Zen Vision:M ID3 tags being transered to compu

I always update my artist/titles/albums on the Zen Vision Media Explorer. When i transfer files back to my computer they don't keep there tags that i put in. Is there any way to transfer files to my computer while keeping the players tags?

I'm not sure if this will help you but generally ID3v tags are more compatible while ID3v2 are more flexible meaning you get more options as what you want in your tags. So I would go with ID3v to be on the safe side.

• Zen Vision:M ID3 T

Hello all ...
Just recently got a Vision:M and like it.
I had a Zen Micro for almost 2 years and no trouble then it froze up. I had replacement at Best Buy, but they no longer carried the Micro, so we moved up.
Anyway, I am having some problems with ID3 tags. Some of them show up as jibberish in the Artist field (looks like Japanese or something like that), along with I guess to be binary zeros.
I have several Tag editors, but there is some comfusion as to what to use or fix.
Can someone tell me with certainty what the Vision:M uses, ID3v or ID3v2 (or is there something else).
I never had any trouble with my music on the Zen Micro, so the Vision:M must be checking some other tags.
I'd like to go through my music and fix the tags, but need to make sure which ones I should be using for the Vision:M
Any help would be appreciated.
Are there any suggestions for a good description of the tags anywhere?
Any thoughts?
Thanks ...
Bob

• Zen Vision:M Track Tag info?

I have a 30GB Zen Vision:M, and I'm having a problem that is apparently related to the tag information on some of my music. I've edited the tags on my computer (Win XP), and they all seem correct there, but on my Zen, they've got odd artist names, like "ACDC/ACDC" instead of "ACDC" which is what I see when I try to edit them. It's like they got set wrong at some point in the past, but in spite of my corrections (and recopying the music to my player), they're still showing up wrong.
Any suggestions/ideas?
Thanks!
Kaiti

If you have already finished doing them thru Windows Explorer go to WMP in the options have it set to when you delete music from the library that it DOES NOT delete it from the computer. Then delete the ones you have corrected. Then have WMP scan to find music files & they will now be correct there as well.

• Zen Stone - are ID3 tags display

Hi,
I am considering buying the Creative Zen Stone 2GB With Built-In Speaker.
I know that it does not allow sorting by ID3 tags, but does it display the ID3 tags in the display when playing a track?
Regards,

Correction: I mean the Creative Zen Stone Plus, of course?

• Zen Vision M: Artist tags (recognizing "the&quo

Not a major problem, but it would be great if someone knows something you can download to the Creative Zen Vision:M so that it detects when there is the word "the" at the beginning of the Artist Name tag and ignore.
That way, when it lists out artists all the bands that start with "the" will not be pushed together and towards the end.
Anybody know a way to get around this?
Thanks

Ah yes... The old word "The" in artist name request. This is a request that CL has had a few times over the years. I know the first time I requested it was back in Nov 2004;http://forums.americas.creative.com/....id=2735#M2735Most other brand software figured out how to do this years ago, but for whatever reason CL likes to have "The Beatles" under "T" instead of under "B" where it goes. • Zen Vision:M Problem, Not being recognised by computer tried everyth

My player used to be able to connect fine to my computer however now it doesnt recognise it at all. Windows media player is installed, I tried all 6 USB ports with no success and it doesn't appear in device manager. I have also tried on a different computer with th same results. This has only started happening recently. When I attempt to plug the player in it turns the player on, then turns itself off after the idle time kicks in. I tried fully reformatting the player, it still doesnt work and now i am left with an mp3 player without any songs on which I cant put any songs on. I have already tried emailing customer support but the page appears to be broken. I am getting mighty fed up with this as I don't have the money to fund a new mp3 player.
Any help would be appreciated,
Cheers,

having nearly the same problems with my ZEN V 2GB.
After first install the player is recognized normal but if i plug it off and on again to the usb cable it isn't recognized anymore.
In the device manager i see the zen but an error message that it couldn't be started (code 0).
things i have done: deinstalled and reinstalled software, got newest firmware, tried every usb port.
having media player on the pc. tried to return to an earlier version but i couldn't roll back.
as i see the problem might be the usb port or the software. for myself charging times are very long. took me 5hours to get it fully loaded. might be also the same thing.
creative support is hard to reach because the site seems to be broken. but i get a confirmation e-mail that it will take -3 days....i hope tomorrow there will be help

• Creative Zen Sleek Photo isn't being read on compu

I've had the Sleek Photo for over a year and I've never had any problems until now. The other day it worked, but not its not registering on the computer. I plug it in, Creative Explorer pops up (as usual) but it says that there is no player plugged in. My USB port is ok, and I've tried everything on the Zen site that is recommended but to no avail....help?

Exactly the same thing has happened to mine today. I had a fault with uploading two tracks to it last night (not sure why), afterwhich I recoverded the player, used disk clean up and let it rebuild the library. However, some albums are now missing, and the display just says "select music to PLAY from Music Library" even when playing tracks (ie no artist or album info is displayed, just the quoted message)? My Sleek is recognised by windows when I plug it into USB ports, but not by the Creative software.Message Edited by django68 on 0-23-200704:23 AM

• My iTunes library and metadata/ID3 tags issue

Since 2010, iTunes is the only media player I use to play music. My library consists of music purchased from the iTunes Store, CD rips and stuff many artists these days release as freebies on the internet to promote a new album. Also, M4A and MP3 are the only formats I use so far.
Since iTunes, I really got into editing my library's metadata tags by hand, in order to create a custom archive which serves my preferences best. I should mention that besides iTunes being the only software I use to play my music library, it's also the only software I use to edit their metadata. Also, before iTunes – when my library was on different media players – I never bothered with editing them.
A few days ago, I found how a lot of people in forums complain about the way iTunes edits and stores metadata. So, I experimented and moved a few of my songs to other media players after editing their tags within iTunes. And indeed the tags and/or artwork were often displayed messed up and/or incorrect, some times partially and some times completely.
Some people were referring to the version of the ID3 tags being the issue, while others suggested using the "convert ID3 tags" feature. I myself am a little bit confused. "Converting the ID3 tags" wasn't available for my M4A files and once I performed it for my MP3's I didn't know which setting I should apply or what version to choose. I chose one version randomly but I'm not sure what happened.
My goal is to make my music library able to play and display my custom metadata on the majority of the popular media players. I hope that firstly this is possible and that secondly it won't be a solution which requires me going through every single song individually.
I really hope that all those years work on my library wasn't for nothing.
I'm using a MacBook running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and my iTunes version is 10.7
While my music library is more important that my iTunes version, I do like iTunes 10 more than 11.
I apologize for any grammar mistakes, since English is not my first language. Thank you all for your time and any suggestion is welcome.

Hello turingtest2 and thank you for your reply.
In response to "a possible cause of problems is multiple embedded tags", what exactly does that mean and how can I avoid doing it in the future?
Anything ripped with iTunes should get a single tag. If multiple tags in some of your older mp3 rips are the cause of the problems when you try to access the files elsewhere then you should apply the suggested remedy selectively, not to the whole library indiscriminately. Once fixed you shouldn't have the problem again unless you use different ripping software. If so check the options to ensure you generate a single ID3v2.3 tag. Downloads from elsewhere are pot luck.
If I use Convert ID3 Tags>None before converting to v2.3 as you suggested, how many times is "several times" and why do I have to do it more than once? Also, what are your thoughts on 'v2.3 vs. v2.4'?
Several is at least two, but more could be needed if a file has both v1 and v2 tags in multiple languages. If there are two tags, the first conversion to none should remove the first one, and the second conversion the second. Experiment, And stick to v2.3.
In response to "the process removes any embedded art but otherwise preserves the data that iTunes knows". All fields excluding cover art remain the same? Does that mean that I will have to start from scratch and apply new cover art individually for each album? That would be too time consuming given the fact that I embed custom art.
Yes, everything but artwork is held in the iTunes database and is restored with the final Convert ID3 Tags... v2.3. Use Doug's scripts SaveAlbumArtJpeg before you start and RestoreArtworkFromAlbumFolder afterwards to save and the restore your existing artwork.
Also, what happens with my M4A files' metadata? ID3 tags are only used for MP3's, right?
Yes, m4a/aac files have a different tag mechanism. Multiple ID3 tags is just one possible issue that you might have. You said:
So, I experimented and moved a few of my songs to other media players after editing their tags within iTunes. And indeed the tags and/or artwork were often displayed messed up and/or incorrect, some times partially and some times completely.
It might be worth going into some more detail about exactly what differences you noticed. iTunes can automatically associate (instead of embedding) artwork when it can match the album in the store which could be why some tracks didn't get artwork.

• ID3 tags and Nee

Sorry if this has been asked before or is really obvious :P
I have a Zen Neeon and the currently playing song appears on the screen as only a title. There is no artist. All my songs are tagged with ID3 v and 2. The only way I can get the player to scroll Artist - Title is by removing all ID3 tags and having the filename be Artist - Title.mp3 (it does not display the .mp3 extension when playing a track). Is this the way it works? I was under the impression from the FAQs and a little snooping that Zens could read ID3 tags? Obviously they can because it gets the track title information out fine, but not the artist. Is there a simple option I'm missing?
Edit: .0 firmware and using Winamp to edit my ID3 tags, put the songs on the player by drag and drop in ExplorerMessage Edited by SR on 08-3-2006 03:53 PM

Hey, first of all, thanks for your help, but I'm still in problems.
I have noticed that itunes imports the music files before I alter the ID3 tags (from backup files). However, as soon as I try to add the same file to my itunes library after I have edited the ID3 file (via windows itself), itunes does not add the file to its library anymore. This is happening to a considerable amount of my music. When I try to play the same files in windows mediaplayer, they play without a problem, so I guess the problem is with itunes.
Somebody can please help me out, because I like to be in control of my music, and not itunes,

• Zen vision isnt detected by anyth

for a brief moment everything was fine (was using x64), i updated the firmware to the latest, then mediasource crashed and now my zen vision (new) just isnt being detected by windows media player or the mediasource software. i've since updated everything i can (and gone back to using xphome) but still it wont work - i cant install the zen vision pack 5.00.8 update because it wont detect it
the really wierd part is it appears under device manager as working normally, and when i connect it, windows asks whether id like to sync it with media player or media explorer.

ok nevermind, i've solved it - for those interested i took the battery out of it for a minute as a last resort before packing it back up - i spent 5 hours trying to ge this to work and thats all i needed to do?!?! damyn.

• I Need Help With My Zen Vision M 30GB Player ASAP

Tonight i had started deleting of my music folders on my creative zen vision m 30gb player and as it was doing that i accidently disconnected the usb cable from the player. After that the player was froze on the docking mode and i hit the reset button with a paper clip. Then after that for some strange reason my computer does not detect my zen vision m player as being connected to the computer. the docked screen appears on my player but the arrows keep spinning and my pc keeps saying found new hardware mtp device and does nothing but repeat that over and over again. I run windows xp pro service pack 2 with windows media player installed. I really need help asap to resolve this issue and have my pc reconize it normal again where i can access my music folders and playlists again.

The core problem is related to Microsoft Windows Media . To resolve the issue, you need to uninstall MWM v from the Add/Remove Programs. Then it will rollback to MWM v9. Unplug the player from the USB port. Reinstall the supplied software from Creative if you need too. Reboot, plug the device into the USB port. Reinstall the device driver for the MP3 player. Reload the latest firmware. The file can be downloaded at

• Zen Vision:M 60GB firmware: NEEDS 'Disc Number' tag supp

The Creative Zen Vision:M 60GB firmware (.20.02e) does not recognise the 'Disc Number' part of ID3 tags.
This is VERY annoying as albums made up of more than one CD do not play in the correct order (they play in order of 'Track Number', e.g. ",,,,2,2,2,2,3,3,3,3,4,4,5,5" etc). I do not want to go through my collection separating these large albums into a messy bunch of single discs.
This seems like a simple firmware issue: please update it!

jjwood,
Although I can understand the situation, please refrain from using bad language which is uncalled for. In any case, if the player is still having problem despite attempt at rescue mode, then contact Customer Support for service. If the store where you purchase the product allow exchanges, it maybe faster to be done through them.

• Zen mx 16gb player not recognising id3 tags.

,zen mx 6gb player not recognising id3 tags.I recently bought a zen mx and so far can not get it to recognise over half of my mp3's id3 tags. All of the files are drm free. All of the unrecognised files will play but get stuck in the unknown artist unknown album catagory on the player. I have tried retagging the files in several diffrent tagging softwares and upgraded my player to the newest firmware and nothing seems to work. I had a creative vision m 30gb before I had this player and it never had this problem. I contacted customer support but they didnt seem to have any idea what an Id3 tag was and offered no relavent advice other then upgrade your firmware witch was upsetting to say the least. If anyone has any idea how to fix this that would be awesome. I feel like I just wasted almost 80 dollars.

0Re: zen mx 6gb player not recognising id3 tags. It's just aggravating because I used to talk the company up all the time. The older creative zen's where awesome. They played every file that I had with the exclusion of open source formats like ogg witch is understandable because I'm sure that there is not much demand for that.
I wouldn't be half as upset as I am if I felt like the support people where offering decent suggestions or even an explanation of what may be wrong. I mean are there certain id3 tags that are not recognised? At least try to explain why it may not work to me so that I can fix the problem without having to re-tag every cd that I have purchased since I was fourteen. I don't think I'm going to buy anything from them again until I see that the quality of there products is getting better. Maybe I should write a review on Amazon to warn people away, after all the majority of the music that its having problems with was downloaded from Amazon.com.
Btw if your haning the same problem as me kid3 is a program that will retag your files to this players satisfaction. Not that helps if you have a large volume of music but its at least something.

• Problem with track order (ID3 tags) when transfering from ZENcast Organizer = Vision:M 3

Hi there, I am using ZENcast Organizer V.2.00.4 and my Zen Vision:M's firmware version is V..6.0e
Okay, I have a time consuming problem with the way my podcasts are organized on my player. When i download my podcast from ZENcast Organizer everything is neatly organized. By that i mean that the tracks are positioned in the order in which they were released by the radioshow. Let me just give you a picture : you can see that after the 27th comes the 28th and the 29th etc. That is also the way i would want the files to be played on my player, but unfortunately they are not.
Here is a pic of what the order looks like on my player after i have transfered some of the podcasts . Since there are no ID3 tags concerning track number, the player seems to sort the files alphabetically, which is a hassle for me as i have to search through my tracks each time I would like to listen to the following show.
The way that I have dealt with it until now is to download the tracks with ZENcast Organizer and then add the track number information with Media Monkey and then upload them to the player via Zencast Organizer. That is a lengthy and annoying process and since i have missed the show (due to my new work) for 4 month now, i have a lot of files that i must edit.
So I was just wondering if there is an easier method? I was thinking in the lines of a plugin for ZENcast Organizer that would add track number information? I wouldn't care if it numbers them 2 3 4 or 2 22 23 24 just as long as they come in the chronologically right order when i play them.

I did some testing and discovered that ZENcast Organizer indeed does know how to sort the files on my player so that they are played in the right order - under the transfer you just have to check the box which makes ZENcast Organizer convert the music (mp3) files into videofiles as shown in the picture: http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/439...ransferar5.jpg
This makes my player play them in the right order as shown here:
But i do not want player to be spending a huge amount of unnecessary power on showing a screen I am not going to be looking at.... my podcast is a radio show, there is nothing to LOOK at, literally.
Why on earth does ZENcast not change the filename when i choose to download the shows in their nati've mp3 form but only when I convert them to video?

• ID3 tags messing tremendously up on ZEN MX

Hello,
I'm a long time creative user, and had many creative mp3 players up through the years. Never had a problem, and always been greatly satisfied.
But with my latest purchase of a Zen MX I'm a bit confused about the way it handles id3 tags of mp3s.
My main issue is that it doesn't seem to read it properly. It doesn't care about track numbers, and plays my audiobooks in a total shuffle.
Also, when I try to update the tags, the are updated correctly in all my players (foobar, wmp, winamp, vlc) but when I transfer them over to the ZEN MX, it somehow fails to update the player, and the files are still stuck with the old tags, before they were updated.
Ususally I simply transfer the files through windows explorer, but since that didn't work, I've tried to use Creative Centrale, but that's even more hopeless: not finding all the files in an album, also not registering the changes I've made, etc.
Has anyone else had similar issues, and come up with a sollution?
I tried searching the forums, but couldn't find anyone with this problem in particular.

I am having the same problem.
Another long time user (prefering creative over ipods!) and never had any problems with transferring audiobooks onto my player.
Got given this MX for christmas when my last Vision M broke but can not get any audiobooks onto the player in any meaningful way
I cut a book into about 70 mp3 tracks. In my old players I could just transfer them using explorer. I would keep all the artwork, artist and files names and they would be in order.
With this MX I loose all the tag details and the MX will not recognise the "Audiobook" genre
The tracks are in some random order (and shuffle is NOT on)
Track numbers have been lost as well.
Artwork details has been lost.
Artists details have been lost.
I use my mp3 player for audiobooks and think that this beautiful player is worse than useless and I dont have the heart to tell my children who bought it for me.
I have tried to change the tags once the files are on the player but nothing works. I have used MediaJukebox, Media player, Explorer and Creative central. All to no avail.
Is there some software update that will fix this problem?
Please help.
John
