Zen Xtra-Failure to uninstall and what to reinsta

My Zen Xtra (USB on XP) worked perfectly until the sudden failure of CMS to load a new playlist. The Zen itself still works fine. So I thought a quick uninstall reinstall would be reasonable but a 23. MB "Creative" file in "Program Files" would not uninstall.
Should I ignore this or how can I uninstall it's
There are now more files on the Creative Download site: 2 driver files, 2 firmware files and 2 other download files, many more than before.
Should I install them all?
Thank you.

Not until the day that 10.8 is released will anyone know the details but it's doubtful you will have to uninstall Messages. Native Mac OS X applications that run on v10.7 shouldn't be a problem wtih 10.8 but again, we won't know until Mountain Lion is released.

  • Zen xtra 30gb battery issue and question about headpho

frist thing is that my zen xtra 30gb is having a minor problem concerning its battery. when i charge it, the meter doesnt fill up, however when i unplug it, the correct amout on the power meter is there. what can i do about this.
second, im supposed to be getting the sony fontopia ex7 within the next few weeks, what would be the best recommendation for eq settings.
if anyone can help, it would be gladly appreciated.

Whenever you get strange behaviour run a disk cleanup. To run a Disk Cleanup you need to access the Rescue Mode. To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.
If that doesn't help, you might also want to download and install the latest firmware update from Nomadworld.com downloads. Make sure to follow the instructions on the download page about how to upgrade.
If that doesn't help, then flatten the battery through normal use and recharge it fully before using it again (a full recharge takes at most about 4 hours). Do this a couple of times. Sometimes the indicators get "uneducated" and this is supposed to re-educate them.

  • Creative zen xtra problem, does anyone know what to do

My 40gb zen xtra freezes at the Eax screen and when in recovery mode, if I go to format or reload os it just comes up with a hard disc error... (no warranty). I have no idea what to do, can i replace something... or anything? thanks~

You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net at your OWN RISK. If you don't want to try this or are under warranty then contact Creative Support.
If you aren't under warranty you can contact Creative Support to see if they will repair it. If you want to try repairing it yourself, taking the risk the hard disk is at fault, then you can follow Rudi Cheow's excellent guide. There's also a thread here at the Zen Nomadness.net forum on compatible dri'ves, and the last page of Rudi's guide also has information on this.

  • Zen Xtra 40 GB buttons and jogwheel suddenly unresponsive

My Zen Xtra 40 GB worked for almost exactly a year, then broke. The jogwheel and buttons do nothing. The hard dri've is still intact -- I managed to copy all my tracks to my PC as a backup. The reset/paperclip button works, and the power button will turn the player on but not off. It really is bizarre -- everything seems to be in order, but the player just won't take input.
I've loaded the latest firmware onto the player, changed batteries... really I've done everything short of take the machine apart.
I've been in contact with Creative support, but they stopped responding after a while. Anyone know what needs to be done?

I had this exact same problem with the scroll wheel recently. Luckily I have solved the problem thanks to users here and on Nomadness.net. In fact my only posts on this board are because of this annoyance.
I was also having the scroll wheel pausing tracks and playing tracks when it shouldn't have been doing that.
For me it came down to hardware. I actually got my Xtra aroudn the same time you did and only a few weeks ago did I finally fix it. It was going on for about 2 months, and it just got to the point where I didnt want to use the player because it became such a hassle.
What I did was go to Radio Shack and get a can of Switch Electronics Cleaner. It was like 0 bucks or so. I also got a pack of .4mm phillips head screwdrivers as I was going to open the unit and fix it that way but to my dismay and maybe for the better the screws wouldnt budge on the unit. I then took the little straw thing that can attach onto the end of the spray nozzle and sprayed a small amount (one split second spray) right onto the side of the unit by the scroll wheel. The cleaner is safe on the plastic. I then worked the scroll wheel back and forth so the stuff would get into it and lube it nicely.
I fired up my player and at first it still had the problem, but literally after about a minute the problem was gone. I use my player all the time and since doing this not once have I had the scroll wheel acting as the play/pause button. Its back to what it was like when I first bought it.

  • What to uninstall and what to keep

I have been an Adobe/Macromedia user for a very long time and I seem to have accumulated a lot of versions of some of the same software on my computer and I need to clean things up and need some help in determining what to uninstall that will not affect the performance of what I currently use.  If anyone out there could spend the time to look over my mess and assist me with this I would be extremely grateful.   What you see below I copied word for word from My Programs List and am using Windows XP Professional.  If I have placed a question mark next to an item it is because I am not sure if I still use it but I do not knowingly ever choose it from the list.  I did not uninstall older software prior to this for fear that I would not e able to gain access to pages I created in the older software using the new version.
    What I have:
    Macromedia Folder:
    Extension Manager?
    Freehand MXa no longer use
    Fireworks 8 no longer use
    Dreamweaver 8 no longer use
    Flash 8 no longer use
    Flash Video Enhancer 8 ?
    Player 8 ?
    FlashPaper 2 ?
    Homesite + ?
    Adobe Folder
    ExtendedScript Toolkit ?
    Adobe Web Standard CS3 Folder
    Bridge CS3 do not use
    Contribute CS3 use
    Device Central CS3 ?
    Dreamweaver CS3 use
    Extension Manager CS3 ?
    Fireworks CS3 use
Flash CS3 Professional use CS3 now
    Flash  CS3 Video Enhancer ?
Adobe Programs listed by themselves not in folder but in Programs List:
    Acrobat Distiller 7 use
    Acrobat Professional 7 use
Adobe Bridge CS2 and CS3 this is really the major issue, can I delete Bridge CS2 without loosing functionality of other CS2      products I still use?
    Designer 7 use
    Extended Script Toolkit 2 ?
Go Live CS2 rarely but sometimes use
    Illustrator CS2 use
    Image Ready CS2 use
    InDesign CS2 use
    Photoshop CS2 use a lot
    Stock Photos do not use
Stock Photos CS3 so not use
    Flash CS3 use
    Contribute CS3 use
    Dreamweaver CS3 use
My issue is what can I safely uninstall without loosing any functionality of the programs I do still use/  Bridge is the major issue.  It takes up so much space and performance I want to uninstall both CS2 and 3 because I never use it but will I loose any functionality of the other programs in the creative
suite of which it is a part?
Anyone who would take the time to assist me I would be extremely grateful.
    Thank you,
    Jennifer

  • Zen Xtra FW 1.x and Creative driver 2.x compatibil

I have problems with my Zen Xtra (with version .0 firmware) when I update the Creative driver to the latest 2.0.00 version. When I use Notmad Explorer to copy or play files on the Zen, I get "Creative driver could not read the file, it may be corrupted, try reripping from the CD" errors.
When I reinstall the .30.03 driver things work fine again. Does the 2.x Creative driver only work with the 2.x firmware?

  • Zen Xtra 60 G jukebox AND Vi

I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing this, but I'm having trouble installing MediaSource on my Vista laptop. I've downloaded the update/driver file from the Creative website, but when I run it I get a message "Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system"
Does anyone know what this means? What sort of device is it looking for?
I think developers who use error messages with no context should be shot.

Actually I need more specific information than that. The readme file says I need to have a minimum firmware version of .00.07 before I can use this upgrade, but I've never upgraded my firmware, and it's version .0.0. Is that earlier or later? Am I ok to carry on?
    Thanks
Version .0.0 would be later than version .00.07

  • Jukebox Zen Xtra turns itself off and

The battery is dead. when I plug it in to charge it turns itself on, the Creative copyright screen loads up, then the EAX screen loads up then it turns itself off. second later it turns itself back on and the process is repeated.
Is there any way to fix this problem? I dont care if it means losing all the music I have stored on it. Thanks.

What does it do if you remove the battery?

  • Track ordering on zen xtra its alphabetical forced and i hate

i cant get my album s maintain the track order.
i want them standard as pressed order. both the player and the media center INSIST on making track title alphbetical no matter what.
all i want is for track order to be maintained as it is on the CD.
mp3 was ripped using mediamonkey gold. i have tried using mediamonkey to transfer and also creative emdia to transfer-neither fix teh problem.
i cant find a FAQ and nothing in the manual.
VERY frustrating when certain cds sound funky when played alphbetical... argghh.
    thansk
    mark
alsp it forces alpha when i make a playlist containing only one artists 5 songs... from 7 diff alblums...

    track naming conventions are;
    track number,artist,album,title,genre
thats what teh filename says... but i cant get teh creative program to show path or filename...
    hmm..
    thanks though.

  • Bought Zen Xtra off of ebay and wasn't sent the software d

Exactly which files do I need to find and download? (or can I not use it without the CD...)
The files that came up when I searched the site won't install because it can't see the player...which is the reason I need software in the first place.

I think if you go to www.nomadness.net amd downloads there os a list of all the programs for your specific player and its all FREE.

  • My nomand zen xtra has lock up and fro

I had my nomad over a year. Everyday that i don't use it. The nomad just locks up and freezes everyday. I try to take the battery out and putting it back in or restarting it. The problem keeps on hapening to me. Can you help me get my nomad back to normal?

We have 2 Micros in our house. My player just fell victim to the headphone jack problem. Other than that my player had performed flawlessly. Now both my player and my wifes only get about 9 hours of battery time. Some say the get the 2 but I have 2 of them now and still only get 9. They need to come out with a 0 or 20 GB player for the same price as the 6 GB.
Good Luck with your player. If the jack stays good, you will really like it.

  • "I wish I knew then what I know now" - tips from Zen Xtra Veterans to Newb

I've just purchased a 60 GB Zen Xtra and very much looking forward to building a library... I've been perusing the forum here and was hoping that some Zen Xtra veterans might offer their top 5 tips to a newbie
While this is my first Mp3 player, I've been downloading and burning concerts to CDs for years, so I'm sure I'll be able to figure out the basics on my own... really looking for those tips that "they don't tell you about" that often make a big difference in a positi've experience
FYI - for what its worth, the majority of what I'll be putting on my Zen Xtra will be free and legal concerts available at www.archi've.org -
While it seems like many of these shows are "tagged" with song title, artist and date of show, it seems that many simply retain only the file and track number designation
for example, the 5th track from a 2-25-990 Grateful Dead concert will probably appear as gd90-02-25dt05_vbr.mp3
So rather than "renaming" each track I think I'm just going to have to accept the fact that the name of the song itself will not appear - and I can deal with that as I expect to have my player set to a random shuffle for the most part anyway, or will otherwise listen to any concert straight through
So if there are any other helpfulf hints from Zen Xtra vets who have a lot of jambands downloaded, I'd appreciate your input and advice...
For example - as with burning a show to CD, in listening to a concert I'd prefer not to endure a 2 second delay from song to song within a sho - is there a setting so that there is no "gap" between songs in a concert, as the tunes often run together?
    Any tips would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback - I'll look into this and at least learn how to properly tag, determine how much time and effort it takes (I'm somewhat lazy)
From a practical standpoint however, the jamband concerts I will listen to will have songs that are played on numerous nights (the draw for fans is that no two versions are ever the same, and in fact are often quite different)
As such the same song will appear many many times in my library - I don't expect to go "looking" for a particular song and and although I might consider bookmarking some better performances, ultimately I imagine I'll cue up a show and simply skip ahead past any songs I don't like
In that sense I think I'm different from a lot of users who use the Zen Xtra - and with the file names already reflecting band name, and the date of the concert - I expect that should be good enough for me as I would likely be inclined to listen to an entire show
Really appreciate the feedback though - thanks... and still am wondering whether or not there are going to be "gaps" between songs and if there's any way around that

  • Fixing the creative zen xtra - creative firmware won't bring me dow

    Hi all,
Recently my zen xtra crashed as a result of Creative's shoddy firmware! Anyway, I'm out of warrenty, creative want to try charge me about 20 quid and I ain't having that (read my other posts you'll hear the whole story)
Well now I've decided I'm gonna try fix things myself. I've ripped my player apart to reveal the 2.5" harddri've. I've got hold of a caddie to hold this in and connected to the computer. Dri've is not recognised (as i suspected, the firmware has corrupted toc and whathaveyou). So I'm formatting the dri've now, seems to be going ok (i'm thinking if I can't get the player working again at least I can make a 40gb external mini hard dri've)
Anyway, what I need now is to compare this hard dri've to another zen xtra one thats working and well. If anyone has (for some bizarre reason) backed up their zen dri've in this way cause you let me know. I need to know the file structure that it uses (as the software hides the real structure) and also the firmware (a working copy please!) that is as how it is installed rather than by using the installation software for the more conventional way :smileytongue:
Any help with that is appreciated, and those of you who are like me and have a ?200 paperweight should consider making it an external dri've like this also. (cheap caddies on ebay for those who want to know!)
    hope this helps
    phil

if i get a friend's zen xtra dri've and put it in mine, would you reckon it would work or am i likely to bugger up that too?
if the firmware is part in hardware then i doubt there's a lot i can do, but my intention was to copy my friend's dri've to mine then put it in and see if it works...
    any ideas?
