Zenworks Imaging

Hello,
I have a problem with our ZenWorkserver. After 2 week ServerUptime I get
on the workstation in PXE-Boot following error:
PXE-T04 Illegeal TFTP-Operation
PXE-E36 Error received from TFTPServer.
On the Server I see no Errors.
I have a Netware 6.5 SP6 and Zenworks 6.5 SP2ir.
The error comes after the Update SP6 for Netware. I have updated the
NIC-Driver for Broadcom-Nic.
Is there any solution or workaround for this problem?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi All,
    I'm in the preparation stage of a Windows 7 rollout to 4000 desktops. So far we've packaged up 200 applications/bundles and tested them against our image, everything on that front is fine.
    Our new ZENworks 11.3.2 server is being now being used to deploy our old Windows XP images (created in ZfD7), I'm using hardware rules to do this and it's working perfectly.
    When I use the hardware rules to deploy our new Windows 7 Image it will image once as expected. The PC then boots, a powershell script will build the hostname from the model and serial number, join the domain, install the ZCM agent and all looks good.
    The problem comes later when I try to image the machines again, we get "no work to do". After some reading I assume this is because of the Image Safe Data.
    I've tried a things so far but seem to be getting inconsistent results, basically each time I PXE the machine I want the machine to use the hardware rule to pull down the image.
    The only way I have found that seems to work,is to clear the Image Safe Data and delete the "Novell ZENworks Image-Safe Data Service" after the agent has been installed (as part of my build script). This seems like overkill to me and I'm sure I'm missing something. Help!
    Any help/guidance would be much appreciated!

    Often the just use the ZCC to tell the device to Apply the Assigned Image and then upon reboot it will just apply the image.
    Some often script this with WOL so that every morning at 3am all of their lab devices will re-image.
    Also you don't want to "Delete" the ZISD Service, it is better to configure the Default ZCM Agent Settings to install that service if you do not want it.
    Otherwise, it will come back.
    You may also be able to make configure the ZCM Imaging Menu to Always show when PXE Booting.
    Then you could manually select an image to restore, regardless of the state of the ZENworks Image Safe Data.

    I'm not sure how this will effect client machines in the future when we update the Agent.
    When other customers reimage a machine which is already registered in ZENworks, do they push out images from the console?

    As part of our re imaging process, policy requires us to backup all
    workstations before re imaging. this often results in images ~25GB in size.
    (I am aware that it is not good practice to save data locally and ideally
    backup images should not be huge. Unfortunately due to policy this is
    unavoidable.)
    ZENworks imaging works great, except that occasionally individual files
    cannot be extracted from the image.
    When i try to extract a file in the above situation i am prompted with the
    following error:
    "A decompression error occured while attempting to extract the file from
    the image (-112). This file may not be extracted."
    In the past i have noted that the file in question tends to be quite large,
    (280MB) and is compressed in a fairly large image, ~20GB.
    Have checked on the original PC and the file is intact and working fine.
    When i backup the machine via Ghost the file is able to be extracted fine.
    Any help on this topic would be great as its difficult to test individual
    files and once the PC has been re imaged, if a file is corrupt in the
    image, it is impossible to retrieve.

    Is the file compressed using NTFS compression?
    It may be colored blue if you look at it in Windows Explorer.

    Sorry for posting again, but here is some more information, as well as some extra things we have tried.

    The above message occurs (and this happens to other Laptops & PCs) after the machine has been imaged, but we are still having the computer re-imaging itself, it is in a constant loop.
    We were running Zenworks 7SP1 IR4. Last week we loaded Zenworks 7SP1 SR4.
    My manager has rolled back to IR4, but no change, as we have computers constantly re-imaging over and over in a loop.
    I have tried deleting the workstation object (name) from within ConsoleOne, and still the problem occurs. I have also made sure there are no add-on images attached to the imaging.
    Notes:
    Now, whenever we image a PC, the imaging process appears to finish, but we get an error: "Zenworks Imaging failed with Error:52"
    The system then reboots and starts the process again. If you look at the workstation properties, the Zenworks Image tickbox has not cleared, and hence the restart of the imaging.
    I found that Zenworks error 52 is: "52 - No partition type given when asked to create a part". I don't know why it would be saying that. (It is also possible that this message has always been there, but we have never noticed it, as the process has always worked).
    I came across an article that suggests the "ZENworks agent on the workstation has to be the same version as the ZENworks snap-ins in ConsoleOne".
    We are using:
    ConsoleOne Version 1.3.6h
    ZENworks Desktop Management 7.0.1 = snap-ins for configuring policy settings
    ZENworks Desktop Management 7.0.1 = snap-ins for administering and managing software distributions

  • Zenworks imaging failed with error:200

    We just got new PC's and when I try to use ZENworks 6.5 to put my image
    on them, I get "ZENworks imaging failed with error:200"
    I have not been able to find anything in the KB for this.
    The PCs are Gateway E-4500D, ZENworks is 6.5 running on NetWare 6.5 SP 4a.

    We are on SP2 and getting the error code: 200 error. The PC's are DC5100
    Small form factor. They have SATA drives. Some work and some get this
    error, reboot and then start the image restore, but never gets to the
    Pre-Formatting. Any ideas?

  • ZENworks Imaging Server 7 NetWare 6.5

    We are using a NetWare 6.5 Server with ZENworks Imaging Server v7.0.1
    Could someone tell me if there is a way to look at logs, to tell when a machine was last imaged, or even better the image history for a machine.
    Are there log files which show this? or is there another process?
    Alternativly, can I look at a machine, and look for a file or something which would show the image date of that machine?
    I have tried ZISWIN.EXE but there are no log files.
    We have a dispute and we need to show when a machine / group of machines was last imaged, date would be great.

    is it possible to distribute the Zenworks Image with another distribution system?
    there are a lot of distribution software on the market, is someone familar with them, and may know what kind of software distribute the Zenworks Image to the workstation too. ?

    did anybody know if they work with the zenworks image too?

    I'm not aware of tools to convert ZENworks images to a different format, and given ZENworks images are file aware, I can't imagine it would be easy to convert them. The safest option remains to restore the image to a workstation and then take a new image using the "other" imaging tool.
    Note that with a ZENworks imaging boot CD, you don't even need an imaging server. Having for example the ZENworks image on an external disk should be enough for manual image restore.

    The laptop finds the wireless driver instead of the LAN driver.
    We are running ZENworks 11.2 without any patches and now want to apply the imaging updates:

    But on the page it states SLES 11.. Windows 2003/2008, Novell Open Enterprise Server 2, SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 11
    We are running SLES10 SP4 can I install it?
    Also in the readme there is something about Kernel Version: 3.0.76-0.11-default , will this work on my SLES 10 SP4?
    Will the imaging update work on my ZENworks 11.2 unpatched system?

    Yes - I'm not sure why SLES10 isn't listed but it should be.

    The kernel version relates to the Imaging files not the host OS.

    So yes it will work although I'm curious why you haven't patched
    your ZENworks 11.2 system, at least with an 11.2.x update as
    those updates are released for a reason.

  • Zenworks Imaging with Dialog command

    Hi,
    Recently I have applied the HP5 on my linux server in the goal to correct
    some Zen pxe problem.
    Before upgrading to HP5, my pxe environment worked in a bash script menu
    that using the DIALOG linux command. This way, the technicians could
    select workstation image without typing the name on the prompt. Now,
    after upgrade, the DIALOG doesn't work anymore because it's not the same
    Kernel.
    Before, it was the kernel 2.6.5-7.244 12 dec 2005 and it's the same as my
    Zen server. With the HP5 installed, the pxe is on kernel 2.6.16.21-0.25
    19 sept 2006.
    Now, I don't have a menu anymore, all techs must type the zen imaging
    commands.
    How can I obtained a new version of DIALOG adapted for the new Kernel?
    I'm not a Linux expert, but probably I will have to get this command from
    a station that I will need to upgrade the Kernel? This command, I have
    taked it from my zen server, can I upgrade the Kernel of this server
    easily ?

  • Windows 8 deployment using Zenworks imaging services

    Hi,
    I would like to find some guidelines or best practices stuff in order to help me with the deployment of Windows 8.1
    For our current method with Windows 7, we used SYSPREP with offline drivers for multiples machines in a local folder ex. C:\Drivers.
    Now it seems that it won't work anymore with Windows 8, and when we ask for help in the Microsoft forums we are pushed to products like MDT,WDS and SCCM.
    Does anyone here had a successful Windows 8 deployment ?

    Simply put, you call dpinst on first login after the image is deployed on the workstation by adding the following to sysprep unattend xml:

    You could add all the drivers to the base image or then use addon images for specific workstations models that places the workstation specific driver into: C:\drivers\pnp.

    I'm experiencing a problem with ZDM7, which I have installed on an OES2 server. The problem appears to be specific to the imaging service, which I believe is loaded as a module into NDS. I installed ZDM7 using the updated media, which claims to support OES2.
    The problem: the imaging service runs fine for about a day or two, and then crashes. When it crashes, the ndsd.log file gets spammed hundreds of times per second with:
    allocation failed: 12
    This quickly fills up the /var partition on the server, which then effectively crashes the entire server.
    Restarting NDS and the imaging service fixes the problem temporarily, but it always reoccurs.
    Is this related to any known issue? If not, is there a way to get a more verbose error message from either the imaging service or ndsd?

    Hello there. I am a new PC tech at my local school district. I'm just starting to delve into the ever so fascinating world of Zenworks and am currently at an unclear understanding. The admin is ready and waiting to push out a setup that includes Windows Active Directory. As I've read and been lead to understand in the forums here Zenworks imaging by default is suppose to save ISD info when it does an image. Most notable is workstation name of course. I have noticed that when imaging off of the server directly this does not occur. However when I've imaged from one PC as a master to any number of others, it does occur. Is there special criteria that must happen for this to work? What I need to be able to do is image and not worry about losing PC name and the SID info, otherwise everytime we image, we will have to clear the SID info on the server and reset it on said computer(s). Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Once you computers have been imported into Zenworks the computer name is maintained in the Image Safe Data (ISD) within the first 60ish sectors of the hard drive outside of the partitionable space. When you reimage the machine the zenworks agent picks up on and maintains the name of the computer in the ISD.
    And the reverse is true in that changing the computer name, will change the computer name in the ISD on the next reboot. From within windows you can have a look with ziswin and from the bash prompt with zisview.
    Likely overly simplified as the "Just Imaged Flag" influences the direction of the synchronization per se.
    In short.. you may need to set the computer name once, but not for subsequent times when you reimage. Depending upon your naming scheme you may wish to grab a utility called 'wsname' and have it on your base image, and call it with the cmdlines.txt. This should give your computer a name based upon various criteria such as serial tag.. or IP or Mac Add, etc..

    However, it has now stopped working with the new vostro laptops.
