Zen Xtra Library Rebuild Prob

When ever my Zen Xtra is connected to a power source, regardless of whether or not I've turned it on, it goes into the Rebuilding Library screen. I've attempted to put the player into the Rescue mode and it doesn't do so, I hold down Reset and Play for quite some time and nothing happens except that the screen goes blank as soon as I hit Reset. This is greatly irritating. Also, it seems that whenever I upload a significant portion of music onto the player a day or two later it will have serious difficulty of some kind. If anyone has dealt with the same problem or has a solution please help.

You enter rescue mode by keeping play held down then pressing reset just once, continue to keep play held down. If it won't enter rescue mode then the player is faulty and you need to contact Creative Support, links for which are in the FAQ post.

  • Why is Zen Xtra always Rebuilding Music Library??

Help! It seems every other time I turn my Zen Xtra on, it goes through a "Rebuilding Music Library" sequency. Anyone else have this problem or know what might be the cause? Thanks.

My 60gb keeps doing it - I belei've it started happening around the time I bought a laptop and instaleld the latest creative drivers donwloads on it - could this be the case? I have heard rumours on other forums about firmware faults similar to this. Creative, can YOU please respond.....

  • Zen Xtra always rebuilding libr

I have a funny feeling it may be the first sign of a hard dri've failure. My Zen Xtra 60 gig is more often these days when turned on rebuilding its library. Upon the rebuild, I find that the unit doesn't have the couple of gig worth of tracks I put on it just recently. Each time it has done a rebuild, the tracks disappear, I put them back on, then they go again. The unit also shows albums and tracks that I deleted off the unit quite some time ago. Would a firmware update assist at all? Or can the unit be formatted?Trev.

  • Zen XTRA Reload OS Prob

I reloaded the os no knowing what it does, and now my computer won't detect the mp3 player. i also tried downloading firmware, but when it goes to install, it doesnt detect the mp3 player either. can anyone help me please?

I have the same problem; I just purchased a new laptop, installed Zen XTRA software in the computer and did not recognized the player. I also upgraded the drivers and no luck. I suspect one of the problems may be the fact that my new laptop has Creative 5 media source alreday loaded. I upgraded the drivers in my desktop with no problems. I am ready to unistall everything because it just won't recognize it. Has anyone received an answer from the technical people at creative?

  • Zen Xtra Backlighting Brightness Prob

The backlighting on my new Zen Xtra seems to be woefully dark. I have changed the contrast again and again, but it does nothing to brighten up the screen. It does adjust the contrast between the background and the text, but the lighting itself is very dim. I have gone page by page in the cd manual and there is nothing that addresses backlighting brightness.
Is there something I am missing? Or is the screen very dark for everyone?

Well, it's not as bright as an iPod's screen, for example.
I searched around for some pics about what it should look like (since I don't have access to a digital cam to photograph mine)

  • Zen Xtra weird skipping prob

On my girlfriend's Zen Xtra 40gb, we have a really odd skipping problem. At seemingly random intervals, the player seems to insert split second sections of other songs into whatever's playing. It's really rather disconcerting. I've tried formatting and updating the firmware, but it's made no difference. Any ideas?

I also have this player and "sometimes" mine has the same problem.
The way i fix this is take out the "skipping" tracks out of "selected music" then put them back in and that will sort the problem. Well it does for me.
thats the only thing i know what to do.
    Hope that hel

    ps.
When I connect the power cable to the player the hiss also appears to be gone.
The 'hiss' is infact some creaking, very strange sound.
Can somebody tell me how to get rid of this problem? It's quite unpleaseant, especially when you're listening to e.g. a piano sonata.
    Thank you and kind regards

    Hi Danny!
That's the Background Hiss Noise which you can hear, when the Battery isn't fully charged and the Backlight Display is off. If the Backlight Display is on or you hear with the Power Adaptor or a fully charged Battery the Background Hiss isn't audible.

Try to RMA your Unit at Creative or the Store in which you bought it. I'll send mine back tomorrow and hope that the new one will be ok.

  • Zen xtra rebuilding libra

I have a 30 gig zen xtra. I got it in 04 and have had no issues with it. The past week it has been doing this "rebuilding library" after a cold boot (by cold boot I mean it has not been turned on for a day or two and shows the creative labs copyright screen.)After it rebuilds the library it works fine, but I am wondering if it is a sign of something bigger?I have not updated the firmware ever since I have had it the version is .0.0. Has anyone else had this issue? and what became of it'sIf i need to update the firmware which version is recommended?thxMessage Edited by merlin43 on 04-0-20072:53 AM

I recommend any version but the latest.
For the Xtra, avoid it like the plague. I've had nothing but problems... The same problems with two computers and two different Xtras.

  • My Zen Xtra's "re-building library" cost me half of my songs. Please help me o

I hooked up my Nomad JukeBox Zen Xtra (30GB) to my computer to put music on it when I see on the computer screen a little window saying the player isn't connected. I look at my player and it says low battery. So while hooked up to the computer via USB, I plug my player in to charge it, and all of a sudden the screen says "re-building library" and now every song I've put on my player over the last year is gone. Please help me out. Is there any way I could retrieve my lost music? I'm freaking out.

well you can try running the recovery mode...there is a cleanup mode in there that might help.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra connection prob

I already tried searcing the forums, And I didn't come across anything like this, And anything I came across that was similar I did as was suggested and it didn't help. anyways, onto the problem...:
I'm using Windows XP by the way.
I just got a new Zen Xtra a few days ago because I had to return my first one because the harddri've crashed, so I took this one home, loaded my music onto it and it was fine. Today I went to load more music onto it and my computer started lagging really badly, I use Realplayer to put my music onto the player and when I clicked into it, It would freeze as it was starting and I'd have to kill the program.
Then I tried going into My Computer to go into the Nomad explorer, Except my computer took about 5 minutes to find itself, And then it only found 'Desktop' and 'My Computer' which, 'My Computer' had nothing in it. So I went into desktop and that fixed the problem with the harddri'ves showing up, Except once I get into Nomad Explorer it says my player isn't connected.
I (physically) disconnected and reconnected my player while in Nomad Exploer but it's still a no-go.
I cleaned up the disk on my player and rebooted it, I used a different cable and tried all my USB ports. What do you suggest I do?
I really need some help and if it doesn't get fixed I'm not getting another replacement, I'll have to get a different brand.Message Edited by spring90 on 08-07-2006 04:43 PM

Ok... I think I figured it out. I finally got into the recovery mode. I let the battery sit out of the mp3 player for a while, hoping that there is a capacitor that would run out of power. I put the battery back in and got into recovery mode. I ran disk clean up. Nothing changed. I had the same problem I first started off with. So I took the battery out again for an hour. Came back, and got back into recovery mode. I reinstalled the OS. Everything seems to be working fine.
I hope that anyone having a similar problem with this mp3 player can keep this in the back of their mind if they cannot get into recovery mode due to a boot up and shut down problem.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60gp prob

Well, to start off with, I loved my mp3 player. So far, I ran into problems that I could not fix. I downloaded all of the updates that were needed. My mp3 player, a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60gb, suddenly would not work the same way. When the power adapter of battery are inserted, the player starts up. When they are pulled the player shuts down. One of the problems is when the player is on, it doesn't want to leave the main screen that says, "EAX". The hard dri've is not spinning, and no data is being accessed. I found on this website a page that tells users how to reset their mp3 player. For my mp3 player, it must be turned off for me to do a hard disk check, re-installation of operating system, or a format of the hard dri've...which is another problem, because I cannot turn it off. As I stated previously, the player is either on or off depending on if the battery is in or not. I am totally puzzeled. I cannot connect the player to the computer because of this problem. So either I have a new 60gb laptop hard dri've, or I figure out a way to get this to work. I haven't been able to find any threads like this or any users experiencing these problems.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Zen Xtra Prob

I'm having a problem with my 30GB Nomad Zen Xtra. When I start it up, it goes in to Rescue Mode v.3 - Boot v.2, HW v0.0.
I tried 'Clean Up' and nothing happened. I tried Reload OS and it says 'Harddisk Problem'. Is there any way to fix this problem without reformatting? I have stuff that I don't want to lose.

A slight rattle, and feeling something is loose, is normal with a hard disk.
You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net at your OWN RISK. If you don't want to try this or are under warranty then contact Creative Support.
If you aren't under warranty you can contact Creative Support to see if they will repair it. If you want to try repairing it yourself, taking the risk the hard disk is at fault, then you can follow Rudi Cheow's excellent guide. There's also a thread here at the Zen Nomadness.net forum on compatible dri'ves, and the last page of Rudi's guide also has information on this.

  • Major zen xtra prob

I just installed the newest firmware upgrade on my zen xtra and now every time it starts up, it statrts in rescue mode and i cant reload the os. I tried reflashing it with the firmware update again and all it says is "player not connected, please connect player." Even on the windows explorer, it shows up but it says i've only got 20MB of space on it even after i formatted it three times. I dont know what else to do, any help would be appreciated even it it means buying a new mp3 player which isnt really what i want to do. thanks.Message Edited by brammes on 05-29-2006 2:00 PM

Can you try entering Rescue Mode on the player? What happens when you try that?
If you can get in there, try the Reload OS option first, and then try loading the firmware again.

  • Jukebox Zen Xtra sound prob

Hi, I've had my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra for more than 2 years and have had little problems with it. However, now I cannot get any sound out of the left speaker of any type of speaker/earphones I plug into the audiojack. This is not a speaker/earphone problem, they work with any audio equipment. I can get sound out of both left and right speakers/phones if I plug the jack only 80% into the audiojack. But if I plug the jack all the way into the player, only the right speaker/phone works. Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem?

    Hello There,
I am experiencing the exact same problem - "Device not connected, even though I can see the device as a virtual dri've on my XP SP2 PC. I have contacted creative tech support and followed their instructions to the letter with no success.
Creative tech support instructed me to try the following:
