Zen Xtra (2.10.03): Extra "Music" folder upon reconne

Well, I have been using my Zen Xtra for over a year now, and have been entirely happy with it. Recently, I upgraded my device to the most recent firmware (2.0.03), as found on the website. I just have two small questions about it.
Firstly (and most importantly), each time I connect my device to my computer, I find that there are two folders on it named "Music." The problem with this is that I have found no way to remove the extra folder other than using Windows Media Player, and MediaSource and the Sync Manager use the wrong (empty) Music directory.
Is there any way to fix this issue, other than manually deleting the extra folder in WMP each time I connect?
Secondly, just out of curiosity, are startup screens implemented in the new firmware, and, if so, how does one go about changing them?
I would greatly appreciate any help or answers. Thanks!Message Edited by Tempest53 on 04-3-2006 0:32 PM

Thanks Chainsaw,
What I meant was, is the software interface within the Zen Xtra unit different. I have already installed the new Creative Explorer version. When I try to access my music now an example would be: I go into my music library, scroll down to Genres and select that, then scroll to R&Band select that; now, is where my new problem begins. Instead of offering me the option to View Artists within my R&B collection, I'm only given the option to Open the R&B file where it then displays all of my albums alphabetically or all of the individual songs (in the entire R&B collection) alphabetically. Before, I could search the Genres by Artist and then album. Now in order to search by Artist I have to search for an artist by searching through a file containing every artist, in every genre on my player. This is way too cumbersome and I'm very sorry that I updated the firmware now.
Incidentally, my son just bought the Zen Touch 20GB and we downloaded the 2..0 firmware on his player. It seems to be working fine with dragging and dropping files from Windows Explorer (Media Center 2005). The firmware on his unit has a proper filing system like I had before.
This is just a thought......what would happen if I tried to load the Zen Touch Firmware 2..0 onto my Jukebox Zen Xtra to replace the 2.0.03. Just wondering. It is a later release so it might take. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Extra Music Folder turns up unexpectedly in iTunes Media path

Everything will seem just fine and suddenly a new Music Folder will show up in the path of my iTune library. My iTunes library preferences path looks like this /volumes/music library +(an external hard drive)/music/itunes/itunes media/music...+it is at this point that all of my music folders show up in finder. However within this list of music folder another Music Folder will show and some titles or portions of titles are transferred under this sub Music Folder again located among the artist folders. I have gone and transferred these files back into the proper position under the original Artist Folder following the original Music Folder. Sometimes it is only one or two songs that gets moved and sometimes an entire album. The path remains the same under preferences. I think it may have something to do with iTunes organizing the files but I do not know how to correct this. Help!

I am totally confused. Once again an additional Music Folder has appeared in my iTunes Library path and some items have been transferred there. Again my path is /Volumes/Music Library/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music. At this point are the Artist Folders in alphabetical order. In the Artist Folders under the M's is again a folder Music and under that two Artist Folders, one Oscar Peterson which contains a single Album Folder (of which I have three OP albums) that contains 9 out of 10 songs. This is followed by a Doors folder containing a single album folder (of 6 albums I have) with a single song. In iTunes selecting that song and Get Info it shows the same path as above but with the extra /Music on the end. I am perplexed. I am dumbfounded as to the problem and what to do.

  • Firmware Update 2.10.03 for Zen Xtra and Yahoo! Music Unlimi

Right now I am having trouble with putting tracks on my Zen Xtra from a Yahoo! Music Unlimited account. I believed that Yahoo's music services were accepted by the Zen Xtras, but I'm not so sure now. I downloaded the latest firmware for my Xtra (2.0.03), and supposedly that is supposed to upgrade the player's Playforsure capabilities, including allowing it to accept subscription-based-tracks from music services. However, when I went to take the tracks from the Yahoo Music Jukebox it said that the device or the device firmware is "not subscription-music compatible". I went on Yahoo music's website and it said that Zen Xtra is one of the players that is supported but I was wondering if anyone else with an Xtra had any trouble with Yahoo's Music Unlimited. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

  • Why has itunes moved my music files out of the Music folder?

To my horror I just found out that itunes has moved folders (albums) out of the Music folder, Ive always found those folders very well organized (music, movies, podcasts, etc) now Im seeing some albums mixed with those folders (out of the music folder) and some albums IN the music folder as well, even worse I have the same folder inside Music and out!! with a few tracks on each, but in iTunes everything looks normal and it plays the album as usual, Im losing my mind over this I cant find a way to fix it, I even started moving them manually but there are too many, and for the duplicate folders I have to move the tracks that were moved. Any idea on why did this happen? I dont want to move the folders and lose hours only to find out that itunes did it again!! I thank you very very ver much in advance.

iTunes on a Mac may be more forgiving if you move things around manually, but it isn't really recommended.
Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
If you have upgraded from version 8 (or earlier) to iTunes 9 (or later) at some point, then your media folder (everything inside the red outline) may still be called iTunes Music instead of iTunes Media. The extra Music folder inside the media folder is used if you had an older library and have allowed iTunes to Upgrade to iTunes Media Organization (iTunes 9) or used File > Library > Organize Library > Reorganize files in the folder "<Media Folder>" (iTunes 10/11). Depending on your choices for Keep iTunes Media folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library plus a little bug in which one build changed the name of the file storing the choice of layout it is quite easy for some of your files to be organized according to one layout and some the other. (Recent installs of iTunes on a Mac now give the library file the .itl extension)
Assuming you're happy letting iTunes organize your files the following steps should tidy things up (should it be necessary):
    1. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Reorganize files in the folder "<Media Folder>" and click OK. Skip if this option is grayed out (already upgraded) or you prefer the older layout.
    2. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Consolidate files and click OK. This will bring any files currently organized outside the designated media folder into it.   N.B. This will create duplicate copies of any file that needs to be consolidated, and you will need to manually clean up afterwards.
    3. Select iTunes > Preferences > Advanced tab, uncheck Keep iTunes Media folder organized and click OK.
    4. Select iTunes > Preferences > Advanced tab, check Keep iTunes Media folder organized and click OK. This triggers iTunes into reorganizing everything according to your preferences.
    5. (Optional, if applicable) Close iTunes, rename the media folder iTunes Music as iTunes Media then restart iTunes. Check under iTunes > Preferences > Advanced tab that the location has automatically updated. If you can't access the media for any reason just undo the folder rename.
PS If you really prefer the older layout, but it is already in the new one then, edit the hidden file .iTunes Preferences.plist in your media folder and change the integer from 1 to 0 before doing step 3.
You should backup your library before attempting any major reorganization.
If iTunes is still creating files or folders in the wrong locations there is a possibility of permissions problems. Offhand I'm not sure of the correct OS X terms but on Windows both the system and user accounts should have full access permissions to all files & folders within the iTunes folder in order for it to work properly.

  • "iTunes music" folder inside "iTunes"

in iTunes preferences i have  /Users/me/Music/iTunes for my iTunes Media folder location
inside this folder i find a folder called "iTunes Music" that contains: duplications from the "iTunes" folder (in the higher level), songs/albums which are exclusively there but not linked from iTunes (when i ask i tunes to "reveal in finder"), and some which ARE linked from iTunes -- so, i cant really understand the logic of it.
something tells me it got to do with the home sharing, because i find there some tracks from other libraries/computers... but all and all, it takes some lots of space on my HD, and i would be happy to know if there's a way to consolidate all of it into one folder and get rid of the duplication.
    thanks for the help!

  • Nomad Zen Xtra Firmware / USB Connection Iss

<SPAN class=postbody>I have Zen Xtra 60Gb I was transferring music and then it said it couldn't transfer the track or the following track and so on. The menu on the Zen Xtra froze. I waited for a while but I got impatient I just pulled the battery out and put it back in to restart the player. Since then I have had nothing but issues. . Zen Xtra is connected via USB, computer makes the sound to show a USB device has been connected but the computer does do not see the device. 2. I have performed the scan disk, re-loaded the OS with the latest firmware and also re-formatted the unit. Somehow on Wednesday night I go the unit back in working order and then last night exactly the same thing happened again - I was transferring music and then it said it couldn't transfer the track or the following track etc... I did a all the same again to try and resolve the issue (except I didn't pull out the battery!) I am currently getting a firmware error. Any ideas?

  • HT1473 why does itunes media folder location in windows 8 goes to \username\music\music when pointed to the my music folder

I have recently decided to upgrade to windows 8 and with it clean out all the music in my itunes media collection and start fresh.
Before I start to download my purcharsed iCloud music or import my cds I set my media folder location to be "c:\users\username\my music\"
and the below images show the outcome, which seems like its a bug and it annoys me.
so now i have a folder called music inside the my music folder in my users profile, this seems really stupid i hope its a bug that gets fixed
if i set it as the below then all the music artists folder names appear straight under c:\users\username\
Why does the extra \music\ folder get added ?!?!!??? it just makes it messy.

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
Essentially iTunes wants to put its content into <Media Folder>\<Media Kind>\<Subfolders>. • Why does my finder nest an iTunes music folder within my music folder and not let me delete it?

I'm working on the arduous task of combining and winnowing down my multiple iTunes libraries and music folders onto a single drive. The last thing I have to do is carve out the duplicate tracks from a time I tried to move my library to another drive and it rewrote all of my tracks and added a "1" to the file name (making it virtually impossible to use duplicate finder siftware.
In going systematically through every artist and album folder in my new iTunes/Music folder I found a subfolder called "Music" which essentially mirrors the folder it resides within. In that folder is another "Music" folder with exactlay the same comtents. It's like those russian dolls.
At first I though I found the reason why my folder was taking so much space on my drive (1.4 tb when it should noly be about 70 gb), so I though I would just delete it--but it will not allow me to, giving me the error code -8072.
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks for your time.

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
Your library is in the newer layout and you are trying to move/have moved the media folder (red outline) to D:\Music. The extra Music folder is supposed to separate other types of media within the iTunes Media folder.
If you don't want (or have room for) your library in the usual location of <User's Music>\iTunes, then you are usually much better off moving the entire iTunes folder to the root of your prefered drive, e.g. as D:\iTunes and accessing the relocated library by holding down shift as you start iTunes. The media folder would then be D:\iTunes\iTunes Media and music would end up at D:\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\<Artist>\<Album>. Keeping this structure make moving the library easier in future.
Since it seems you've already started moving things around it is probably too late to move the library in a single step. See Make a split library portable for details of how you can proceed.

  • What's the difference between the music in the iTunes Media folder and music folder

I've noticed that the music in my iTunes folder has two copies -- one in the 'iTunes Media' directory and another copy in the 'iTUnes Music' directory.  Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the two, or what they're used for?  When I click on a music file in the Music folder, iTunes opens up and plays, but the same thing happens when I click on the file in the Media directory.  I have noticed that the file in the Media directory has the icon for the album cover next to the file name, while the icon for the file in the Music folder just has a couple of eight notes next to the file name.
It seems to me that it's a waste of space two have copies of the same file.  Or am I missing something?

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
If you have upgraded from version 8 (or earlier) to iTunes 9 (or later) at some point, then your media folder (everything inside the red outline) may still be called iTunes Music instead of iTunes Media. Depending on your choices for Keep iTunes Media folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library plus a little bug in which one build changed the name of the file storing the choice of layout it is quite easy for some of your files to be organized according to one layout and some the other.
In your case it seems you also have both media folders structures sitting side by side with music in each. It is probable that everything in iTunes Music has a duplicate in iTunes Media, but if you are not sure then you could add it all in, then remove duplicates. (Steps 6-12 below)
Assuming you're happy letting iTunes organize your files the following steps should tidy things up:
    1. First make sure under Edit > Preferences > Advanced that the current media folder is given as .../iTunes/iTunes Media. If not then in the following steps you need to swap the words iTunes Music for iTunes Media and vice-versa
    2. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Reorganize files in the folder "iTunes Media" and click OK. Ignore this step if the option is greyed out.
    3. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Consolidate files and click OK. This will bring any files currently organised outside the designated media folder into it.
    4. Select Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab, uncheck Keep iTunes Media folder organized and click OK.
    5. Select Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab, check Keep iTunes Media folder organized and click OK. This triggers iTunes into reorganizing everything.
    6. Select Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab, uncheck Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library and click OK.
    7. Use File > Add Folder to Library. Add iTunes Music. This may take some time.
    8. Hold down the option key and click File > Show Exact Duplicates.
    9. Sort the library on Date Added, select everything added today and delete it.
    10. Click Display All at the bottom of the screen to show all files again.
    11. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Consolidate files and click OK.
    12. You have now confirmed that everything inside iTunes Music must be a duplicate copy of something in the iTunes Media folder and made sure your library is connected to the copy in iTunes Media. Delete the iTunes Music folder...

  • What is the "iTunes Music" folder for?

I am looking for confirmation that it is a folder dedicated to holding converted files that i already have stored on my pc, and not doubles... Converted from WMA to w/e

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
If you have upgraded from version 8 (or earlier) to iTunes 9 (or later) at some point, then your media folder (everything inside the red outline) may still be called *iTunes Music* instead of *iTunes Media*. The extra Music folder inside the media folder is used if you have allowed iTunes to *Upgrade to iTunes Media Organization* (iTunes 9) or used *File > Library > Organize Library > Reorganize files in the folder "iTunes Media"* (iTunes 10). Depending on your choices for *Keep iTunes Media folder organized* and *Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library* plus a little bug in which one build changed the name of the file storing the choice of layout it is quite easy for some of your files to be organized according to one layout and some the other.
Assuming you're happy letting iTunes organize your files the following steps should tidy things up (should it be necessary):

NB This will create duplicate copies of any file that needs to be consolidated, and you will need to manually clean up afterwards. If space is at a premium try my scripts Unconsolidated to find out what would need moving and ConsolidatebyMoving to move rather than copy it.

    4. Select *Edit > Preferences > Advanced* tab, check *Keep iTunes Media folder organized* and click OK. This triggers iTunes into reorganizing everything according to your preferences.
    5. (Optional) Close iTunes, rename the folder *iTunes Music* as *iTunes Media* then restart iTunes. Check under *Edit > Preferences > Advanced* tab that the location has automatically updated. If you can't access the media for any reason just undo the folder rename.
    6. (Optional - Windows only) If Windows Media Player has ever had access to your files it may have liberally scattered folder artwork files about which iTunes won't tidy up when it reorganizes things, thus leaving behind a heap of folders with artwork and no media. I've written a script for cleaning this mess up which you can find at http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/CleanDeadArt.asp
PS If you really prefer the older layout, but it is already in the new one then edit the file called *.iTunes Preferences.plist* in your media folder and change the integer from 1 to 0 before doing step 3.

  • Zen Stone Plus Speaker. Browse music without starting the first song in the next fold

    Hi everyone,
I'm not sure what I want is possible.
I've had this player for about a?week now and I believe I could browse to the folders while listening to a song. For some reason when I do that now the player?start playing the first song of every folder when I browse through it.
I'm starting to doubt if I remember it right that it was possible to browse through while listening to a song before?
I tried playing with the setting and even did the recovery tool thing to put the player back at the setting it came with. But it didn't work.
Anyone know if this is posible, and how?
    Thanks.

Tag support: the ability to select music by album/artist/track instead of folders
Display always on option - i know its to help save battery life but sometimes it would be helpful if the display stayed on
Display artist and song name, inst4ead of just the song name/file name
Alarm clock function: my Zen stone plus has a speaker, and a clock function. My Zen Xtra has a clock and an alarm clock function but no speaker other than headphones (if any are plugged in) for the alarm to sond through, the same is true with my visio:M? the Zen Stone plusw/speaker has a clock but no alarm, and if anything it would make a fantastic little alarm clock with a 'sound' to music or wsound to beep? function.
