ZENworks Application Virtualization Server and AD users

Hi There,
I am testing ZENworks Application Virtualization Server V10 to see what it can do for us. However I can't get 1 thing to work. I have defined a LDAP connection to our AD.
After syncronisation all users are visible, so that seems to work. However when I log on to the server as user (that I have enabled) I get a error that an internal error has occured. When loggin in the admin interface I get a error "Oops - we had a problem handling your request" when I want to verify the LDAP setting.
When looking in the event log on the server there is a "Event code: 3005" on ASP.NET.
I have updated the server, Windows 2008 server, to the latest version.
What to do?

Alternate ZenWorks Application source server

Does anyone know if there is a way to have a ZenWorks Application have the
actual source files or executable (in case of an .msi for example) be
launched from an alternate location other than a Novell ZenWorks server. I
realize this is probably a product license issue to allow alternate
locations , but I was wondering if you could do it with say, Linux as the
application server (since Novell is moving toward Linux, and I think open
source too)

I have small tool that I wrote that is run upon client logon that will
automatically authenticate a user or wsobject to any network resource the PC is
configured to connect to.
Normally NW or MS.
I presume if sometype of linux/Unix client was installed it may work as well.
Never tested.

Leopard server and windows users

We run a mac + pc environment with some users on macs, many on pcs, and our office server is a windows exchange for email etc. As a multi-location consulting firm, we need to set up a good collaboration system that is hosted internally (to preserve confidentiality) and allows us to create a web-based knowledge creation, sharing and collaboration environment. We have looked at some of the new web services offers, but all are hosted by the providers.
We are considering buying a mac leopard server and have the following questions:
1/ will windows users be able to use the wiki, chat, calendaring and podcast facilities from their laptops without any problems, and will they have the same easy user interface?
2/ does the wiki server enable group collaboration like:
2a/ sending out email notifications on new posts (without changing our exchange server)
2b/ allowing groups to create project and team specific areas
3/ The problem we face is one of adoption. If we can make this as easy as facebook, then lots of people will migrate within 48 hours. But is this possible with the leopard server?
4/ finally, we are based in Singapore and our offices are all in Asia? Do we need a lot of experienced Apple-savvy technical people to create any of these applications, or is leopard server as easy to use as a mac is for a home user?
Any thoughts or inputs would help. FYI, alternatives we are evaluating are jive software's clearspace or basecamp or zoho's web based suites.

Yes, the web based interfaces work just fine for both OS's, the chat server is using jabber (clients on about every OS) and the calendaring is using the standards based iCalendar format.

I don't know of functionality to send out e-mail notifications on new posts, but you can subscribe to RSS feeds of things posted in the blog section of the wiki server. I'd need a little bit more information to understand what you're looking for as far as creating project and team specific areas.

On the front end most of this stuff is very easy to use, and is in my opinion even simpler than facebook and such.

It's pretty easy to set the server up as long as you read the documentation. There's also a lot of resources online if you have problems (like this forum). It would probably be helpful to have someone familiar with LDAP systems and at least some command line usage on the server, but like I said, the documentation is pretty good. Mac Mini Server and 2 Users

My wife and I are consolidating to one computer. Heres what I would like to do, but I am not sure the best way to do it on OS X Server 10.6.
     1) 2 admin accounts
     2) Shared iPhoto library
     3) Separate iTunes libraries
     4) Server for iCal, Address book, Mail.
     5) 3rd computer that logs into the server for iPhoto, calendar, address book, etc....
That is about it. If this were just a move from one computer to another, I would just create another user account and be done with it, but I am not really sure about the difference between a server "user" and a local "user account".
What is the best way to accomplish this?

I have had some forward progress on this front. Thank you for your reply. If I can't get past these next few simple problems, then I will just move on an try your suggestion of doing "Wiki". However, I am already at the steep part of the learning curve and I don't know if I have the time.
Here is where I got to today: met with Genius bar guy. Got some good brainstorming.
Came home and started from scratch.
     1) made sure iCal server was running
     2) made sure directory services was running.
     3) In Server Preferences added a user for both myself and my wife
     4) Added a workgroup with both and only our user's in it (seemed to auto generate so I didn't really create it)
     5) In iCal, added 2 new accounts: mine and my wifes. Now they read as "[email protected]"
     6) Exported all my wifes calendars (me.com account) to the desktop to a folder
So here is where I am getting stuck: iCal is not allowing the user account for my wife to find the server. I get a message reading
     "The calendar https://[servername]:8443/principals/__uids__/62086D68-92B6-450B-8C45-        524C52DC7E0D/ was not found on the server. Make sure the URL is correct.
It is weird. It finds my account fine, just not my wifes....
Now for some history. I did orginally set this machine up with my wifes name as the user account name. So besides the middle initial in the name, they match. What do you think is the issue?
Next step is I am going to try to make my wife a different user account (server) with a shorter name or a nickname and see if it likes that one. Because when it comes right down to it, it doesn't really matter what name I give her in the account field, right? I could call her puppy, as a long as it doesn't get published....
Thoughts?

Clean access server and wireless users

Hi,
The AP has several vlans (employee, guest). There is a trunk up to the switch and all l3 vlan interfaces are created on the switch.
I would like to add a clean access server.
1) Besides the configuration of the clean access server, do I just need to move the l3 vlan interface from the switch to the clan access server untrusted interface?
2) Is the ip address of the trusted interface on the clean access server a trunk too?

I think yes. The ip address of the trusted interface on the clean access server needs to be configured as a trunk too. This is upto my knowledge.

Block and unblock users

I am triying to build an application that block and unblock users, using UME api.
This is the code that I created, but it is not working, I always get the exception. I call this method in onClick event of a button.
My user's database is a LDAP.

i think vimeo is currently working on that: http://vimeo.com/help/faq/embedding#https but otherwise you'd have to temporarily switch to serving your site via http:// to avoid the issue...

Error (2931) VMM is unable to complete the request. The connection to the VMM agent on the virtualization server (host.domain.local) was lost.

kindly advice for this error when create vm from a templates, while i'm not having this issue when create the vm to another host from the same templates,
firewall is disabled and no antivirus on the host.

Recommended Action
Ensure that the Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) service and the VMM agent are installed and running and that a firewall is not blocking HTTPS traffic.
This can also happen due to DNS issues. Try and see if the server (ms-lab-01.eccsolutions.local) is reachable over the network and can be looked up in DNS. You can ping the virtualization server from VMM management server and make sure that the
IP address returned matches the IP address locally obtained from the virtualization server.
If the error still persists, restart the virtualization server, and then try the operation again.

Backup your VMM database and then check the
tbl_VMM_Lock table in the
VMM database to see if it has any locks listed, do this after stopping the System Center Virtual Machine Manager Service.
If there are locks listed in the tbl_VMM_Lock
table you can clear them by executing the prc_VMM_ReleaseAllLocks
stored procedure.

Server Randomly Deletes Users

This is about as odd a situation as I've seen in my 19 plus years dealing with Macintosh issues.
I have a client with Mac Mini Server. It was running Snow Leopard Server. Everything seems fine on the surface, but every other day or so, users would be deleted from the server. You restart the server and more users are deleted. Heaven you accidently touch the power cord, which is a major design flaw for a server, it just pops out and you restart... you will find users missing from the list.
We updated to Lion Server hoping that might help, but it's happening again. Random users, never the same ones, get deleted off the server. Some users lose their permissions or the groups they belong to.
I decided to check the internal hard drive. This was smacking of possible hardware issues at this point. The server is on a UPS with active voltage regulation, so we're not experiencing brown outs. When I went to Disk Utility to check permissions and do a verify disk, it did nothing. Nada. After checknig the forums here, I found that Disk Utility won't work on the internal RAID disk and that you have to use Terminal to do the same action. Very odd, but a workable solution.
So far, it found a few issues, so I rebooted and checked the permissions again. Nothing more showed up. Verify Disk was solid. The drive seems fine from that stand point. So I'm left with actual hardware issues. Something is deleting or corrupting the Users and Groups on the server.
Anyone run into this issue or have any additional ideas as to what's happening?

what is the diff betweeen single user and multi user installationSingle user installation is having one user who owns all the application/database tier files. When you do an installation, you run RapidWiz as this user.
Multi-user installation is having two different users (applmgr user who owns the application tier files, and oracle user who owns the database tier files). When you do the installation, you run RapidWiz as root user.
On Windows, you cannot have multi-user installation. So, the above is valid on Unix/Linux.

please let me know advantages and disadvantages also .I always prefer multi-user installation as you just source the application/env file in the user's profile (in the applmgr/oracle profile) and the file is sourced once you login as that user. For single user installation, you will have to be sure that you source the proper env file manually each time you want to switch between the application and the database (just imagine if you try to shutdown/startup the database after sourcing the application env file, or trying to use any database executable file like export/import/sqlplus ..etc, you will end up using the application tier executable files).

Was reading though the windows 10 EULA and there is an expansion of a previous restriction.
What it says you can't do with windows 10:
Section 2 c (v):
use the software as server software, for commercial hosting, make the software available for simultaneous use by multiple users over a network, install the software on a server and allow users to access it remotely, or install the software on a device for use only by remote users;
Windows 8.1 Pro for comparison has this:The software is not licensed to be used as server software or for commercial hosting, so you may not make the software available for simultaneous use by multiple users over a network.You can understand why they would add these new restrictions to make people pay for Server OS when...

Client application freezes permanently when one user logoff and another user take that session on windows server 2008 r2

we have windows server 2008 r2 and In our application there are three server and on e client application.
My client application freezes on a specific scenario.
Steps taken to hang are following:-
1. start client application
2. open an module named by XYZ
3. login to remote machine with another session./ Another user login from their computer.
4. connect with the session which have client application opened.
5. Whenever the session is forcibly taken client application becomes unresponsive.

What Inderjeet meant was that if you chose to install SharePoint as a single server instead of a complete farm, you won't be able to add servers to the farm at a later time. You can check if this is the case by checking the registry key he mentioned. If
that is indeed the case, there's nothing to it but reinstall the farm.
So that is why you never should choose the single server option, it locks you in and limits future options, while choosing to install sharepoint as a complete farm it's still perfectly acceptable to host it on a single server.

Pretty much all newer versions of UC applications have started supporting virtualization so they can be installed on the VMware.
Have a look at dockwiki for virtualization supported apps:

Some applications like CUCM version 4 were windows based previously but going ahead with version 5, 6 onwards the OS has been changed to Linux Operating system.

After I ran SharePoint configuration wizard successfully to upgrade to SharePoint 2013 / SP1.
I can open Central Administration site just fine.
but now when I open any Site collection, I got this error.
Server Error in '/' Application
This operation can be performed only on a computer that is joined to a server farm by users who have permissions in SQL Server to read from the configuration database. To connect this server to the server farm, use the SharePoint Products Configuration
Wizard, located on the Start menu in Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products
I have restarted all the servers: SQL server, WFE and APP servers but still cann't get this resolve.
Services on all servers are running, IIS - application pools are running.
Can someone help with where that could be a problem or if there is a solution.

Please verify the followings:
Make sure that from the SharePoint front end and application servers that you can ping your SQL server.
Make sure that your Farm account has permission to the configuration database.
Lastly verify that your database didn't for some reasons go into recovery mode.
once everything is fine and you are still having issues, restart the SQL host service on the SQL server.
Once the service is restarted you will need to reboot Central Admin and then your front end servers.
In addition, as you built your farm inside the firewall, please disable the firwall, or create rules for SQL Server service in the firwall on SQL server.

Load balancing between application server and database

Hi,
is there any load balancing between the application server and the database? Consider we have a single instance of an application server that sends database queries from different clients to the database. Are the requests queued in some way at the application server, allowing to control the flow of the queries (e.g. queries from "more important" clients might be sent with a higher priority)?

Just wanted to let you guys know that my installation finished successfully.
The thing which confused me was that my Qtime, Qdate and everything else was showing correct values..
Well, my problem I set the environmental variable PASE_TZ to the EST time zone on a SYS level using WRKENVVAR>F4>SYS and added the variable. I logged off and the sidofr logged off, but one user which should have logged off and didn't was the "SAPINST"(my installation user) which was logged in the subsystem TMKSVR00.
Even when I had closed the SAPINST installlation program, the user doesn't log off...it just sits there until and unless u shut him out of the system using the option 4 on wrkactjob for ending the JOB(SAPINST logged in the system below the TMKSVR00 subsystem)
So since the SAPISNT user never logged of, his environmental variables were not initilized properly, even after the changes...
This thought came to me almost after a 6 hours of wasting my time searching for notes here and there...
I think when u end/stop the install in SAPINST, the SAPINST user should log off the AS400 system, but I have noticed, it never does...although when u restart the installation, if u have noticed it shows you the log on for the SAPINST user in the TMKSVR screen...
Its kind of buggy, I would say...
I have noticed, that even when I log on to AS400 from home or from a remote PC using Emulator, it shows me logged in the subsystem and even after i have logged of, it still shows me there...
Anyway, thanks a lot guys...for all your responses..
