ZenWorks Agent and Windows7 - No dynamic User

Hello we have Open Workgroup Suite 2.5 Small Business Edition. With the last automatic update.
Now we have new PC's with Windows7 SP1.
Problem: Windows 7 SP1 does not Register the PC in Zenworks. ZENworks- Server properties are empty.
It works fine with Windows XP.
OWS is included Zenworks Agent Version 10.2.0.25097 (The System does not upgrade to other version).
Any Idea for a solution?

Hi almerola,
If you have maintenance on your NOWS SBE, you should have a link in the NCC to ZCM 11. If you do not see ZCM 11 as one of the items listed, contact the NCC and they will make it available.
You may find your Zenworks questions are answered more quickly in one of the Zenworks forums:

  • ZenWorks Agent and Java 1.7

I am working to use ZenWorks to patch all of our SLES/RedHat servers and I am having issues on the very first client I am trying to set up. When I try to install the agent, using either the complete or network install .bin, I run into the following error....
    Cmd: '/bin/sh /opt/novell/zenworks/stage/installJava.sh INSTALL_JRE'
    Exiting with error code -1.
    Exiting with error code 255.
I realize that this is because my server already has JDK7 installed on it. The servers that I need ZenWorks to patch are production servers which require an updated java (and by updated, I require Java 7 - not the most up to date Java 6). I cannot simply uninstall JDK7 to allow the Zen Agent Installer to install the old JRE without breaking production servers. I found TID 7010783, but it does not quite solve my problem.
Any help that can be offered is appreciated!

    Ahilton,
look at the "cause" section of the TID "Prior to 11.3, the ZENworks xplat agent has problems with jre 1.7 due to new security features in the jre", is that a clue?

  • Apply add-on bundle without Zenworks agent installed?

    Hi all,
I've created an add-on image file from a bundle within ZCC, but I can't apply it when imaging a computer. It says it can't find any installed Zenworks agent, and that is true, since it is not part of the base image. Instead it gets installed when Windows boots up.
I found this post that says you can use another add-on image to create an empty directory structure on the computer before you apply the add-on image, thus fooling it to believe the agent is installed.
This doesn't seem to work here, though, maybe because we have 64-bit Windows 7. I changed the directory structure to reflect the C:\Program Files (x86)\ folder, but it doesn't seem to work.
Is there any workaround for this, preferrably without having to install the agent within the base image?
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Pr

Oh well... this was quite silly. I found the answer myself, and it seems that if you only create an add-on image with empty folders, it will not be created on the workstation (although there was no message to indicate that). But when I put a dummy text file into the \Program Files (x86)\Novell\ZENworks\work folder, the structure was created and I was able to push out the add-on image file afterwards without the agent installed.

  • Zenworks 7 Agent Upgrade Breaks Windows XP User Profiles

We have been having an intermittent problem since upgrading from the
Zenworks 4 agent to Zenworks 7 on our XP desktops. Users have been
reporting that their profiles are not loading on login and the error
    message appears:
"Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this
error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If
this problem persists, contact your network administrator."
Examination of the event log yields the following errors in this order:
    Event ID 1508:
Windows was unable to load the registry. This is often caused by
insufficient memory or insufficient security rights.
    Event ID 1502:
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this
error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If
this problem persists, contact your network administrator.
    Event ID 1515:
Windows has backed up this user's profile. Windows will automatically try
to use the backed up profile the next time this user logs on.
    Event ID: 1511:
Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a
temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you
    log off.
    Event ID 1517:
Windows saved user <user name> registry while an application or service
was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the
user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it
is no longer in use. This is often caused by services running as a user
account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService
    or NetworkService account.
Our systems are running Windows XP SP2 with the latest patches and Novell
Client 4.90 SP2. We did not encounter this problem when we were using
the Zenworks 4 agent. The only recent change we have made to the
environment is the upgrade to Zenworks 7. Therefore it appears that in
our case, the Zenworks 7 agent is the cause. The issue has not occurred
on every PC yet, however every day it seems that we get more and more
calls regarding this issue. Some users report that a reboot will fix the
problem while other users have seen a more persistent occurrence. For
the time being, we are installing UPHClean on the affected machines per
    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;837115 However,
we need more testing to see if this will actually resolve the problem.
Furthermore, our objective is to determine why this issue has presented
itself after the Zenworks upgrade and what we can do from the Novell
perspective to fix it. Is there a possibility that Zenworks 7 agent is
not allowing these profiles to open? Could the upgrade to Zenworks 7
negatively impacted user profiles on these systems?
We performed the upgrade on a number of test systems without issue. We
pushed the Zenworks 7 MSI via a NAL object. The MSI essentially removed
Zenworks 4 and installed version 7.
Any help with this issue is appreciated.
    Thanks.

There is a good chance that UPHClean will resolve your issue.
The main issue is that most likely the profiles are not fully unloading
correctly and causing the reload to not work correctly.
The cause for the profiles sticking open are many and sort of why MS has
    created the tool.
If the tool does not help, we can try and troubleshoot more.

  • Web Agent and Clip Board set up for multi user environment

    Hi
    Our environment is
    Database: 0racle8.1.5 on Sun Solaris
Currently we are not using OAS but a portal server and Apache
Intermedia Web Agent and Clip Board are working fine.
    The questions are
    1. if there are multiple users (content managers) who would be adding /modifying content in the database, the how can I go about with Clip board.
2.The requirement is these people should be able to search documents on the basis of keywords. So how do we integrate Intermedia query capabilities on this clip board interface.
    3. For production level how do we go about implementing.
Should we continue to have the ctxsys user and use that itself.
    Thank you for any solutions

  • Xcontrols and dynamic User Events

    Hi all,
I'm trying to build a XControl with an Event Structure that accepts User Events generated by a separate parallel loop on the block diagram.
A monitoring loop with its own Event Strucure on the block diagram seems to handle the User Events generated by my producer loop but the XControl seems to ignore the User Events.
Example LabView 8.5.1 project is attached
    Any ideas?

    Hi Anne,
    > Dynamic user event is registered to the event structure, and many dynamic user events come in very fast, about every 30 ms.
The 30ms rate is not unreasonably fast as long as the processing for the event(s) can be completed in less than 30ms.
What tasks are you doing in the User Event?
For tasks that may take time to complete (like logging) you could queue up the data and send it to a consumer loop.
    > It freezes up the user interface, no response to mouse and keyboard, even after all user events finish execution.
My *guess* here is that you got stuck in an event that never completed.

    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3195492#3195492
Access switches are configured properly, the configuration ran without any problems with the previous installation.
No changes done at the configuration, using the default trap listener port etc.
In the macuhic.log file I get entries like in the attached txt.
When I try to run a full Campus Manager Data Collection I get the following errormessage:
Failed to start acquisition: Construction of XML data required for UT is in progress. Please try after some time
Also any suggestions? Am I right, too?

By default IP SLA collectors installed by IPM do not appear in the running configuration.  If you want to install the collectors into the running configuration, then set the "Copy IPSLA Configuration to running-config" property under IPM > Admin > Application Settings, then delete and recreate the collector.
Your Campus problem could be CSCtd49439 (a patch is available by contacting TAC).  However, you should start a new thread for your Campus problem.

  • Change iPhone Exchange Sync 'User Agent' and 'Type'

Hi. Curious to understand how I might go about changing the 'USER AGENT' and 'TYPE' fields that the iPhone uses to identify itself to an exchange server.
Currently my iPhone identities itself to an Exchange server as 'Apple-iPhone/xxx.xxx' and 'iPhone'.
Looking to change these two fields to something different. Is this possible? Can anyone point me towards some productive reading? Not afraid to get my hands dirty in API/SDK.

  • User agent and Referer

    Hi all!
I'm using some PHP-Scripts via HTTPService in my
    AIR-Application.
At the moment the AIR-App sends - like a browser -
information about user agent and referer, like:
    "app:/MyApp.swf" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; de-DE)
    AppleWebKit/523+ (KHTML, like Gecko) AdobeAIR/1.1"
I'm planning to use these values in my PHP-Script to restrict
the access to some scripts only to calls from AIR.
How reliable are these information? Is it possible to
deactivate or change these values on the client side?
For example, in some browser you can deactivate the option to
send a referer - is this possible in Air too?
Sure, the other way round isn't very safe: a browser can
imitate the referer and user agent and my script then thinks the
client is an Air app. But it's a bit more security.
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards!

I have a problem in that when I embed a certain swf on an Air
html page, the http-referer that is sent by the Air runtime (or the
underlying WebKit impl?) when requesting that swf is of the form
app://mypage.html. The particular site serving the object/swf does
not seem to like that referer pattern and sends me back an error
swf rather than the object I requested.
I've been able to verify this by:
    1) replaying the offending request in Firefox with the
referer header as it would be sent from Air, which results in the
same failed request (i.e. getting error.swf)
    2) stripping the referer header altogether and replaying in
Firefox in which case the intended swf is served to me
The site serving the request doesn't seem to be picky about
what sites are linking to it based on referer (else a no referer
header request would be rejected), it just doesn't seem to like the
Air referer header that is being sent.
My question: Can I suppress/modify the referer header in the
Air runtime? Or at least modify it? This is not an API constructed
URL request but a resource request from an HTML object/embed, so I
can't touch the headers explicitly while formulating the request.
I'm assuming it would be a setting somewhere or a static var that
could be set in the AIR API/runtime. If not, could this mod be
    requested?

  • Zenwork Agent Taking up to 1GB mem. and 30-40% procossor

    Hello everyone,
So I have had some problems with what seems to be random computers in our district running incredibly slow. We have found out that the Zen Agent (version 11.3.1.39328) is taking up the remaining RAM in the PC, 40 percent of the processor, and max out the writing of the HD.
We are running our zen server on Windows 2008 R2 and the 11.3.1 version as well.
Sometimes a zac unr -f followed by rereg will fix the problem has fixed the problem (clearing the cache nor a retrust work). Other time I have to uninstall the zen agent and reinstall it, that has been a 100% fix.
So my question is if anyone else is experiencing this problem and if so what has been your fix?

I will take a better look in ProcMon on some machines with the issue. I was
seeing the state files being hit a lot on a machine before I just did a
remove/reinstall of the client on and that one seems to be back to normal so
far. I also removed any old patch bundles(400+) in ZCM I had created over
    the last year or so.
All our systems are 4GB+ and 3/4Gen i5 or i7 processors so I think we are
    good there.

I would not worry about any counts in the 100s for any given policy
and/or bundle in regard to actions or pieces of content.
Issues arise if they get into the 1000s.
(Make sure you ran both the Individual Action and the Pieces Content
Query. They cover 2 different but similar issues.)
I'd recommend ProcMon to see exactly what is doing the reading/writing.
It may give an idea on what part of ZCM may be doing this.
It is important to know which process is using the ram, cpu and writing.
(Oh.....how much RAM is on the PC and is ZCM using.)
Procmon can also be useful to see if any AV Packages are scanning the
ZCM files. I've seen cases where a customer thinks they have setup the
proper exclusions, but Procmon has revealed the exclusions were not
working as expected and required tweaking.
Also, how much ram and what type of PCs?
A PIV w/512mb (I could see ZCM overloading this at times)
vs a Core5 w/2GB of RAM (should not be an issue.)

  • Dynamic User

    Hi,
I'm trying configure a workstation without Client32. I can map drive
letters using Net Use with CIFS as a first step now I'm trying to log in
as another user so that user's local account get created but it doesn't.
Is Client32 required for a dynamic user?
    Thanks

Nwgina.dll is *not* a Novell Client specific file.
    See:
"Which GINA is used if multiple products on the workstation install NWGINA?"

"Client32, the ZenWorks management agent, and SecureLogin in LDAP mode all
    share a common NWGINA.DLL."

  • Zen Agent and "Workstation Only"?

We're using the Zen 6.5sp2 agent and NO CLIENT in our remote locations.
Users are consistently choosing to login to the local workstation without
authenticating to eDir, which causes obvious difficulties in
package/policy distribution. I would like to do one of two things:
    1. Set the Agent to default to Workstation Only = 0 so that the Agent
doesn't remember the last setting -OR-
    2. Remove the "Workstation Only" checkbox from the login (I found this reg
key) and then REDUCE the network timeout.
    Any suggestions?

I don't have the collection of settings on me but I can get them.
What I did in clientless environments is to enable "PassiveMode" on the
clients so that the MS GUI was shown and not the NWGina.
With the MS Gina, users would just automatically login to E-Dir in the
    background through the middle-tier.
There would never even be an option for them to not log into E-dir.
At http://www.zenworks.com there is a Group Policy maintained by Shaun
Pond for the Novell Client that I suspect would also include the
required settings for ZEN as well but I am not sure.
I would check it out. I dont have the link but it should not be hard.
I presume a GP would be an easy way to keep the settings you want.

  • Dynamic users group

Looking for a cleaner solution to applying user policies, based on OS.
I have user groups that may be running either XP and Win7.
At the moment I specify a filter for the OS in each individual policy. Each policy is in a policy group say 'Admin Win7 policy group' and applied to the group 'admins'. But so does 'Admin XP policy group'. This means the correct policy gets applied but in the agents "Show Properties/Policies" I get "Non-Effective" messages for policies that get trapped by the filter.
An enhancement request for an equivalent to the 'dynamic workstation group' - 'dynamic user group' perhaps?
    cheers

Currently Exists if you use eDir.
However, it would not help since the OS is not an inherent User Attribute.
Your current implementation is the logical way to go.

  • CSA Policies for dynamic users

    Hi,
We are going to start with our CSA deployment (CSA Ver 6.0.2) and having following points to be clarify. Appreciate if someone can advise me on the bellow points:
    1) How  policies to be dynamically applied to the user, independent of which workstation / server the user is logging on to. This way IT support staff should be able to troubleshoot or login to user's PCs regardless of its installed policies.
In other way... policies to be applied based on users accounts (users login name or Active directory name)
    2) how much bandwidth/traffic will consume to run 200 agents to communicate with MC Server (as some of the clients are located remotely via microwave link)
    3) What are best practise to run the policies for agents and severs.
We going to have 1000 clients with 100 servers.
    Thanks in advance.

I use user states to allow admin users to do things by using a rule module that applies only to them.
Look at the built in user state sets to become familiar with the structure.  If you use AD to define roles, you can create user state sets that include certain AD groups and assign them to rule modules that allow the activities you want them to perform.
For example, I have an AD group called AD\ServiceDesk.  I created a user state set called AD Service Desk Members with users matching and groups matching AD\ServiceDesk.
I created a rule module that allows activities that are denied by other rule modules and applied the user state set to it.
I associated it with the standard Desktop policy that is associated with the group.
Any member of that group can do things on any host in the Desktops group but standard users cannot.
