Zen X-Fi Style crashes my PC

Hi.
My new Zen X-Fi Style mp3-player makes my computer freeze up after a certain amount of time. It can be from 5 to 5 minutes, but it crashes nonetheless. I can only reboot the computer after this happens.
I have thus far tried to use an external USB hub, reinstalled motherboard drivers/usb drivers, checked the firmware update on the player and done almost everything in my power to locate the issue.
Please help.

Hi,
Have you tried a different USB cable?
Can you try connecting the ZEN X-Fi Style to another computer to see if it's doing the same?

  • Mars language in my zen x-fi style mp3

i?used Zen X-Fi before and just bought Zen X-Fi Style last month.
i import songs into this new player by Centrale.
when i check songs at the player,?i found all the chinese words are changed into mars words.
but the chinese words are normal as?shown in Centrale.
it doesnt happen in my x-fi player before.
so i type the details of the songs again.
    but still the same.
i also use mp3tag but still doesnt help.
is it the problem of the firmware?
besides, i can not find my player in the setting of the Centrale.

    Hi,
It's just a common USB cable. You can easily find it in an electronics store.

  • Deleting songs on ZEN X-Fi Style doesn't work

    Hello!
I got a ZEN X-Fi Style 16GB which worked perfect until like 2 months ago. My problem is, if I delete a track on a player using the player (not PC), "menu -> Remove... -> Remove Track", it shows that the number of tracks decreased, BUT if I connect the player to my PC, the track is still there AND if I go to "All Tracks", I see there the old number of tracks with that one I deleted earlier.
The tech. support couldn't help me. What I tried:
    - format the player using windows explorer
    - format the player using it's recovery mode (command "format all") - this just deletes everything but doesn't solve the problem
    - clean the player using it's recovery mode after "deleting" some tracks (command "clean-up")
    - remove the write protection on tracks using windows explorer: the player set it again during it's "rebuilding" procedure after disconnecting it from the computer
    - use the Creative Centrale to upload tracks to the player instead of just copy it to the player using windows explorer.
    - reinstall the firmware (I already had the newest firmware installed)
    - google for it, search this forum, search the knowledge base
    - the tech. support suggested downloading a recovery software http://www.creative.com/products/mp3...ol/welcome.asp but I think my player is not supported by the software because after choosing my player I am being redirected to the player's page which doesn't contain such programs.
    some facts:
    - tracks are MP3, no DRM protection
    - OS: Windows 7 x64
    - I play it over "All tracks", no playlists or something like that
Any idea what else could I try? This feature (deleting tracks on player) is very important to me.
I do very appreciate your help.
    Thank you!
    Kind regards
    Kyfe

This is really a bad issue. I think unless you are in the warranty period please change it once again and more over please if possible perform the deleting task over there

  • Zen X-Fi Style not recognized on Creative Centrale anymore

    Hi,
I have a Zen X-Fi Style. Usually I transferred music files via the explorer on my laptop and then open CC to label the files.
However, last time I connected the player, CC did not show it ... "My Zen" in the left column does not show
I tried all three USB ports on my laptop, different cables ... nothing.
I have no idea what happened (no new installations, no other changes ... )
    Help !

My pc does recognise the player; also shows the files I put on it.
However, when starting CC (after pc has recognized player and all is still connected ) "My Zen" does not appear there anymore. With other words, I cannot view and edit / label files on the player via CC.
As it never was a problem before I'm puzzled now.
(Thinking about it, I'm not sure when I used CC last, it may be the case that it was before I installed AVG premium anti virus .... Could that have any influence on CC....???? )
I really hope there is a solution because pittily enough, the files on the player cannot be labled without CC, to my knowledge ...

  • Zen X-FI Style Armband

    Hi.
I wanted to know if the Zen X-fi Style would fit on the older Zen/Zen MX armband. or if there is an armband for it's
    thanks in advance.

    Tapieromateo,
I don't see an armband for the ZEN X-Fi Style yet. These are the dimensions for each player. It should give you an idea on the size of the armband you need.
    X-Fi Style
    Dimension: 83.6mm x 48.7mm x .7mm
    ZEN MX
    Dimensions: 83.2mm x 55.0mm x .9m
    ZEN X-Fi Style: 83.6mm x 48.7mm x .7mm
    ZEN MX: 83.2mm x 55.0mm x .9mm

  • Zen X-Fi Style has problems with large numbers of tracks

    Hi.
I use my Zen X-Fi Style to listen to audio books. But if the audio book has more than 250 or so tracks(256 maybe) the player are unable to list the tracks in correct order. The? tracks are listed in correct order in Creative Centrale but in the player they are listed in the following order:? 256, , 257, 2, 258, 3. etc.
    Anyone experienced the same?

    Hi Kokchoy,
sadly this is happening every start-up.
    I already tried the following:
copy files to the player by explorer
copy files with Windows Media Player (Win7) --> synchronizing
    --> But nothing changes yet.
It went faster when only 8 files were on the player.
    Also:
Everytime the player was connected to my laptop, it starts "reorganizing" afterwards, although no file transfer has taken place. Reorganizing takes up to 2 to 4 min, too.
currently I tried out firmware versions .00.04 and .00.05e. The behaviour stays exactly the same.

  • Changing or Loading Styles crashes InDesign

    Hello,
In a particular document, if I try to load or even change (paragraph) styles, InDesign crashes.
I've been able to load styles from the same source document into other documents. But this document, no.
What could be wrong with this document and how can I fix it?
    Thanks,
    Margie

Have you tried exporting the document as an InDesign Interchange document then reopening it again. The interchange format is like a no frills InDesign document that (from my best understanding) is realy just a set of instructions for InDesign to reconstruct the document from scratch.
    * So on the mac all you would do would be go File->Export
    * Select "Indesign Interchange" from the format drop down list
    * Select a destination for the file (eg Desktop)
    * Close the offending document
    * Find the newly created interchage file (ends with .INX) and open it
    * Cross your fingers and test it

  • How to fix my Zen Xtra from frequent crash

I've given up on Creative support. My mp3 player crashes frequently, and frequently I have to reset it to get it to start. After sending an email asking Creative how to send it in for repair (out of warranty), and having included in the problem description that the firmware was up to date, the only response was to tell me to install the firmware.
So, my question is how likely is it that replacing the hard dri've will solve my symptoms? It will sometimes play several hours without problem, but it frequently will either shut down, or reboot in the middle of a song. Sometimes the on-off switch will turn it on, but often I have to reset it, or even enter recovery mode to turn it on.
If anyone thinks replacing the hard dri've will fix it, I'll buy a new hard dri've. What do you think?
    Thanks,
    Joe

My second attempt at writing this. **bleep** I hate it when I hit the "back page" button on my mouse
papadisc wrote:You're correct that people mostly post complaints. When I made my comment I was taking that into account. With Amazon, the Zen Xtra has a much higher ratio of compltaints than other items I have looked at. I realize that it isn't scientific, but there are a lot of "I love the player, but it broke" posts. And it's frustrating to send an e-mail asking about repair options and have them suggest that I update the firmware when I clearly stated in the e-mail that I had already updated the firmware.
The key thing, as you say yourself, is that it isn't scientific. There's a 0+ variables at play that can skew these types of reviews, aside from simple things like iPod Zealots writing bad reviews about Creative players. Only Creative and the other manufacturers know for sure what the return rates are, and they aren't likely to tell.
Even the posts to this board have a higher than normal percentage of complaints about players malfunctioning after a few months. Today's " year old Zen Micro club" seems to have a lot of people who can't join the club because the player broke before it was a year old.
Again it just hails back to the sick people in a hospital metahor (or is that a metonym?).
Please don't take this as a personal attack. If my player wasn't having these problems I'd be happy as a clam. But I've never seen another electronic gadget that has as many reported problems as this one.
Don't worry, I never take these things personally I'm not a Creative Zealot, and have players from other manufactuers. Hell I'd probably buy an iPod if I had the money and the desire (although I really like the looks of the Vision:M!). I'm more a fan of the technology than anything, and enjoy helping people out here on the forum.

I am having the same thing with my player (Xtra 40g) . Under a year old. If I touch it it will power off. I'll power it on, set it down and then if I touch it to change the volume or something, it will shut off. but then there are days where it will work just perfect.
Let me be clear, I really like the player as well. I love it actually, but I most of the time it won't stay on.
I bought the extended service plan from where I bought it so I am gonna trade it for the sleek photo if that ever comes out.
I've seen this before with the Xtra and it was caused by an ill fitting battery. Basically any bump caused the battery to temporarily disconnect. The simple solution was to pack the battery with a bit of tape or paper. This might not be your issue but it's worth a try.

  • ZEN Micro hard drive crashes my i

I have a 5GB ZEN Micro. Works perfectly on my PC.
When I try to hookup the ZEN as a removable hard dri've to my (iMac OS 9.x), I can see or play files. But if I attempt to copy the files to my Mac - or to copy files from Mac to ZEN - it crashes my Mac OS.
Has anyone discovered a way to make the Mac more compatible with the ZEN hard dri've?

There is software which you can get for a Mac, but it only runs on OS X 0.3
Its called XNJB and the link: <a href='http://www.wentnet.com/projects/xnjb/index.html' target=_blank>http://www.wentnet.com/projects/xnjb/index.html[/url]
Check them out and give support and hopefully they might release a Mac version for OS X 9 and moreMessage Edited by DM on 05-9-2005 :2 AM

If you are a CC Subscriber, you can download DWCS6 for free from Adobe by following these simple instructions...

EDIT: And both DWCC and DWCS6 can be installed at the same time on your machine, you just can't run them at the same time.

  • Zen Touch Problem (firmware crash?) HEEEELP! (plea

i just got my zen touch yesterday when i got home from college. so i charge it up after opening anxiously. anyway, i install it and everything and then decided to install the latest firmware. well for some reason the firmware decided to freeze so i closed it since the screen on the touch was blank ( i think the firmware prog. said it was restarting but it hadnt for at least 0 mins) i tried to reset it and everything but nothing, now i cant turn it on or off, the power light comes on but the screen is blank and it wont go into recovery mode either. this morning the light finally went out but i think its just a case of the battery dying because i tried to turn it on and it didnt come on, and when i plugged it in the power light came on and thats it, any solutions?

i had the exact same problem,
i fixed mine, by using a pc that i had NEVER used my device on, it was fully patched (windows update) and had SP2/WMP0.
i then installed those 3 things, in the order they were presented, and finally plugged in my device, it was recognisesd by the upgrade program, it then warned me i was replacing a v2 firmware with teh same version, i said okay, and procedded to upgrade.
it seems, that for some reason, pcs where you used the device prior to the upgrade, dont seem to recognise the device, once its become MTP (or partially MTP when ur upgrade fails).
i found this was the only way to get it working, a fresh pc without the drivers or anything, just XP SP2, windows medial player 0 and then install those 3 things.
heres my thread if it helps

  • Zen Nano Plus 512MB Crash/Fre

The Zen Nano Plus 52 MB loads correctly, ans all the menus work, EXCEPT, the Play Mode option. What I do is I am able to 'click' on the pPlay Mode option, and it will bring the menu up, but the instant I try to scroll left, right, click, or press any other button on the player, it shuts off instantly. I've used 5 diffrent batteries, 3 headphones, I've formatted the player twice, and have re-installed the drivers from the CD. I am unable to load the updates, as I have Win 98, and they're not supported on that OS. This is also the second one of these players that I've had during my warrenty period, which ends Sept 3, the first one being returned due to an unfixable 'popping' noise during mp3 playback. So, my questions to you, loyal moderators, are #. What do you suggest I do about this? Should I send it to the factory? Should I take it to a friends house and attempt to load the drivers on his Windows XP? #2. Should I trust Creative to get it's act together after having two defecti've players, and ship me a working one? #3. If the answer to #2 is 'no', can I get my money back?
Thank you for reading, and hopefully fielding my question. I eagerly await a responce to help me with my plight.

There is a firmware for the Nano, but you'll have to email Creative Tech Support for it.
Get the firmware, and take it to your friend's Windows XP, as I'm not sure the firmware works on Win 98 (I think only 98SE at the earliest)

  • ZEN X-Fi Style 16GB Specs...? Are They Correct?

This is what is listed on the site: 6.22" long and high .5" thick
    Product Details:
    Product Length:6.22 inches
    Product Width: .5 inches
    Product Height:6.22 inches
    Product Weight:0.44 pounds

I think KokChoy-CL just answered your question; The dimensions he/she mentioned are correct.
The dimensions on the link you gave to Creative's site are not correct: 6.3 inches is obviously a mistake.
For your convenience I converted the dimensions to inches with the help of google calculate, and I got these numbers: 3.3 x .9 x 0.46 inches.
These (probably more accurate) numbers are also shown on this site:
