Zen Vision: M Charging Probl

I bought a Zen Vision: M six or seven months ago, and since then the player has been great, my only problem with it is it is notorious for freezing when I try to change songs. This happens rarely, but when it does I have to do a full system reset.
Anyways, the devise froze on me a few hours ago. I reset it, and when i tried to play it, it only had 20 songs out of my original 500+!! Naturally, I freaked out. I went on the Creative support site, and did a system cleanup because the player wasnt charging or being docked correctly (I figured I would just reload my music). When the cleanup was done, all my music was back! I then tried to dock it, but it wouldn't (and still wont) dock correctly. When I dock it, the player says that its charging (has the little lightning bolt symbol on the top right corner) but it did NOT have the large symbol in the middle saying that it was docked and ready to transfer music. I have tried this on both my laptop and desktop, but the both do the same thing. Both computers do not even recognize that it is there.
I have already sent in a customer support email, but I figured a forum post couldn't hurt either. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks a bunch in advance!

Please help...anyone!!I love my Zen Vision:M, and up to this point it has been fantastic.... I really don't want to purchase a different player. Our whole household owns various Creative MP3 players, and I doubt I will ever switch to another brand, but I really need help in figuring out how to repair my Vision M!!? I'll be happy to take any suggestions!

  • Zen Vision: M freezing probl

My 30 gb Zen Vision: M has frozen twice now, where the screen completely freezes on one song and no matter what I press, nothing happens.
When it first happened, I simply let it die out of batteries and charged it up full and it was good...but this time, I did that over 5 times and still its frozen
I let it die out, then charge it to the fullest, turn it up, screen says "Rebuilding" then it goes to that same screen of the song where it froze...is there anything I can do here to fix the problem? I really don't want to lose my songs..

The steps to enter recovery mode can be found on top of the board.

  • MAJOR Zen Vision: M 30GB PROBLE

First, when trying to recover my computer after some problems, the software no longer worked with my ZEN. I didn't want to install another Service Pack and potentially lose everything else I had, so I just started using Windows Media Player to add music. No problem. Here's where the fun began.
The other night, while playing music, my player froze while shuffling to another song. I mean, it froze in the middle of shifting from one song to another. I had never seen that before. I was concerned when I saw it, but I figured I would just restart and everything would come back up. After it "rebuilt" the library, I was surprised (to say the least) to see that my player had reverted back to the original factory settings. Playlists, videos, pictures and music were all gone according to the player. Yet, when I went to MUSIC LIBRARY, all the albums were there but the artwork was gone. When you would play a song, the screen just read "Select Music to PLAY from the Music Library" as if no music was on the player. Very odd, but it can't get any worse than that, right? Read on.
After a couple of days of this, I finally decided to see what I could do to fix it. I connected the Zen to my computer, only to not have it recognized at all, and, freeze after 2 minutes each & everytime after I reboot/restore. I've found the XNJB program for my iMac instead of changing the whole system around on my PC, and it looks like this would work beautifully with the ZEN. Therefore, what I'm looking for is a way to completely reformat the Zen without the aid of a computer. I would use the new Rescue tool, but since my PC doesn't recognize it, that doesn't help me.
I fought it for so long, but Steve Jobs & Apple have finally won me over. I installed music on a friend's 80GB iPod and pretty much fell in love. I will miss the FM radio and voice recorder on the ZEN, but its a small price to pay for FREE SUPPORT (are you listening, Creative?) and tons of official & aftermarket accessories. Once all of my options are gone, and I have no choice but to turn to Creative for help, pay for their "support", send back my Zen, etc., I will purchase an 80GB iPod for what I paid for a 30GB ZEN Vision: M. Creative, I gave you a try, and I always support the underdog, but Apple's on top for a reason.
I've already paid for Creative's help which was anything but helpful, so I'm leaving it up to everyone out there. If anyone has any ideas on what I can do to try and recover this $300 paperweight on my desk, please let me know at: [email protected]
    Thanks!

PS - Should I get the 80GB iPod Classic or the iPod Touch? I know there's 0X the storage space on the classic, but the iPod touch has Wi-Fi web browsing. Let me know!

Warranty? You can sell it to someone too. Ebay might work!
I would get the 80GB classic. The touch doesn't have as much storage and I think the price is just ridiculous.
    Good luck with your search!!
(did you contact costumer support to see if they could fix your Zen?)

  • Zen Vision:M Import Probl

I just got my new zen vision:M a few days ago and when I connected it to my computer it wouldn't pop up at all, even after I downloaded all the software from the CD's so I ended up updating the drivers which made it so the computer would actually detect it... But now.. I have a different problem, when I go to the ZEN Vision:M Series Media Explore and click " Add Media" and then add all the media I want on it then click next and then the import screen pops up and it just sits there.. Sooo I couldn't add any of my tracks or anything, however I did go to my computer and then went to " My Zen" and just copied and pasted some stuff but I still really want to know why can't I add music and files from the Zen Media Explore?? With my other zens it seemed a bit more convenient to import them through the Media Explore, I also tried going to windows media player, I believe I have version 0 or and my player can't be detected there either for syncing.
    Thanks

i am not real smart about these things, but i just bought vision m and am running vista, i had many probs some like yours, when i called in they said you can't use the cd that came in the package, you have to install from the web site. first for the zen, then for the components ie: library? rec play for sure media explorer. etc. i suggust u contact zen, cause i am not sure at all if this applies.

  • Prolbem with my Zen vision M Charg

MY?NEW ZVM WON'T CHARGE!!! there is no battery icon with bolt?on the upper rt. corner of the screen but there is the plug icon instead.i trry to use the USB but notthing happens--not even the blue light. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I had the same problems with a new Vision M. Charged it for a weekend and no good. Returned it and my replacement had the same problems.
the unit powers up from AC but did not show any battery charging symbol.
I took to the Forums and saw mention of a firmware upgrade. I was at .32xx and the upgrade was for .6xx
I downloaded the firmware, connected the player to AC to power it up and also to the PC via USB. Ran the firmware exe and after a few minutes and an automatic player reboot the charge icon appeared.....
All is fixed ! Saw plenty of posts in forums about this battery issue and yet no official mention from Creti've about it. What's that about ?

  • HERES HOW TO SOLVE THE ZEN VISION M CHARGING PROBLEM - WITHOUT SPENDING MORE CA

    Hi all,
this advice is targeted at people charging with a laptop, and the dam player wont charge
the problem is that (with xp anyway) that the usb ports are programed for the power to be killed of when a device is not connected to the ports with sufficient charge to be recognized. heres how to fix this
    go to control panel/system/hardware/device manager
then scroll and find uni'versal serial bus controllers (the flashy name for USBs) it was right down the bottom for me
open it up and you we see 2 or more "USB root hubs" this is the controller of the USB ports - right click on the first one and select its properties
this is where it may differ for some but - either under the "power" or "power management" tab untick the box which allows the computer to cut the power to the usb
now repeat this for the remaining "USB root hubs" and bobs your uncle
just plub in the vision then after a short moment try turning it on or it might load automatic
hope this cures alot of rag - it cured mine
ps - i would recommend particularly with a laptop to go back and tick the power boxs on the usb root hub properties so, when you go to use a laptop as one, the battery last longer
    cheers

I thought this post was the answer to my prayers after struggling with my new Zen M all night, wondering why it won't charge!
still though, I plug it into usb, only the blue light flashes... then SOMETIMES after 20 minutes or so, the battery indicator will come on, in most dead battery icon, with lighting bolt / charging symbol. Then SOMETIMES after another 5-0 minutes, it'll boot and start playing some demo song on there I guess. But then after another 2-3 minutes (times are all estimates btw), it seems to shut down, and goes back to just the blinking blue light, and I can't manually boot it or anything!
Im ready to send it back, and NOT get another one! For 3 bucks cost, they couldn't include a simple receptacle plug connected to a wire, connected to a transformer, connected to an electrical outlet plug (A $3 CHARGER!!)? Ugh.
any more help, ideas, suggestions, or prognosis, its much appreciated
    Chris

  • Zen Vision :M Recognition Probl

First of all please dont refer me to charge my Zen to full or look at the knowledge base because these arent the soloutions to my problem.
After i reset my Zen once when it wasnt responding, it failed to recognise that it was plugged into the computer. It charges and says its docked, but doesnt appear in my computer and media explorer simply stays greyed out. Windows Media Player doesnt recognise its existence either. After looking at the knowledge base the only thing of any interest to my problem was to look in device manager and unistall what it clearly stated as creative zen from the device manager list. After doing so i searched for hardware changes like prompted and ever since when plugged in, my computer tells me thats its found new hardware, listing it as a MTP Device and nothing more. In my Device Manager its listed as a MTP device and has a constant error mark over it showing that it has no drivers or software with it.
A reinstall of all the software included with the Zen hasnt helped and as i know no way of formatting the Zen without it being connected to the computer im stuck in a tight space.
Another fact is while it is connected it doesnt stay connected fluidly it constantly prompts the computer that its new, the on screen arrows are always moving round and the found new hardware bubble is constantly renewed.
Its a hard problem to solve and im a bit stumped. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.Message Edited by jonpoynton on 08-08-20070: AM

I've discovered a way around this mess!
It may be back to basics but its like starting again. Dont worry about reinstalling your software leave it all on format your zen by holding the power switch left and keeping it held there, place a paper clip or the like in the reset hole and you should aget a menu select format all.
WARNING, this will get rid of all your data.
When rebooting your Zen it will still have custom backgrounds EQing etc, you need to get rid of this by going to system / reset settings.
Now when you plug in your device it will come up with the formiddable found new hardware MTP Device. Gi've it a few seconds however and it will show, Your new hardware has been successfully installed and is ready to use. You can then open Media explorer/ sync manager etc and be on your way!
So im afraid the only soloution is to reset everything to the max and start again.
Hope this helps, i know alot of people have had similar problems.Message Edited by jonpoynton on 08-08-20070:46 AM

  • Zen Touch first-charge probl

    Hello,
I have received a Zen Touch, and I plugged it in to charge it for the first time, but no battery meter appears to tell me how it is charging. When I turn it on while it is plugged in, the icon at the upper left is the plug only, which means that it is simply running off of external power...nothing about it being charged. Any help would be appreciated, maybe some of you have suggestions or stories about your first charge. The player works fine when it is plugged in, but it doesn't appear to be charging.

If your battery isn't charging you should first try resetting the player. If this doesn't help then try running a disk cleanup. For the Zen Touch: To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. For the Zen Micro: To access the Rescue Mode on the Zen Micro, remove the battery, hold the power switch to the "on" position, reinsert the battery. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu.
If this still doesn't help then connect the transformer to the wall socket, and the Zen to the transformer. Then turn the wall socket switch on and off several times. The power spike *might* jump the charging circuit.
If this still doesn't help then contact Customer Support.

  • Help with the Zen Vision M Charg

I just got a multifunction cable and when i pluged my ZVM into my windows XP nothing happens. I have a Creative Media Source but my screen remains black. The woman on the help line says it takes up to 4-6 hrs before the player can work again if the battery is fully drained. Is this true. I have had it in now for almost more than 5 hrs( i un pluged it a couple of times and tried to turn it on) Has this ever happened to anyone else. What is wrong what can i do and is my player broken? Please help

    Trollheart2006 wrote:
If your battery drains completely, then I'm told recharging from the USB socket won't work (though others here have disputed that). Usually the ZVM takes anything up to 8 - 0 hours to charge fully, so my advice is leave it charging overnight. If it's still dead in the morning, get an AC adaptor and plug it into the wall, try again.
^I forgot to turn my Zen Micro off last night after I unplugged it from my car's stereo last night. It ran all night in my coat pocket and had the Low Battery warning when I looked at it in the morning.
I plugged it into a USB port, it started charging and now has 2 bars after being plugged in for a while. USB charging will work with a dead battery, though I don't recommend letting your battery run flat too often.
Normally I don't let it run down and keep the battery 'topped up' after each use.

  • ZEN Vision:M 30GB Probl

At work, I tried to listen to music, but my headphones were busted, so I turned my ZEN off and set it down. About 5 minutes later I looked back at it and it was still on, but all the menus were blank. I tried turning it off again with no success. I used the reset button, and it brought me to the recovery menu after the ZEN logo was on the screen for a few minutes. That happens every time I try to restart it or turn it on or off. I used the menu to erase the firmware, and now that I'm at my computer, none of the Creative programs recognize it, even though my computer does. I've tried to update the firmware with the installer, but it won't let me because it doesn't detect the device. I've tried all the tutorials I could find on this site and none of them worked. Any help would be appreciated.

No idea on the problem but still, try formatting it.

  • Zen Vision M: Unable to charge. Nearly to give product back (forev

    Hello,
I purchased a Zen Vision M two weeks ago. When I arri've at home I installed the software successfully and then connected the Zen Vision M to my USB poert on my laptop (Win XP Pro SP2) to charge it; no sign of life. No display activity and NO LED CHARGE ACTIVITY. I letf the ZVM an entire night to see if things changed, but no success. I've tried the following:
    - Disable power saving on usb port: no sign of life
    - Gave everyone permission on usb port: no sign of life
    - Push reset button and the recharge: no sign of life
    - Tried on a different PC: no sign of life
So I retuned to the shop and:
    - We checked with a differnt cable and with a desktop on the shop: no sign of life.
I asked to change the ZVM with another one. Yesterday, after TWO WEEKS of delay (because the shop had to order since it was the last ZVM they had), I had the new ZVM. Result: NO SIGN OF LIFE once again.
    Note that:
    - my USB ports (of both laptop) works perfectly with other devices
    - my usb ports have power: I have a USB PC Lamp, and a USB Optical Mouse and they works perfectly.
    - I let the ZMV connected to the USB port always more than 8 hour. The Laptop power option was set to avoid hybernate or suspend status
    - No application was running during charge
I tryed to find a phone tech support, but - despite the statement on the creative site - in italy there is no phone support, just via e-mail.
If the customer support will not able to resolve the problem I'll give my ZVM back (forever) and I will ask my money back.
My percption of the problem is that the ZVM have battery completed depleted and USB is not able to provide enough power to charge. But the fact that not even the LED id flashing let me with no clue.
I kindly ask the community if someone had the same problems, and if there are any suggestion that AT LEAST let my charge led flashing.
Sorry, for the long post, but I'm really upset with the whole situation.
    Thank you in advance.
    Riccardo

I am new to these forums. So bear with me. I am in the Oz outback.
In a possible answer to your problem IlRiccardo I purchased two Zen Vision M units this past week with the same problem. I returned the first unit and got my money back. I purchased a second unit from a different supplier in a another town. Same problem again The second time I did read the supplied booklets in more detail pouring over every word. I found what the symbols in the top right of the screen was suppose to mean. I did purchase units with the Creative supplied powerpack. I was able power the unit up on the external power pack.
    Q. Do you have a symbol that looks like a plug with two prongs on it's
Q2. What is the version number of the installed firmware?
I had that symbol on the top right of the screen. I found through a small Product Information booklet that it was to indicate a fully charged battery and operating on external power. RUBBISH (to the charged battery) as it was a brand new unit. The firmware version installed in both ZENs was .30.xx (cannot remember the last two digits).
I checked the Creative FAQ pages at my daughter's place (in town where I purchased second unit) and found a page listing most of the same symptons as I was experiencing. The download page was talking about a version .50.xx. The link was for a downloadable version of .6.0.
Subsequently I did download the update file and installed it. Low and behold my ZEN Vision M now showed the symbol for a charging battery. The unit did charge up and is working on the battery. Firmware Version .6.0
Check with your supplier/shop where you purchased your ZEN to see if this action will void the warranty? My supplier is suggesting it has!!!!. I hope I don't have to go down the warranty path for any reason.
Hope this helps you and others.
I have post an almost similarly worded reply in another thread about "not charging" SO it is a firmware version issue in my view.

  • Creative Zen Vision M no longer charges with the wall char

I have had a zen vision M for about 5 months and have never had a problem with it til now. I was listening to it this morning and realised it needed charging so i plugged in the charger as well and all was fine. It seemed to charge for awhile and then it stopped and the charge went backwards. Now every time i plug in the wall charger (that came with the player when i bought it in July 2006) it just shows as being on AC power unless i hold it in a specific position. I have it plugged into my computer at the moment and it seems to be charging. the blue light is on and the battery is showing as charging. How do i know if its a problem with my charger or not - i tried my PSP charger as i had seen that in some posts on here and the same thing happened. I think its something internal. I don't want to send it anywhere as of course its out of warranty and i don't want to pay for anything.Anyone have any ideas. I read something about firmware fixing battery charging ability but then it wipes out FM recording - not that i use it that much but i still use it.Anyway im wondering if anyone has any ideas or if anyone else has had the same problem. I searched high and low but i could only find people with charging problems when they first bought the units.Any help would be appreciated as i like to listen to it at work and my work computer won't accept my player as im not an administrator so i can't install it etc. I need to be able to charge it either at home or at work so i can listen to it. Thanks for your time in advance, i really hope someone can help me as i love this groovy player and i just lectured my sister the other day on how much better than an ipod it is and now it goes and does this. Thanks again

It seems to have fully charged. I left it on while i went out and it now says it has full battery although it still seems to be charging. Does that mean there could be a problem with the AC charger slot on the adapter? Is there any way to buy a new adapter? if that seems to be the problem. If i upgrade to the latest firmware can i go back to the original if necessary?

  • Creative Zen Vision M not fully charging

(Creative Zen Vision M not fully charging( Hi, I recently bought a refurbished ZVM that doesnt seem to charging properly. When I first got it, it hadnt been charged in quite some time so the battery was overdead. My PC couldnt detect it when I connected it via usb and it didnt even start charging at all. I then connected it to a wall charger and it finally started charging. The strange thing is it never fully charges. I've charged it twice now, both times for at least about 2 hours, and the battery doesnt go more than 50%. And when I connect it to my PC to transfer songs, instead of resuming its charge, my battery runs out. Is this a case of a faulty battery? I li've in Australia and I bought it from the USA. I would prefer not to go through the trouble of returning it if I could. Anything I should do like leaving it to charge for an even longer time? Also one more thing I should mention. When I remove the wall charger and plug it back in, it takes the ZVM sometime to detect it, about 30 minutes or so, and start charging again. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem. I just mailed mine in for repair today.
