Zen Xtra Faceplate questi

Hello, I have a few questions about the Zen Xtras face plate.
I plan on painting all my electronics to match the same. My question is, Will it void my warrenty if I paint the Zen Xtras removable faceplate?
And does anybody know if creative has any plants on marketing faceplates with designs or different colors? I know that the ability to customize MP3 players will draw in more buyers, Just look at the ipods. I hope Creative takes this idea seriously. But they would of done it already if they ever thought it would work.
basicly those are my questions.
P.S. My Zen Xtra has yet to encounter any of the problems that people have experienced on these forums, and i hope it never does. My old Nomad 0GB clunker has survi'ved about 4 years and it still works fine. Its been dropped, hit, battle scared, drowned in Soda, ect. Yet that thing wont die. Thanks Creative.
Happy owner of:
Creative Nomad Jukebox 0GB
Creative Nomad Zen Xtra 40GB

Thank You for your quick reply.
I'm glad I'm able to customize my zen. So many ideas are now running through my mind as to what I can do. I have been painting for awhile and I did a nice job already on my 0GB. painted it jet black and did planets and orbital rings. looks sweet. glow in the dark paint for the rings. when the backlight is on it looks crazy.
Well, time to start drawing some blueprints.
Ya, exchangable faceplates would be great. different colors, designs, happyfaces, astrological signs, anything. I'm sure a Halo2 one would sell extreamly well, heh.
Anyways. Thanks for the answer. Glad to hear it.

  • Nomad jukebox zen xtra firmware quest

    Hello all,
happy to be on the boards. I have a few questions I would like to ask:
) what product do I have? on the front it says "nomad jukebox zen xtra" with 40gb on the side. is it a "zen xtra" or a "nomad jukebox"? I was trying to find updated firmware, but found both "zen xtra" and "nomad jukebox" on the creative site.
    2) i've read horror stories of firmware 2..03. is there newer or firmware that works?
    3) is there a way to treat this player as a regular hard dri've? as in when I plug it into Windows/Linux (Debian linux), it will be recognized as a regular hard dri've without much trouble?
    Thanks all!

    Oo
    ps.
I didn't mean to take the hard dri've out and use it as a computer hard dri've. I meant: is there a way (maybe changing firmware?) to make the creative plug and play with windows without installing drivers?
An example: I want to go to a friend's house, plug my creative in, and copy a 5gb ISO off his computer. This is assuming he doesn't have the creative drivers.
I read that the 2..03 (or whatever the bad one is called) is supposed to allow this. Any solutions?

  • Replacing Zen Xtra harddisc quest

hello My Zen's harddisc recently died so I'm thinking about replacing the old harddisc with a new one. Here's my question: what will happen after I'v repaced it's Will my Zen just function again or will I have to install all sorts of software to the HD in order for it to work thanks in advance.

This guide was written for the original Zen, but the same basic concept/steps apply.
The community at nomadness.net also has experienced users who have upgraded their Xtra's dri'ves; here is an example.

  • Zen Xtra 40 GB Questi

Recently I purchased a new charger for my Zen Xtra from the site which took about month or so to arri've. After it arri'ved I added all my albums to the Zen Xtra 40GB player and carried it with me everywhere, then all of a sudden it got stuck at EAX Audio screen, after research, I say most people said to do "Reload OS" so I gave it a go. I got the message "Harddisk Problem" along with noises, after looking this up I saw the best advice they gave on other sites, even here, was to hit it until it worked. So I hit it once on the left side pretty hard and it went to Re-Building Music Library. It then froze on this screen, so I hit it again, now the noise came back. I repeatedly hit it to the point I got angry doing so as it was no use. Now it just turns on, makes a noise that sounds like a dull "click - click" repeatedly as it vibrates, then goes to the Reset screen saying Clean-Up, Reload OS, Format, and Reboot. So I tried every single option there, no luck. I still get "Harddisk Problem". After I've done all my reading I've seen I'd either have to purchase a new harddisk for it, or send it into Creative which I no longer have a warranty for. So my question is, are there any alternati've options? There has to be some way I can do this without having to pay as I no longer have the money to pay for it.

I had this exact same problem with the scroll wheel recently. Luckily I have solved the problem thanks to users here and on Nomadness.net. In fact my only posts on this board are because of this annoyance.
I was also having the scroll wheel pausing tracks and playing tracks when it shouldn't have been doing that.
For me it came down to hardware. I actually got my Xtra aroudn the same time you did and only a few weeks ago did I finally fix it. It was going on for about 2 months, and it just got to the point where I didnt want to use the player because it became such a hassle.
What I did was go to Radio Shack and get a can of Switch Electronics Cleaner. It was like 0 bucks or so. I also got a pack of .4mm phillips head screwdrivers as I was going to open the unit and fix it that way but to my dismay and maybe for the better the screws wouldnt budge on the unit. I then took the little straw thing that can attach onto the end of the spray nozzle and sprayed a small amount (one split second spray) right onto the side of the unit by the scroll wheel. The cleaner is safe on the plastic. I then worked the scroll wheel back and forth so the stuff would get into it and lube it nicely.
I fired up my player and at first it still had the problem, but literally after about a minute the problem was gone. I use my player all the time and since doing this not once have I had the scroll wheel acting as the play/pause button. Its back to what it was like when I first bought it.

  • Zen Xtra questi

i've a few questions about the zen xtra and would like to have information on this topic.
. what are the supportable formats? from what i've read, it's mp3 and wma. is this right? does zen also support mp3-vbr? and what are the supportable bitrates for mp3-cbr?
    2. is wma is a lossless format? for that matter, are there any other lossless formats that the zen supports?
    3. is there xtra 60GB for sale in singapore anymore? creative's shopping website does not list it anymore. i'm hoping to get the 60GB as i've a huge collection and also want to use it for transfers.

    tokens,
If your from Singapore then there's a piece of good news for you. The Creative Fest is back from 8-20 March 2005 with amazing bargain and offers. The Zen Xtra is available for sale there also. You can check out the offer here.

  • Firmware update for Zen Xtra, a simple quest

    Hello,
I have purchased my zen xtra on July. It works just fine. When i go to "about" in the menu to see the player's version it says .03.02. I don't know if i need to upgrade the firmware because nomad's page for upgrade provides a firmware with same number: Creative NOMAD Zen Xtra firmware update version .03.02
Does it mean i already have the latest firmware version in my player or do i still have to upgrade it's
    Thanks!
    Al

    Alrichi,
If your player already showing the exact same firmware version as with the download then you would already have the same firmware version. You do not need to update again.

  • Another zen xtra quest

Since I dont think anyone is going to read my other post again because its been answered by SSR who does seem to know it all so I dont think I'd read it either but If I've owned my zen xtra for a little over or under a year does that mean its is a newer version of the zen xtra with a reinforced headphone jack. It has the newer case with the cut out for the window but SSR said something about being packaged in a box or plastic blister type package and just so you know it was in a box(don't know what plastic blister type package is). SSR Also said the packaging and case might not be related with the new version. So I geuss my questions are is my zen xtra(little over or under a year old) a newer version and what kind of packaging is plastic blister packaging.

It's best not to post duplicate questions, although I understand you're trying to get an answer.
Even if you bought a Zen Xtra now, there's still no guarantee you're going to get one with a reinforced headphone jack as it depends how long the player has been kept in stock.

  • Zen Xtra 40 Gig Owner W/Subscription Questi

So I see Creative has put out some firmware to run subscription services on the Zen Xtra's now. Are there any subscription services that don't rquire WinXP? I just reinstalled 2k Pro like 2 weeks ago, finally got everything set up how I like it, and I don't feel like doing it again for another year. Considering the savings in cost per track to put stuff on my Zen vs. the savings of just a subscription fee, and my buddie's legit XP Pro volume license, it might be worth the upgrade. Got a few other questions too.
. I'm considering going with Napster To Go or Yahoo Music Unlimited (probably Napster as I f*ckin' HATE all things SBC). What's anyone's experience with either service, and are there any other services you'd reccomend? Part of the reason I'd like to go with napster is I'd get a free small player I could use at the gym or on my average 3 - 5 mile run. I'm sure either of these activities would beat the hell out of my Zen Extra.
    2. One thing I've noticed about Napster with my trial subscription is that all tracks still aren't readily downloadable, and you still must purchase them. Is this the case with the more expensi've "To Go" option? Are other services like this?
    3. I generally use MusicMatch Plus to play all my music tracks and rip my CD's. I noticed I could play the tracks I downloaded in Napster with WMP 9, but not MMatch JB 8. Does anyone know if there's a MMatch version that will run tracks from Napster, etc? I'm not too interested in their subscription services. They have no "To Go" deals, all tracks are $.99 all the time, MX radio ain't that great, and On Demand's not too awesome either.
    4. This is an important one for me. I noticed that the firmware upgrade says once I upgrade my Zen extra, I cannot connect to any non-XP machines. Is this true even for the data library? I frequently use my Zen to back up files or take my personal picutre collection with me.
    5. Another important one: I noticed on the firmware upgrade I may not be able to transfer as many files to my Zen and I may lose some capacity. The description specifically said this is more noticeable on larger players. My Mp3 collection's already 27 gigs (mostly legit too!) and several thousand tracks, and I pack another 3 - 5 gigs of pics / working papers most of the time. I'll likely have a ton of subscription tunes on my machine as well if I upgrade. What are these limits, and how will they affect me?
    6. I currently use NomadSync to keep my Zen synced to my ginormous collection, will it work with the new firmware?
Thanks for any info, it's much appreciated.

(Initial) Yes, all subscription services require WinXP SP or 2 and WMP 0. Microsoft did release MTP drivers for WinMe, 2000, and 98SE, but they require customization which no one has managed to carry out; and even then, the lack of WMP 0 for anything but WinXP strongly suggests subscription services won't work with other OSes.
. I tried NTG for awhile before switching to YMU, and I personally prefer YMU. (Don't worry about SBC; they just contract with Yahoo! for content--as does Verizon and many other telcos around the world.) I would say that you're better off using the stand-alone Napster player than the one embedded in WMP 0, although WMP 0 is a requirement. But then, NTG didn't have the free flash player when I tried it; if that's important to you, by all means go for it. (Though you might be able to find a cheap subscription-compatible flash player, probably a 52MB or GB SanDisk Sansa m200.)
    2. I believe that Napster still makes purchase the default option on trials; it switches to download when you become a paying customer. YMU has buttons on every track for streaming (play button), download as a subscription track (plus-sign button, formerly musical notes), and purchase (Buy button).
    3. I'd try upgrading to MMJB 0. Or consider MMJB 0., which officially is released only for Dell DJs but can be used with other players; it has a "to go" version of On Demand. (Perhaps DM can post the link in this thread.)
    4. Since the Xtra doesn't have removable-disk mode, you can only connect to machines with WinXP SP or 2 and WMP 0, even for data. The Micro, MicroPhoto, and Sleek have removable-disk mode; non-XP machines can access the separate data partition, but not the regular partition. The Xtra and Touch don't have a separate data partition, only the regular partition which requires WinXP.
    5. Though it's unclear, most of us believe the reduction of capacity is due to additional firmware code on the dri've--which explains the need to reformat the dri've.
    6. MTP is a different protocol from traditional Creative protocols; though not specifically mentioned on the NomadSync site, since it doesn't mention MTP, Janus or PlaysForSure, it won't work with MTP players. You'll have to use WMP 0, Zen Xtra Media Explorer (included in the Creative Software Suite), MediaSource 3.30.2 with the MTP plug-in (download MediaSource first, the plug-in is in the suite), or your subscription player (Napster, Yahoo! Music Engine, MMJB 0., etc.) to transfer files.

  • Request for Creative to sell Xtra Faceplat

Ok, this might seem odd. but creative should really think about selling Faceplates for the xtra.
My friends player and my player both need new faceplates. his is bent and wont fit on, and the plastic part inside mine has snapped.
The way i look at it is this. Creative obviously has these things in stock. they get them from some factory for pennys. Cause when they Repair them under warrenty they obviously don't open up a new zen xtra, take out the faceplate, then give it to you. so they must have them in stock.
Alot of people will buy them. If they have a broken one, if they want some to Customize, or they are out of the warranty, most are. and even the ones that are still under warranty that will just save people from sending those things back to creative just to get another faceplate, and will make creative some money.
Basicly, people want them, Creative has them. People are willing to buy them. Creative has a chance to not only make a profit, but to make there customers happy. I can't understand why creative doesent do things like this. it makes sence to me, and to anybody i've talked to about it.
Its not like they lose money or anything. they can sell them online so its not like they are paying for shelf space in stores.
Anybody agree? Disagree? or a response from creative would be awsome.

That's a really cool idea, especially now that I've seen so many pictures of the spray paint mod. I'd love to have swappable faceplates, depending on whether I was in the mood for aluminum or something more colorful. Or for a few pennies more, they could do the dirty work for me and sell colored faceplates. Same concept as the Neeon, but a bit classier than a sticker. I'll second this one.

  • No driver found - Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - WinXP

I have used my Zen Xtra for over 2 years now, with the same PC I am currently having problems with. I recently had to do a complete reinstall of Windows (note that I have done at least 2 other complete reinstalls during the life of my Zen Xtra, with no problems). Windows Device Managers sees the NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, but with the yellow question mark and exclamation point. Each attempt at driver installation results in the same problem. The driver ("JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE") installs completely, I'm told to reconnect my device so the driver can take effect. When I do, the device is still marked in Device Manager with exclamation point and yellow question mark, and Windows continues to ask if it can find and install the driver. I have told it not to (knowing that I just installed Creative's own driver), with no success, and other times let Windows try to install the driver (hoping it would find the Creative driver that was just installed). No luck. I have even done another complete reinstall of Windows, and tried to install the driver before any other program or hardware installations into my system. No luck. Note that there are no hardware changes between now and when I have done other complete Windows reinstallations. It just no longer accepts the Creative driver. I have also tried to install the driver in safe mode, with the same results. I have also completely removed the Zen Xtra (showing hidden devices in the Device Manager), and tried to reinstall. Firmware version of Zen Xtra was upgraded over a year ago to 2.0.03.
    Specifics:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    38GB free hard dri've space
    Zen Xtra firmware version: 2.0.03

I have the same problem. But when i try to installl it it says he is missing an .nfo file.
I removed WMP and reinstalled WM0 because is crap.
    I have Windows XP SP2
I have the newst firmware on it.
Can somebody help me with this because it's annoying not to put any new music on your mp3 player.
I never experienced this before even after formatting my HD.
Almost the same problem as fritzm but not completely because het gets an different error.
I have installed the CD but that doesnt work either.
I have installed the software from the website but that didnt help because he doesnt recognize my player.
    Please help!!

  • How can I use my Zen Xtra like a flash memory

Hello, I want to know how can I use my MP3 player like a flash memory.
I have one and if I conect it with other computers I can't transfer documents and with a flash memory I conect it in all the computers with Windows XP and all of they detect the flash memory and they can transfer documents.
With my Zen Xtra I connect it and the computer detects it but I can't transfer anything because the computer doesn't have the software.
My question is.. Do I have to install the software in all the computers that I use ? or there are other forms to conects PC and MP3 Player? ( I want to transfer documents like text, image, etc)

But some MP3 players do that, why this one can't be connected with all the computers ?

  • I can't get my Zen Xtra to work on my new comput

Hello. For years now, my Creative Zen Xtra has been working perfectly on my old (and I do mean old, Windows 98 old) computer. However, I recently bought a new computer with Windows Vista, and I just can't get it to work on there. I've installed all the software on the CD I got with the player, but when I open the player, it says "Not connected". All my other USB devices are working, and when I connect my MP3 player, it switches itself on, so I don't think there's anything wrong with my USB ports or the cable, and I can only assume there's something wrong with the software. I already tried looking for a driver update in the Downloads section of this site, but couldn't find anything for Vista.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be and how to solve it's If so, I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

Do you have any security software installed, blocking these ports? http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125

  • Deleting more than one file at a time from Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 4

Is there a way to delete more than one file at a time from Zen Xtra? Actually, I'd like to delete most of the 800+ files and the only way I've found is to do them one at a time..! Help!

Either use finder to drag and drop those tracks onto
"Library" in iTunes' left "Source" column or from
iTunes Menu Files use "Add to Library ..." then
navigate to a folder that keep a yoru tracks and
    select that folder.
This did it! I was doing an "import" which would only let me do one song at a time. But the "add to library" and the drag and drop both worked. Thanks!!!

  • Creative MediaSource/Zen Xtra/Vista Is

    I have had?a Zen Xtra for a couple of years, I recently got a new computer which has Vista Installed. After going through the nutroll that was downloading MediaSource for Vista and updating the firmware to be Play-for-sure, etc... everything seemed to work together. Except for one issue that I cannot figure out;
When I operated on Windows XP and I linked my Player to the computer I would see all my songs listed on the screen. Now on Vista I see folders of the albums as opposed to all the tracks listed. This is making creating playlists much harder, searches slower and general management of 6400 songs more difficult than it should be.
There has to be a way to be able to see all the tracks listed without folders, I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone here cracked the code on this yet?
Thanks for any help I can get.

To get it working with Vista you need to update the firmware to the latest ( last ?) version or one that starts with a number 2.something.
    to do this you need:
    a P.C running windows XP
and on that XP PC you MUST make sure that:
you have removed/rolled back windows media player
removed/rolled back windows media player runtime
even if you dont think any parts of WMP are there, check in add/remove programmes.
before starting the firmware update make sure that the battery is fully charged and the player is conecte dot the power suply/mains charger.

  • MediaSource 5 isn't recognizing my Zen Xtra pla

    Hi,
I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra mp3 player, version .03.02. I've had it since July of 2003.
I recently bought a new computer (Dell Inspiron 520; Windows XP Home Edition). My old computer had Creative Organizer software on it. I no longer have (or more accurately, I can no longer find) any CDs that would allow me to install that software onto my new computer.
When I first plugged my mp3 player into my new computer, the computer didn't recognize the hardware. I went to the Creative support site and downloaded this driver ( JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_2_0_00.EXE ). Installing that allowed the computer to recognize the player. I then tried to transfer music from my computer to the player with Windows Media Player 0 (my preference is to avoid upgrading to WMP , if possible). The computer *did* recognize the player and I was able to move music over, but when I unplugged the player to view the new files I had placed there, I wasn't able to find them on the player (I think they *are* there somewhere, but I can't seem to find where the Windows Media Player put them).
Therefore, I went back to the Creative support site and downloaded and installed the Creative MediaSource 5 software ( CMS5_PCAPP_LB_5_0_38.exe ), but when I open up Creative MediaSource 5 and click on "Transfer Music," I get a pop-up box saying that there isn't any mp3 player plugged into the system, so it can't transfer anything. It gives me that box no matter how many times I unplug and re-plug in the player to my computer.
At this point, I'd prefer to transfer my music to my player via the MediaSource software, since I have a feeling it will be more user-friendly for me. However, any advice that will help me with transferring music to my player and allowing me to find it easily on the player will be most appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
If you have not already, please make sure that you have the correct plugin installed. Check the firmware version of your Zen Xtra and go back to the download page where you downloaded MediaSource 5.
If you have the PlaysForSure firmware in your player, download and install this:
Creative PlaysForSure Devices Plugin 5.00.36 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer 27.90 MB
    CMS5_MTP_PCAPP_LB_5_00_36.exe
    Otherwise, download and install this:
Creative ZEN and NOMAD Jukebox Plugin 5.00.22 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer 6.24 MB
    CMS5_NJB2_PCAPP_LB_5_00_22.exe
    Hope this hel
