Zen Xtra keeps freezing up on any track

Ok. I Did the clean up option, format and updated the firmware. I put a album on the machine. Tried track 4, it freezed up. Couldnt move up or down on the album list. The only way i could move up or down is by resetting the machine. Then i went back, tried track 8, it freezed up as well.
What is the problem?

If you have tried those options and it still hangs, it would be best to contact Customer Support for assistance:

  • Zen xtra keeps freezing

Whenever i try to put a song on m zen xtra then try to play it, just freezes up each time and on other songs too.

Make sure to read the?BEFORE you post, READ THIS FIRST (FAQ) post. Also the method of accessing the Rescue Mode (to access Disk Cleanup) is described in a sticky post at the top of the forum.

  • My Zen Micro keeps freezing up when i shut it d

as stated in my subject, my Zen micro keeps freezing when i try to shut it off (it stays at the "shutting down player" screen). then, no buttons work and the only thing for me to do is take the battery out and put it back in. Is this happening to anyone else? I sent it back to them last time for this and they said they "fixed" it, but they mailed it back to me with the same problem not repaired. kind of annoying. Does anyone know anything more about this or if i'm doing something wrong when i'm shutting it off (not that I imagine anyone could possibly screw that up, but who knows). Thanks a lot.

What else have you tried? For example, have you worked through the options in Rescue Mode?

HELP PLEASE!  I am working with GH4 4k footage in adobe preimere and the computer keeps freezing... any ideas?

Thanks for your response.  I'm sorry for the lack of details, but posting a question on this forum is completly new to me, so I guess I am learning how it works.
I have to be honest, I am a novice to video editing, but I am here to learn so I will provide all the info I know and please let me know if it is enough...
I filmed my first feature film on a Panasonic GH4. We filmed in 4k (compressed files).  I am about 900 GB of total files for all the footage.  I am currently editing on a 17' Toshiba Satellite i7 with 750 GB of space and I believe 8 gb of ram.  All of the footage for the film is not on the computer, but stored on a 1 TB external hardrive (Rugged Lacie is the name of the hard drive).  I am using a usb 3.0 from the hard drive to the computer.
I actually was able to get through about 17 mins of edits for the film before I started to experiencing the computer completely freezing up on me.  I tried using a different hard drive, and same issue.  A friend mentioned it might just be the computer is not powerful enough to edit all the footage, but he wasn't for sure considering the computer is less than a year old and is on the higher end for a toshiba.
I am requesting advice on how to continue editing the film without the computer crashing if that is even possible with using the same computer.  If not what would be my options?
    Thank you!

  • Zen Xtra Keeps Going Wrong!

    Hi there,
I've had my Zen Xtra 30gb for around 3 years now and recently it froze and was just stuck paused on a track, so I did the hard reset/format on it, and it seems to be fine for around a month. Yesterday I turned it on again and it shows the welcome screen then resets itself and makes a funny noise, like the hard dri've is getting stuck or something. It repeats this process until I take the battery out. Is it broken? I could probably reset again and it would work but I need something more reliable
    Thanks,
    sad_muso

Sounds as though your hard-dri've is on it's way out - you could try re-formatting the hard-dri've as this will mark any bad sectors on the hard-dri've as unusable or fix a corrupt file system, but if the hard-dri've is about to give up then a re-format could be the final nail in the coffin. I'd also check to make sure that it's not caused by a corrupt music file - does this only happen on certain music files? If so, they could be corrupt and that's why they are crashing your player. Try re-ripping them and see if that makes a difference.

  • Jukebox Zen Xtra keeps switching itself

Have got a 30GB Jukebox Zen Xtra (had it since Christmas)...
Everything is fine, except it keeps turning itself on and then playing until I notice it or the battery dies.
I always make sure I have turned it off properly, and the first time it happened I thought that something had pressed on the on/off button accidentally. This was not the case though. Recently, it has been doing it when the player is sat on a flat surface with nothing touching it.
It's getting annoying, as it often plays through the night (when I'm in bed) and when I come to use it on the train in the morning, there's no battery left
Anyone else experienced this or know how to stop it's
    Any help appreciated
    Thanks

  • My Zen Xtra keeps going into rescue mo

  • Zen Xtra 30GB freezes up on

I have a Zen Xtra 30GB that is just about 2 weeks old, and it just froze on me this morning. I mean completely froze, I could not even turn it off, I had to remove the battery to shut it off. What gives?

Could be a number of things. Is it working now? If so, take note of which file it froze on (if you remember) and try playing that again to see if it works. If it hangs again, it could be a problem with that particular file.
Try running the Clean Up in Rescue Mode.

  • Macbook Pro keeps freezing/locking up. any thoughts?

My Macbook Pro freezings and displays the rainbow and random times.  To solve it temporarily, I close the macbook and wait until the white light starts blinking again, which usually takes about 5 minutes.  It's been doing this for well over a year now, does anyone have any idea how to fix this/what is causing the problem?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • My Zen Xtra keeps resetti

Hi, this is very annoying, and before anyone says anything, yes I have read the FAQs and I really don't understand technical jargon one bit.
Everytime I move the player, it seems to reset. I bought this last week to go on holiday with (I leave on Tuesday) and it's been giving me so much grief.
I hope this can be cleared up.
    Thanks.

This sounds like a battery compartment problem I've occasionally seen on GameBoy Advance SP, which uses a similar compartment and Li-ion battery. Take out the battery and tug a little on the terminals on the player so they poke out a tad further. Wipe those terminals and the flat ones on the battery itself with a dry Q-tip. Put the battery back and test it.
As for the "plastic thing" around the battery, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. The little clear plastic strip under the battery in the compartment is a strap; you'll find it quite helpful in removing the battery. The white shrink-stuff with printing around the battery itself is just a label and shouldn't be removed. The black plastic you can see at either end of the battery is the shell, and also shouldn't be removed. As long as you don't still have the battery in the little baggie it came in and nothing's blocking the terminals, it's OK.

  • My 30 GB Zen Xtra Freezes at start

When I turn on my Zen Xtra, it freezes at the "Creative" screen. I have reset it and have tried removing the battery, but it hasn't helped. If it helps, I haven't used it for around 6 months.

I am having the same but it seems that changing the "play mode" from "Normal" to "Shuffle" does mine in,(now it seems as if any use of controls causes freeze ups)then the only way out if you find your self with out a small object is to remove the battery.
I have ran scan disk,I have removed all files and reloaded them,I am next going to check my mp3's for corruption and fix them or not load them up and see if this persists.
As a note i had the Zen for over a month where it performed flawlessly with the same files loaded before it started doing this. It's very frustrating as it happens all the time now unless I start play and don't touch any controls.

  • Backup and listing of Zen Xtra

If you've spent a lot of time creating your music database on a large-capacity Creative MP3 player (e,g, 30 - 40 Gb Jukebox Zen Xtra) then you want to make sure you have a backup of that database if that MP3 player fails.
Considering the low cost of high-capacity HD backup dri'ves now (~ $20. for 500 Gb), this is a good solution and a compact HD dri've with USB connectivity with all your music files provides instant playability on any other computer.
Here is the approach I used:
    - WinXP sp3 52 Mb RAM, 30 Gb spare HD space
    - MP3 player: Jukebox Zen Xtra 40 Gb with about 4200 tracks (many MP3, many wav, some wma etc.)
    - backup HD: 500 Gb WD Passport Essential
Using Zen Explorer (like Windows Explorer), select groups of tracks you want to copy from the Zen dri've listing (right area).
There will be some Creative "locked" files that can't be copied out from the Zen dri've. So just select large sections of tracks BETWEEN these locked files. You might be able to selecte multiple groups , but I find that it'sis a simpler way to do single groups at a time as it allows you to check the results on the target HD periodically and if there is a failed copy for some reason, it is easier to know where you are in the process.
Drag and drop the selected groups over to some target folder on the backup HD (e.g. H:\Jukebox). With a large database on your Zen, this will take some time. You can of course split the backups into different folders, but I opted to put all 4200 tracks in one folder ... with no problems with that many files in one folder (WinXP sp3).
When finished, do a directory listing of the backup dri've content folder to check the results.
An added bonus now is that you can output a simple-text complete listing of all tracks from this HD folder, e.g.
    dir /B>mymusic.txt
which outputs a Barebones directory listing of all files in that folder to an output file mymusic.txt
Listing the files in Windows explorer in "details" mode also shows all the tags and file information.

    Excellent advice & information

  • Zen Xtra play m

I have a Zen Xtra 40GB. Here is the problem I have.
When the play mode is set at "normal", it should play like a normal CD player, that is start the next track after the current one is finished.
It only works if I start with track 0.
If you have a Zen Xtra, or if you have any of Creative's MP3 player, please try this:
. set play mode at normal.
    2. open a playlist, manually select a sound track that is NOT track 0, say track 03.
    3. play track 03.
    4. check if the player start to play track 04 after track 03 is finished or it simply stops as if the play mode was "track once". Mine simply sto
    ps.
If I start the play with track 0, then it will continue to track 02, track 03, ...
I have gone through all the remove old OS and load the new OS. Doesn't help.
Please tell me what your finding is. I wonder it is a software bug or something wrong with my hardware.
    Thank you!

My is a Zen Xtra 40GB, SN MPF0500449002549G, bought 2/5/2004. Firmware: .20.08. I finally made someone at tech support do to same test. He conceded that he got the same. But he said that was a feature, not a bug. I don't pretend to understand what he is talking about. Here is the reply from the tech support. I hope you guys may have a better understanding and give me some enlightenment. He seemed to suggest me to select a playlist and just choose "playnow". But that'll start the playlist from track 0, which I don't want to. copy of email: ------------------------------------------------------------ Following your steps, I did indeed get the same response. However, thisis appropriate. When you choose the Play Now in step 4, You are replacing the Selected Music list with this one track. No other tracks are queued so when you hit next, nothing occurs as there is no track to move to. If you are expecting or wanting it to move to the next track in the playlist, then you need to actually load the entire playlist by choosing "Play Now or Add to Play" as opposed to opening the playlist in step 2. By doing this, you are loading the entire playlist into the play queue as opposed to just the one song. > . set the play mode at normal > 2. open a playlist > 3. move the cursor down to any audio track other > than > #, say #4. > 4. select "play now". > 5a. push the "next track" button ( >>|), see if the > player plays the next track as it should. > 5b. wait until the current is finish and see if the > next track starts automatically by itself. • Zen Xtra 40 fro

My Zen Xtra 40gb freezes on the EAX screen. No recovery features work and it will not connect to my PC at any time. I have seen other people on here with the same problem. I was wondering if anyone sent theirs in to Creative to be repaired - how much it cost to be fixed or replaced. Mine is 3wks out of warranty and I am trying to decide if I should bother sending it in or just get something else.

Anecdotally it won't be that cheap, it could be as much as US$00 for what is effecti'vely a board replacement (although Creative are likely just to give you a new player). The only way to know for sure is to contact Creative.
