Zen xtra-harddisk probl

So I knocked my zen xtra onto the kitchen floor and after turning it off, it gave me the rescue menu. Is there anyway for me to fix this so i can get it back to normal. I was thinking of opening it and checking all the connections. Has anyone opened one of these before? What size/type of screwdrivers should i use to open it's

There's a guide here for the Zen, albeit not specifically the Xtra. Apparently the Xtra is?a little easier to get into anyway.

  • Jukebox Zen Xtra - "Harddisk Probl

So tonight I brought my Zen home and plugged it into my computer to add some new music when I realized it was no longer working. I had been playing music earlier today. Now however, it boots, freezes at the welcoming screen of EAX, and then reverts to safe mode. I can not use any options in safe mode however, except reboot which allows it to reboot into the same problem. Any ideas on what I can do? Sorry if I'm a noob. It's a 40 gig and I've had it since about last may.Message Edited by victim on 02-03-2005 07:32 AM

Anecdotally hard disk problem means the player is faulty and needs to be repaired/replaced. You should either return it where you bought it or contact Creative Support.
You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net if you want, at your OWN RISK.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra FIRMWARE PROBL

In the spring of 2005, I bought a 40GB Nomad Jukebox Sen Xtra. It worked for a little over a month without any problems. Since then, it shuts off on its own and?it freezes. For the first time since I bought it, I attempted to load new music onto it. Now whenever I turn it on, it reads "re-building library..." and then it's stuck on "Firmware Problem."? I tried updating?the firmware from the website, but since?my computer no longer recognizes that?the player is?plugged in.
?I welcome any suggestions for this problem. Please help me so I can stop regretting my decision to buy this...

Kayla24?Looks like you're going to have to start regretting buying something?made by?Creative. There are oodles of stories on these boards regarding software problems and creative mp3 players. Creative have published ?'updates' that effecti'vely disable players but will not take any action unless the machine is still under warranty. The last e-mail I got from tech support said 'We know the firmware [update] disabled your machine, but unless it is still in warranty there is nothing we will do about it."? It was a Zen Xtra 30GB, it's now a paperweight. If your's still turns on, try reinstalling the firmware on a old pc/laptop that has never had Windows Media on it, but has been updated to media player 0. This sometimes works - otherwise join the crowds and get an i-pod. At least they work - and Apple fix 'em when they break 'em.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra connection probl

    Hello Everyone.
First off, I am using Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra (30G) with Windows XP - SP2. A few days ago my Zen Xtra would connect to my pc but as of today it no longer does. After searching through similar posts I am assuming it's not a problem with my Zen but with my PC. None the less, I did do my best to troubleshoot myself. I downloaded all possible firmware/drivers from Nomadworld.com. However - the firmware upgrade would not complete due to the fact that my device is not connected. I tried connecting my player to other USB ports on my PC - no luck. I used Nomad Explorer to do my transfers and as suggested in the FAQ, I tried downloading others (ie: MediaSource) however these wouldn't install because it could not detect any device. When I go to Device Manager/USB/ my Nomad isn't even listed. I have tried 3 different USB cables. The player isn't locked. Other devices work with the usb cables and port (ie: logitec clicksmart camera)
So now assuming it is a PC problem, where do I go from now? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me

    Hibbs,
Thank you for your response. The only thing that comes to mind is k-lite codec pack I downloaded and installed for the Indeo codec needed for my clicksmart 820. I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with the disruption of my device. The camera itself worked but wouldn't record videos until I installed the codec. Everything else to my knowledge is the same. No other new USB devices installed either.

  • Zen Xtra Function Proble

Hi,I order a Creative>Zen Xtra>30GB Nomad Jukebox a week ago. I have few question: How come the time that I set on the MP3, and below it is an alarm, I tried setting the
time on it and until that time I don't see a sound goes off in my MP3 or anything happen
while I listen to music or not.Another is Car Mode, What does that do? I don't see any differences while it's off or on.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

Now I understand about car mode...thanks
But...about the alarm in the zen xtra, lets put this as an example, I set my current time to be :25 am, and below the time, it have a bell [not acti've], and near that bell is another time [ which means that it's an alarm] so I set it to be :30 am, with a ring bell now acti've. So when the time is up while listening to music or not [the player is still on]. It still doesn't make a ring or anything happen. I think that is problem with Zen Xtra 30GB...
Unless someone have a solution about this.:robotmad:

  • Zen Xtra LCD probl

I've had my Zen Xtra close to a year now, and everything's been fine until today. I was fixing the clock set, and then all teh text disappeared. I tried rebooting, I reinstalled the latest firmware, and I'm pretty sure I tried a disk cleanup. Without the text I can't tell, but I heard dri've activity. The dri've wasn't reformatted, so I assume that's the only thing I tried. The backlight is working fine, and I get music playing, etc. Anyone have any idea if this is either hardware or software related?

If there's no display then the screen or a related component has failed, so it's hardware unfortunately. Links for contacting Creative Support are in the FAQ post.

  • Zen Xtra 40gb probl

I have a 40gb zen xtra and when its charged or plugged into the charger and it trys to come on,the creative logo screen will flash up and then the EAX screen will come up then the players screen just goes off and repeats the process until the battery is dead or i unplug it. Shauna Mahana,
Have you try running Cleanup function from the player Rescue mode? It might help with the file transfer.

  • Zen Xtra connection probl

Hi, I recently purchased a Zen Xtra 30gb, and it seems that i am unable to use nomadexplorer... I have windows xp with service pack 2. I installed from the cd as it said and tried to enter through my computer, into the music folder but nothing would come up its just blank, in the data folder once i enter it says 'not connected'. Now i installed the media centre and it works fine (at least off the cd) i am able to copy files onto that but unable to view or see anything in the nomadexplorer music folder. Its really annoying me as i cant copy any data files to the mp3 player as it wont detect it in the explorer! Ive tried getting the latest updates from nomadworld and firmares and it still does exactly the same thing. It only worked once and im not sure how... Ive tried everything i think! Any help would be appreciated.Regards,Darren.

There might be a newer version of Nomad Explorer at http://www.nomadworld.com/downloads/drivers
Personally I don't like it, and I much prefer the superior Notmad Explorer by Red Chair Software. It's shareware, but has more features and a better feel to it http://www.redchairsoftware.com/notmad

  • 40GB Zen Xtra Harddisk Prob

I've had my Zen since January and its been brilliant, took a while to get here due to middle-man company but great nontheless. Well, till today however; I was out with the Zen yesterday when suddenly the battery died, first time its happened but it didn't bother me. Charged it today and then went to turn it on to access my music, much to my dismay it stalled on loading up the mp3 player, pausing on the EAX screen. After about 2 minutes it loaded up the Rescue Mode screen, I tried rebooting it. Same problem, I tried cleaning it - nothing happened. I tried reloading the OS - 'Harddisk Problem'. I eventually after trying to update the firmware which didn't change a thing did the unholy task of formatting the disk ... again 'Harddisk Problem'.
Now I've contacted the company I bought it from AND Creative over this problem and I'm fearing its going to have to be sent back at the very least. Which isn't exactly the best scenario seeing as I'm heading to London next week, but anyway, if anyone knows of any way this can be fixed or if the the reason is quite obvious, please leave a post =)
    Cheers.

I've actually just read up on a site about this problem and scarily enough it was suggested a bit of brute force or shaking of the player may be advisable. I tried my hand at holding it at arms left and twisting my wrist from side to side, the other more drastic technique was to place the Zen on a surface, hold it, and give it a sharp tap on the side. The latter proved more effecti've and the annoying catching noise ceased to continue.

  • Zen NX Harddisk Probl

I have a Zen bought it in Febuary. i went to use it yesterday and all I get is a Rescue Mode message with 4 options:
    . Clean Up
    2. Format All
    3. Reload OS
    4. Reboot
I have tried all and all i get is an error message "Harddisk Problem" ! If anyone has any info or suggestions please feel free to email me @ [email][email protected]][email protected][/url]. I hope it is not a hard dri've problem/ Failure.
    Thanks RC

You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net at your OWN RISK. If you don't want to try this or are under warranty then contact Creative Support.
If you aren't under warranty you can contact Creative Support to see if they will repair it. If you want to try repairing it yourself, taking the risk the hard disk is at fault, then you can follow Rudi Cheow's excellent guide. There's also a thread here at the Zen Nomadness.net forum on compatible dri'ves, and the last page of Rudi's guide also has information on this.

  • Zen Xtra Harddisk Prob

Whenever I boot up my MP3 player it goes straight to rescue mode. From here no matter what option I pick it comes up with 'Harddisk Problem' and goes back to the rescue mode menu. I have had it for 3 years now and I take very good care of it.
It is out of warranty so a replacement cannot be sent out or it fixed for free.
    Any suggestions?

well maybe you have a harddisk promblem, Sorry to sound repetiti've, I think you should go to customer service and see if its a problem that can be fixed, at worst they may ask you to buy another HD....

  • Zen Xtra transfer probl

Hi, for some reason, when I transfer songs to my player, some songs won't transfer (About 00 out of 4000. I have tried all the different transfer programs; Winamp, MediaSource, WMP0 and WMP, and it is always the same songs that won't transfer across to my player. WMP reports it as an I/O error, and all the other software either freezes or skips it after 5 mins of trying.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks

  • Nomad Zen Xtra display probl

I was listening to my player last night normally, left it to charge, then this morning it appeared that the player was not turning on. I was in a hurry so I left it, then tonite I realized that it was turning but the screen in blank and this morning I did not noticed the blue screen. The player works otherwise, if I push the play button I will get it to play the first play list available and through the PC I can connect to the unit with no problems. I already tried to reset the unit, and it powered off and restarted but still blank screen
!!! Any suggestions please??Thank you for reading my question?Steve

Hello everyone,? I was playing with the player today, tried to reset it again, same the screen lights blue but there are no words, so I pushed the play button a few times to see what happens and it started to play the album I played the last time the player worked correctly. The thing is after the album was done and the player whent off, I would do it again, pushing the button at ramdom different times, and again, the same album would play!!! What are the odds of that? I even tried a few hours later with the same results. Is there a possibility that the player got locked on that album and that is why the screen is blank? :smileyvery-happy:?Is that is the case, How do I unlock the player since nothing is displayed in the screen?Any help would be sooooo appreciated?Steven

  • Zen Xtra nomad jukebox, harddisk probl

So my player finally crapped out on me for reasons unknown. It worked one day and then went kaput the next! I did a scandisk which did nothing but bring me back to the rescue mode menu v.3, Boot v.2 When I choose format all I get it showing "harddisk problems." I'm guessing there's nothing I can do about this, but I'm hoping I'm wrong. Is it possibly related to firmware? Any help would be obliged!

Yeah now you know it for the next time :P
But anyway you might consider buying a new HDD in your local shop or i-netshop. You just need a 2,5" laptop HDD. A least that worked for me Now I have an unique Zen Xtra. With 00Gigs
