Zen Vision M errors with USB Recognit

Alright I had my Zen Vision now for over and a half years and I've loved it and it always worked perfectly beside some headphone issues. But today I go to plug my Zen into my computer and it doesn't start charging it nor does my computer recognize that something has been plugged into my USB port. The charging is not an issue for me because my Zen came with the DC power wall charger but I can't get any music onto my player. The funny thing is though that when the player is turned off and I connect it to the computer it turns on as if it was going to start charging and syncing but it just never gets to it.
I tried all USB ports in the back and it the front and its not a power issue because its fully charged due to the wall charger. It works great and I tried reseting it to the point where is rebuilt itself and I'm in the process of draining the battery then recharging it to see if that helps but I doubt it since the reseting didn't help. I can't add firmware and I refuse to format it if I even can do it from just the player which I dont know if I can because I have too much music on there.
Could it be an issue with the adapter that switches from DC charger to A/V output and USB? I don't know if its an issue with the adapter because the DC charger works so I don't know. I bought the extended warranty so thats not an issue but is the adapter covered in the warranty? Any help would be great and I'm a dedicated Creative fan thinking about getting the Stone Plus or another smaller player so I hope I can fix this issue here.
Thanks.

would you like to try this? works for melink

  • Zen Vision M:60 with USB host and Panasonic Camcorder SDR-

I own a Panasonic Camcorder SDR-S0 which stores its data on a SD card. I'm thinking about buying the Zen Vision M:60 to use it as a sort of "imagetank" for importing the videos when on vacation. Normally the data on the SD card are transferred by connecting the camera to the PC & transferring them with the Panasonic software MotionSD studio .2E. Another possibility is using Pictbridge. The resulting format of the recorded data is mpeg2.When on vacation I don't have my PC with me & I would like to transfer the data on the Vision M:60. I read that for importing photos this should not give any problems, but no trace of user experience of importing video, without passing thru a PC. I did following test to check which sort of data are on the SD card before transmission to the PC, by reading the SD card with a USB cardreader?: it contained data with .MODextenstion (which is apparently a MPEG-2 codec), .MOI?extension files (which I think is not?needed) & a .PGI file?(which I think is needed?for?graphics printers ?). I copied one?MOV00B.MOD file to my PC and tried to play it. I succeeded without any problem to play it on Windows Media Player. My question : does anyone has any experience with the transfer of this sort of data to the Zen Vision M:60 using the USB host connected either to the digital camcorder or to a cardreader and then importing the .MOD files. If so, could the data be played back on the Vision M:60 ?Thanks for your help ?[color="#ff0000"]As I want to buy the Zen Vision M:60 (bargain price :smileytongue I hope someone with experience on this matter will respond urgently as I leave on holiday next week !!! According to the list of tested products here:?http://www.creative.com/products/pro...24&product=433?it's been tested on both Nikon Coolpix P3?and Nikon D200. So?I'd make the assumption that it probably does. It works with my Fuji S5600, and the list above shows they?only tested ?E900 and A600.

  • Replaced Zen Vision:M 30gb with same ~ Is it necessary to uninstall/remove original progra

So my Zen Vision:M 30 GB crashed and died a horrible death recently. I made the HUGE mistake of not holding onto my original receipt (duh) so even though it falls under warranty, I can't prove it. OK, that's my bad. I loved my Zen while it was working well so I decided to get another one. I really wanted the 60 GB but Creative Customer Support told me in no uncertain terms that the slimmer version would not be released in the US soon or, possibly, ever. (What's up with that ) So I just want to go back to my happy place with my music. I'm ready to get all set up with my new player. BUT ~ do I need to remove all programs related to Creative and reinstall with the new CD provided with my new Zen It would make sense to do so, I suppose. Start from scratch. But I see four programs listed as Creative in my computer. They are:Creative MediaSourceCreative Removable Disk ManagerCreative System InformationCreative Zen Vision M Will I create a problem by removing all four Is there another program I'm not thinking of that should be removed I rolled back to WMP 0 because I read of so many problems with updating firmware and WMP . Now I read there's a fix in WMP and it's OK to reinstall. Anybody want to speak to that Should I dowload firmware right away So many questions... I just really want to get it right this time and enjoy my Zen life once again. Thanks!AFH

If I would have to venture a guess I would assume that there is an IRQ/Interrupt problem going on with your USB controller on your system.
This can can happen due to the system sharing the IRQ that the USB ports are on with other devices, or sometimes be the result of having an older USB driver or an older driver on a device that shares the IRQ with the USB ports.
Going to a slower hub is most likely slowing down the IRQ request rate (due to slower data rate) which keeps the system from becomming unstable. You might want to check out this thread here for some hints on things to try.
The gentleman in that thread was getting "blue screens" and reboots but its most likely the same basic type of problem.http://forums.creative.com/creativel...uery.id=490850

  • Does the Zen Vision M come with the A/C power adapter in the

I'm getting a Zen Vision M, and was lead to understand it comes with an A/C adapter for recharging. Looking in Creative's shop and on amazon.co.uk , this is the list of package contents:
    ZEN Vision:M?
    Earphones
    Sync Adapter
    USB Mini-B Cable
    Pouch
    Installation CD
    User?s Manual</LI>
Does this mean it does NOT come with an A/C adapter? I really hope by 'sync adapter' they mean the A/C adapter as well?

I bought mine from Amazon when they first came out, package included the AC, USB cable and the dongle.
I've also recently bought the cradle which came with an USB cable.
The first version (mine) came with a small dongle to attach to the bottom of the ZV:M which had slots for AC, USB and AV - the cradle is the same thing but enables the ZV:M to be sat upright on its own.
I'm guessing that Creative are going down the iPlod route and providing the capacity to charge whilst docked, but external power as an extra cost.
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/shop/p...asp?product=24 shows the cradle
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/shop/p...asp?product=23 shows the dongle
The cradle description suggests that the AC is included, but it's not totally clear - I certainly didn't get an extra AC when I bought the cradle in April.
Best thing to do is to give them a call (0800 376 7954 so free in the UK) and ask if a plug is in either of the above packages.

  • Zen Vision:M - help with moving files around once loa

Guys and Gals, i recently bought the Zen Vision:M and need some help. Once i loaded songs or vdos into it i find that i am not able to move these files from one folder to another. I am using the zen vision explorer program that came with it. it allows me to right click then select 'cut' or 'copy' but then when i navigate to where i want to paste it the paste option is greyed out when i right click. anyone have a solution for this? any help would be greatly appreciated.

it sucks... you want a song in one folder like the album into another right? Yeah you have to modify the ID tags to do that.... I took all my songs and changed the album name to ALL for my zvm using snackamp. Look it up it works fine. You can choose the songs you want to a particular album (works for 200 at a time) and choose the album for them all. Thats the only advantage of iPod i'd have to say... the ALL option under songs... so yeah get snackamp, use it, take all the songs off your zen and re-add them and it should be fine.

  • Airport Extreme n: error with USB HDD; Update 5.1 crashes

Ok, seems to be a few bugs for me:
I have no Macs as yet, so operating with an old IBM T30 WinXP laptop until WWDC in June when (hopefully) Steve will announce a new MBP
    1) Cannot connect to my 300Gb Maxstor external HDD, keep getting the 'disk needs repair' error with the Airport Utility. It's previously formatted to NTFS, cannot format to FAT32 as the volume is too big according to Windows....
    2) I can't update the Utility to 5.1 so can't update the Firmware either. Have tried unsuccessfully to update to 5.1 but when I do, it just crashes when I try to run it so I'm stuck with v5.0 for the meantime.
Any ideas or peeps getting the same from their Windows machines ?
Most important for me is to see the external HD, it's got all my media on it.
    Cheers in advance

    Hi!
I've found a good tutorial that can help you format harddrives to FAT32, for volumes under 2TB. You have to download a small application called fat32format.exe, and execute it in a command prompt in Win XP. But take a look at the tutorial:

  • Zen Vision M 60 GB Not recognized by computer period

To sum it up I basically had a zen I got on warranty (4th one I got I believe *sigh*) sitting in storage for about a year since I had an ipod. I tried ordering a sync cable since I lost my original one and I recieved a charger which basically didn't even power/charge the thing (and I got it for $3 so didn't bother complaining). I eventually tried ordered another sync cable which came a few days later and seemed to work just fine. The only problem is my computer isn't recognizing the player at all. It's like it's not even connected to the computer. It charges the player just fine and it's been at full power for about a day now. But besides that I can't sync, transfer, see ANYTHING in device manager, etc.
I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 3. I've tried using WMP and rolled back to 0 neither of which have worked. I used clean disc and formatted several times now which hasn't done anything. I'm not going to reload firmware seeing how the thing won't connect to the computer anyway. I've tried using pretty much every USB port I have including the ones in the front and none of them seem to work but they all charge the Zen just fine. No matter what I've done I haven't been able to see it in Device manager and scanning for new hardware hasn't done anything either. I've been trying to figure this out for hours so if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Creative products are great when they actually work but I honestly went through 3 Zen M's which seem to have a high rate of becoming defecti've for no reason at all. It's really frustrating having problems with one of them before I've even gotten the chance to use it lol.

Hello, I know they can make you crazy. For starters are you using the dongle to connect to the computer? Those all in one generics can damage your device & may not have the pins wired correctly wrong polarity ect.(they have fried a few motherboards)So if that's what you are using don't you can get the right ones here? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3603883200? Hopefully that is not the issue if so then you would need another board. Try another computer(a friends) preferably one with NO Creative software installed a Vista O.S. would be good to try this since there is no need to install any drivers (the driver is nati've to the O.S.)

Try disabling the UAS driver, check here [1] how to disable it for a particular drive.

  • Zen Vision: M 30GB no longer recognized by Windows

I've had the player since Christmas and I've had no problems since today. As of this morning, whenever I plug the player into any USB port on my computer, I receive the error "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it". When I check the USB port in the Device Manager, it's listed as Unknown.
To get the inevitable out of the way:
Yes, I've tried all USB ports on the computer.
Yes, I've tried other devices that use a USB connection (My camera and printer) and they work fine.
Yes, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.
I also have a AC adapter that still manages to charge the player fine, which I would think would mean that there is no physical hardware problem.
As I previously mentioned, I've had the player for about half a year and it's worked fine. Why would it stop functioning now?

    Read this first:

  • Zen Vision M - Problem with Scr

I place my Vision M on locked mode (power button towards the padlock symbol) and use the player for a while. Then when I want to change album or skip a track I will slide the power button back to the middle. At this point the screen does not display properly and it has a washed out grey look with lines of interference at the bottom. Sometimes I cannot actually make anything out on the screen. It does not affect the music and sometimes if I just put it back on hold and then repeat the screen will be perfect.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and should I contact Amazon or Creative? I am willing to put up with the crackling bug that quite a few others are experiencing but since the screen on the VISION :-) was a big selling point I'm not prepared to put up with this.
Don't know how much longer I can take the iFake jokes from my buddies!! ;-)
    Cheers

I found the easiest way is to do it in Creative Media Source 5, highlight all the tracks in the album you want to apply art to, right click, go to "edit properties", click on the last entry on the bottom, "change album art" and assign the JPG of your choice, then update tags and the album art will show on your player, it has worked 00% for me so far.

  • My Zen Sleek Only works with USB 1.1 not 2

    For Reference ( http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=953 )
So I figured out that when my Zen Sleek is connected to any USB port on my computer, (it's USB 2.0) it doesn't work.
It works in that I can browse the files, etc..etc.. but when i try to copy a song or some songs, it will crash after the first song is transfered.
So I have a USB . Hub, and I plug the Zen Sleek to it and well even though it's slow, it actually works. All songs transfer fine.
So I buy a new Belkin USB 2.0 Hub, same problem happens.
I have an EPOX 8K5A+2 motherboard, built in 4 ports of USB 2.0, gig PC2700 Ram, AthlonXP 2800+ etc.. Latest VIA Detonator drivers... Deleted all the USB ports and what not in Device Manager, rebooted, etc.. tried everything.. Any Ideas people?

Confirm you've installed the Media Player 0 updates KB902344 (http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...4-x86-INTL.exe) and KB8922(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...08-FD6E7827CD8) on your XP system. I experienced the same transfer issues you report until after KB902344 installation.

  • Zen Vision M - help with mp3 sound quality - decreases after trans

I use the Media Explorer to transfer songs from cd to the player. After?recently upgrading my OS to the XP service pack 2 (even though I don't know if this has anything to do with it), the sound quality of the mp3's has decreased when playing back on the player. Sound is real tinny. I checked the settings and?it's set to the highest quality. I always keep it at that and never change it. What am I missing here?

Check the transfer settings on WMP, it will often override and convert content when you transfer it even when you don't want it to.
Plug in your ZVm and wait for it to be recognized by your computer.Run Windows Media Player(in WMP)Tools->OptionsClick on "devices" tab (You should see your ZVM displayed in list)Click your ZVM in the list, and select propertiesClick the Quality TabChaing the settings from "Automatic" quality detection to manual and set alll the settings to the highest quality. Then give your transfers a try again.

  • Is Zen Vision:M compatable with napst

Since i've seen it on napters website i assume it is but whenever i try and transfer songs napster doesnt recognize my player, or worse it says that the vision is NOT compatable and i have to buy every single song.... WTF? did i just miss something or what is going on?

Yes, there's a project called XNJB and though it's in beta, it has been confirmed by one of my members at epiZENter.net to work with MTP devices like the Vision:M. Now it won't work directly thru itunes, but your itunes library shows up in the program, and when you export files from your player they show up in the library.

  • ZEN Micro- Loose connection with USB port while charg

Hello everyone, I just bought my Zen Micro today. However, the USB port is quite loose, I am able to shake the USB connection to my player. Is this normal?

It's normal for the cable to be a bit loose when plugged in, yeah. I shouldn't worry about it unless the connection starts being faulty, which I don't think it will.
If any of the actual player itself looks wobbly, though, you probably ought to get a replacement.
