ZenXtra Library/Firmware proble

I was loading some music onto my ZenXtra (60GB) last night when it kindly decided to crash! When I re-booted it (and every time I re-boot it), it said "re-building library" (so far... annoying, but nothing earth shattering - I've been here before!). The problem is that when "re-building" the library, the progress bar underneath gets to the first "l" then freezes. I can hear the infernal machine whirring inside, but the progress bar won't budge beyond that blasted first "l". After a couple of minutes (perhaps as much as 5, but no more), the screen changes to say "firmware problem". In here lies the crux of the matter - in order to update the firmware, I need to connect the player to my PC and have it boot up as normal: my PC steadfastly refuses to recognise it while it is re-building the library.
If anybody can offer any advice/information/etc. PLEASE respond.
Many thanks,
Peter_W-S

Thank for advice But it doesn't work! I downloaded new firmware and followed your advised ste
ps.
But problem is that my computer can't recognize the player so I can't continue.. And I absolutely don't know how to fix the connection with PC (but on the beginig it was really OK). And there is stil message FIRMWARE PROBLEM on player's display..Any other advice? Maybe the best solution will be give it back again to the store and request again new one!

it's been doing this for ages.. any suggestions? It won't even load past that. Ever.

Hi, I am not sure if this will help you. I offered the same help to someone else. I had an issue where my Zen Vision M: was not recognized by my computer. I got lucky. I uninstalled all programs related to the zen. I then did a complete cleaning of the registry of all related zen vision m: instances. After that I reloaded all the software and when I hooked it up to my pc it recognized it. I am thinking something corrupts the computer. Like many other porgrams, even after a uninstall, a program may leave references in the registry. I used regseeker which is a free program. It does a great search for items left behind by programs. You can find it by doing a Google search. Or you can always use the regedit/run command in XP. As for your search I would obviously try "zen micro". I would stay away from using "creative", if you have any other creative product like a soundblaster you will have to sift through many entries if you do. After cleaning the registry, install the zen micro programs and hook it up and see what happens. I hope it works for you. Even though my was a Zen Vision M: I also had much the same problem including the firmware reload problem, the rebuiding library etc.Cas

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra FIRMWARE PROBL

In the spring of 2005, I bought a 40GB Nomad Jukebox Sen Xtra. It worked for a little over a month without any problems. Since then, it shuts off on its own and?it freezes. For the first time since I bought it, I attempted to load new music onto it. Now whenever I turn it on, it reads "re-building library..." and then it's stuck on "Firmware Problem."? I tried updating?the firmware from the website, but since?my computer no longer recognizes that?the player is?plugged in.
?I welcome any suggestions for this problem. Please help me so I can stop regretting my decision to buy this...

Kayla24?Looks like you're going to have to start regretting buying something?made by?Creative. There are oodles of stories on these boards regarding software problems and creative mp3 players. Creative have published ?'updates' that effecti'vely disable players but will not take any action unless the machine is still under warranty. The last e-mail I got from tech support said 'We know the firmware [update] disabled your machine, but unless it is still in warranty there is nothing we will do about it."? It was a Zen Xtra 30GB, it's now a paperweight. If your's still turns on, try reinstalling the firmware on a old pc/laptop that has never had Windows Media on it, but has been updated to media player 0. This sometimes works - otherwise join the crowds and get an i-pod. At least they work - and Apple fix 'em when they break 'em.

  • Firmware probl

My Zen micro froze, so i turned it off, and started it again, and it took ages to start up, and eventually it said 're-building library' so i thought 'okey fair enough' so i waited.... until it stopped 3/4 of the way and just froze again.... then after ages it said 'Firmware Problems'
what do i do? i plugged it into the usb port but it says it snot connected... and the screen is still froze on 'Firmware Problems' so i cant upload and firmware updates... its really annoying can someone help me please.

It's in a sticky post at the top of the forum, but... To access the Rescue Mode: remove the battery, hold the power switch to the "on" position and KEEP IT HELD TO "ON" while reinserting the battery.
From there you choose Reload Firmware, then connect it to your PC directly after this and reload the firmware. If this is something you're not comfortable with doing you ought to return the player where you bought it for a replacement, or contact Creative Support.

Hello,?I am experiencing the same problem with my MicroPhoto player. One day it froze on me, and since then the firmware has been acting up. It now goes to a "Firmware Problem" screen every time?I turn it on, and after attempting to remove and re-install the firmware 3 times, it has failed to work. Before I purchased the player, I had heard bad things about Creative replacement costs and how the Zen Micro has many problems as well. It looks like our players have lost the HDD and need to be replaced, which I assume will cost more than its worth... The one reason Creative will never beat out the iPod is because of their player glitches and lack of willingness to correct them. Anybody with more information on the hdd dying problem, could you let me know if you managed to send it in, and how much is cost, etc?

  • Touch: Wont turn off: Need to recover due to "Firmware Probl

    Hi all.
I have a 40gb Touch that just got the Firmware Problem screen. So, I start looking around here and see about recovery steps, but can't get the player to turn off. Try holding down the power button, nothing. The player turns off while the paperclip is inserted for a reset, but restarts when clip is removed. Holding down "Play" has no effect either, so no way to access the recovery screen. Either the "Firmware Problem" screen shows up, or it freezes on the "Zen Touch" screen when it restarts. I am worried about just letting the battery die out to get it to turn off, but I don't know what else to do.
    Anyone have any ideas?
BTW, docking has no effect either. Thanks in advance!
    Joe

vermillion.sun the poster included in their initial problem description " with NO home button ".
Another reply included :I had the same problem… but I solved it by plugging the iPod in. Then I waited about 30 min and suddenly it turned on. Maybe it will work in your case…".
Did you read the initial post or look at the photo in his subsequent reply that shows there is no Home button?

Thank you ELITE Viper for creating this post; I received an iPod touch (new gen) and have had it working for a few days until today where, like yourself, I couldn't power it on. Now, I know the machine works because I was using it at work yesterday AND it had 50-60% battery left so I KNOW that wasn't an issue. I've gel the power button down but I just didn't know what else to try…until reading this post.
    1. I'll hold the power and home buttons down until I see the apple logo appear.
    2. I'll leave it plugged into the mains to see if that turns it back on.
Failing both attempts, can anybody suggest any other techniques before i directly contact apple or visit a store?

  • Micro Zen Firmware probl

Ok, so I have seen a ton on this already, but I am having trouble making them work for me so I am starting a new one. Here goes...
I have a micro Zen mp3 player, worked fine for most of the time I had it. Then one day it said "firmware problem" and showed me four options. I took them in roughly this order: Clean up, then a formatting option, then reboot. Then I foolishly chose the horrible misnamed "reload firmware" option and promptly screwed myself up. My Micro zen was not plugged into my computer at the time so I could not reload the firmware. Then a day or so later, my computer died as I was awaiting a response from Creative. I got a new computer, and it runs vista. Now, I plug it into my USB port and the computer recognizes that a new device is plugged in, but no other program (Windows Media player, etc) recognizes that it is there.
So, thats the back story. What do I do now? Other than hit my mp3 player with a hammer or otherwise break something out of frustration....

Bear with me as I lay out the problems/sequence of events:
    - Got excited over the MTP support and upgraded. My laptop stopped recognizing the Zen
    - Creative support thought that my MP0 maybe hosed; so I rollback and install MP0 again. No resolution.
    - Went into to 'rescue mode' and wiped the disk clean
    - Installed the old firmware; my laptop recognized the Zen
I pressed on and connected my Zen to a desktop and upgraded the firmware to MTP support (v2.x)
    - I was able to sync with MP0 but frequently experienced problems with 'hang' during sync after 00%
    - I disconnected the unit and MP0 aborted the sync
    - Reconnect and sync would hang at the exact same song. Further, I noticed the following:
    - Songs would sync up very fast (noticed around 800KB/S)
    - The problem song would experience startup problems and would hang after reaching 00%
    - I deleted the 'problem' song (which plays fine in MP0) and 'sync' continued without problems
    - Created a playlist in MP0 which synced OK; but the Playlist is missing in Zen!!
    Summary:
I think Creative released the f/w too early.

  • ZEN firmware probl

Yurmed on the Zen 20GB MP3 player today and found it to be in "Recovery Mode". It said to reboot and reload firmware(?) I am completely stuck. It won't work at all and for no reason I can see!. Be v grateful if anyone help please! Thanks. Guy (UK)

If you have the Zen 20GB that is just that , ie without the words Touch, Jukebox, Vision or anything else after it ! (like the black one sold by amazon uk) then the original firmware for download is at select all-goes off page- and paste into browser, or look at downloads on Asia site. Previously covered in older posts. The model you have (if as described)
    is the good-why don't-they-just-sell-it-everywhere-how-can-creative-be-so-stupid-not-to zen 20Gb I have.
    http://asia.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?sOSName=Windows+XP?ion=2&Product_Name =Zen&Product_ID=59&modelnumber=&driverlang=033&OS= 0&drivertype=0&x=33&y=0
Well, they don't sell the Zen in the Europe regions, but the Zen Sleek instead. I would prefer the Zen Sleek over the Zen! It looks a lot better and sleeker than the Zen!

  • Urgent help - Xtra and new firmware probl

After trying to get my Xtra to work with my new vista P.C i discovered that i needed to upgrade the firmware.
so after reading that it deletes the contents of the Xtras HDd ( formats it) i backed up everything and then downlaoded the firmware, and ran the upgrade.
and then it all came to a stop, a windows mnessage came on screen about transfering files using windows media player or take no action, i left this message alone then my Xtra re-booted as advised on screen, and now its stuck at
Rescue mode v.3, with all the usual options, most of which end with 'Firmware error' Before returning to the rescue screen.
The firmware upgrade only tells me that the player is not conected.
the big bigf problem is thatr i need the player to work for tommorow. ( UK time is now 0:45pm, i ned it working by 2:00 am)

  • Creative Firmware Probl

This is a rant, and then I have a question.
    The Rant:
I've been visiting this forum for a while. Our family has three Zen Nano Pluses. I do not understand why the quality of Creative firmware is so low, and I'm asking if anyone understands what the company is trying to do. Gripes about firmware: ) The firmware can be quite difficult to update. The directions for a Nano update are quite incomplete. Just search this forum and you will find MANY people who have had extreme problems. 2) Why is the firmware so crappy? For example, I recently changed to version .2.03. It solved a backlight duration problem, but now the cue/review function can not be changed from "OFF". Why is it that Creative releases firmware that has not been tested? Or do they test it and release defecti've firmware anyway? They spend a LOT in terms of time and customer frustration and increasing negati've reputation of their company each time they release defecti've firmware. Surely it is best to release firmware that has been tested, and works? Or do the writers of Creative firmware just insure themselves of a job by continually playing with the software? Or is there something going on that I do not understand If so, please someone explain it to me.
    The Question:
Is there any version of Nano software that has all functions working?
Thanks, and good luck if you update your Nano firmware.

So, no one knows if any version of Nano software has all its functions working?

  • Zen Micro - Screen Displays "Firmware Probl

As an FYI for those with this issue.
Updated to the new beta firmware upon getting my Zen Micro. After having issues with Napster 2 Go, I got the service transferring the files to the Zen Micro. Listened to the files at night until I got the "Low Battery" message. Plugged it up to charge. Once fully charged, listend from about p til about 7p. The 5 minutes inactivity timer cut off the Zen Micro. Went to turn on the Zen Micro only to have the screen display, "Firmware Problem". I have rebooted, entered rescue mode and did a clean up and reboot, same error. I reloaded the firware to get back into the Zen Micro.

    Meantone,
It would be worth trying a firmware upgrade, if you can, but it sounds like there might be a problem with the player.
I would advise you contact Customer Support directly for assistance.

Hi Everyone!?I'm?in need of your help. I turned on my Zen Microphoto tonight and suddenly a message "firmware problem" shows up on my screen. I was talking to my brother, and he was calling me a noob because I never installed any firmware updates. He's been trying to fix the problem, but we've had no luck. We re-installed the CD and downloaded the newest Firmware but the computer won't detect the Zen in the first place, so we can't fix the problem. I'd appreciate any ideas you could give me. Thanks so much!
