Zen Xtra will not for

I recently acquired a Zen Xtra and have been having problems changing music. I cannot copy any new music onto the dri've and when I erase the music that is there, it works well until I have to do a cold start at which time the player reverts to what was originally there. I have tried to format the dri've and after a successful format the player again reverts to its former music when I reboot the system. I have tried to replace the OS and the player hangs up my desktop machine during the process. Any suggestions?

The only people realistically that repair them are Creative, and I doubt very much they'll backup your tracks for you. They'll charge you a fixed rate for the repair, and return you a new or "refurbed" player.
If you are desperately desperate to get the tracks off the player you could buy a secondhand Zen and then try transplanting the hard disk across, assuming of course the problem is with the Zen's motherboard.

when ever i try to turn it on it brings up a menue that says . Clean up 2. Format all 3.Reload OS 4. Reboot and none of those options help if i click on # nuthing apears to happen when i click on #2 it says hard disk problem when i click on #3it says hard disk problem and when i click on #4 it resets and brings the menue back up what do i do? if u need some more information ask me

To all, if you hear the hard disk clicking repeatedly *before* Rescue Mode comes up chances are that the disk heads have jammed (if it wasn't dropped beforehand) so you can try the technique here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net at your OWN RISK.
If you're under warranty, don't want to try this, or you don't hear the hard disk clicking, then you need to either return the player where you bought it for a replacement or contact Creative Support.

  • 40GB Zen Xtra-WILL charge in vehicle, but not in house

Alright, I've searched theknowledge base, read posts for half a day, and still have not found this particular twist on this problem. So, I'm gonna post a NEW one! As I said in the subject line, I have a (quote from the upper left corner of my unit) NOMAD JUKEBOX Zen Xtra, a 40 Gb model, aproximately 2 years old, been returned for hard dri've replacement once. It will no longer charge with a wall charger. I have 2 chargers,(as they sent me another when I had my unit serviced) and neither will charge my Xtra. I've tried other brands of uni'versal chargers, still no luck. However, it WILL charge using a uni'versal charger plugged into the cigarette lighter in my vehicle! The only setting it will charge my Xtra on is at 4.5 volts, so I don't get a full charge. Why they didn't make ALL mp3 players charge with the USB cable is beyond me! Any suggestions, ideas, even sympathy will be appreciated!

I have had enough of creative!!!! They say that they wont help me,
"I apologize for the inconvenience, but according to the information
provided, this product is either EOSL (End of Service Life), or you are
beyond your complimentary e-mail support period."
Obviously it has been like two years!!!
What is the point in there being a support group if most of the really big problems occur after the warranty.
Next time ill go with ipod.
I am on the bandwagon for the class action lawsuit.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB not playing correctly anymore, help!!

Thanks. I keep getting directed to that knowledge base page, but it is not addressing my problem. My computer immediately tells me that the device has "malfunctioned" and the computer does not recognize it. I only have the usb cord that came with the zen, so I don't have another one to try. I love my zen and have staunchly defended it over the years vs. an i-pod. However, this is my 2nd onI've had my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB for over 5+ years. It has worked great, with minimal problems. I had a firmware update issue quite a while back. I'm not sure how to resolve this problem. Here is the situation:
Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB is fully charged and ready to use.
I tried loading a set playlist but it won't load. So I tried another, and it doesn't load. Not sure what to do, I go to the menu. This time I choose an artist/band. The music loads, but it doesn't play. I try again, then it starts to play. So I load a few other artists that way. It seems like I had a issue to work out later. Being away from my computer that was going to have to wait. After some time the Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB started to start N stop diferent songs. A few times it froze while playing a song. Then would unfreeze to play another, then suddenly start playing the previous one. After about 0-5 minutes of this I decided I had enough. So I planned to empty the playlist, and turn it off. It took me atleast three attempts to empty the playlist and turn it off.
Are these problems fixable What are they hardware or software
Would an OS or firmware update fix these problems Is my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB hard dri've going Can I get a replacement Or do I need to buy a new player
Please help me get my player working. I really like this model, I'd hate to have to replace it.
in 5 years. (The first one fried itself, but fortunately was still under warrantly.) Sadly, I, too, am considering moving on. I onlyreceived generic help fromthe Creative SupportTeam (who ultimately told me my zen is "unrepairable" when their one-size-fits-all solutions didn't work).Since there seems to be an overwhelming # of people experiencing similar problems, maybe the time is right to make the change, especially since an iPod classic 60 GB (7th Generation) is quite affordable these days.
    [/B]

Formatting will erase all the files on the player,Cleanup scans the disc & corrects file system errors, broken links (from when you delete things)ect. but does NOT repair bad sectors,Reboot then rebuilds the file system. I'd do the Cleanup>Reboot first to see if that solves the problem.here you will find how to open the player to see what dri've is in there. You can then search Ebay or Google the model number to find another one.

  • Help with Zen Xtra (30) *note: stickied topics did not he

I tried loading the .20.08 software upgrade onto my zen xtra and now it's acting rather strangely. When I turn it on now, it registers a button press because the backlight turns on when I press a button but the buttons don't actually do anything and the scroll wheel doesn't work either. I tried doing rescue mode by turning it off, having it plugged in, holding play, putting the paper clip in the reset hole, and then removing said paper clip, but it will not restart in rescue mode. I really have no idea what is going on, and I've had the player for nearly a year, so the short and useless warrantee is very over. Anyone?

I believe you are not holding it down long enough----- I think in the manual it says to hold it down until rescue mode comes up..... it took a long tome for mine to come up when i did it
If holding it longer doesnt help, thats all i got

  • New Zen Micro will NOT connect!

    Hello all,
I just bought a Creative Zen Micro player. I installed the software, charged the battery to full and guess what.....the Creative software does not recognize my player as being connected. And yes, I've checked device manager to see if it appears. It does, with the correct name and everything. So what is the problem? I've read other messages on this forum about this problem but it usually seems to be a problem after installing a new version of firmware. But this hasn't been done in my case because I haven't been able to get the stupid thing connected in the first place.
I'm confused as to what to do next. I've tried resetting it by removing the battery and then holding the power button but this hasn't worked either. I first was using a usb hub to connect but after reading that you should avoid this, I tried plugging directly into a usb port on my machine. That also didn't make a difference. I've unistalled the player from the device manager about 5 times and reinstalled it. I've tried reinstalling the creative software/drivers about 5 times and no resolution. I've followed instructions from the Creative website step by step as the proper way to install the software but nothing works. I'm extremely disappointed to bring home a product that does not work out of the box. Oh, and yes I have Windows XP Pro so the OS isn't the issue here. I guess I will just return this useless product unless someone else has another idea that I could try. I'm really at my wits end.
Thanks for listening to this short novel,
    Drawn-a-Blank

The software that will not recognize the player is the Zen Media Explorer and Media Source. I'm not sure what firmware I have and I can't check since I'm not at home. But, I can't install new firmware even if I wanted too since it won't connect. However, I have downloaded the lastest drivers but I don't think I've installed the lasted version of Zen Media Explorer, so I guess that is one other option.

  • Nomad Zen Xtra does not power

I have just recieved my Zen Xtra today. But when I power it on, per the manuals proper instruction, it does not power on. I have also tried to charge the battery with the mp3 player both on & off. When I had it on the "using AC outlet" icon would show. It does seem I need a new battery. But I fear something else, could the charging mechanism be dead? This player is a refurbished product by the way. It works on the AC outlet, I can transfer files to it, and I can successfully connect it to the USB port. the hard dri've sounds fine. It seems I need to buy a new battery right? Where else besides Creative.com can I buy one? Thanks.

    First, read/try the advice here
Failing that, I would suggest buying a replacement battery. Check froogle.com (that link is set to the best deals) for a good price.

  • Zen Stone will not play .WMAs

? Hi all- my Zen Stone recently stopped playing wma file- in fact, it will not play anything other than an mp3. When I try, I simply get the red-flashing error signal. I've tried resetting it, searching for updates, etc., but with no results. If this issue has been addressed elsewhere, I apologize, but I did several searches, and came up with dozens of posts concerning wma file sizes, quality, etc. but not this question in particular.
(I also tried the "wma vs. mp3" link in the FAQs, but it only led me to this error message: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: message_die() in /data/v-clients/nomad/db/db.php on line 88)
Any fix advice would be greatly appreciated- until this issue popped up, my Stone has been by far my favourite (and easiest to operate) player to date (well, at least since my old yellow Sony Sports Walkman!)? Cheers!

  • ZEN Microphoto will not sta

I have a Zen Microphoto that freezes at the Creative logo on start up.
I have tried recovery mode but it will not do anything e.g. reload firmware, format etc. Also it is not recognised by the PC allthough it does charge from the USB when battery is completely flat.
Anybody know how to fix this?
Or can anybody tell me how to get it repaired by Creative?
    Thanks

    I can help..
I've repaired about 5 Microphotos. When you can't boot beyond the initial Creative screen, it's the hard drive that's died. Don't quote me, but Creative quoted me something like $5 to replace the HD. Not really worth it IMHO. I've been buying the Microphotos on eBay for about $0 each, and there's a vendor on eBay that sells new 8 gig HDs for about $45 FOB Taiwan or something like that. Taking the Microphotos apart is a bit tricky, you can snap one of the connectors off the PC boards when you pull the unit apart. It happened to the first unit I opened, and happened once more when I pulled the 0th one apart or so.
If you want, email me at [email protected] I have a few parts and such including a new hard dri've left over from all of the ones I bought. Now that I have 7 working 8 gig units, I don't need any more.. I can either repair it for you or send you a hard dri've. Contact Creative though first in case the quoted price by me above is inaccurate.

  • Zen Inventory will not collect Dell Serial Numbers (service tags)

The 'Serial Number' query will not work on Dell Optiplex systems.
The 'asset tag' query will grab the service tag on older versions of the
Dell BIOS in GX1 and older systems (that did not have an asset tag
field). On newer machines (GX100's - GX260's), I've not been successful
in obtaining the Dell Service Tag at all. Dell says that their DMI is
industry compliant and can't understand why Zenworks will not work. Then
they want to sell me their product. Novell says that their product is DMI
compliant and cannot understand why Dell systems will not report the
serial number. I'm caught in the middle. :--(

    Hi,
It is stored in a different place in the BIOS, but this shouldn't be an
issue. Zen simply doesn't seem to be addressing the DMI subclasses
correctly - if it did so it'd have no difficulty at all in finding the
serial number regardless of where the BIOS stores it.
As I've already said twice on different threads, if you access DMI through
WMI using a bog-standard VB script, you can get the serial number every
    single time.
If you have VB, try this code:
Private Function StripNulls(OriginalStr As String) As String
' This removes the extra Nulls so String comparisons will work
    Do While (InStr(OriginalStr, Chr(0)) > 0)
    OriginalStr = Left(OriginalStr, InStr(OriginalStr, Chr(0)) - 1)
    Loop
    Do While (Right(OriginalStr, 1) = " ")
    OriginalStr = Left(OriginalStr, Len(OriginalStr) - 1)
    Loop
    StripNulls = OriginalStr
    End Function
    Set WMI = GetObject("WinMgmts:")
    Set objs = WMI.InstancesOf("Win32_ComputerSystemProduct")
    For Each obj In objs
    MyVendor = obj.Vendor
    MyModel = StripNulls(obj.Name)
    Next
    Set objs = WMI.InstancesOf("Win32_SystemEnclosure")
    For Each obj In objs
    MySerial = obj.SerialNumber
    Next
    MsgBox (MyVendor & " " & MyModel & " Serial: " & MySerial)
Shaun, if there is a patch for this I'd be interested. We've got an audit
coming up and it's CRITICAL we can address this requirement.

  • Zen Xtra Software not launch

hello - I have been searching the internet for over a month trying to find a solution to my Zen Xtra problem.
About a month ago, I launched the Creative media program to transfer files into my Xtra. The software just shut down. After repeatedly trying to get it to open, it comes back with a message. "Creative Mediasource has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Thats not very helpful. Ive uninstalled the original driver I got with the Zen - I reinstalled the software - and downloaded drivers from the Creative site. Nothing works. My player works fine - but I cant access the files to add/delete.
Is it all over for my Zen.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Vic B.

    TBeatles67,
Go to the website and download the following updates.
. Drivers - Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03 (.3 MB)
    2. MediaSource update - Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 (52.2 MB)
    3. Nomad Plugin - Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource (9.72 MB)
If you intend to update the firmware, just go for the version .xx.xx update that's available on the website. It shouldn't delete the files in the player but like any electronics device, anything can go wrong anytime so I would also suggest backing up your data/audio files in the player first just in case.

  • Zen Flashdisk- will not play music - "not licenced&qu

I have an SDHC card for my Zen but if I copy music to it it will not play as it states that the file has no licence. This is music I have ripped from Cds I own and which will play without problem from the Zen itself. What?is the point of buying a card if you cannot store music files on it's
    Frustrated and stressed!

What app did you use to rip the CDs? If it was windows media player check the setting to be sure that the protect files is UNCECKED.

  • My Zen V will not power on or cha

I have had my Zen V since August and have had many issues with it freezing. A few days ago it froze, so I reset it as usual. However, ever since I reset it it will not power on. I figured the battery was dead, so I hooked it up to the computer. You have to turn the player on in order for the computer to recognize it, so I went to turn it on while it was connected yet it remained off! Please help!

Same problem here with my Micro Photo. Worked good once I figured out the basics of using it then Wham! Wouldn't charge up. Took it back to the place I bought it and they stated that there is a hugh problem with the batteries that came with the Micro Photo's?it so I bought another battery and it worked like a charm till the new battery needed re-charging then the exact same problem. Took it back again and they stated that there is a hugh problem with the hard dri'ves for the Micro Photo (go figure) and kept it because there is a back log of problematic Micro Photo's and haven't heard from the store in a couple weeks. If I had to make a purchase decision all over again you can bet I would be using an I-pod this morning instead of waiting patiently for some one to get the Micro working.

  • Zen MicroPhoto will not STOP charg

Recently my MicroPhoto will not stop charging. I had it plugged in for a long time and it wasn't done charging yet and I thought for sure it had to be because it was charging for a few hours and the battery was only about 50% used. So I unplugged it and plugged it back in and the power chord icon appeared on the battery which means that it's fully charged when a few seconds earlier it said it was still charging. I hope someone can help me because I know over charging a battery is about the worst thing you can do to a battery. Please help. Thanks

    Thanks snoweagle
It worked! I either wasn't letting it charge enough or I wasn't letting the battery get low enough. I let it charge with the AC adapter, and when I went to check on it, it had stopped charging and turned off.
Thanks again I love my ZMP!
