Zenworks Remote + ConsoleOne for Linux

I run a Linux desktop at work, I can install ConsoleOne but there are no zenworks snapins for the Linux version that I can find. Does anyone know a workaround?

Obvious choice is Linux+WMwareServer(free) and WinXP+C1 inside.
On my dual-core notebook WinXP works even faster inside virtual machine
than standalone ;), and I use SLED cube to jump from Linux to WinXP in
subsecond.

  • 10 foot user interface remote options for Linux

    Hi people!
I already posted a topic asking how could i share my music, videos, etc, from my Arch PC to my Arch HTPC.
Now I'd like to hear suggestions about remotes, pros and cons, I've already considered these options:
1 - Buy an IR receiver and a standard remote will do the job (I already got a multifunction remote (which can control up to three devices and I only got a single device), but I'm afraid nowadays there aren't many USB receivers compatible with Linux and most importantly, they must be cheap, a PCI card is not an option since my PC has a half-sized case)
2 - Get a bluetooth USB adapter and control it using my cellphone (probably not very adequate, and it would quickly drain the cellphone's battery)
3 - Get a USB bluetooth adapter, build a Wii USB sensor bar, and buy a WiiMote (more expensive than other options)
I think the better suited option here is the first one, if only someone could recommend me a good IR receiver for Linux, I'd be very thankful)
Anyone has got more ideas? Or suggestions for reducing costs or improving usability about my options?
    Thanks everyone!

    I have one of these:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … -_-Product
    Which works fine with Linux.
Now I also don't use the remote a lot, since I'm running just a regular desktop on my htpc and control the pc through a keyboard with embedded trackpad:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6823111038
(they have both wired and wireless versions of these. I got the wired one with an usb extension cable)
(As a matter of fact, I'm posting this from my htpc )

    Hello,
I have a 64-bits Linux box with RHEL4, and PHP version has been upgraded from 4.3.9 to 5.1.6. I try to make the connection to remote oracle server.
I download instantclient-basic-linuxppc-10.2.0.2-20060327.zip , and follow the instruction to
    install it.
But when i try to install php-oci8*.rpm, no matter which i use:
    php-oci8-5.1.6-1.el5.i386.rpm or php-oci8-4.3.9-2.2.el4.i386.rpm
The installation always failed due to dependencies errors with oracle instant client.
I also tried with some other packages like: php-oci8-4.3.9-3.el4.x86_64.rpm
All my tries gave me dependency errors.
    sometime like:

    oracle-instantclient = 10.2.0.3 is needed by

I have been trying on this problem for more than one week, and so frustrated. I will appreciate if I can be guide on this issue.

  • Oracle 9i client for linux & PHP

I'm looking to connect PHP on my linux server to a remote oracle server running 9i. I have been unsuccessful in finding good documentation on this process, as most people are either using windows or connecting to a local server.
As far as I can tell, you must install the oracle client for linux, then recompile PHP with oracle support. So:
    1) Is this the best method to do this, and if so where can I get an oracle client for linux?
    2) Is there a location where I can get the oracle extension for PHP without having to recompile PHP?

I believe the extensions are refered to in the php.ini
    and need to be setup.
    ;Windows Extensions
;Note that MySQL and ODBC support is now built in, so no dll is needed for it.
    extension=php_oracle.dll
;Don't know if this is needed and whether there is a
    ;php_oci9.dll
    ;extension=php_oci8.dll
which can be found by this:
    extension_dir = "C:\WINDOWS"
I am trying to perform a similar task, well, sort of. I am running Oracle 9i (9.2.0.1.0) on a Win2003Server machine and do not want to build PHP either.
Please let me know if you find your answer.

  • Photoshop for Linux OS?

I recently switched to Linux and have yet fully figured out if I can use photoshop in some way, shape or form...I appreciate the help!!

    Hi Chris,
I was looking at some old threads on the 'PS on Linux' conversations.   I know some are old threads (years old) and you likely had enough of it but always wanted someone at Adobe to hear my cries.  8)
    - PS was ported to IRIX back in the day,  it was the second platform I used it on (mac being the first) - while I could be wrong I suspect you would sell more licenses for linux than for all the SGI ones ever sold,   in your first year of offering it on linux.    I know they don't exist today and that was a long time ago - Adobe was a smaller company back then and was likely more nimble.
    - PS is done in C+,  a port would be fairly "easy".
    - I am willing to bet a linux port within Adobe already exists,  as a result of an official mandate or skunkworks project.  I worked at a few large software companies (Alias/Autodesk) and know this is how some ports of projects start their existence, as internal skunkwork efforts.
    - A few years ago you said its too complex to offer on linux as the landscape isn't settled (which is still the case).   At Alias we ported a few of our products such as Maya in the 90's,  to both linux and windows,  I suspect Maya has more lines of code and is more complex than PS.   What we did to address the 'linux fragmentation' issue as many other vendors do who offer ports,  is state the system OS/Distro requirements.    Many list / standardize on RHEL as an example.   If you are not using that, you are not using a supported configuration - support is off the hook (unless its Ford or a similar sized client calling you).
    - effort vs cost.  An interesting thing here is the amount of effort it took for the ports we did.     2 guys in the Seattle office ported the IRIX code base of Maya to Windows in 2 weeks during their off time!   Every company/project is different,  i understand it may not be the same at Adobe.
    - another comment you may of made was 'linux users don't typically buy software'.   I think things have changed here.   I can say from my personal experience working in M&E studios for the last 15 years or so that Adobe would of had purchase orders for a few hundred linux cuts.   That is from 2 or 3 studios here in Town that I've been at.   How many cuts does Adobe have to think they need to be able to sell before the effort gets traction?    In 3 studios there was an effort made to roll the desk tops over to linux,  and its always the same road block which prevents many from doing so,  Adobe Photoshop.   Its used in almost every department so it makes it extremely difficult to move off of windows or mac.   Every one of these studios would be more than happy buying PS for linux post roll over.  If these 3 studios in town here would be good to buy 40-100 cuts each,  we are only 3 of hundreds or thousands of studios out there..   The first release may not sell a bunch as it would take people time to realize the final road block has been removed,  and plan for a migration,  which typically have to be scheduled weeks/months in advance due to project schedules.  But i'm sure with each quarter,  sales would continue to climb.     Aside from all that we spend _hundreds of thousands_ of dollars on licenses for products which will run on linux.    the industry spends money.
    - I ended up here on this page as yet again I find myself at yet another  studio who wants to move off of windows to linux for the desktop,  and we are seeing how/if the landscape has changed related to the Photoshop challenge.    Perhaps its the M&E bubble i'm stuck in that makes be believe there is lots of potential for PS on linux - but man,  everyone i've talked to in the industry (from ILM, Disney, Wetta,  Arc and many others) for the last decade or so has always maintained a desire to see PS released on linux.
    -  I wonder who these surveys you state which indicated there is little opportunity are being completed by or what the target audience is.  I've been in a management role for years and have never been asked by Adobe or anyone for that matter if I would like to see Photoshop ported,  or any 'survey' related to Adobe for that matter.   Who is being asked?    There is a forum named "Studio SysAdmins",  if one were to go to that list and prompt the question and I assure you,  you would have several hundred purchase commitments.  That forum is dedicated to people in M&E and many of them are chomping at the bit to migrate off of windows,  yet the common show stopper continues to be Photoshop - for the last decade or so.
    - Most of the open source flag wavers who state they won't buy commercial software are likely still stuck in their basements or just don't get it.   A company who is out to make a profit will use the proper tools to achieve that goal,  regardless if that tool is a commercial one.    some PFY in the tech department refusing to use PS because there is a cost associated to it would/should be turfed.   Some of the people piping up here probably have no decision making role,  but unfortunately they tend to be the most vocal.
    - If Autodesk can do it,  Adobe can too!
    - I'm being forced to consider some sort of remote to the desktop photoshop solution.  its going to cost us more per workstation to use PS than the product itself.  We have never had any luck using PS under emulation,  such as Wine.   it "works" but has many issues and i've never seen an Artist accept it.    Wine is not an option for most professional applications I suspect.
    - Adobe is out to make money,  they have lots of money.  I'm sure they could afford to test the waters without going under or pissing off the share holders.   There is always a budget for projects when times are good.
    - conspiratorial theories aside - M$ has been known (many times) to 'influence' vendors in ways which are attempts to maintain M$'s market share. They have been brought to court many times for related issues.   Apple not so much,  as far as I know.   I mention this its not a far leap to make when someone says "M$ has a deal with Adobe".     Personally I don't think this is the case in this particular situation but its  plausible.  Stranger deals have happened at the executive level in many companies.
    thanks for your time,
    take care,
    g

  • WebDB 2.2 for Linux?

  • Choosing oracle for linux ! what are merits and demerits

we are going to choose oracle for linux for our e-commerce site which will serve as search engin and shopping mall.

    Thanks cgawoods for the advice...
I followed all the steps that you mentioned... Installing the Oracle client proved to be easy as pie on the Linux server, and connecting to the Oracle instance on the NT server was instantaneous with sqlplus... tnsping also finds the Oracle server without a hitch.
I also made the modifications to the coldfusion start script you mentioned, i.e. setting ORACLE_HOME, etc (which is also mentioned in Allaire's docs).
However.... (yes, here it comes) The DSN still comes up as 'failed' when I try to add a new one using the native drivers in the Coldfusion Administrator.
Do I need to do anything on the Oracle server side (NT) first in order to get things working?
I'm pretty stumped at this point as to why this won't work.
    Thanks

If you download the Oracle 8.0.5 EE (RedHat 5.2) or Oracle8i EE(Redhat 6.0-6.2) Server programs, you may use the "Server" installation as an Oracle Client. Once you get Oracle installed, you will need to configure the tnsnames.ora file to point to your remote database. Then, you will need to point Cold Fusion to the $ORACLE_HOME where you installed the Oracle Server software. You will want (and probably need) to use the "native" oracle driver for Cold Fusion instead of the ODBC driver. Once the Oracle installation is complete, and you can "tnsping" the Oracle instance on NT, you should be able to configure Cold Fusion to talk to your Oracle database. It's just a matter of reading Allaire's documentation on configuring Cold Fusion for use with Oracle at that point.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

If all else fails, you can download GW8 and use the one in there.

  • There is a version for Linux Debian Labview 2011?

    Hello ...
I am developing a remote service and one of the objectives is that this database is a server with Debian operating system, I searched the LabView 2011 for Debian GNU / Linux and have not found it, if anyone knows? Also of LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control also for this operating system?
Or any way I can develop my service in windows and then perform a type of application that runs very well considering my database with this server?
Thank you very much and see you soon

I have not tried Labview for Linux on Debian (You really need to mention the version). You could try it and see if it works. Note, Labview for Linux only runs 32 bit. The compatibility issue is highly dependen on your 32 bit library.
Even though NI keep saying they are going to support Linux  more, I notice they keep saying it for years but heir support is not very good.
I suggest you do a client server relationship. You could install a client software on Windows  (you did not mention the type of data base to be used, files, postgres, mysql, hadoop, etc). The client support for windows is dependent on your client support.
Another alternative is to use Network Shared variables. You can host it on the Windows machine and use tcp/ip to fetch the data directly from the  windows machine. There are many choices. The information you provide is mininal at best.

  • Help with Labview for Linux application - datalog to XML format

    Hi,
I am working on an application that makes use of a PDA for instrument control and data acquisition, and all our code has been written with the use Labview PDA 8.2. The instrument data is returned wirelessly to a remote server, and one of the specifications we set early in the project was the data would be returned in XML format in line with Labview's inbuilt XML schema.
Unfortunately, this XML funtion is not available on Labview PDA! We have made a change to return the data in Labview's 'Datalog' format, and then we now intend to run an additional application on the server to convert this information to XML before passing the data to our customer's software.
We have successfully done this with Labview for windows, but our customer's server is Linux based.
Is anyone aware of someone (or a company) who would be able to take our existing 'datalog-to-XML' vi and compile it for Linux? The program is really simple, and I would hope that all the functionality we use is supported in Labview for Linux.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Mark
LabVIEW VIs that are developed in a Windows environment can be used in a Linux version of LabVIEW. As long as the VIs have not got Windows specific features such as ActiveX or Windows dll call you can run the VI in Linux. Also there maybe some specific drivers that are not supported under the Linux environment (see link). The VI will simply be recompiled in Linux. The Linux user must have a copy of the Linux LabVIEW Development System installed though.

    Armin,
Is it OK for you to actually copy the LVNPlugin.so to .../netscape/plugins? This is what I have done on the support machines here in Applications Engineering and it works great. I have Netscape 6.2 installed in /usr/local/netscape so I have the plugin copied to /usr/local/netscape/plugins/LVNPlugin.so. Try updating your Netscape to see if that helps as well. The message you are getting means that Netscape does not even see the plugin.
