Zen Vision M: Frustrat

I am experiencing some issues with my Zen Vision: M 30 gb. It seems to have a mind of it's own. When I turn it on, it will pick a random song and speed through it. Sometimes it will stop and play another one, and speed through that one as well. When I plug headphones into the jack, it will shut off. It will also go to the radio where it will freeze. It does this all by itself- I don't touch any of the buttons. I have reset it several times, and formatted the dri've. Nothing has worked. I am assuming my best bet is to send it in for repair, but if anyone has anything else I could try I would greatly appreciate it.

it sounds like a major software or hardware malfunction, contacting creative and getting a replacement/repair would be your best bet.

  • MediaSource Recognition Problem? (Zen Vision:

OK, I had a Zen 20GB for the last year and I loved it to bits. Worked great, but just before Christmas it fell in some water and died . I replaced it with a 60GB Zen Vision:M and didn't mind too much because I had less than GB of space left and would have had to replace it soon anyway.
Now onto my question. With my Zen 20GB when I used Media Source (I think v.3 came with it but I can't remember) it would let me search my Zen and edit tracks in it. The search function was IMO fantastic, especially with a music collection as large as mine. Now when I connect my ZV:M it connects fine. I've transferred plenty of music without bother using Windows Media Player.
However, when I open Media Source (both v.3 and v.5) it doesn't give me any option to explore my Zen like it did when I had my 20GB. I can still explore it using the Zen Explorer, but since this doesn't let you edit the properties for several tracks at a time I find it very frustrating.
Also, if I chose to "Transfer Music", "Transfer Playlist" or "Sync Music" in Media Source I get the message "No Creative mp3 player is detected. Please connect your mp3 player and try again."
Now, I know it's connected since I can explore the contents fine in Zen Explorer and I can transfer to it using WMP. Is there something I haven't installed correctly that is stopping Media Source from recognising my player? It just seems strange since it seems to be the only application not working for it.
Thanks for the help (and sorry if this has been covered else where. I searched but couldn't find anything).

You must also download and install the corresponding MediaSource plugin for your MP3 player in order for MediaSource 5 to detect your MP3 player.

  • Zen Vision:M 30GB recognition problems...Big t

Hi, 2 days ago i ran into a problem with my Zen. I had to charge it, as the battery was low and had to put some new music on it.. I plugged it into the USB port on my Laptop, where all of it's software is installed. The Zen wasn't recognized. Instead of the charging screen it normally started up with, it started up with the play screen(the screen it shows when a song is playing). I looked at the battery icon in the top right corner, and it wasn't doing anything. I turned the Zen off and started it up again. Nothing changed. I restarted my computer. Nothing changed. I shut down my computer and started it back up again. Nothing changed.
I took it to my desktop computer, a Compaq, and tried it there. It worked, but not how i was expecting it to work. The battery icon started flashing with the little lightning bolt, acknowledging that it was charging. But the play screen was still there. The odd thing with this is, i left the player to charge for several hours. When i came back, the Zen was in some form of idle shut-down. The screen was black, except for the battery icon with the lightning bolt. Oddly enough, he battery bar hadn't filled up anymore than when i left it. Upon unplugging the player though, the Zen turned off. When i turned it back on, the bar had filled up more. It wasn't fully charged though.
I plugged the cable back into it, and this time, the battery icon WASN'T charging. It just had the play screen on. It wasn't doing ANYTHING this time. Frustrated, i went out and bought the wall charger, and now i have a full battery. But it doesn't solve why my computer won't recognize my player.
Today, i un-installed the software that came with the player and re-installed it. It didn't do anything. I installed the software on my desktop computer, and THAT didn't work either. So i came to the website here and used the trouble-shoot guide. That didn't help, and this is where my problem differs from the other posters here who have recognition problems:
Back to my laptop: I have Windows Service Pack 2. I installed Windows Media Player . I went to the Device Manger, like the trouble-shoot guide said to. The kicker: Windows Portable Devices is NOT, i repeat NOT in my Device Manager. Neither does the Creative player either. I clicked on "The player does not appear in Device manager". That link showed me a diagram of a desktop computer, so went back to my desktop computer. I did everything above mentioned, and Windows Portable Devices is not in the device manager of my desktop computer either. Further reading the trouble-shoot guide, i could NOT locate "Other Devices" or "Unknown Devices" in my Device Manger on either desktop or laptop. There's nothing "Creative" related or "Zen" related at all in any of the Device programs.
I don't know what to do. All of the trouble-shoot guides don't discuss my issue at all. Everything is "If an MP3 player is reported working properly in Device Manager, but it is not detected or listed in Windows Media Player or Creative Media Explorer..."
Mine isn't even detected in Device Manager. My Device Manager has nothing regarding my Zen or Windows Portable Devices.
I'm thinking about messing with it in Recovery mode, but i don't want to erase everything i have on here, just to have my player still not work. I'm going to try messing with this at my friend's house to check the cable and the player there too.
But any help regarding my situation would be greatly appreciated. This is driving me crazy.

I tried my uncle's Zen Vision: M 30GB on my laptop and strange things happened. My laptop recognized the player as an unknown device and said i needed to install the MTP driver. I did that, and upon doing so, my laptop recognized my Uncle's player as a Portable device, allowing me to transfer songs to his player. But it STILL doesn't recognize MY player. Email support says i have to send it in for repairs, but i don't know...
    Any luck with you?

  • Zen Vision M Recognized by XP Pro, but not by Creative Media Organizer or other transfer softw

I have a Zen Vision M. It worked perfectly for months. Suddenly, it wouldn't turn on. I started it in Rescue Mode, did a clean up and several reboots. It started doing a rebuild on every start. Now when I plug it into the USB port, my computer recognizes it. It gives me the portable device icon in the task bar. But, if I try to use it with Windows Media Player 0, Creative Mediasource, Organizer or anything else, it says the device is not connected. I have checked Device Manager, and it shows up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Zen software. I have no issues with device drivers in the Device Manager. It just simply will not show up as connected on any software to transfer music.
If I connect it to the USB, it goes into dock mode. When I boot up any of the software, it shows the docking arrows moving. It's like everything is ok except the one important piece - not being recognized by the various software needed to transfer music.
Please help!? I have a Dell Dimension 8400. I run Windows XP Pro with ALL updates, and SP2. It is completely up to date with all critical updates for XP Pro. This came out of the blue and I have no explanation for it. I hadn't used it for about 3 days, but it worked perfectly up until I turned it on that last time when I got nothing and had to go through all the clean up, reboots, etc. I have done 2 clean ups so far.
Please advise what to do next.
    Thanks.

Ok. I checked my version of XP. It is XP Pro, Version 2002, SP2. I checked and already had the 2 hotfixes that were listed as being needed before proceeding. I followed all the steps and changed the registry key on "everyone" as the instructions stated to do. My ZVM is still not recognized by any of the software for transferring or organizing MP3's. My computer still recognizes that it is attached. It still gives me the device icon in the task bar. It still says it's A-ok in the Device Manager. It does everything, except it is not detected by ANY of my music software. <sigh>? Frustration is at its peak for me right now. I really appreciate all of the efforts. I'm at my wits end now. I have done everything you have indicated I should, but am getting the same results. I did purchase an extended warranty from Circuit City where I purchased this last summer. Is that the next step? Do I need to get this replaced?I love this player and really don't want to go through this again. We had to exchange it twice in the first month because it froze up and wouldn't do a thing. This last one has been perfect. I keep it in a leather padded case at all times. It never has the battery drained. It never gets jostled or bumped or dropped or anything that might damage it. When not being played, it stays on my desk in the case.
Thanks so much for any and all help.

  • Zen Vision 30GB Firmware Problem - No solution wo

I have a Zen Vision 30GB (not a Zen Vision M or W, just a Zen Vision). On Friday I was trying to add songs to my Zen and halfway through adding the songs I got an error on the computer saying "player not connected". So I undocked the player, turned it off and reset my computer. Saturday morning I turned on my Zen to try to add songs again and I got the error message on my Zen?"Firmware Problem" and it put me in "Recovery Mode". The first thing I did was try to reload the firmware, but when I plugged the Zen to the computer it says "docked", but I cannot move through the menu. When I unhook it from the computer I can move through the menu. BTW I am running Windows Vista 32-bit. I have uninstalled the Zen software and installed the software off the Creative website for Vista, but when I try to run the firmware it says "Player not connected, please connect player."? When I plug the player in via USB my computer recognizes it and prompts me if I want to sync my player, so there isn't anything wrong with my USB connection. The?Device Manager recognizes it however Windows Media Player does not. I get the same error message when I try to do the Recovery Tool on the Creative website. I have looked for solutions on the forums and just doing Google searches, but I have not been able to get anything to work. Please help me!? The player is less than a year old. I have never had any problems with it before, never been dropped or anything like that, so i am not sure what is going on. Any help or suggestions would be great!? I sent an email to customer support yesterday and the reply I received this morning was no help. First they thought I had the Zen Vision M, even though I specifically said I had the Zen Vision and gave them the serial number and everything. I sent them back a message today and hopefully they can help, but it is frustrating having to send an email and wait around for a reply.

  • ZEN Vision:M problem selecting from the men

Just like the title says, I'm having trouble accessing any of the menus(photos, videos, extras, etc..) from the menu on my ZEN Vision:M. I've tried pressing the touchpad to select a menu option but no luck, I've also tried just pressing the "right" button to enter a sub menu but no luck. I can scroll up and down in the menu and if a song is playing I can also adjust the volume but its like i have no option to select. I downloaded the newest version of firmware by my model, I've tried formating the player but still stuck with the same problem.
Also, when in recovery mode I cant select any of the options listed in the menu.
I just bought this Device from DELL.com w/ Extended Service Protection but Im beginning to think I got a defecti've product.
If anyone could help with this frustration it'd be great
    Thanks for reading.

I just contacted Dell and I'm returning for a refund. After several more attempts to try and reboot, relaod firmware to try and solve any problem with it I decided to call it quits and just chalk it up to a PoS mp3 player. I have had a 20g Samsung player for 3 years now and have had no problem with it at all. The only thing is that its not compatible with subscription services such as Napster to Go. I think I will look into a new Samsung or something else.

  • Why, when i try to synchronise my pc library with my Zen Vision M does it not update??? Pleae He

    Hi,
I have a Zen Vision M 20g and i've been trying (in vain) to synchronise from my PC library which i've updated and cleaned up - to my Zen.
Everytime i've done this (about 5 times now) it doesn't update. I've still got Artist files named 0, 02, 03 when i've already changed the tag information in the pc library.
I'm very very confused! Please help me. I've tried to find other discussions on this matter without much joy!
Sorry, if this is a very stupid question btw!
    Thanks

In fact, if anyone can tell me where to find detailed information on synchronising your Vision M and your pc i'll happily read the manual! cheers. xMessage Edited by ladyhall on 05-03-2006 09:4 AM

I am having the same massi've problem. I have read all of the threads and can't find anything that actually tells what me to do. I change the tag in my PC library and if I sync again, it just creates a new file and keeps the old one. I am so frustrated! Someone please help!!!! Did they really make the program so that it can not recognize it is the same file and just update it's? If so, why can't they fix it, it seems like lots of people are experiencing this problem. To manually delete the files? one by one from the player is a real pain. Someone PLEASE PLEASE help!?Thanks!?

  • Uable to use Creative Zen Vision

    Hi,
After installing the Zen Vision:M media explorer software, when trying to install the actuall MP3 i run into problems. when windows try's to install a new device it keeps failing saying that " A service installation section in this INF is invalid ". Am I doing something wrong or is there a solution to this problem.
    plzz help !!

    Cat,
I appreciate what you are saying, but many people have had (and probably still do have) the invalid INF problem. It is very hard to find the solution in support knowledgebase - does it exist there? It is a very frustrating issue and short quips do not help. What you (Creative) need to do is update the knowledgebase with various solutions that actually help. There is one technote that tells customers to uninstall all creative software and uninstall the device. Thats it. It doesnt work. Surely the numbers of people asking on this forum is testament to that.
Searching for 'invalid INF' in the knowledgebase brings up 5 results, of which Solution ID # 7777 is the closest match. Would you say this is a satisfactory technote? I wouldn't.
Please please can you post the correct set of solutions? I (and many others here) were on the border of ditching their Creative products in favour of another manufacturer. It was only by chance I happened to find someone else mention WMP that I even considered trying it.
That is why I find Dale's comment frustrating - I also work in Tech Support - its hard to see it from the customer's point of view sometimes. Its easy to forget that you know the solutions in your head already but we don't!

  • Creative wall adapter broke my Zen Vision:

Okay, I am having a problem.
So I bought the Creative ZEN power adapter for my player, I bring it home, turn my player on and then off and plug it into the adapter expecting the screen to turn on, but it doesn't. I unplugged it to see what the problem was but now the screen won't turn on anymore. So basically my zen's turned off and won't turn back on. I'm suspecting that the DC adapter broke it because I obviously didnt and it like died right after I plugged it in. This is thoroughly upsetting as I bought the official DC adapter and it specifically states that it's for all zens except for the nano and nano plus, and I have a creative zen vision: M, so this really shouldn't be a problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions or insight as to what's going on? This is really upsetting me.

I had a very similar problem with my Vision:M. It worked fine until I tried to use the official creative adapter, and then it would only go to the background screen with the adapter icon in the top right corner. I couldn't actually use the player, and when I unplugged it, I could not get it to turn on again. I tried to reset it, but it would not do anything. I have been able at least to transfer the files from the player to my computer by connecting both the power adapter and the USB cable at the same time, but I still cannot get the player to function as a player. So basically, all I have now is a very expensi've external hard dri've. This is extremely frustrating, and I would also appreciate any advise anyone could give.

  • Zen Vision M 30G will not connect to

New at this, please bear with me.
My player worked just fine, unfortunately I don't have a car charger and after a long trip killed the battery. I return home, plug the player into my computer and nothing happens. I get frustrated, try everything, even going from USB port to USB port to get the thing to charge... nothing.
I leave it plugged in for a week and forget about it for?a few days. Well, it's charged, I'm happy about that, however I'm not very happy that it is not being recognized by my computer. Nope, no docking symbol, nothing. When I open the program it tells me the device is not connected. So again I try it in every port available and nothing. I do get a symbol within the battery symbol that sort of looks like a plug in, but no lightning bolt or dock symbol. (I guess it won't give me a lightning bolt if it's fully charged, right? (duh)).
I even uninstalled and installed the software on my computer thinking this is the problem, checked the USB ports through the control panel(...), I get nothing.
Anyone, please help. By the way, I am not a computer expert, nor am I an MP3 expert, I just want this thing to work so I don't have to go out and buy a new one. This one is only a year old and I only use it in my vehicle on long tri
    ps.
(PLEH!? That's help backwards, this is a serious problem)

This has happened to me a few times with my vision m. First, is your firmware updated?
    Driver Removal/Reinstallation
If this is not your first time plugging your ZVM into that computer, and it had worked before, then it is likely your system's driver cache has gotten corrupted. Windows has the occasional habit of "forgetting" things that it had recognized in the past. You will have to uninstall and reinstall the driver. To do this:
Plug your ZVM into the USB port, if it isn't already.<
Go to Windows' Device Manager by right-clicking on "My Computer" and selecting "Properties" (alternati'vely, if you are not running in "Start Menu Classic View" mode, then open your Control Panel from the Start Menu, select "Performance and Maintenance", and selecting "System"). From there, select the "Hardware" tab, and click "Device Manager".<
Locate the entry for "Creative Zen Vision:M" in the device list. It should be located under "Portable Devices".<
Right-click the "Creative Zen Vision:M" entry, and select "Uninstall".<
When the entry disappears, unplug your player, and wait several seconds.<
Plug your player back in. The "Found New Hardware" wizard should come up. Allow it to locate and install the driver automatically.<
Windows Media Player on Windows XP
If you are running Windows XP and have updated your Windows Media Player to WMP from WMP0, and you start encountering connectivity issues, you may have a conflict between WMP and your Creative software. There are three possible solutions for this:
Download and install the update patch for Creative Media Explorer, which can be found on the appropriate download page on Creative's website. This makes the Creative software compatible with WMP's MTP driver.<
Completely uninstall all Creative software and use WMP instead. If the problem persists, reinstall WMP.<
    Roll-back WMP back to WMP0.<
    Docked, but Not Recognized
If your player is showing all the signs of being docked, but your computer isn't seeing it, then try performing a Disk Cleanup from the ZVM's Recovery Mode menu. As a last resort when nothing else has worked, you may need to reformat your ZVM - also from Recovery Mode. Note that you will lose all of your media files when you reformat.
you might want to check out http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=0960 for more info about this. I wish i bookmark the thread that i have on the creative forum about this same exact problem. search it up if u can.

  • ZEN VISION M SERIES MEDIA EXPLORER NOT WORKING ON WINDOWS 7

Recently installed the much hyped windows 7. Installed my zen vision m. Everything is ok except media explorer is not working from the shortcut on the desktop or i can't find the exe in the creative folder file to get it started. All i get is "this filse does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.please install a program or,if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel "
i can access the music & picture files as a hard drive folder.
    Anyone any ideas?

My experience has been that the original software that came on CD with the Visionn M is not compatible with my new 64 bit Windows 7 OS but that the updated version availabloe for free download on the support site does work just fine. My remaining frustration (which appears unresolvable) is that unlike the original, the "new and improved" media explorer from the website?will only rip to WMA format and does not offer the MP3 option that was the core of the original program. I think this is incomprehensible and reprehensible for a device that is sold as an "MP3 player". I did not intentionally?buy an expensi've "WMA player" but thanks to Creative, I guess I ended up with one. I have bought literally a dozen Creative media players over the years for friends and family but this makes me so angry that I will never buy another.

  • Zen Vision M Tempo changes and skipp

I have a Zen Vision M 30GB. I just recently got a new computer with Windows Vista. Ever since I started downloading from my new computer the tracks are skipping and the tempo changes on some of the tracks. I'm hoping it's not my Zen. My thinking is that something is happening in the transfer. Anyone else have this problem or know what might be causing the skipping and tempo changes? When I've transferred from a ripped cd I didn't hear any tempo changes on the tracks when I played it back from my zen but I do here some skipping. When I transfer tracks from either Rhapsody or Windows media I get skipping and tempo changes. I'm frustrated with this. I did not have this when I was transferring from my laptop which had windows XP. I also don't seem to be able to drag and drop amy album art in the media explorer on my new computer. Is it posible this is a Windows Vista thing?

Well I went back to downloading from my laptop and the tracks I download from there play perfectly. Therefore eliminating any problem on my hard dri've on the zen vision m. It's got to be in the transfer from my new computer. Does anyone have any answers for this. Do some settings need to be changed? I have ripped cds and transfered th songs from my new computer and they skip as well when played back from my zen vision m. The songs play fine from the computer so it's not the track itself. Somethings happening in the transfer.

    Vackie_Mcbeal,
I completely understand how you feel, and I know how it can be frustrating not being able to find the exact color you are looking for. I think Creative's main goal right now is to try to get as many players out as possible; however the company does have to be careful on how it does this (you want to have as much of the popular colors as possible while still providing enough of the less popular colors).
I am keeping my eyes peeled for a Green Zen Vision:M online for the US (be it Creative's store or not) and if I find a place I'll let you know here. I'll also let some of my contacts on our e-store team know that I know of a few people who are looking for a green ZVM. Don't know if it will change anything but it can't hurt.

  • Serious Issues with Creative Zen Vision M 3

This all started when I was fast forwarding through a track and it freezes. So, I did reset and it's in recovery mode, whereas usually it will just restart again. So I tried turining it on and off and was still stuck in Recovery Mode. Tried plugging it into the computer, the computer doesn't recognize it. I did everything the website told me to, but my computer will not recognize that it is plugged into the usb. When I have it docked it will not let me do anything at all. I tried to clean it up and it stays in "scan disk" for hours,I tried to format it, knowing it would erase everything but hoping it would fix, and when I tried to format it, I got a message saying "harddisk problem", when I rebbot it simply reboots back to Recovery Mode and the other option I have is reload firmware, and it prompts me to start updating firmware, but my computer won't even recognize that it is plugged in , in the first place, so I am at a loss with what to do next. The best help Creative can give me is email support. As most of you probably have found out there is no technical support phone number, only for returns/exchanges. I am using Windows Vista if that makes a difference, which it probably does since nothing seems to work on Winows Vista, and when I look at My computer, it shows that the device is present, but yet I can't access it through any media source or when trying to install this firmware? garbage. Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you in advance. Sarah

My computer isn't recognizing the player. I can't get out of recovery

try to update the firmware it won't let me because it acn't detect the
product. When it reboots, it reboots to recovery mode. I can't access
the main settings or screen. When it is docked it won't let me do
anything. I tried all the suggestions on the site. The product was 50%
charged when I was doing all this. It won't let me reload firmware
    either.

  • Creative Zen Vision:M FM Radio Completely Disappeared!! (Reinstalling firmware doesn't hel

I turned on my Creative Zen Vision: M, and the FM Radio wasn't there. It just simply disappeared; it's not listed on the Main Menu, nor is it listed as an option from "Configure Menu". This has nothing to do with a new Firmware update that removes the?radio; my player was not connected to?my computer. I have had my player since July of 2006, so it's obviously too late to return it. I've looked around on the forum and many other people have had the same problem, but the only solution has been to reinstall/upgrade the firmware. This doesn't solve the problem. I've tried everything on the recovery menu--formatting, rebooting, cleaning disk, etc, but nothing has worked. I've also contacted Customer Support, but from what I've heard, it's probably not going to help. Has ANYONE been able to solve this problem? It's really frustrating that so many people have this problem and nothing has worked.

    Oh, right, sorry.
"OS Name: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
    Version: 5..2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600"
Though currently, I'm installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 via Windows Automatic Updates.
    WMP Version: .0.572.5230
Should I uninstall WMP entirely to eliminate it as a possible factor?
(I have Winamp so I don't really need WMP.)
Are you saying that once I rollback my WMP to WMP0, my computer will be capable of reading my Zen & thus, allowing me to download the firmware and restoring it's previous condition (minus the contents-music, video, pictures, etc.)
Also, I tried to see if my Zen would try to connect to my laptop - I uninstalled the Zen program on it before connecting it, to see if anything would come up, allowing me to do anything, etc. But no, it just said "My Zen" but I couldn't do anything with that. And then I installed all of the software on the Creative Installation CD. After all of that, apparently my computer acknowledges that a device is connected via USB because it gives me an option as to what to do with it - open it, play it with wmp, explore, etc. The problem though was that the Creative program itself wouldn't acknowledge that it was connected. So I still had the "The player is not connected."
Just thought this might make a difference -
I also was looking for some kind of repair shops or sites that would be capable of repairing my Zen - the only thing I came across was http://www.zenrepair.com/Zen/index.jsp - does anyone know anything about this site? If it's reliable, etc. (Just a back up option in case this situation isn't solveable by other Zen peers.)
Also, thanks again for any help, effort, attempt, etc.
