Zero byte pdf output

I am trying to the DocumentProcessor API within the custom java program in iBots.
But it produces a ZERO byte file.
When i run the program separately it burts properly and the output is perfect.
Any ideas why we get a ZERO byte pdf output with DocumentProcessor API within the custom java program in iBots.
Thanks,
Samuel

  • Copying zero byte pdf files infinitely between shared computers

I've just had a nasty experience (which has happened years before in lower operating systems) and is extremely annoying. My Mac Mini and MacBook are set to share files. On my Mini (running 10.7.5) I create a pdf file from a "Print this page" option on a Safari webpage  (using "Print this page" => PDF => Save as PDF). The file shows up ok in the finder of my Mini. Then in another finder window I open my shared MacBook (running Mavericks) and navigate to the folder I wish to copy into.
I drag and drop the file into said folder on the shared Mac, and an info window appears to show the copy process. There is a progress bar, but the process is never completed, but appears stalled. I go away and come back an hour later. Same thing still happening. I check on my MacBook and the folder is now filled with tens of thousands (literally!) of zero byte files, being added to infinitely.
Talk about annoying! Then the finder balks at putting these in the Trash. Then the Trash balks at being emptied. I found the best thing is to drag out of the contaminated folder the files I keep, put them into a new folder, and trash the entire folder that has been filled with you-know-what.
I also turned off TechTool's Trash history option in Preferences, because that would be driven crazy by his process. I checked Activity Monitor, and Finder was shown as NOT RESPONDING several times during this process. Finally got rid of the files. Now I'm using DropBox to transfer files. Sharing web PDF's between my Mac's has become a hazardous experience.
Anyone else have this experience? Any idea how to prevent it? Or is Apple needing to make a software update for this?

More likely that Techtool needs to make an update.  Ask Micromat.

  • Fop printing returns 0 byte pdf files

    Hi,
Spent the whole day trying to get a PDF document out of APEX using Fop, but no luck sofar. Interestingly "fop" in Dutch means: tease, fool, trick, hoax, badger, vex, swindle, hoodwink
    I've tried OC4J/Apache Fop:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html#05
    I've tried Cocoon Fop:
    http://carlback.blogspot.com/2007/03/apex-cocoon-pdf-and-more.html
Both OC4J and Cocoon work fine when trying their sample pages.
I've setup the Apex print server parameters pointing first to the oc4j printserver and then to the cocoon printserver.
This is as far as the documentation gets me. How do I get a document produced? Here is what I did:
I created a form with a sql_query report, entered some query (select * from user_tables) and enabled PDF printing.
Both OC4J and Cocoon produce a zero byte pdf document.
I wonder if the printserver a being called at all since no activity is logged in ...\cocoon\WEB-INF\logs\cocoon.log
How do I find out what is going on. Is Apex calling the print server at all? What logs to check, any additional info to be sent to logfiles?
Another strange behaviour. When I turned on printing for an existing report region the print link has the following URL:
http://ngdwsrv/pls/apex/f?p=107:2:278743463863218506:FLOW_XMLP_OUTPUT_R3825265334087776571_nlThis results in : 404 The requested URL /pls/apex/f was not found on this server.

    Hello!
    Help me, please!
I need to print reports in PDF.
    What I did:
    1 I installed Apache Tomcat 6.0.14
    2 I installed Cocoon 2.1.10
All works fine! http://localhost:8080/Cocoon opened OK
    3 I copied fop_post to \apache-tomcat-6.0.14\webapps\cocoon\ , now I have apache-tomcat-6.0.14\webapps\cocoon\fop_post\sitemap.xmap
4 In apex I choose : Oracle BI Publiser - Standart Support
    print server host address 192.168.1.112
    print server port 8080
    print server script \cocoon\fop_post\
Now I make simple report consists from 1 column from a simple table like emp table, and choose.
    Output format - PDF
Report Layout - Default Report Layout
    Apex is English.
I read that can be problem if I'll write use point in (example) 0.5 and everywhere I used 1.
When I run the programm and click print button I have error message : Acrobat could not open 'a[1].pdf' because is either not a supported file type or because
the file has been damage ......
I saved this file and opened with text editor but there was nothing and size of this file is 0 kb.
PLEASE, explain me where is problem and how to solve it?
    Thank you!!!

  • Exporting PDF to Print - Zero Bytes

    Hi All,
I am trying to export my brochure design 104 pages. A4 size. It is a furniture brochure so you can imagine there are hundreds of linked files.
Once I have selected Export PDF for Print as I usually do with my flyers and posters, I select the option I believe I need, including the output for bleed markings .etc. but the file does not seem to be exporting.
When I locate my exported PDF in Finder (Mac) Explorer (Windows) it shows the file there but with Zero bytes as the size, I try to open the file and it says the file is empty.
Has anyone seen this before or am I doing anything wrong?
Does InDesign show the progess of the Export? I cannot see anything in InDesign but I'm thinking it could take some time to Export as the file must be very large.
Any help and advise is appreciated as always
    Kind Regards
    James

Hi Peter, thanks for your prompt response
I am using CS6 now, is there anyway to view background taks?
I have attached a screenshot of the error I am now receiving....

  • Print 2:1 layout from numbers into pdf zero bytes

    Output desired
1 page landscape with page 1 and 2 side by side
Problem: zero byte output when layout changed
Hi before mavericks / last numbers update i used to be able to print a spreadsheet with 2 separate sheets on one landscape page, by choosing print-->print...>layout (2 pages per sheet), then save as PDF.  Anytime I choose anything other than 1 page per sheet the resulting PDF file has zero bytes and doesn't work.  The print preview in numbers looks correct as well as the print dialogue preview.  Something is failing in the export.  Any ideas?

    Hi lotsokids,
Just to ensure we are all singing the same tune .
A Numbers document consists of one or more sheets (tabs).
Each sheet can have one or more tables plus other objects (shapes, charts, text boxes... ).
A page is a piece of paper in your printer.
Am I right in thinking you have two tables on one sheet?
And you want to line them up within the page margins so that they both print on one page? Screen shot from Print Preview:
Numbers 3 has lost the good old Print View and Layout View of Numbers 2. We are stuck with Print Preview with limited editing options. We can set page margins, orientation (landscape or portrait), page headers and footers, print This Sheet or All Sheets. You may have to drag the Print Setup Panel up to see all the options.
To help align objects within the page margins, click on Done to close Print Preview. Then Menu > Numbers > Preferences > Rulers (and tick all boxes).
Alignment Guides can be dragged from the rulers to show page margins.
See this User Tip on creating a Layout Guide in Numbers 3:

  • New keynote (6.5.2) produces zero-byte document when printing to pdf

I want a pdf version of a 30-slide Keynote presentation.  Using the latest version of Keynote, print to pdf generates an output pdf file that is zero bytes in length.  It does this whether I print all 30 slides, just one slide, etc.  This is on Yosemite 10.10.1.

Hi Ben and thanks for your reply.
Just to clarify a couple of things:
Unfortunately, as I mentioned, for various reasons to do with our print profiles etc we are currently required to print to pdf rather than export. Hopefully this will change soon, but for the moment it's unfortunately not an option.
Also, MathType only allows you to save equations as either eps or gif files and, seeing as we need them to be editable in case of revisions (not to mention quality of image rendering) eps is clearly the preferable format of the two.
Essentially, we don't have a choice about these two issues, so I'm really wondering if anyone out there can shed any light on what the cause of the error may be - particularly as it's only become an issue since upgrading to CS5 and MathType 6 (from CS2 and MathType 5).
    Thanks

  • Safari will not properly Export as PDF. Files have zero bytes.

Safari will not properly Export as PDF. Files have zero bytes.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Safari saves pdf files as zero bytes

Every time I save a web page that is a pdf, Safari makes a zero bytes file. Its blank of course! Very annoying. Other web browsers dont do this. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Using my Mac all pdfs result in zero byte files

I have uninstalled and reinstalled with the same result.

This sounds very alarming. Please help us understand what you are seeing as it is not typical and may even be unique. For instance,
    * are these old PDFs which used to be fine but which now are not?
    * is it new PDFs that you are making (how)?
    * how do you see that they are zero bytes?
    * what Mac OS?
    * anything else you can think of especially, other strange things starting around the same time.

  • My Concurrent Program PDF output is in Russia instead of in English.  Why?

I have selected Format as PDF and Style as "Landscape" and I am using English version as many others. Why am i getting Russian(or its some other language I really dont know that script) characters when I run the report?
    I am using
    RDBMS : 10.2.0.2.0
    Oracle Applications : 11.5.10.2
    Oracle Forms Version : 6.0.8.27.0
    Application Object Library : 11.5.0
Please suggest me to get English font in my PDF output file.
I forgot to mention that I am able to see output in english when I run the report with Format as "Text".

Since your characterset is set to UTF8, generating any report in PDF format (with or without printing) is not supported. Oracle Reports 6i cannot generate PDF output with multi-byte characters. In Oracle Applications 11i with Oracle Reports 6i, PDF output is supported for only Latin-1 character sets such as US7ASCII, WE8ISO8859P1 or WE8MSWIN1252.
Under UTF8, generating PDF via the XML Publisher is supported and it can be done. Alterative workaround is to use another format like Postscript (Assuming that PASTA is already installed and configured).

  • Help! Files will send with zero bytes!

I have been trying to send files (pdf mostly) through a dropbox server. Every time I try to, they send with zero bytes. Why is this? I have no idea on how to fix it!

    Hi,
What do you have in the console log?
    Please, try with 1.1.

    Reports supports PDF 1.1.
The Adobe Acrobat Reader cannot read .PDF report files generated by Report Builder if the report contains certain types of non- English character set languages (typically multi-byte) or Unicode character set.
    Same with reports 6.
Install Acrobat Reader 4.X. Print to Acrobat Distiller printer. Works for Baltics.

  • I have problems saving powerpoint, they become zero bytes

    Hi,
I have been having problems with powerpoint file, (also PDF files) I saved them at work on a USB stick using a Windows Computer, and some of the files become zero bytes after I tried to open them at home using Mac Air. I thought it was the problem of the USB stick but I just saved a powerpoint on OneDrive and the same problem existed again, the powerpoint became blank!! in zero byte.....Thankfully I can recover the file. But please can anyone help me to avoid this problem again??
    Thanks.

If the apps which are supposed to be especially designed for MS Office stuff, like QuickOffice or Documents to Go or Office², fail to handle your PowerPoints, by all means go and complain to the people who make them.
To ask Apple for improvements in Keynote, you can go to this site (but in the end the compatibility of Apple's programs with MS stuff will always be only partial).

  • Central 5.5 hanging/stuck while producing PDF output

    Hi
We have been using Central 5.5 has been in use 3+ yrs with 80+ designs producing output to Printer & PDF. Generally speaking things are OK. Recently we have encountered a problem whereby Central appears to be hanging and it has been when processing a .dat to produce a PDF. the problem does not always occur so its hard to pinpoint the problem.
I have reported the problem to Adobe VAR & Adobe for their support, meanwhile I would appreciate if any forum users could advise as to possible causes of the problems we are encountering.
the following is the problem description - probably best to start at bottom of this posting and work up thru the mails
    thanks in advance

User site are encountering an intermittent problem on the JF Server, first occurred 29/10 and then occurred yesterday and today
They tell me it seems to be specific to one particular IFD/Design when its used to create a PDF output file. It does not fail each time that the IFD/Design is used.
Typically when they get errors with .dat .IFD mismatches etc. a file would be created in /error/ and the next file in /data/ would be processed, but in this instance the JF Server is freezing intermittently - when processing particular files - no files created/posted to the /error/ directory
User site identify the problem file by filename of lowest sequence no. / date-time stamp - they then remove the file from the /data directory and then stop and start the JF service to get going again. When they put the offending .dat back in /data then it fails again, however if they copy the file creating copy_of_filename.dat and put copy_of_filename.dat in /data then the copied file processes ok !!!
could there be something funny about the original file, some sort of byte corruption that is resolved when the file is copied/saved again.
have you ever experienced anything like this ?
User site get an error message on the JF server when the problem file causes the hang/stuck service - its the most immediate e-mail below - there is a complete snail on this problem staring at the bottom of this mail working back up.
Do Adobe have any information regarding problems that could cause the JF Server to hang/freeze.
Have you any thoughts/suggestions - could you forward this problem to Adobe
Additionally, could any problem arise if McAfee Anti-Virus On-Access scan is turned "ON" on the JF Server, could there be any conflict of McAffee and JF both accessing a file at same time.

in your original mail when problem 1st occurred, the problem file was the creation of a PDF, in this latest problem is the problem file also the creation of a PDF?
Jean yes it is pdf related
the problems seems to be occurring in TEST account when users are creating PDFs - could PDF of same name be already present, created earlier by the LIVE account processing.
Jean no its not the case if a pdf with the same name is already present it will be overwritten with the latest file (I had already tested this)

    Hi
This problem has been experienced again, although this times its with a different Design/Form, still using version 5.5
The "business application" creates the dat files using a unique sequential filename and then copies the files to the JF-data directory. While JFserver processing a dat to produce a PDF the following error occurred on the server.

From a user perspective, when they look in the JF-data directory there could be one or a no. of files present. It would be the earliest of these files that is causing the problem, that JF is failing to process/merge the earliest of the dat files, and the server throws an error.

When the "problematic" dat file is removed from the data directory the other files process OK.
There are approx 100 different Designs/forms being produced and these could be either printer or PDF outputs. Remote users of the application receive PDF outputs.
The Design/MDF file in question has not changed in recent months.
The Design/Form where the problem occurs would be used a no. of times every day, on same day both ealier and later documents produced OK for the same form. This would therefore indicate that the cause of the problem is specific to the .dat file, that the file is either corrupted or that some value in the .dat is causing the problem.
Each dat file for PDF generates a new unique PDF filename to be created, to ensure destination-output pdf filename does not already exist on the jfserver.
The problematic dat file was copied to another machine and the following scenarios tested:-
    1) one of the data field values was changed, the file saved and then re-submitted to the JFserver, the problem still occurred.
    2) amended the job line to just change the destination pdf filename, the file then re-submitted to the JFserver and the problem did not occur, PDF produced OK.
    3) without changing the destination pdf filename, amended the job line to include the logging commands -v-10 -n0 , the file then re-submitted to the JFserver and the problem did not occur, PDF produced OK.
This seems to indicate that by making a change to the JOB line and saving the file and resubmitting that it works OK.
System is printing hundreds and sometimes thousands of documents per day and this problem occurs only occasionally, all very strange.
I have been reluctant to turn on the logging commands -v-10 -n0 fulltime for all the forms as I rekon this may result in an overhead on the JFserver while may affect the production time of documents and have a negative impact on users if print production time is noticably slower.
I also have available the log file produced with the increased verbosity, but this is from a successful production of the pdf.
(I can make this available - e-mail me on [email protected]).
Any suggestions on cause/identification of this problem appreciated
    thanks
    George
