Zen Xtra 60gb (PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03) very sl

I updated my Zen Xtra to PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03 (on XP SP2, WMP 0) and it became very very slow on transferring data (mp3, avi etc.) from ZEN to PC, i.e. 5 minutes for 500mb.
When I try to download gb file from ZEN, win gives me an error like "no memory enough for this operation". What? PIV .6ghz, 52 ram, 20Gb on hard disk...
I tried to re-install usb 2.0 drivers but nothing happened.
Could you help me or give me new firmware?
Thanks,
Francesco.

Some have reported that reloading the firmware will fix the slowness. Gi've that a try and see if it works for you.
As for the file error that you are getting, download the following 3 hotfixes, esp the last one as it speficially fixes this error. The other 2 I suggest you download them just in case to prevent some errors that may appear.

  • Zen Xtra fails PlaysForSure Firmware update - Now it won't install a firmw

Zen Xtra 40 - Was upgrading from .30 firmware to 2.0.03 to support WMP and VistaFirmware Upgrade to Failed to Complete
Downloaded and ran PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03
It identified my Zen Xtra and started the upgrade, Zen Xtra rebooted and just sat there. 2 hours later I disconnected Zen Xtra and its in Recovery Menu. Reboot says Firmware Problem and goes to the recovery menu again.
If I plug it back into my system it says it found a 20mb 'Portable Device' MTP and lets me open the device but nothing is on the 20mb partition.
If I run PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03 again it says I must plug in the device, even though its definitely plugged in and recognized as an MTP device.
Seems like the PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03 isn't designed to identify the device after a partial upgrade? Tried older .30 Firmware install program, it can't identify the device either. Device shows up in Device Manager as Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra using a Microsoft Driver.
I've installed the latest JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_2_0_00.exe drivers and it does not help. Device still detects as a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra. If I uninstall Windows Media Player it won't install any drivers and won't accept the PCW Driver either.
Where can I get a firmware updater that will function when my Zen Xtra wants to be an MTP device?I tried another computer with WM9, just PCWDRV 2.0 drivers, and it will not detect and install the drivers when I plug the device in. Says it can't find suiteable drivers for this device.
    Tried Cleanup, Reload OS, Reboot.
Boot v.4 and HW v0.0. Any ideas?

Wow after searching hundreds of documents on this forum I got my firmware updated
!!! I took my notebook, which I had recently upgraded from WMP9 to WMP after I could not get it to recognize and upgrade my Zen. I uninstalled WMPI uninstalled WMP RuntimeRebootedI went to Microsoft and get WMP0 specificallyInstalled it and closed itI ran the ZenXtraPS4Audible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exeOn the Zen I selected Reload OS, I click to have it reload OS, while it was doing that I plugged it into the notebook. The Firmware Tool Detected the Device again!!Current version 2.0.03Upgrade will be 2.0.03I click Upgrade!?It upgraded this time!!?The bummer is ALL MY MUSIC is wiped off my device. I didn't format it, but I guess the upgrade does it for you. Which means I just lost hundreds of dollars worth of songs since WMP doesn't have a license transfer and all my music was on the ZEN. So even though I have the files on my computer, they won't play because I don't have the license any longer.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB not playing correctly anymore, help!!

Thanks. I keep getting directed to that knowledge base page, but it is not addressing my problem. My computer immediately tells me that the device has "malfunctioned" and the computer does not recognize it. I only have the usb cord that came with the zen, so I don't have another one to try. I love my zen and have staunchly defended it over the years vs. an i-pod. However, this is my 2nd onI've had my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB for over 5+ years. It has worked great, with minimal problems. I had a firmware update issue quite a while back. I'm not sure how to resolve this problem. Here is the situation:
Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB is fully charged and ready to use.
I tried loading a set playlist but it won't load. So I tried another, and it doesn't load. Not sure what to do, I go to the menu. This time I choose an artist/band. The music loads, but it doesn't play. I try again, then it starts to play. So I load a few other artists that way. It seems like I had a issue to work out later. Being away from my computer that was going to have to wait. After some time the Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB started to start N stop diferent songs. A few times it froze while playing a song. Then would unfreeze to play another, then suddenly start playing the previous one. After about 0-5 minutes of this I decided I had enough. So I planned to empty the playlist, and turn it off. It took me atleast three attempts to empty the playlist and turn it off.
Are these problems fixable What are they hardware or software
Would an OS or firmware update fix these problems Is my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB hard dri've going Can I get a replacement Or do I need to buy a new player
Please help me get my player working. I really like this model, I'd hate to have to replace it.
in 5 years. (The first one fried itself, but fortunately was still under warrantly.) Sadly, I, too, am considering moving on. I onlyreceived generic help fromthe Creative SupportTeam (who ultimately told me my zen is "unrepairable" when their one-size-fits-all solutions didn't work).Since there seems to be an overwhelming # of people experiencing similar problems, maybe the time is right to make the change, especially since an iPod classic 60 GB (7th Generation) is quite affordable these days.
    [/B]

Formatting will erase all the files on the player,Cleanup scans the disc & corrects file system errors, broken links (from when you delete things)ect. but does NOT repair bad sectors,Reboot then rebuilds the file system. I'd do the Cleanup>Reboot first to see if that solves the problem.here you will find how to open the player to see what dri've is in there. You can then search Ebay or Google the model number to find another one.

  • ZEN XTRA 60GB DISPLAY CRAC

I have a cracked display on the ZEN XTRA 60GB and would like to know if the parts (display/motherboard) from lower memory ZENs are compatible? Also, can the display and/or mother board (to which the display is mounted) be purchased for the repair to be done locally? WIth a estimated $40 diagnostic and an $8.00 part from Creative Tech Services, I'm looking for options. The unit is fully functional other than the display crystal layer being cracked. The unit is out of warranty.

The Xtra has a specific sized display, hence you can only use the display from another Xtra. The idea of transplanting a display sounds a little unlikely to be honest, you would really need to transplant a mainboard, and even that will be extremely difficult to find.
You could try and find a unit with a broken hard disk for sale on eBay, at your own risk of course.

You mean the center pin, inside the players socket? If this has come off/snapped you are a bit stuck for recharging the player via the AC adapter. You say that the Male plug (from the adapter) has the pin stuck in it's If it has then you need to contact Creative, If your player is still in warrentey you should be able to claim off it, especially if "it just broke"...
Contact them anyway and see what they can do, you cant repair the problem yourself without taking the player apart and replacing the entire socket. And you dont particually want to do that.
Tell me, did the pin just snap off, or did it come off another way?

Hi everyone,?Below is a message I've just sent to Customer Support, but I thought I'd also post it here in case anyone has any words of wisdom. Thanks in advance for your help. -- - Dear Madam or Sir,?Yesterday, I tried to connect my Zen Xtra to my PC to transfer some songs from Windows Media Player . WMP produced an error message stating that my PC had a driver for my Zen Xtra which is not supported by WMP. [This was the first time I had tried to Sync my Zen Xtra with WMP.]?I visited www.creative.com and tried to install the latest firmware for my Zen Xtra. The installation of the firmware froze and remained frozen for over an hour. Now the only thing that my Zen Xtra displays is Rescue Mode v.3. I cannot install any firmware at the moment, because the installation wizard keeps stating that my Zen Xtra is not connected to my PC. However, it IS connected and Windows XP detects it up as a "portable storage device." I have completely uninstalled all Creative products on my PC and reinstalled them using my original installation CD, but this has not helped matters. I cannot find any helpful articles in your Knowledge Base. I would be very grateful if you could provide some assistance in this matter. I have had several years of excellent usage from my Zen Xtra and I am extremely annoyed by this latest development. Not only did the firmware upgrade process require me to delete all the data on my Zen Xtra, but now I seem to have a device which is not functioning at all. Many thanks.

I've received a reply from Creative [see below] which is, frankly, a bit insulting, because it suggests that they never even read my original message to them. Needless to say, I haven't been able to solve the problem. I've written back to them and told them that I'd appreciate further assistance. I am having the same problem. Seems like to me creative and many of these other companies leave it for people like ya'll to figure out what is wrong with their OWN product LOL? I am having the same exact problem with my 30gb. Guess I will try what you guys and gals said to do and if no luck then would someone please let me know when there is a class action:smileyvery-happy:? I think it's about time companies became more responsible for their actions. Thank you all for figuring it out. I hope this works for mine. I think you all should send Creative a bill for figuring out their problem. I certainly will NEVER buy another Creative product again. i-Pod here i come

  • Issues with Zen Xtra (30GB) PlaysForSure firmw

Apologies if this subject has been covered, but I haven't found any coverage of the particular problems I have with the firmware upgrade (2.0.03).
My main beef is to do with the compatibility with the firmware upgrade and Creative MediaSource. Before I installed the firmware upgrade, along with the drivers and necessary software updates, I was extremely happy with the way MediaSource worked with my Zen Xtra. When I wanted to listen to music through my computer (often), I would simply plug in my player, and using MediaSource, I could navigate through my player's library with ease. It meant it wasn't necessary for me to store music on my computer's hard dri've. Now, while it is still possible to listen to the music on my player using MediaSource, the music library window doesn't feature the Artist/Album/Genre windows for easy navigation (Added to this, due to the way I backed my music up when installing the new firmware, my music is all in Artist/Album folders, making it even more of a nuisance to use).
I know it is the firmware making it do this, because with my friend's Zen Xtra which doesn't have the firmware upgrade, the old style navigation still applied. As it does with my PC Music Library (a function I don't use).
Also, the firmware seems to have made my player much slower and less responsi've, and (this may just be paranoia) the shuffle mode seems much less effecti've.
I wish I could just go back to the way things were, but of course, I can't, because for some reason Creative have made it impossible to revert to the previous firmware!
    Can anyone help?

Sounds like an incompatibility with the card, which is surprising as NEC cards are usually no problem. There are various things to try as mentioned in the FAQ post (search on "connection problems") but I think you need to focus on making sure you have the latest drivers for the card, as well as the player itself.

  • Zen Xtra 60GB, Nomad Exlporer iss

Some problems i'm having with Nomad explorer are: . Im trying to take ALL the data out of the data library and its telling me "There is not enough diskspace on either the destination or the temporily folder at C:docume~\user\locals~\temp\CTBNS\copy Please Free up more disk spaec and try again" Okay, i have 500gb's on my hard dri've and I did not fill up the zen, i'm only trying to move gb's off the darn thing 2. I'm deleting things out of the Zen, to infact free more space as its asking me to do, and its taking foreverm and in most cases, it will show that its gone, but when i plug it back in.... its there again 3. It's moving really slow, i have USB 2.0 ports and i have a super high end computer with a quad core processor 2gb's of ram I've never had these problems before, can anyone tell me whats going on with this thing The version of firmware is .20.08, i did all the upgrading it suggested. I just want my files off of this thing. Anybody else ever have this problem

    Hi,
Are you trying to move about GB worth of data from your Zen Xtra to your computer?
What's the file size of the largest file you are trying to move?

  • Need Opinion on Purchasing Zen Xtra 60GB

Fry's Electronics is selling the 60GB Zen Xtra for $249 with an extra $40 off with a rebate. However, they unfortunately don't offer an extended warranty plan, which is why I have not purchased one over the last several months.
Wal-Mart's website offers 2- and 3-year service plans for the 60GB Zen Xtra, but they are currently out of stock and I would have to wait for it to be mailed, plus, the price is $298 plus shipping and handling, plus $30-$40 for the service plan.
Should I take the risk for the low price? The Fry's deal is today and tomorrow only.
I haven't gotten one in the first place in part of the headphone jack problems, the slight gap between tracks, and also because I have not completely tagged my entire catalog properly, and I wouldn't want to waste my warranty time tagging all those files and once I finally get that done, my warranty is over and I have problems.
    Does it seem worth it's

ZEN XTRA 30 is what i have and i love it. this is my first mp3 player and it's great.
    i say go for it..
I second that thought. The Xtra already comes with a 3 month/ year warrenty, and it doesn't have a headphone jack problem. It is a stable mp3 player. Go to Fry's and save the $40

  • Nomad Zen Xtra 60gb

    Hi,
I have a very old mp3 player but I don't want to change/upgrade it as I'm happy with it. However, I have a new netbook which has windows 7 starter and when I connect my mp3 player to the netbook, it doesn't recognise. I can't find where I can install the creative drivers/creative mediasource so I can use my zen xtra on my netbook. Actually all I'm wanting to do, is to transfer my tracks from my player to the netbook hard dri've. This will then save me carrying around the hefty mp3 player and my music would be stored all in my netbook. The netbook has no creative installed in it - do you know if I can install something that would make this work.
    Thanks.

Install the driver (ver.2.0.0) , MediaSource5(ver. 5.0.38), & the Nomad Jukebox Plug-in(ver.5.00.22) using compatiblity mode(right-click file choose Properties>Compatibilty>Xp then run the file) http://support.creative.com/download...ale=033&nPage= Attempting to update the firmware will erase all your music files & can not be done on a Win 7 OS. • Zen xtra 60gb creative player, do creative still make th

do creative still actually sell this player anymore or have they actually discontinued making them as i'm looking to buy another one as the previous one has gotten wet accidently by a friend and is now completely useless, cheers shane.

I formatted the Zen Xtra, and have been replacing the tracks that I transferred to my PC Music Library.
BUT: Now it's doing the exact same thing ("Unable to create file" blah blah), after transferring about 500 tracks.
Creative's customer service has nothing to offer besides "try another USB port." And the fact that they use form letters to respond to this stuff is pretty obvious, in that the responses don't address my statement that I have already been told this, and done it, and have by now run out of USB ports to "try."
So now I have about 5% of the songs I had on the player before formatting, and it doesn't seem to have corrected the problem. I'll give it another shot, but MAN do I wish there was an update of MediaSource and the firmware [sorry for going "off-topic"] because this is ridiculous. I've got half a mind (well, a quarter) to take a hammer to the Nomad, get a refund through RepairMaster, and buy another brand of mp3 player.
In the meantime, I'll AGAIN restart my computer, reload MediaSource, and see if it doesn't crash within an hour, like usual.
    AUGH!

  • Problems transferring WMA downloads onto Zen Xtra?Upgrading firmware/driver solves probl

Being somewhat knowledgeable about computers, but clueless when it came to MP3s, I was very frustrated when I couldn't get music I downloaded from WalMart.com and Buy.com to load onto my Zen Xtra Jukebox (with Creative Media Source and Windows Media Player). My brother-in-law, who is very knowledgeable about most anything technical, said it had to do with licensing. I went back and forth with Creative support, and nothing was working. I couldn't get anything to transfer with Windows Media Player, either. I just happened to be looking on a help page for Media Player where it mentioned that if you can't get MP to locate your device, it may be that you need to upgrade your firmware. I did that and also the driver, and it worked (though only through Media Source - for some reason Media Player gets hung up, but at least it does recognize my device!) Another thing I found out is that you need to play your downloaded music while you are still online in order for your computer to get all the licensing info that is needed. If a technically savvy person is reading this, forgive all of my "layman's" terms, but I was just so proud of myself for figuring out the problem on my own! I hope this is helpful to someone who has been going through what I did - I spent hours trying to figure this out!

I will try to help as much as possible. You need to go to creative.com, pick Support, then pick Downloads, then pick your continent, country, and language. Then pick MP3 players, and whatever product you have. Down below you put in file type, language, and operating system. On the next page, you will find the downloads for the driver and firmware. Follow all the instructions. The driver download is really quick, and the firmware download took about 5-20 minutes with dial-up internet. Make sure you follow the instructions for the firmware carefully because it will remove your present firmware, so I would think you would want to make sure you get the new firmware installed correctly. If you need any more help, let me know!
