of the header for the "pageouts" indicator. If the number in parenthesis is not zero (0), repeatedly, it means that your kernel is swapping memory block from the physical RAM to the virtual RAM stored on the hard drive (swapping).
Hit 'q' to quit top. You can also try 'top -o cpu'. This will get you which process is currently running requesting the most CPU resources. Normally, on a Unix system, if one process needs CPU and is mostly the only one at the moment asking for CPU, it can be allocated most of the available CPU time and jumps to over 80%. If you consider this "abnormal", just look at the "Load Avg." indicator. It tells you how many processes are "waiting" for their turn to access the CPU - it's averaged throughout the time, through 3 numbers. Remember the "good will" mechanism. If it remains low (up to 3, for a household Mac), then, do not worry. If it goes above, then try to quit some other user applications. An idle system reports numbers below 1.
These few sysadmin tips will tell you a lot about your system's health. Perhaps, you'll figure out by yourself what's wrong. For sure, not iDVD
Try perhaps upgrading to QT 7. There are benefits to that.
    T.

  • Ripping audio from dvd.

I did a brief search.. are you able to rip audio from a DVD with iDVD?

No! iDVD is for creating DVDs - that's all.

  • First song on cd won't rip

Has anyone encountered any problems with itunes not wanting to rip the first songs on cds? I find that I'll put a cd in and it'll try ripping the first song but nothing happens. The little bar doesn't advance. Eventually itunes moves to the rest of the songs and those rip fine. But the first song won't rip, even if I deselect all the other songs and just try to rip it alone. Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so do you have a solution to it?

  • My Zen Touch won't turn on or char

My Zen Touch won't turn on, nor will it charge.
    Here's what happened:
    . I hadn't used it for about a week
    2. I try to turn it on, and nothing happens. It's not locked.
    3. I plug it into the charger and nothing happens.
    4. I reset it, and the title screen appears. I wait for the title screen to disappear, but it doesn't. It doesn't charge either.
    5. I take out the charger and it turns off! I try to turn it back on and still nothing happens.
    6. I plug the charger back in and, yet again, the title screen appears but doesn't change or charge.
It seems like the battery life has run out, but it won't charge.
    WHAT CAN I DO!?

Nevermind, I just went and checked my mp3 player (I left it on the charger) and now it is charging. I conclude that the battery was dead and I was just impatient :P
    Thanks anyway.

  • ITunes 11.1 on Windows 8 will not play/rip audio CDs

    Problem:
I cannot play or rip audio CDs using iTunes on Windows 8. iTunes does not show any errors. It recognizes that I've put in an audio CD with tracks (and, in fact, matched the tracks in the iTunes database). When I click the Play button, it just skips from one song to the next.
    Stats:
    - OS: Windows 8 Media Edition/64-bit
    - BDRW: LG WH14NS40
    - iTunes: 11.0.1.126
    Background:
I built a computer and installed a BDRW. The BDRW uses Windows drivers, so no additional software was installed.
The burner reads CD/DVD data and video just fine (haven't tested with BluRay yet).
When I put an audio CD in, I couldn't listen to it in either iTunes or Windows Media Player.
After following the directions here -- http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-pictures/dvdcd-player -not-playing-audio-cds-win8-laptop/791e04c0-628e-42a8-8014-43cc782511a4 -- I could hear it on Windows Media Player, but not on iTunes.
I could not rip any music using iTunes: all it did was create a bunch of 1kb files.
    Question:
How could I have iTunes play Audio CDs again?
    Thanks in advance.

    Correction: iTunes 11.1.0.126, not 11.0.1.126
