Zen Xtra Custom Startup Scr

Hmmm a startup screen? really where?
Its funny that they call it that, because the only time I have seen it on startup is when I reset my player after a firmware upgrade, as of now it would be more appropriate to call it a shutdown screen, it does show up everytime I shut off my Zen.
Secondly, I just sent customer service an email asking about upgrading the firmware to allow a person to set this 'startup screen' as the screensaver, whereas right now the only options are the clock or noW-playing screen.
Its a great player, but some little things would make it even better...
G Stinson

ggstinson, for some reason the firmware only shows the start up screen when the player has been off for(I think it was) 24 hours, and apparently when it shuts down.
I have never heard of the Extra having the ability to use other images than the clock of the now playing.

  • Zen Micro: Change Startup Scr

When I open up the properties of the Zen Micro (right click while exploring) in the Settings tab theres an option to change the startup screen of the Zen Micro, but its greyed out and you cant change it. Wondering if theres a work around, since a custom startup screen would be very cool.

    Nope, it can't be changed.

  • Zen Xtra with blank scr

Ok, so one night I am listening to my Zen Xtra and everything is fine, the backlight works, music is still playing, and I still have 2/3 battery left. But after glancing at the screen I noticed that the words and writing were gone. I tried all the buttons but still got a blank screen. Then i went to get a paperclip to reset it. With much relief, I saw the EAX symbol come up on screen. But after it had turned on completely the blank screen was back. It isn't my contrast, because it is set on 50%. The music still plays but i just can't see what i am doing. Can somebody please help?

So what should happen in rescue mode. Maybe you can show me what to press once i am in rescue mode b/c i can't see anything on the screen. I know what to do to get to rescue mode so you dont need to tell me how to do that. And if it is faulty, where do i go to get it fixed? Should i make a back up of all my songs?

Ever since I upgraded to the new firmware, the custom startup screens seem not to be working...

It's a known issue. Hopefully Creative has an update soon to correct it.

  • Zen Vision M issue- Freezing on "Creative" startup scr

Hi everyone. Thanks in advance for your help. I am currently using a Creative Zen Xtra 30 and love it. Have never had a problem with it. I just purchased this Zen Vision M (30 gig), turned it on and it locked up on the Creative startup screen. I've tried everything i could think of, including turning the power off (won't let me unless i drain the battery), using the reset button (just essentially restarts the unit and freezes again on the startup screen) and doing combinations. I don't hear or feel the HDD firing up at all. Is this thing DOA? Is there anything else I can do? Please help! Thank you very much!?Brian

I have the exact same problem. I just mailed mine in for repair today.

  • ZEN XTRA STARTUP SCREE

Anybody know where to get me some startup screens for the Nomad Zen Xtra?

Agreed, they really are pretty pointless. If you really want to make one just make a graphic of the right size, and make sure it's 2 bit i.e. monochrome. You upload them with MediaSource. Note that the latest Touch firmware has broken this function.

  • Creative ZEN Xtra Hangs on EAX Screen, Recovery Scr

Hi there. When I turn on my Zen Xtra it hangs on the EAX opening screen and when I use the Reset switch to go into the Recovery menu the menu shows up but I can't do anything, can't scroll the menu or select the option the menu starts on. I also downloaded the latest firmware for the player and when I tried to install it a message came up saying that the device wasn't connected when it was. Is there any other trick I can use to try to reformat/reinstall firmware?

If you do some research (although I'm going to save you the trouble).. there's this thing called "percussi've maintenance" that you both can try.. where you (at your own risk of course) smack the Zen Xtra on it's side toward your hand.. just give it a good thump, that's all.. thus freeing the hard-dri've's reading head from it's stuck position.
I bought a (supposedly broken) Zen Xtra on ebay for 60 bucks because of the issue you both have explained, and I got it working within thirty seconds after I opened the box. What a steal I keep saying to myself!
And if you happen to have the issue where you boot up the player and it goes from the 'Creative' screen to the 'EAX' screen, off and then on again, doing this in a continuous loop.. all you've got is a dead battery that needs to be properly charged. I bought another (supposedly broken) Zen Xtra on ebay, this time for 75 bucks, where I took the battery out, plugged in the 5V power adapter, let the thing boot up, waited until the backlight went off (it won't work unless the very minimum amount of juice is being pulled.. no backlight, usb connecting, music playing, etc.), and then dropped the battery back in while it was on.. and voila! A jump-started battery charge.
Sorry I crammed it into so short of an explanation.. I'm in a rush.. please feel free to message me privately with any questions.. But that should do it for y'all.

  • Zen XTRA Splash Scr

What application do I need to change my Splash Screen on my Zen XTRA. I remember when I first got it, it came with an option to use a picture as a splash screen instead of the factory loaded one. I was just wondering how I get back to the factory splash screen. Thank you!

  • Zen Xtra won't appear in Creative MediaSource Organi

I've been using my 30 GB Jukebox for a couple years w/ no real problems except that I remember there being a problem w/ a USB port & I had to change something so that the Creative MediaSource Organizer software could recognize the mp3 player. Now I've bought a 60 GB Zen Xtra (same player, x2) & am having the same problem. I've upgraded everything & hate the new interface for transfering files... most of the time the program just freezes. I'd like to be able to use the same Creative software I was using before, but it doesn't recognize the new device. If anyone knows what I'm talking about or how I can fix it, I'd rather not have to call?Customer Service?again for $3.

I'm just giving this topic a bump. I've upgraded to Creative MediaSource Organizer v 3.30.2, but it won't recognize either of my mp3 players when I plug them in. I'm able to use the Zen Xtra Media Explorer, but?most of the time it just freezes up. I'd like to be able to use the software I'm familiar w/, so if anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it. I seem to remember having a similar problem when I first purchased my 30 GB Zen Xtra.

  • Nomad Explorer not detecting Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra after firmware upgr

<blockquote dir="ltr">From the firmware thread: "The Creative drivers shouldn't make any difference. An MTP device is looking for the Windows Media Player 0 MTP driver (which is installed with WMP0)."[/quote]Is that why my updated Zen Xtras (40G and 60G) are no longer recognized by Nomad Explorer on Windows XP? XP sees them. MediaMonkey sees them (and can synch). (WMP0 is installed, but I haven't tried it.) Nomad Explorer (3.0.0, 22 Sep 2004) says nothing's detected. Is this because I'm still using the latest driver (2.0.00), which the Creative download site says only supports firmware below 2.00.00. (If so, interesting choice by Creative, making us downgrade the driver.)?I wouldn't care, but Nomad Explorer is the only way (I know of) to edit the devices' names and startup bitmaps. And I wouldn't even care so much about the bitmaps, but I really really want to edit the names so that I can tell them apart in MediaMonkey's list of devices. Can we still use Nomad Explorer? Which driver should I be using? Creative's download section is anything but clear:?2.0.00 (8 Oct 2006): Supports XP but the firmware must be below 2.00.00.
.30.03 (3 Sep 2005): Supports XP but was released before firmware 2.0.03, so does it support it's?There's also a legacy OS Driver for Windows 2000 (.0.00, 27 Feb 2006) which specifically says it supports PFS players. Is this what I need? Can we no longer use Nomad Explorer on XP (even though it's listed as a download)?

Thanks, but if the Nomad Explorer requires the suite to work, I'll just have to do without it. The Creative Suite is better than it used to be, but IMO it's still not as good as MediaMonkey. Still, Creative doesn't list the Suite as being required for Explorer to work, so I don't think that's it. From the Download page:?Requirements
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition or Windows 98 Second Edition<
Creative NOMAD Jukebox 2, 3, Zen, Zen USB2.0, Zen NX, Zen Xtra or Zen Touch<
I'll try the other driver tonight and see if that's it.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - cannot install firmware - PC says device "not connected&qu

Hi everyone,?Below is a message I've just sent to Customer Support, but I thought I'd also post it here in case anyone has any words of wisdom. Thanks in advance for your help. -- - Dear Madam or Sir,?Yesterday, I tried to connect my Zen Xtra to my PC to transfer some songs from Windows Media Player . WMP produced an error message stating that my PC had a driver for my Zen Xtra which is not supported by WMP. [This was the first time I had tried to Sync my Zen Xtra with WMP.]?I visited www.creative.com and tried to install the latest firmware for my Zen Xtra. The installation of the firmware froze and remained frozen for over an hour. Now the only thing that my Zen Xtra displays is Rescue Mode v.3. I cannot install any firmware at the moment, because the installation wizard keeps stating that my Zen Xtra is not connected to my PC. However, it IS connected and Windows XP detects it up as a "portable storage device." I have completely uninstalled all Creative products on my PC and reinstalled them using my original installation CD, but this has not helped matters. I cannot find any helpful articles in your Knowledge Base. I would be very grateful if you could provide some assistance in this matter. I have had several years of excellent usage from my Zen Xtra and I am extremely annoyed by this latest development. Not only did the firmware upgrade process require me to delete all the data on my Zen Xtra, but now I seem to have a device which is not functioning at all. Many thanks.

I've received a reply from Creative [see below] which is, frankly, a bit insulting, because it suggests that they never even read my original message to them. Needless to say, I haven't been able to solve the problem. I've written back to them and told them that I'd appreciate further assistance. To top it all off,?I can't even format the Zen Xtra so that I can simply use it as an external hard dri've. Does ANYONE have any advice on this matter? Am I simply supposed to accept that I have a defunct MP3 player on my hands?-- - REPLY FROM CREATIVE?** Kindly read till the end of this email before attempting to

I am having the same problem. Seems like to me creative and many of these other companies leave it for people like ya'll to figure out what is wrong with their OWN product LOL? I am having the same exact problem with my 30gb. Guess I will try what you guys and gals said to do and if no luck then would someone please let me know when there is a class action:smileyvery-happy:? I think it's about time companies became more responsible for their actions. Thank you all for figuring it out. I hope this works for mine. I think you all should send Creative a bill for figuring out their problem. I certainly will NEVER buy another Creative product again. i-Pod here i come

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra won't turn

My problem is exactly as the title states. I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra (40 gig HD) and I cannot get it to power on. This problem has been occuring since yesterday evening. I try to plug it into the computer via the USB cable, but this does nothing. The same is true of plugging it into a wall outlet with the charger that came with it. I can't tell you what the firmware on it is, as I have no ability to view that.
Any suggestions as to what I can try next?

I have (and left it out for fi've minutes, per another suggestion in another thread). Thanks to both of you for your help, I'm in contact with Creative's customer support via email now (thankfully it's within the 90 day warranty period)

  • Nomad jukebox zen xtra driver for use with Vista 32 b

    Hi,
I just registered in an attempt to find a solution to using my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra player with Windows Vista 32 bit operating system. Unfortunately, my old computer died and all was lost so when I purchased a new computer I naturally went with the most recent operating system, it never occured to me that my wonderful MP3 player would be considered obsolete (my various printers are all much older than my mp3 player and they all work just fine, my multiple?digital cameras too) anyway, I am running around in circles and I would not consider myself highly technical. I cannot download the latest creative firmware because without a driver my device is not recognized, and thus, creative will not complete the download since my device is not recognized...... when I go to microsoft to look for "nati've drivers" as suggested by Creative somewhere in the maze I have been stumbling through, the link I found in a search on Microsoft's website sends me to a creative labs link that...interestingly....no longer exists.... I sent an email to customer support, but they happily sent me a form letter stating that my warranty is out of date so they have no assistance to offer unless I pay for a half hour of their time in advance, and I find it odd that I should pay money to risk being told that they have chosen not to support this device, because if I pay money to hear that I will immediately hate this company, and I don't want to throw in the towel just yet, anyway, another option stated in the form letter was to use this forum, so I am trying really hard to state the circumstances of my dilemma in a fair and open way. It seems to me that with all the energy that was put into that form letter, they could have written a letter that would address this issue directly as I cannot fathome that I am the only one with this problem. So, per the suggestion of the form letter, I am here to ask if anyone knows of a solution to making a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra work with Windows Vista 32 bit operating system.....if there is none, then at least I will hear about it without paying Creative money to tell me so. If I should post my request to a different thread/topic area?on the forum, that information would be greatly appreciated too as I have never used a forum before and alot of the information on this site is more technical than I am used to. Thank you to anyone that can offer some guidance or a clear solution. Signed by a baffled Creative customer....Dani

Try reading this thread. I had the same problem and the solution worked for me. http://forums.creative.com/creativel...a&message.id=7?

  • How do I get out of warranty repair on Zen Xtra 6

I installed Windows Media Player and it informed me my driver was out of date. I clicked on their link and downloaded the new driver and "Play for Sure" os update. When I applied the OS update, it stopped after the first time it said my Zen was rebooting. I had waited 6 hours as it said it could take some time to complete. Now it goes to the resuce mode. I've tried disk clean up, format the disk, and delete the os then tried to flash up OS. The computer says the device is not connected despite it showing up in "my computer". I emailed Tech Support and, being very helpful, they said it is outside warranty. I responded fine, how do I send it in for out of warranty repair. They replied to call Customer Service. Now there is a misnomer if I ever heard of it. I called the 800 number. The nice lady said she could sell me a new player but I'd have to call 405-742-6622 fpr tech support. So I call the number and listen to their blurb about visiting to the website which has *NO* reference on how to obtain out of warranty repair. Then the phone menu determines I am out of 60 day complimentary support but I can get a tutor session for $2.99?I know how to use the player, I've used it for a couple years. What I needed to know was how to send it in for out of warranty repair. Back to the 800 number. Woman will help me buy a new player but says there is no way to obtain repair out of warranty but I can pay for a tutor session. I've searched the knowledge base and forums here. I see this question asked before and it seems like no one has gotten an answer. Can anyone please tell me how to get out of the Twilight Zone of Awful Customer Service and reach someone who can tell me how to get it repaired out of warranty?Or am I doomed to write off my $600 Zen Xtra as a useless paperweight?I have an Archos AV500 which needed out of warranty repair and it took me less than 5 minutes on one phone call to make the arrangements...

Did you download the PC version? There is no DOS in OSX.
Look for the Mac version of AutoCAD.
