ZenWorks Agent and Java 1.7

I am working to use ZenWorks to patch all of our SLES/RedHat servers and I am having issues on the very first client I am trying to set up. When I try to install the agent, using either the complete or network install .bin, I run into the following error....
Cmd: '/bin/sh /opt/novell/zenworks/stage/installJava.sh INSTALL_JRE'
Exiting with error code -1.
Exiting with error code 255.
I realize that this is because my server already has JDK7 installed on it. The servers that I need ZenWorks to patch are production servers which require an updated java (and by updated, I require Java 7 - not the most up to date Java 6). I cannot simply uninstall JDK7 to allow the Zen Agent Installer to install the old JRE without breaking production servers. I found TID 7010783, but it does not quite solve my problem.
Any help that can be offered is appreciated!

Ahilton,
look at the "cause" section of the TID "Prior to 11.3, the ZENworks xplat agent has problems with jre 1.7 due to new security features in the jre", is that a clue?

    Hi almerola,
If you have maintenance on your NOWS SBE, you should have a link in the NCC to ZCM 11. If you do not see ZCM 11 as one of the items listed, contact the NCC and they will make it available.
You may find your Zenworks questions are answered more quickly in one of the Zenworks forums:

  • About the Mobile Agent and JAVA.

Is it possible to design a simple mobile agent system by using RMI or by using the EJB, and so on?
Although there are some platform such Aglet and voyager. But I don't hope to do our project on them. Is the EJB a good choice for a Mobile Agent systems?
I just want design a little demo program based on MA. and it is used to operate the distributed database system, which may be in a LAN enviorment.
Are there any other ways to build such a mobile agent systems?

I want to build a LAN enviorment with 3 or 4 computers, and make the "mobile agent" have the ability to move from one computer to another one by itself. It should access the database in different computers and feedback the information to client which send the request.
If I hope to build up such an enviorment, what software would be the choices? For instance win2000, jdk14,tomcat, apache, oracle, and so on?

  • Apply add-on bundle without Zenworks agent installed?

    Hi all,
I've created an add-on image file from a bundle within ZCC, but I can't apply it when imaging a computer. It says it can't find any installed Zenworks agent, and that is true, since it is not part of the base image. Instead it gets installed when Windows boots up.
I found this post that says you can use another add-on image to create an empty directory structure on the computer before you apply the add-on image, thus fooling it to believe the agent is installed.
This doesn't seem to work here, though, maybe because we have 64-bit Windows 7. I changed the directory structure to reflect the C:\Program Files (x86)\ folder, but it doesn't seem to work.
Is there any workaround for this, preferrably without having to install the agent within the base image?
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Pr

Oh well... this was quite silly. I found the answer myself, and it seems that if you only create an add-on image with empty folders, it will not be created on the workstation (although there was no message to indicate that). But when I put a dummy text file into the \Program Files (x86)\Novell\ZENworks\work folder, the structure was created and I was able to push out the add-on image file afterwards without the agent installed.

  • Zenwork Agent Taking up to 1GB mem. and 30-40% procossor

    Hello everyone,
So I have had some problems with what seems to be random computers in our district running incredibly slow. We have found out that the Zen Agent (version 11.3.1.39328) is taking up the remaining RAM in the PC, 40 percent of the processor, and max out the writing of the HD.
We are running our zen server on Windows 2008 R2 and the 11.3.1 version as well.
Sometimes a zac unr -f followed by rereg will fix the problem has fixed the problem (clearing the cache nor a retrust work). Other time I have to uninstall the zen agent and reinstall it, that has been a 100% fix.
So my question is if anyone else is experiencing this problem and if so what has been your fix?

I will take a better look in ProcMon on some machines with the issue. I was
seeing the state files being hit a lot on a machine before I just did a
remove/reinstall of the client on and that one seems to be back to normal so
far. I also removed any old patch bundles(400+) in ZCM I had created over
    the last year or so.
All our systems are 4GB+ and 3/4Gen i5 or i7 processors so I think we are
    good there.

I would not worry about any counts in the 100s for any given policy
and/or bundle in regard to actions or pieces of content.
Issues arise if they get into the 1000s.
(Make sure you ran both the Individual Action and the Pieces Content
Query. They cover 2 different but similar issues.)
I'd recommend ProcMon to see exactly what is doing the reading/writing.
It may give an idea on what part of ZCM may be doing this.
It is important to know which process is using the ram, cpu and writing.
(Oh.....how much RAM is on the PC and is ZCM using.)
Procmon can also be useful to see if any AV Packages are scanning the
ZCM files. I've seen cases where a customer thinks they have setup the
proper exclusions, but Procmon has revealed the exclusions were not
working as expected and required tweaking.
Also, how much ram and what type of PCs?
A PIV w/512mb (I could see ZCM overloading this at times)
vs a Core5 w/2GB of RAM (should not be an issue.)

  • Sending Data from R/3 to Java and Java to SAP

    Dear All,
I am working on a scenario in which I have to send data from sap system to Non-SAP system (Java System).
Now one way is that I made a RFC in my SAP system and Java can call it using JCO adapter. But In this case I am not able to understand how to go another way, means how to capture data or messages from Java.
Secondly I have searched and found that IDOC can help me lot in this process ,I am new to IDOCS but through R & D , I have made the IDOC and done the following steps:-
    1. Segment Creation (WE31)
    2. IDOC Types          (WE30)
    3. Message Type     (WE81)
    4. Linking Message type and IDOC type (WE82)
    5. Create Distribution Model (BD64)
Now I am struck on 5th step , I am not able to distribute model when I distribute it I get the following Error

I am not able to understand that my receiver system is NON SAP system so do I have to create logical system for it , and I have IDES system as sender system with only one client 800, what are all the configuration I have to do on SAP side.
I am also not able to understand where I will write my code to fetch data based on the input provided by NON SAP system as I will have to design IDOC for both Inbound and Outbound processes.
Kindly help me out, thanks in advance

    Hi Kanagaraja L,
    Thanks for you response.
No I haven't created Created RFC Destination , this RFC destination will be of my JAVA system ???.
I have tried creating the partner logical system in WE20 and dine the following steps:
    1. Partner No.   IDES800     Ides 800 System - Sender System
        Partn.Type    LS          Logical system
    2. The tab Post processing : permitted agent is filled with default parameters.
    3. Then in the outbound parameter table control I have pressed the add record button and got a new screen in

Saved it with the above data.
Now I am not able to understand how to do the things you have mentioned in 3rd step in your reply.
What are all the things I have to do kindly tell , as I am very new to Idocs so don't have much knowledge.

  • Access Manager Policy Agent and Oracle AS

    Hi,
my system uses Oracle Application Server. The security dept use Sun Access Manager. I need to integrate the security of the Oracle system with the policy agent. Where this gets a little confusing is that one of my developers tells me that this is difficult to implement and that Sun arent planning on supporting the Oracle AS in future.
What I would like is some clarification from the horses mouth so to speak. In particular is it possible to integrate the policy agent and Oracle AS, and are Sun committed to supporting and developing for this.
    Thanks,
    Andy.

"Where this gets a little confusing is that one of my developers tells me that this is difficult to implement"
"it is NOT an implementation but an integration ! difficult ? why ?"
"and that Sun arent planning on supporting the Oracle AS in future."
There is a PA 2.2 for Oracle 10g ! It is the latest version(2.2 I mean). I don't see any reasons why Sun should not continue. But it is ONLY my point of view...
"What I would like is some clarification from the horses mouth so to speak. In particular is it possible to integrate the policy agent and Oracle AS, and are Sun committed to supporting and developing for this."
Of course it is possible because you can find the PA that will integrate your Oracle AS with a Sun AM.
    1) Please read the documentation.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1322.1
Download the one for Oracle and read also the user guide.
PA are very easy to integrate if you know what you do... Espec. und. the AM auth and sso... If you can be helped by a AM guy from your comp. it is welcome... It is a j2ee agent and of course the PA will make what is necessary to redirect you to AM at login time and later to auth. your request...2)
    2) Download the soft and do the job :-)
    Product Downloads
Sun Java System Access Manager Policy Agent 2.2 for Oracle Application Server 10g
    http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=455d52ed
I did plenty of int. with Sun/Bea/Tomcat AS(don't forget there are also webserver agents like Apache PA) with AM and it is not a big deal. Not Oracle, but it is an AS and I don't see why it should be difficult...
    Hope this helps a bit.

  • Zen Agent and "Workstation Only"?

We're using the Zen 6.5sp2 agent and NO CLIENT in our remote locations.
Users are consistently choosing to login to the local workstation without
authenticating to eDir, which causes obvious difficulties in
package/policy distribution. I would like to do one of two things:
    1. Set the Agent to default to Workstation Only = 0 so that the Agent
doesn't remember the last setting -OR-
    2. Remove the "Workstation Only" checkbox from the login (I found this reg
key) and then REDUCE the network timeout.
    Any suggestions?

I don't have the collection of settings on me but I can get them.
What I did in clientless environments is to enable "PassiveMode" on the
clients so that the MS GUI was shown and not the NWGina.
With the MS Gina, users would just automatically login to E-Dir in the
    background through the middle-tier.
There would never even be an option for them to not log into E-dir.
At http://www.zenworks.com there is a Group Policy maintained by Shaun
Pond for the Novell Client that I suspect would also include the
required settings for ZEN as well but I am not sure.
I would check it out. I dont have the link but it should not be hard.
I presume a GP would be an easy way to keep the settings you want.

  • NAC Agent/ActiveX/Java applet

    Hi,
For L3 OOB deployment , does any one know how the NAC agent/ActiveX/Java applet refresh the IP address for the client??
i know that In the Login Page configuration, two options need to be checked to use the ActiveX/Applet webclient to
    refresh the client’s IP address:
    - Use web client to detect client MAC address and Operating System
    - Use web client to release and renew IP address when necessary (OOB) .
But what i need to know how the agent/ActiveX/Java applet refresh the IP address for the client???
are these programs ( agent/ActiveX/Java applet ) triggers the client machine to do that???
    regards
    MAM

    MAM,
You're right. The applets do indeed trigger a dhcp refresh on the machines. This is to avoid bouncing the port which can be problematic when you have IP phones.
More info on this in the docs here: http://tinyurl.com/yhnskdf

  • FF 15 and Java 7 plugin on Win 8 not working

Just did a fresh install of Win8 on a totally new machine. Installed latest FF (15.0.1) and Java 7. Everytime I go to a page requiring Java it says I need the plugin. I've searched all over the web and can't find an answer although others have had the same problem and appeared to have worked around it.
    Reinstalled FF
    Reinstalled Java
Tried running program in Win 7 compatibility mode
If I go to Control Panel -> Programs -> Java -> Advanced and look at Default Java for Browser, it's set for IE, but the box for FF is unchecked. I check it, hit apply or OK (tried both) and after the window closes, I go back in and FF box is unchecked again.
about:plugins shows Java installed. At wits end here....
I'm not posting from my Win 8 box so installed plugins is hand typed.

I do have Java 7 U7. I originally had both 32 and 64 bit installed, now I've got it down to 32 bit only. Still no joy. I go to a website and it tells me to install the plugin, I try to and the installer says it's already there. Now there is a difference though, the Java console shows Mozilla Family checked but it no longer shows as being installed in the plug ins on the troubleshooting info page.

  • ZENworks Agent Service stops after deploying 10.3.3 agent.

    Hi,
Yesterday i patched our three ZCM-servers (Sles 11) with 10.3.3. I then deployed the 10.3.3 agent to some computers in the IT-department. ZCC shows that the deployment were successful. The problem is that you can not log on to the ZONE from many of these computers. The Novell ZENworks Agent Service stops. I get the following in the Application Windows Log on a Windows 7 64-bit client:
Faulting application name: ZenworksWindowsService.exe, version: 10.3.3.3582, time stamp: 0x4d654308

Can anyone help me with this problem?

I would try removing all versions of .NET and then reinstalling the
latest 3.5 SP1 version to see if that helps, since the Agent relies on .NET
If that does not help, I would recommend getting an SR created so the
    dump could be analyzed.

  • ZENworks agent update from workstation.

    Hi there,
Is there a way to get workstations to update themselves automatically with the latest version of the ZENworks agent. (ZCM 11.2.3.a is what we have)
We have a standard image which has a older version of the ZCM agent on it. Images are pulled down and the workstations are automatically built.
Various bundles are then installed automatically on the workstations. When we update the image with other changes etc, we will add the new agent to it.
But until we do that, instead of me having to manually check for all new machines built in the last week / month and then assign the agent update to them,
is there a process, script, bundle of something that can run on the workstation to update the agent itself to the latest version we have.
We are using ZCM 11.2.3a and we need to do this without having to manually visit 200-400 machines.
    Thanks
    Mark

While I (And Microsoft) recommends configuring your Router/Switches to
pass WOL packets from your trusted WOL Servers (Primaries in this case),
it is also possible to use WOL Proxies to allow this to happen across
    your subnets.
There are also some Windows settings that may be necessary to allow WOL
to work from a deep sleep state. I would recommend researching those as
    well.
If you are concerned about deploying updates when users are not using
the devices, WOL is something with which I recommend you become more
    comfortable using.

  • Zenworks Agent 10.3.3 - Windows 7 32 -Strange behavior

    Hi,
    Here's my problem :
I have a SYSPREP fully functionnal that install the Novell Client IR9a on a Windows 7 SP1 32Bits and at the end i have a VBS File that download the latest version of Zenworks Agent installer to the local harddrive. After it installs it... Then a strange behavior happen after the required reboot by the installer.
You can't ping any DNS names until until you have rebooted your machine 3 times.
-> You can ping ip addresses but not their names.
I tried to do a flush dns realse or renew and same behavior... can't ping any DNS names.
This problem is not there if i do not install the Adaptive agent and leave the Novell Client Alone...
The Windows 7 was originally a home premium that was upgraded to a oem pro license if that can ring any bell.
    Thank you.

There was an issue a LONG time ago that I have not heard reported
    since..........

  • Zenworks Agent interferes with GroupWise & Messenger

We have been running GW 8 and IM 2.0.4 without issue for several months on XP machines along with Zenworks 7. We recently upgraded to Zenworks 10.2 and since then we have had numerous users complain that GroupWise and/or Messenger hangs on them. We find in these cases that there are a number of instances of GroupWise in the task manager and upon killing the processes, Messenger will begin working again and GroupWise can be started again without a problem. However, over time the same thing will occur again. The surefire thing we have found to prevent it from happening is to remove the Zenworks agent from the machine.
Anybody else having issues with the Zenworks 10.2 agent interfering with GroupWise and Messenger?

We have no issues with GW on workstations running ZCM10.2. We don't use messenger so maybe the messenger is causing this issue.

  • ZENworks Agent + Novell client on domain joined pc

    Hi,
We are in progress of migrate a MS domain to E-directory domain.
There are a new bunch of new pc's which will have our base image (with Novell Client SP3 IR9 & ZENworks 11.3.1) installed which are in a workgroup.
There existing pc's will be manually updated with Novell Client en ZENworks client.
My tought's were to unjoin the pc's in the domain and then install Novell Client en ZENworks client.
    What are your toughts?
    Thanks in advance,

First comment. I have to say that in all my years on here this is the first
time I have seen ANYONE moving back to eDirectory as opposed to being forced
off their beloved eDirectory. Welcome back! LOL.
None of my 8500 systems are in a domain although we do have one for various
services including Exchange. We use IDM to keep users and passwords synced.
Presuming the users account already exists and its not a volatile user you
should be fine. I am presuming in ZCM you are setting up a DLU policy that
will control and manage the local user. As long as the local user exists the
DLU won't try to create a new one and you won't get prompted by ZCM"
box.with a "whats your credentials". Personally we have had no luck pre
installing the agent and then sealing the image. There are a lot of
documented steps you have to go through to clean it up. If you don't you are
going to have all kinds of issues in ZCM. We just found it easier to run it
after the fact. Tech is going to be their anyway setting it up so why not
let them finish it is where we went. So in conclusion install your client,
install the agent. Reboot. Login local first time. your WS won't have the
DLU policy yet and you will need it for the normal login process to work
smoothly. Do a ZAC CC ref if you want the policy quickly. After that user
logs into Novell, credentials pass through, ZCM agent see local user exists
and password is the same and voil*. User has their desktop. good luck.
