Zen Vision M possible operator problem

Hi, after getting a bit of a nasty computer virus I've had to reinstall windows (with all the joy that brings) and I'm now having difficulty getting my zen to talk to my computer.
I reinstalled windows xp sp2 which came with media player 9. At this point the computer was recognising the player in device manager but saying it had a problem.
Next stage was to use the troubleshooters on the creative site which lead me to install media player . Now the device manager doesn't see the device at all on any port.
Problem 2 is that the battery appears not to be charging. When it is plugged in the blue light on the top is flashing and the charging icon is also flashing on the screen. It has been doing this for a week but when you unplug it and switch it on you get the low battery message and it switches off again.
I have tried resetting it via the reset switch
I've tried downloading the updated firmware (but can't because the computer can't find the device).
I've also tried 3 different cables in every port. None of this has worked.
Please help me. All I want to do is listen to music again.

Is the device showing up at all under devices in control panel? There are a few things you can try, including the procedure outlined in this thread:http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ssage.id=34035?

The battery will only last about 3yrs regardless of use.You will need to change it. Did you scroll down to see the album, picture, track counts? Did you partition part of the dri've for removable storage. • Zen Vision:M 30GB recognition problems...Big t

Hi, 2 days ago i ran into a problem with my Zen. I had to charge it, as the battery was low and had to put some new music on it.. I plugged it into the USB port on my Laptop, where all of it's software is installed. The Zen wasn't recognized. Instead of the charging screen it normally started up with, it started up with the play screen(the screen it shows when a song is playing). I looked at the battery icon in the top right corner, and it wasn't doing anything. I turned the Zen off and started it up again. Nothing changed. I restarted my computer. Nothing changed. I shut down my computer and started it back up again. Nothing changed.
I took it to my desktop computer, a Compaq, and tried it there. It worked, but not how i was expecting it to work. The battery icon started flashing with the little lightning bolt, acknowledging that it was charging. But the play screen was still there. The odd thing with this is, i left the player to charge for several hours. When i came back, the Zen was in some form of idle shut-down. The screen was black, except for the battery icon with the lightning bolt. Oddly enough, he battery bar hadn't filled up anymore than when i left it. Upon unplugging the player though, the Zen turned off. When i turned it back on, the bar had filled up more. It wasn't fully charged though.
I plugged the cable back into it, and this time, the battery icon WASN'T charging. It just had the play screen on. It wasn't doing ANYTHING this time. Frustrated, i went out and bought the wall charger, and now i have a full battery. But it doesn't solve why my computer won't recognize my player.
Today, i un-installed the software that came with the player and re-installed it. It didn't do anything. I installed the software on my desktop computer, and THAT didn't work either. So i came to the website here and used the trouble-shoot guide. That didn't help, and this is where my problem differs from the other posters here who have recognition problems:
Back to my laptop: I have Windows Service Pack 2. I installed Windows Media Player . I went to the Device Manger, like the trouble-shoot guide said to. The kicker: Windows Portable Devices is NOT, i repeat NOT in my Device Manager. Neither does the Creative player either. I clicked on "The player does not appear in Device manager". That link showed me a diagram of a desktop computer, so went back to my desktop computer. I did everything above mentioned, and Windows Portable Devices is not in the device manager of my desktop computer either. Further reading the trouble-shoot guide, i could NOT locate "Other Devices" or "Unknown Devices" in my Device Manger on either desktop or laptop. There's nothing "Creative" related or "Zen" related at all in any of the Device programs.
I don't know what to do. All of the trouble-shoot guides don't discuss my issue at all. Everything is "If an MP3 player is reported working properly in Device Manager, but it is not detected or listed in Windows Media Player or Creative Media Explorer..."
Mine isn't even detected in Device Manager. My Device Manager has nothing regarding my Zen or Windows Portable Devices.
I'm thinking about messing with it in Recovery mode, but i don't want to erase everything i have on here, just to have my player still not work. I'm going to try messing with this at my friend's house to check the cable and the player there too.
But any help regarding my situation would be greatly appreciated. This is driving me crazy.

I tried my uncle's Zen Vision: M 30GB on my laptop and strange things happened. My laptop recognized the player as an unknown device and said i needed to install the MTP driver. I did that, and upon doing so, my laptop recognized my Uncle's player as a Portable device, allowing me to transfer songs to his player. But it STILL doesn't recognize MY player. Email support says i have to send it in for repairs, but i don't know...
    Any luck with you?

  • Zen Vision:M, Mediasource transfer problem and Digital Camera

It used to work. Norton 360 has made a mess of lots of things...
I can no longer transfer via Mediasource to my Zen Vision:M 60gb. I can view, play and rename files from Mediasource and I can transfer to the Vision:M via windows explorer (of course you don't get the benefits of gracenote or other tag modification programs). I have also noticed that on my XP "My Computer" the device shows up as both MY Zen (digital player) and and as Zen? DVP-HD004 as a Digital Camera. Is the digital camera piece related to the problem and/or normal?

The 60GB has a USB host feature for transfering pictures directly to the player that the 30GB does not have.Since the motherboard is not the same that makes sense.Have you tried turning off your Anti-Virus when you need to transfer files?

  • Zen Vision:m 60gb "Hardware Problem" Error Mess

My Zen Vision:m has been rebuilding after every startup so I decided to use the recovery tool to fix the problem. In the middle of updating the firmware, the process froze, my player rebooted and now it displays an error message that just says "hardware problem". I can't turn off the player, and it just returns to the error message when I reset, not allowing for me to reboot in recovery mode. Any help would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Creative Zen Vision M:30Gb freeze problem skipping between tracks

    Hi guys,
I bought my Zen Vision M:30GB 2 years ago. It was a regenerated model by Creative.
I'm fully satisfied of this product, i think the best of his category, but It has this problem since two years...Sometimes when i skip between mp3s (especially in random mode) it freezes and remains on the screen of current mp3, blocked...even I try to touch all buttons it doesn't unblock and i have to reset with a clip in the reset hole.
I've noticed that this problem comes especially when i use random mode of entire library (about 4000 songs) or however with a long playlist...it doesn't happen when i listen a single album (about 20 mp3s in playlist)
    Sincerely i'm a little bored ...
I tried to do some clean and format up by the system menu, but the problem persists...
I've also thinked the problem could be because there are in library mp3 with variant bitrate...or a physical problem (I hope not)
    What do you think of?
    Thanks for help!

  • Zen Vision M...editing problem & album

I've just put ALL my CD collection onto my ZEN and I didn't realise that when updating the file names I had made some spelling mistakes. Also when I was entering the info there was nothing about entering the release year. So when I play my songs the year just comes up as 0000. How can I edit this on my player? Do I have to delete them and put them back on my player?
Also, I have put the covers of my albums into the Photos section, how do I add these to my albums?
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Electronica,
I do not have a Vision M, (until (hopefully) they come out in 60 Gig size) but I can offer general help.
Your best bet may be to use a third party program like Mediamonkey or Godfather to get all the tags the way you want them. I use Mediamonkey, and it is very easy to pull album art and release years into the ID3 tag with the "Autoupdate" feature.
Now, I am assuming that the Vision M uses the tags like most other Creative DAPs. The above advice will not work if the player uses something else besides the tags for the info.
Once you have them tagged as you want, you can reformat your player and put all the tracks back on.
    I hope that hel

  • Zen Vision M video convertion problem: image upside d

Tried to copy .avi videos to my ZVM, but after the required convertion?(via Creative converter to .wmv format) the video appeared upside down. Tried several times with different files -- same result. Any idea?

    trm989 wrote:
I'm not sure what exactly is the problem with the video, but whenever I upload it, it will only play up 00:08 of 24:0. For some reason, it fails to recognize the other parts of the video, and only shows the video length as 8 seconds. The video works fine when played in Windows Media.
The size of the video is 70 MB, and the data rate is 966 kbs.
I would say maybe the data rate is the problem . I use this program to encode my videos & it has a preset for the Zen that also works well on the Zen VM. http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=527380BTW just because a video plays on the computer does not mean it will play on your device.

  • Windows Media Player 11 Locks Up Zen Vision:M - Possible

This may be of help to someone out there. My Problem:After installing WMP I could not browse my ZVM through Windows Explorer, Sync via WMP or Sync via Creative Sync. Basically everything was screwed up. My Fix:. Backup your entire collection of media (you may need another non-WMP machine to do this)?2. Update the player to the latest firmware, I used .6.0?(you may need another non-WMP machine to do this)?3. Boot the ZVM into Recovery Mode - Do not connect to the PC- "Format (All)" this will obviously delete all your files- "Clean Up"- "Reboot"?4. Reload default settings on ZVM?5. Now connect the player to your WMP machine, everything should be sweet! - No lockups!?6. Sync your media back on to the ZVM via WMP?My Theory:I have not formatted my ZVM since I bought it. I suspect that the older directory and file structure is incompatiable with what WMP expects from a MTP device or it may of got screwed up by me some how. The default folder/file structure on?a freshly formatted ZVM running FW.6.0 seems to be compatible with WMP. Hope this helps some of you guys out there, it worked for me.

Any chance of posting or PM'ing me your wmsetup.log file? So far I've seen one and that was a total install failure, so isn't the same problem you had.

  • Creative Zen Vision M 30gb firmware problem

My mp3 player took a spill onto the floor and it worked fine after. after i was done using for the day i shut it off and then the next day i turned it back on and it went to safe mode and said there was a hard disk problem. i was able to successfully format it. now when i start it up it says there is a firmware problem. i tried reloading it but the firmware i got off Creative.com doesn't recognize it, but my computer does.
    Any suggestions?

A Firmware Problem is like when Windows gets corrupted and won't boot.
You probably need to Reload the Firmware through the Recovery Menu, but I'd try a Disk Clean-up first, on the off-chance that it's a less serious problem.
Be sure to back up all your files first, as there is a chance that they'll get wiped when you reload the firmware.

  • There's video problems with my Zen Vision:M already (M video cable related) Please help

    Some background...
System:Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
Player: Brand new Creative Zen Vision: M with no firmware updates.
My Zen Vision:M has a problem (besides the scratch and fingerprint attracting top surface): It won't play videos on a TV screen when the M Video Cable (also from Creative) is linked to it anymore. It's only been a few hours...
I had the cable already, and got the player today. I let the player charge to /4th of a battery while I was setting up all the software. I ran the software programs just to take a peek, only changing the name of my player (to my name). I used Winamp 5.3 to put a music track on the player to test it. After that, I hooked it up to the VCR in my room through the white and yellow A/V plugs in front. It worked just fine. It to the tv a little large, but I was okay with it.
Later on today, the new AC charger I ordered came in the mail (Player came through UPS, charger through USPS). I looked at my old charger (Creative Zen Touch) and realized it would work with the plug-in part of the sync unit at the bottom. I tested it for a minute and it did. I still took it out and tried the new one. This is where, I think, something happened. I had to press the sides to get the thing in, and it was hard to come out. Everything still fit just right, and nothing seemed to be wrong. I used my old charger as I added more of my music library. Now it was on to videos. I had to convert the first two test vids (they were .wmv), but they played on my player fine. I put a bigger .wmv file onto the player to see if it had to convert it, and it did. It still played on the player. When I go to hook it to the TV with the A/V cord again, there was nothing but a black screen with the occasional diagonal scan line. The sound is still there.
Besides quirks with the navigational system, the player is still great for music and video. Still, I needed no video capability, and one of the things that made the ZVM a buy for me was watching my vids on the big screen. I'd return this for a second try, but I want to know if this is a recurring issue with you guys and if there's something I can do to fix it before a return. Did I mess with a setting? Should I get new firmware? Did I do wrong using my old charger? If any of you have an answer, or need more info on my situation, please let me know.
And BTW, does anyone know of some better software for organizing files on the ZVM? I used Winamp for my Zen Touch and the music on my ZVM, but videos are another ballpark. I can't transfer a video from one folder to another folder (assuming both folders are on the ZVM). Not to mention the music I transferred using Winamp isn't even showing up in Windows Media Player. I think I need a different program altogether.

I have got a new Creative Zen Vision W and getting the same problem....when i attach to the tv then i am able to hear the audio content and the video does not show. Are we missing something ? or is it a problem with the player. Also the software provided with the Zen converts small .vob files to .wmv when ever the size is large it gives an error 'conversion?unsucessful'.Any body facing similar problems please help.

That sounds like an electrical or electomechanical problem with the player. Since the Zen Vision has been long since discontinued, you probably can't get Creative to repair it, but you might want to seek out some of the third party repair businesses that might be able to restore it to original functionality.

  • Video Playing problem (Zen Vision M 60

I just got my 60gb zen vision M for christmas and i started transfering files right away to test out its playback quality etc
When i get to video particularly my anime video it plays the first 5 or so seconds and then freezes... no sound and no video.
The video is a naruto video from dattebayo fansubs. I think it is divx encoded (will double check to make sure)
What should i do to solve this issue?
I have not tried any other video's as yet but will do so soon

**bleep** it looks like it's slight differences in the encoding of the files that determin whether or not they play
I used Bleach episode coded by Lunar and that worked fine.
If it is down to minor differences in encoding that's causing this problem, surely it should be fixed as soon as possible, because of the massi've amount of different ways of encoding the player isn't really fit for avi playback if it's this temperamental :/
    *UPDATE*
I've looked at the bleach file that works and the Naruto file that doesn't work in GSPOT.
There are a few very minor differences that I don't really understand but the one that jumps out at me is the container:
The naruto files that don't work have the container 'Multipart OpenDML AVI, "rec list" style DivX Style "packed bitstream" AVI (223 frames in first part, 639 frames follow)' and the bleach file that works is 'OpenDML (AVI v2.0) DivX Style "packed bitstream" AVI'
I've bolded what I think the problem is, would those 223 frames (first part) be the 8/9 seconds before it freezes?
    Could this be the problem?
    *FURTHER UPDATE*
The naruto file that has the line 'First part 223' lasts 9 seconds whereas another file that has the line '(205 frames in first part, 32998 frames follow)' lasts 8.
I'm almost certain this is what the problem is.......any chance of a firmware fix for the avi playback not supporting multipart AVI files?
