Zen Vision M: 30g won't turn

Well, I've just about had it with Creative Mp3 players now. I just recently got my Zen Vision; now when I went to turn it on, expecting it to be fully charged from its dead battery, it shows that it hasn't even charged past the red bar. Then, when I go to turn it on, it won't turn on. It won't even turn on while connected to the computer. PLEASE, SOMEBODY TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!!!

Simple Instructions If the device isn t charging, try other ports on your computer. Often computers utilize passi've hubs on the motherboard to increase the number of USB ports; this can mean that the ports on the front of the computer are low power ports that can only put out 00ma and not the required 500ma.
More Technical Instructions
First you need to check to make sure that the power save is disabled on your USB ports on your computer.
Click Start then Run, and type devmgmt.msc then click OK
Expand Uni'versal Serial Bus Controllers
Right Click on Each entry in the list that says USB Root Hub and select properties
Go to the Power Management Tab
Uncheck the box that says Allow the Computer to Turn off this device to save power .
Next you need to see if your computer can actually charge a USB device, and where you should plug the device in.
Next click on the Power tab
Check the Hub Information Section and look at the description.
It should say something on the lines of Total Power Available: 500mA per port
If it says something else, then you have a problem and your computer might not be able to charge a USB device.
Now if you find you have one hub listed that has 500ma per port, and the other is something like 00ma. Then use a USB device (mouse, camera, etc) and plug it into each USB port.
When you have a device plugged into a port, you should see it show up in the attached devices window (under the Power tab). Find the ports on your system that are associated with the 500ma capable hub in your system.
Then plug your Zen device into that port.
If the battery of your Zen device is so depleted that it can't turn on, it won t show up in the attached device area but it should start charging.
After a couple of hours try turning on the device while its plugged in, if all goes well it should turn on and now be recognized.
It should show up under the attached devices section under the USB hubs power tab. If the port is working as it should the zen should show up as a pulling 500ma of power.
Note:
It is normal for the Creative labs device not to be recognized by the PC if the battery is completely dead. If the battery is dead it doesn't have enough power to turn on, so it can't be recognized by the PC.
It doesn't have to be recognized to charge, but it does need to be on a port that "can" charge it.
Untill the device has enough power to turn on it generally charges at a much slower rate. So it often can take much longer for the device to charge to the point where it can turn on, then it will take to charge the rest of the way once it is recognized by the PC. This is generally just a first time problem, as long as your don't drain the battery completly between charges.

Bought the unit, discounted because it'swas returned - indeed someone has used the reset slot a bit - but it's basically untouched and should work, but?after plugging it into the laptop for hours, I can't get it to turn on. The light flashes blue when it's plugged in but that's it. Called customer service, was supposed to get an email for resetting it somehow, but no email has come. What to do? Does the battery have to be swapped out? If I can't turn the unit on how can I do anyhting? Thanks for any ti
    ps.

I think somoene posted about this same problem earlier. Basically the battery was too weak to be initialized by the USB port of the computer. The Player first had to be charged via an AC adapter first.

Creative Zen Vision M 30g wont dockt Hello,
Purchased the above player off of ebay, the player works in everyway but will not dock with the computer. I bought this for my son for Christmas because I have one and love it. Mine docks with the computer but his will not. When I try to dock the connection will turn the player on but the docking symbol will not come on.
I have tried several different connector clips and usb cables and nothing, but all of the same clips and cables work just fine on mine. Also, when I use the wall charger for the player that does work and does charge.
Any suggestions, and also could for some reason could the connection part at the bottom of the player be damaged in some way?
Ive tried the reboot suggestion, Ive formated the player and nothing works.

Yes that could be .You may want to return to the seller if you can.Are you using WMP? Try opening Media Player & going to the sync tab to see if that helps it to load the driver for recognition.Formatting the player again could help also. In the past I have had to format more than once for a player to be seen by Windows.

  • Zen Vision:M 30GB won't power down; any ide

I've had a 30GB Zen Vision M for a couple of months now! Awesome player, went through the usual round of recognition problems, but it's been working fine of late. My problem is, it won't power down now. When I try to power down, the unit says it's powering down, the dispaly goes black except for the battery icon. And it stops there. The blue backlight on the menu buttons stays on, the battery icon stays on, and eventually it turns off after 5 minutes because of being idle. Not a terrible problem I know, but a real niusance. I am running the most current firmware (have been for a while). I've tried resetting and clean-up. No change. I'm afraid of trying to reinstall the firmware, in case I have the same problem that many others are having, and go from a good player with a power issue, to a player that does nothing. I can't see it being the power switch itself, since it powers up fine, and tries to power down. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. birder

  • Zen vision M problem wont work/turn on please h

Hi, I bought my dad an early christmas gift of a Zen vision M 20gb black mp3 player. I was using my zen micro mp3 charger to charge it because it was compatable so it was charging up the unit. After about 2 hrs i decided to turn on the unit and look at the functions of it. It played music and picture fine, but then i went to the video function and clicked play on the unit. The screen went black, and the battery bar in the top right corner dissapeared. The clicking sound from the scroll wheel was still working but nothing else was working. We tried turning it off from the swith up top but that didnt work, then we tried using the reset button thingy at the bottom and still no luck. What is the problem if anyone knows thanks for your information and input. The software wasnt installed on the computer or registered yet if that means anything.

I just got the Zen Version:M 30 GB for Christmas and after charging the thing for 6 hours, I seem to be having the same issue that a lot of folks are having ?It doesn?t seem to work when unplugging the device from the A/C charger?. I noticed that the device wasn?t charging and on the unit it was displaying an ?A/C plug? icon (means that the unit is fully charged and running of AC power) and not the ?battery / lightning bolt? icon as it should when charging.
    The Fix:
Upgrade the device?s firmware. I was running ver. .0.xx (shipped with this version). After downloading the updated firmware for my Zen M to the latest version (.6.0), my device started to charge. I now see a battery / lightning bolt icon indicating that the device is now charging.
    Firmware can be downloaded at:

  • Zen Vision M (30Gb) will not turn

My Vision:M is 6 months old. I used it last 2 days ago. It won't turn on. I tried connecting it to my PC and tried recharging it - no response from the player. Any suggestions other than throwing it away?

What ubs port or you using? If it is one in the front use one in the rear. It may take some time( few hours) for it start charging if battery is REALLY dead. Or if you have a wall charger for it use that instead. Next option if battery has finally really died from just being worn out (they don't last forever) buy & install a new one? here's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akJDRpx6rA8 ? a how to open player (if not under warranty)? here's http://www.infinitybatteries.com/p-4...n-polymer.aspx where to get a new battery.

  • Help With Zen Vision:M 30G, lost alot of music, "rebuilding" progress bar doesnt fin

I purchased my Zen Vision:M 30GB player about 5 months ago and its been great untill today I turned it on and it froze, so i hit the reset button.
Heres the thingI reset it and that "Rebuilding" progress bar poped up like it has in the past when i hit reset? But this time the progress bar only got about? /6th of the way full, before the unit returned to its normal menu, and i went to look at my music and about 90% of it is gone! Ive done a restart in the past and the rebuilding progress bar would have to fill up all the way before it would go to the normal menu and i had no problems with it then, just today it started doing the thing where it would only go /6th the way. Heres the weird stuff,I went to look at the system information to look how much memory was left and based on the numbers, my 90% of missing music should still be on there somewhere. I tried connecting it to my computer and all the sudden now my computer decides to recognize it but The Creative Media Explorer will say its not connected, that is a first for me too?I tried doing that system recovery thing, where i did the scan disk but that did not help at all. Everytime i try to re-boot or re-start it does that thing where the "Rebuilding" progress bar only goes /6th of the way before it goes back to the normal menu, i think that has somthing to do with it. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated?Message Edited by Lowalkoroc on 03-7-20070:20 PM

I was just about to post a topic about this. I had the same problem and after numerous efforts I decided to follow the "Format (All)" instructions [url="http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=5530#M5530">here[/url]. After a reformat, a reboot, and a reload of all my songs everything is working again. Thank the Lord and the Creative forums.

  • Zen Vision M 30G will not connect to

New at this, please bear with me.
My player worked just fine, unfortunately I don't have a car charger and after a long trip killed the battery. I return home, plug the player into my computer and nothing happens. I get frustrated, try everything, even going from USB port to USB port to get the thing to charge... nothing.
I leave it plugged in for a week and forget about it for?a few days. Well, it's charged, I'm happy about that, however I'm not very happy that it is not being recognized by my computer. Nope, no docking symbol, nothing. When I open the program it tells me the device is not connected. So again I try it in every port available and nothing. I do get a symbol within the battery symbol that sort of looks like a plug in, but no lightning bolt or dock symbol. (I guess it won't give me a lightning bolt if it's fully charged, right? (duh)).
I even uninstalled and installed the software on my computer thinking this is the problem, checked the USB ports through the control panel(...), I get nothing.
Anyone, please help. By the way, I am not a computer expert, nor am I an MP3 expert, I just want this thing to work so I don't have to go out and buy a new one. This one is only a year old and I only use it in my vehicle on long tri
    ps.
(PLEH!? That's help backwards, this is a serious problem)

This has happened to me a few times with my vision m. First, is your firmware updated?
    Driver Removal/Reinstallation
If this is not your first time plugging your ZVM into that computer, and it had worked before, then it is likely your system's driver cache has gotten corrupted. Windows has the occasional habit of "forgetting" things that it had recognized in the past. You will have to uninstall and reinstall the driver. To do this:
Plug your ZVM into the USB port, if it isn't already.<
Go to Windows' Device Manager by right-clicking on "My Computer" and selecting "Properties" (alternati'vely, if you are not running in "Start Menu Classic View" mode, then open your Control Panel from the Start Menu, select "Performance and Maintenance", and selecting "System"). From there, select the "Hardware" tab, and click "Device Manager".<
Locate the entry for "Creative Zen Vision:M" in the device list. It should be located under "Portable Devices".<
Right-click the "Creative Zen Vision:M" entry, and select "Uninstall".<
When the entry disappears, unplug your player, and wait several seconds.<
Plug your player back in. The "Found New Hardware" wizard should come up. Allow it to locate and install the driver automatically.<
Windows Media Player on Windows XP
If you are running Windows XP and have updated your Windows Media Player to WMP from WMP0, and you start encountering connectivity issues, you may have a conflict between WMP and your Creative software. There are three possible solutions for this:
Download and install the update patch for Creative Media Explorer, which can be found on the appropriate download page on Creative's website. This makes the Creative software compatible with WMP's MTP driver.<
Completely uninstall all Creative software and use WMP instead. If the problem persists, reinstall WMP.<
    Roll-back WMP back to WMP0.<
    Docked, but Not Recognized
If your player is showing all the signs of being docked, but your computer isn't seeing it, then try performing a Disk Cleanup from the ZVM's Recovery Mode menu. As a last resort when nothing else has worked, you may need to reformat your ZVM - also from Recovery Mode. Note that you will lose all of your media files when you reformat.
you might want to check out http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=0960 for more info about this. I wish i bookmark the thread that i have on the creative forum about this same exact problem. search it up if u can.

  • Zen Vision M Explorer won't import fi

I have the Zen Vision Media Explorer loaded on two Win XP Home computers. I upgraded both to WMP . I was having trouble syncing some audio files to another mp3 player on my main computer, so I rolled WMP back to version 9. Ever since then the import wizard doesn't work. It says it's transferring files, but it just sits there. There's nothing wrong with the player, as I can transfer files using the other computer. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Zen Vision M Explorer, but it still won't?import files. How do I fix this?

I was able to solve this myself, and I will go through the solution in case anyone else has this problem. Reinstalling the Zen Vision Explorer software with no result indicated to me that there was something else causing the problem. I discovered that simply uninstalling WMP via Add/Remove Programs (i.e., rolling the player back to the earlier version) isnt enough, although at this point WMP 9 seemed to function properly. According to a Microsoft KB article Readme for Windows Media Player for Windows XP, rolling the player back also requires removing two more files from Add/Remove Programs, Windows Media Format Runtime and Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack .0.0. (Now doing these last two uninstalls also messes up WMPs DRM component, so that certain wma files wont play, in my case digital books. I had to find a security component upgrade for WMP 9 on Microsofts website and run it to get WMP fully functioning again.) Before I made any of these changes I had uninstalled the Zen Vision Explorer. I now reinstalled it, the result being, the import wizard works again.

  • Zen Vision:M 30G locked in Recovery M

I was ripping a CD over to my ZVM30 today and hit a hiccup. The rip closed fairly normally but wasn't able to rip everything I had selected. No biggie right? little glitch. I close out the rip function, close out the ZVM30 browsing software and disconnect player. It goes through and updates directories. While it's updating directories it powers down....still no biggie other than it didn't finish the update before powering down. Now I can't get a normal boot on the player. I'm locked in Recovery Mode when I turn it on. I tried the reset button but I still start in Recovery Mode. I'm well over a half hour into a clean up mode "scan disk" and wondering what step to take next.
Is all lost? Do I reformat? Can I do a firmware reinstall and save what files are on the player??It's got me scratching my head....any suggestions from?my fellow frustrated ZVM30 owners??P.S. I'm thinking it would be helpful for you to know that even though I'm locked in recovery mode on the player I am getting connection recognition in the Creative Media Browser program. Can't access anything through it but it's showing I am connecting.Message Edited by xanthisenara on 08-2-2007:59 AM

I am having the same problem. My original problem occurred after I saw the symbol that has the player and a warning sign. I found that the battery had drained completely while in my pocket, I am not sure how it got on or stayed on, probably a series of accidents. But I recharged it to full and then I got recovery mode when I started it up. Whenever I try to format all or reload firmware it says that I have a hard disk problem. But I cannot get the zen vision m explorer to recognize the player is connected. The player knows that it is docked, and my laptop knows that it is connected(checked my computer) but not the explorer. Also when I tried to load the newest firmware, it says the player is not there. My scan disk is also taking a long time.Message Edited by seifo on 08-2-2007:04 AM

  • IPod Video 30G Won't turn off, any suggestions?

My daughter has an iPod Video 30G player. All of the sudden this morning, the thing won't shut down. She presses and holds the section on the wheel that is supposed to turn the thing off and nothing happens.
Everything else works fine. The songs all play, the menu, forwarding through songs, etc... The only problem is the thing won't turn off.
    Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I have exactly the same problemo.
While i'm jogging, my 30gig video ipod will freeze up cold and I have to let the battery completely drain before I can use the thing. The odd thing is that it only freezes after a song finishes (very considerate). None of the buttons work, nada.
Is there a way to reset the thing short of waiting all day for the battery to drain...or is it time to sell it on eBay and buy a new one?????

  • Zen Vision M 30G Compatability Iss

I've recently reinstalled XP onto what used to be a Vista computer and found that my Creative Zen Vision M wont show up in windows explorer when I connect it Via USB.
I know it is not the MP3 player causing the issue as it works fine with other Vista and XP computers. I have Windows Media Player installed but unfortunately I have lost the installation CD and so cannot install the drivers.
Any help that be given as to where I can download the drivers or how to get it to show up in Windows explorer would be appreciated.

    Hi,
I managed to fix this issue by installing some drivers on XP using the disk that came with computer. The driver enabled some USB devices to work in windows explorer.
Chris u mite be have the same problem if u have recently reinstalled XP or u might not have WMP 0 or higher installed.
    Hope that helps

  • My zen vision m 30gb won't charge or turn on without p

I have had it for about 2 years.
I haven't used it for about a week during which time it has been completely out of battery power. I plug the charger into the mp3 and the the lightning bolt shows on the zen? but even after leaving it on charge for a good few hours overnight when i unplug it, it just goes dead, and won't come on.
I then tried to charge it through the usb on my pc but it gets no power to the player. and therefore w0on't come on.
I then tried resetting the zen and doing the above two again but got the sdame outcome.
So i tried the the recovery method which wiped my zen free of everything ( i had backups, thankfully).
Tried the first two thiong again but to no avail.
I can do the last option which is the firmware option, because i can't connect to a pc.
Has my zen mgone kaput or can it be saved?!
    tHANKS in advance
