ZENworks Database and Primary Servers / Scheduled Reboot

Hi all,
I hope I got the correct forum for my questions. If not could an admin be so good to move me to the correct one?
We've got a ZENworks 11.3.1 Zone with 4 Primary Severs (SLES 11SP3) and up to 25 Satellites (mixed OS). The Databases are on MS SQL.
Some times we get very strange behaviour of bundles, policies and ZCC is slow. After taking the Databases down and reboot the four primaries the zone is working fine again for a time.
My question is: Do you reboot your Zone daily/weekly? I did'nt find any recommendations in the documentation.
Thanks in advance for letting me know how you handle this.
Kind regards
Sebastian

Hey
Zpm in place? Thats a large DB, I see 9GB with 2700 devices on sql.
This from the docs:
Check database integrity
Shrink database
Reorganize index
Rebuild index
Update statistics
Back up database
Do you do any of the above? You could give it a try?

  • Best practice approach for seperating Database and SAP servers

    Hi,
I am looking for a best practice approach/strategy for setting up a distributed SAP landscape i.e separating the database and sap servers. If anyone has some strategies to share.
    Thanks very much

I can imagine the most easiest way:
Install a dialog instance on a new server and make sure it can connect nicely to the database. Then shut down the CI on the database server, copy the profiles (and adapt them) and start your CI on the new server. If that doesn't work at the first time you can always restart the CI on the database server again.

  • Agents for database and application servers

    hi all,
I have to go to a client site this week to install Gagents onto some database servers, some will be RAC and some application servers. it is on AIX. are there different agents for database and applications? In a RAC cluster do I need an agent per node?
    rgds
    alan

When installing agents in a cluster (read - RAC), during the installation, on one of the screens, you will have the option of picking up all the nodes in the cluster. Else, if you are using a push or agent deploy method, you just have to pass the correct flag (can't remember) and then list all the nodes in the cluster.
To your other questions, you do not need different agents for database, and app servers etc. The only time you would need different agents is when you are installing on different platforms.

  • SECURITY PATCH ON STANDBY DATABASE AND PRIMARY DATABASE

I have a question on applying CPU on standby and primary database
I have a standby database on machine2 and primary on machine1
I applied a CPU patch on the Oracle Home of Standby database and
did not run the catcpu.sql as standbydatabase is in mount state.
Now i am going to apply the CPU patch on primary database.
What i need to confirm is that after i apply the patch on primary database oracle home
and run the cat cpu.sql on that do i have to do anything on the standby database
for instance rebuilding it or something or the change would be shipped to the standby
    server automatically.
The purpose is to have the primary and standby database on the same patch level
    in case of a failover
    Please let me know asap

Any one has any idea on this. Any ideas would be appreciated

  • Can I have a primary database and standby database with a different windows version?

    Hi
    I need your help.
We need to increase the memory in the server where is the standby database , but first, we need to upgrade the windows version.
The actual version is windows 2003 standard edition 64 bits
The new version will be windows 2003 enterprise  edition 64 bits
This difference in windows version  between primary and standby servers can cause a problem in the synchronization between primary and standby databases ??
What do you recommend? Have both servers in the same windows version?
The databases are in SQL SERVER 2005.
    Thanks.
    Loreinn

This difference in windows version  between primary and standby servers can cause a problem in the synchronization between primary
    and standby databases ??<o:p></o:p>
There is no issue with database synchronization as long as SQL Server is of same version.<o:p></o:p>
What do you recommend? Have both servers in the same windows version?<o:p></o:p>
OS(Windows version) has no restriction for using SQL server 2005 database mirroring/log shipping. You can go with upgrade without any worries on SQL
    database side.<o:p></o:p>

  • SCCM CAS & Primary Site Server - Same SQL Database and Reporting Instance

    Hi Fellows,
I need to know whether, for SCCM CAS, a dedicated/seperate SQL instance for SCCM CAS a mendatory requirement or recommendation?
Or we can use the same SQL instance used by Primary Site Server?
    J.A

There no technical reason not to have the CAS and Primary database in separate instances of the same remote SQL server. However if you are going to deploy a CAS that would suggest a very large number of clients and a very busy infrastructure. In that case
I would RECOMMEND separate SQL servers.
This is a good guide for SQL sizing (but it is only a guide)

  • Content database and share point configuration databases in different sql servers

    HI
i have a sharepoint 2010 farm and connected to a sql server ,
here it can be possible to connect all sharepoint configuration databases to one sql server,
and content database in different sql server ,
if i do in future can i face any issues?
    adil

Yes you can. You can specify the SQL server whilst creating the databases and as long as you have configured the required permissions that will be fine. If you really wanted you could have a dedicated SQL instance for each database, although that would be
    very wasteful.
There are no significant issues, you will have a bit more maintenance to look after two SQL servers but that's about it.

    Hi,
Look at the requirements it is specified there. And as far as I can recollect they must match. Because standby feature differ beween the versions.

  • XML, stylesheets, databases, and servers...

Hi! I have rather complicated design problem, and I'm if XML does the
trick. I have made an experimental web server, that acceccess my more experimental database. I would like an opinion of my quite massive idea, of how to implement that.
Currently the server's output are done by println's. I want to get out of this, since it's hard to manage, and custom templates are hard to implement.
I was wondering using XML with stylesheets. I have earlier made a cool system that creates smartly with minimal effort XML structure from instances. Then user (or user via a gui) could define the page templates in another XML file. With template I mean, how many records in one page, the backgroundimage, every other row different color like here in java forum, the outlook basicly.
Then on a request server would go through the template XML file, and on that XML-file, the XML structures of objects will be joined to that according to directions in template, causing a whole page of xml to be generated.
Another thing why I want to create XML-file is that I want also to do a gui with swing to this database, and it could be more easily done, if the output is well defined XML structure.
Then the stylesheet, which is also part of template would be applied to that xml file, and decent output is recieved from server. Now before I start creating this whole system, I would like to now is it possible? And second question, is it possible to make it work smoothly?

I went through some of the material the site offered. Quite cool, although I'm disapponted about that every new idea I get somebody has already done it. It used some of the implementation that I would have used, (the aspects of memory usage and the piping of the transformation process), but I learned too some new ideas from it. I cannot decide wheter I should be unique and create my own sofware or use the Cocoon... I have been known to take the hardest path for challenge usually, so maybe I should create my own server:)

  • Developing through Databases and servers

Is it possible to have the basic information for the app on a database and link it to the app (written in VB) using a server? If so, how?
This is rather than typing loads of pages and instead can reduce the size of the app and have less frequent updates.

You will have to host a WCF Service on our server where you have database. And you can consume WCF Service from Windows Phone.

  • Zenworks Database - High Availability

    Hello,
we just use Zenworks 10 with an Oracle Database. We have two primary Zenworks Servers at two different Locations (Other Town - Linked via VPN).
Is it possibile to configure the Database High Availability - so that the external primary Zenworks Server is still available/manageable after a VPN Connection breakdown.
    Best regerds,
    Alex Sommer

This would need to be done with Oracle.
ZCM talks to a single Database.
If you can configure Oracle so that ZCM is unaware that there are
multiple back-end databases and Oracle can somehow figure out how to
resolve changes when the different DBs are not talking, I presume this
would work. This would all need to be handled by Oracle, however.
Normally, All Primaries would be in the Data Center with the Database.
Satellite Servers would be in the remote offices.
If the VPN connection was down, users would authenticate with Cached
Credentials and have their cached bundles/policies.

  • SQL Server wants to open properties of wrong database and cannot restore logs of different databases at the same time

We have implemented our own way of logshipping by backing up the transaction logs of all our non-system databases every hour. Then we transfer the backups (before SQL Server 2008 R2 with additional zip and unzip steps) to the second environment where we
restore them only during the night on databases in standby-state (Like this, our developers can access the databases without disturbing the productive system and we can restore the t-logs during night, so not shutting out the developers during the day).
Now since we replaced our hardware in the productive environment, we replaced the hardware in the second environment with the servers from previous productive environment. Same SQL Server 2008 R2, same Service Pack (SP2), same installation procedure. But
since then the SQL Server in the second environment behaves different:
    - When the logs of some database "A" are restored, I cannot access the properties of any database, i.e. database "B", I only get the error message "Cannot show requested dialog. (SqlMgmt) Database 'A' cannot be opened. It is in the
middle of a restore. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 927)"
    - Our logshipping runs multiple instance at the same time, so restoring multiple databases' logs. But since the change, two of the instances fail restoring of datatbases, i.e. "B" and "C" with the error message "Database 'A' cannot
be opened. It is in the middle of a restore.". The jobs guarantee to restore only logs of the database they need to restore, they have strictly separated sets of target databases and only try to restore the databases of their sets.
Before the new installations, we did not have these strange behaviours. But as said, it is the same SQL Server version, the same service pack, and we followed the same installation document but maybe with the small changes in settings. The user the jobs
are running under is a domain admin, the login they use has dbcreator, processadmin, db_owner and db_backupoperator roles. My login on the SQL Server has sysadmin rights and as described similar problems.
Is this problem known or does somebody have an idea where to go looking for?
    Thanks, Chris

    Hi Christar,
According to your description, after you configuring Log shipping between two database, you remove the hardware from production environment to dev environment, in this hardware, there are saved the transaction logs of your database.
When restoring  your database, there will occurs error 927, right?
SQL Server Log shipping allows you to automatically send transaction log backups from a
primary database on a primary server instance to one or more
secondary databases on separate secondary server instances. It consists of three operations:
1.Back up the transaction log at the primary server instance.
2.Copy the transaction log file to the secondary server instance.
3.Restore the log backup on the secondary server instance.
Since you want to move your hardware avoiding copy job, we need to verify if .mdf and .ldf file are not saved in your hardware, or else,
if you move your hardware, you could not open your database in your Primary Server. I recommend you can refer to the following steps.
Full back up your primary database and restore it into the secondary database. It would have been set up as WITH STANDBY ,the databases would read StandBy/ Read Only.
Perform transaction log backups via a SQL Server Agent job running on the primary server instance, save them in your hardware.
In night, you move hardware to your dev environment, you can manually restore these transaction log backups or set up a SQL Server Agent job to restoring them from your hardware.
There is detail about how to configure log shipping in SQL Server 2008R2 step by step, you can review it.
